Time spent after the field trip called for a lot of thinking and reflecting on Hel’s part, and not all of it was always pleasant. Sigh.
The reaper was currently nestled between the roots of a tree; leaning against it as she stared up at the orange sky. She didn’t feel like being in her room at the moment, but she wasn’t sure what to do outside on her own, either, so just enjoying being outside and singing was a simple comfort. “Come deeper, come deeper, into this sinister forest where a sweet voice is calling you. Over here, over here, come on you know you want this curiosity to disappear ~”

Siren song, Roch thought, turning off of the path without a second's thought and heading straight for it. "Niiiice," he said as he saw her, grinning slightly. "Hey, Hel--" Then he stopped, remembering their little run in over Mot. "You're ah... not still mad at me are you? Cuz I can leave--"
Because, honestly, valkyries scared him a little. They were freaky ladies!! NOT someone you wanted to piss off--

Hel’s singing stopped as she heard someone approach, and then her name called. A small grin couldn’t help but come to her lips as well. “Hey there, Roch.” She greeted in return, her expression faltering though as he seemed to start back peddling with his words. Her brows furrowed in confusion.
“…Uh…no…? Why would I be mad at you? I was never mad at you…”

"Yeah? cuz I was just giving him s**t," he said, moving closer. He dropped down on the ground a foot or so away from her, leaning back on his hands and looking at her. "How are you doin?" he asked her, more seriously. "Everyone's got it tough, it seems. I mean, I'm alright for the most part, except sometimes I wake up on my back and it stings like a sonofawitch."
He was a callous b*****d, in other words.

“Heh…” Hel chuckled, giving a nod of her head. “I understand…” She watched as the punk reaper dropped down near her, and couldn’t help but feel a bit touched at the thought of having company.
She had to admit, this sure did beat singing and staring at the sky right now!
“Ah…I’m doing alright, friend.” Hel replied. Though it wasn’t exactly true, but she was certainly not going to say otherwise. “Yes…some seem to have it worse than others…some have nightmares…and I can still sleep all the way through the night with nothing…are you sleeping well, Roch, aside from the back pains?” It was also kind of refreshing to speak to someone who was a ‘callous b*****d’.

"......" He looked at her. "No, there's one thing..." he admitted. "Hey, maybe you can give me a hand here," he decided surprisingly. Then he stopped, frowning a bit. "Um..."
Clearly this was NOT a usual subject for the usually talkative boil. "Say you had a crush," he said, trying a different approach. "One that already turned you down, and then got saved by another guy--er, girl in your case, right? How..." He was rather red by this point. "How would you get over her--him?"

Hel perked up when Roch seemed to change his mind. “Yes, what is it, friend?” The valkyrie liked trying to help out! She was also kind of flattered that Roch seemed to what her aid with some—
What?
The ghoul immediately tensed when Roch said ‘crush.’ Wait…sweet Sally please don’t say he was on to her as well-- Oh, okay. It was a hypothetical situation apparently. Still, it struck a little bit too close to home. Pushing her worries aside, Hel tried to focus on his question. “…How…would I get over that person…?” She looked puzzled for a moment, and took some time to seriously ponder it. How would she get over someone? “I…uh…” Hel wasn’t exactly a master on this topic. “…I’d…train and…battle…and um…carry on as I usually do…?” She offered. “…Life doesn’t stop, does it? Uh…why did the crush turn you down?”

He looked a little more closely.
"Seriously?" he finally asked. "No, seriously, look at me," he said. "Do you really have to ask?"

Hel blinked as Roch looked at her.
She looked back.
When he looked closer, she raised a brow.
What?
“…Uh…I’m looking, friend…” Hel replied a bit uncertainly. “What am I looking for that would make someone turn you down? I think you are a swell boil…I haven’t seen you battle yet…so I can’t say for certain what kind of warrior you are…but you are a swell boil.” She nodded her head firmly. “So I do not see why a ghoul wouldn’t want you.”

He lifted a hand, intent on counting off the reasons. "Broke," he said, holding up a finger, "punk, from the wrong part of Halloween, no high class family name, no proper scythe, no proper training, no manners, no skills outside of music and illegal tendencies, learned music from a drunken skeleton on a street corner--that REALLY sounds classy, don't you think? Learned fighting from a gang, I have no honor according to that b***h of a hunter, by the way--"
It looked as if he could go on.

As Roch started listing off his reasons for ghouls not to like him, Hel didn’t look impressed, and she even rolled her eyes. “The number of seeds you own should have nothing to do with feelings, first.” The valkyrie started, exasperatedly, “The second, the rest sounds like a ton of baggage that you are carrying around…why not just get rid of it and start a new?” Hel spoke as if it was easy…though far from it.
She scowled. “Truly friend? You’re going to let a false reaper determined your honor?”

Hel paused and then stared at him.
She stared hard.
She then grinned, widely.
“You did?” Hel echoed, her voice laced with awe and approval. She then held out a fist to the reaper. Fist bump! She knew how to do it! “I am very sorry to have missed that, friend!”

"It was beautiful," Roch bragged, bumping his fist to hers. "A thing of great beauty--almost as beautiful as some of the hits Christof pulled off," he added.
"Either way... some stuff I can't change, or walk away from, Hel. I'm always going to be carrying that baggage. Some of it, hell, I wouldn't be me if I didn't have it," he said. "My guitar wouldn't be a guitar, I wouldn't know how to hit people in the throat, nothin'. It's just... What I am just... isn't what she wants. And I can't change what I am."

As little as it was, at least they could take comfort in the hits their dealt to the false reapers. Some of them wouldn’t be forgetting that anytime soon, right?
Hel rested her hand back on her knee as she listened to Roch. Geeze. He kind of sounded like Riyo with that clinging to the past stuff. The reaper wrinkled her brow before letting out a sigh. A lot of what he was saying made sense though, and it got her thinking. “…So…if you’re not what that being wants you to be…you should…stop pursuing them? Can you really not change, even if you wanted to?”
