The music cried gently through the air, coming from the Misty Plains. It sounded sad, but beautiful, as if the guitarist knew the song by heart. It was tempting, one of those sounds that drew people walking past to it, but also made them hesitate, as well. What if it stopped?

There was a song on the air, something faint, and Chuppi felt her ears twitch as they tuned into the sound. There were no words, only a sad melody, and the monster found herself on all fours as she scampered to find the source. She had no real reason to be in this area other than walking to get healthy (Tomo-chan would be proud!) but as she crawled along she found herself eventually peeking down at a reaper boil.
It was a bit hard for her to remain silent as she listened to the notes, she liked music and liked to sing to it, and soon a soft alto was floating along with the notes on the breeze. She wasn't saying anything really, there were no words she could express, but none the less her voice was adding to the music and helping the melody. It never occurred to her that maybe this person wanted to be alone, and she stayed where she was as she sang along.

The voice was sweet, innocent, and perfectly on key, Roch thought as he finished the song. He wanted to meet the owner of that voice, he decided, turning and looking around for her. And it was a her, only a very, very young boy could hit those notes. He was pretty sure Jove didn't sing, and even if he did, he doubted it would be that pitch perfect.
"Hello?" he called. "C'mon out, would you?"

As soon as the music stopped Chuppi hadn't noticed and kept carrying on the tune, her voice somehow knowing the notes even though she'd never heard the song before. It was only when someone spoke that she snapped her jaws shut with a loud snap and tried to back herself into the bushes in an effort to stay hidden. Unfortunately for the small monster her quills caught themselves on a branch and snapped the wood, a loud crack giving away her location without any trouble.
Having been forced to give up the act she crawled out, still on all fours, and looked over at the reaper boil. she might have looked somewhat terrifying, large red eyes and sharp teeth, except for the fact that she was very tiny and shaking like a nervous leaf. Her mouth opened up and then closed again, like she was hesitating to speak. "I....I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt."

"No, it's fine," he said, a little grin pulling at his lips, his depressed mood gone with the sight of this little one. "You okay? That snap sounded painful," he asked, looking a bit worried. "You need help getting up?"

"Hm? No, I'm not hurt, I didn't break anything. I broke the tree." Chuppi moved from all fours to her standing position, a silly little thing that actually rendered her still shorter than her longest quill had been when she was on all fours. She stood with her hands pressed together and her head tilted slightly to the side. It was easy to see that she was nervous despite speaking so softly and easily, and her fingers were twitching against one another.
"Are you the one who isn't okay? Your song sounded so sad." The monster may not have been very good with many things, but her sense of smell and hearing always lead her to know what was going on. His blood smelled cold and sallow, his music had been hollow and weeping. This person was either in mourning or was just depressed.

"It was the music, huh?" he said, sitting down again and waiting for her to come over. "Nah, I'm fine. I'm being overdramatic," he explained. "I'm getting over a crush. Sort of," he said, leaning back slightly. "I'm Roch," he added. "What's your name?"
Screechie. Why the hell did he want to call--it was probably her size, he thought with amusement. She was so tiny!

"Mi nobre es Chuppi. Er, I mean, my name is Chuppi. Mucho gusto - it's nice to meet you." She bowed her head and shuffled forward, the person sitting down and probably wanting her to join him. People usually didn't sit down if they didn't want company and so she waddled over. Waddling was all she could do right now if she wasn't on all fours - she was sore from all the running she was tying to do to get back into shape.
Of course waddling could also only make her look cuter than usual. "I...I am sorry to hear about your sad love? I..." Maybe it would be okay to share with a stranger? They seemed sad, sharing sadness usually always made people feel better together. "I am suffering from a one-sided love myself, perhaps we can speak together about it."

"Yeah?" he said. It was really hard to stay sad with this cute little ghoul heading towards him. "I'm sorry to hear that, too," he told her. "It really sucks liking someone that doesn't feel the same, huh?" He shrugged. "But hey, you've got a great voice. Do you have training?" he asked her, changing the subject to a happier one.

"I've never told him that I liked him - or at least not in a language he could understand. I don't want to change the relationship we have if it's not a step we can't take together, you know? But for now I think I'm happy when he's happy, even though I hadn't seen him in so long. I'd almost thought my feelings for him had faded, but the moment he showed up in front of me. . . . " The monster trailed off and sat down next to Roch, the heat from her body radiating like a miniature rocket. "I guess you can't lie to your heart very well, si?"
When the boil changed the conversation, she moved along with him. She'd said her piece, if he wanted to talk on it she would, but sitting together like this was enough. The topic had turned to her voice and Chuppi's face lit up like a firecracker, her small hands pushing her fingers together in nervousness. "My voice...no training. I just like to sing, and I think I sing okay? I'm certain there are others who sing far more beautiful than I. Your music is lovely."

"You've got a great voice," he said, shaking his head. "All we'd have to do is teach you what notes are what and how to read them, and we could get you singing sheet music." Then he looked at his guitar, thinking on her words.
Dammit, she was probably right, wasn't she? He'd be fine for now, but the moment he saw Xiu again, he'd be--NO, definitely not. He could get over it, he just needed to work harder! Maybe more fake dates...
Well, he could at least talk about his guitar. "She's my scythe," he told her with a hint of pride. "See? She's got sharp edges all over it. Her name is Desiree," he said, in introduction.

"Mucho gusto, Desiree. I am jealous of how beautiful you sing as well." Considering Chuppi talked to her Thermos, talking to a guitar-scythe wasn't odd at all in her book. Compliments were meant to be given wherever they belonged. "So to be a scythe, you are a reaper then? I am a Chupacabra myself."
Monsters were supposed to have issues with reapers, right? Chuppi rather liked them, they always treated her kindly. "Also, I know how to read sheet music. Sometimes I would sneak into the music rooms and read the papers dropped by students."

"Yeah? That's pretty cool," he said. "Hey, if you sing me a song, I'll play you one, okay?" he offered, grinning slightly. "Any song you want. I'll try my best to give you some accompaniment, how's that sound?" he offered.
He wanted to hear that voice again, he thought. He wanted to make sure he was right.

"Sure, I don't mind singing. If you don't have any requests then I will just sing one I love." Chuppi slowly rose to her feet and took a few steps forward before turning to face her companion. She'd never sung for anyway, to be honest, since most people thought it to be bad luck to hear a Chupacabra do anything that involved past speaking. She wasn't cursed like a banshee, but there was that whole I WILL MAKE YOU SICK AS A DOG that came with the screams and cries of a Chupacabra.
"Please, don't laugh at me." She didn't think Roch would, but it never hurt to ask politely. Opening her mouth, Chuppi hummed to herself for a moment before she began to sing. The notes weren't as strong as she would have liked them to be, nor were they as long lasting as she could have held them, but at the very least she'd sung for someone other than her pets and herself as she went to sleep at night.
"So...was...was that okay?"

"Jackdamn, what range," he almost whispered. Then he shook his head, only to nod, then look slightly confused. "What was the question again?" he asked her. "Hey, hey, sorry I forgot to play," he said. "That was... that was astonishing," he admitted. "I mean, considering what you sang earlier... Damn." This tiny little thing had blown him away completely. "But I promised, right? So... let me think..." She had amazing range, but in his own way, so did he, he thought, grinning. "Let's cheer us both up, what do you say?" he offered as he started to play Just Like Lightnin'.
