It was not often that he spent time on the upper levels of the Dark kingdom, he favored the rift a great deal, it was there that his War Room lay. There were the piles of papers in neat stacks with precise handwriting were organized into easily accessible information on all whom he encountered.
Notes regarding activity of senshi and soldiers alike, like whom among them had done well, who might bear watching, who needed rewarded and who should be punished. For the sailors of course it was powers, deeds, and information on their uniforms, colors and accessories. There were details that could range from the clearly useful to the seemingly trivial in nature. It was simply the way his notes evolved, starting well before his induction to the Negaverse and being honed into something potentially far more dangerous.
But he stood here now, he stood gazing into the dark crystal that stood as a warning to all those who served, at least it was intended as such. He stood there gazing into it like a statue himself, whatever thoughts he had when he gazed into the stone were kept to secret, but they were shadowed nonetheless. Heavy thoughts that spanned past and present, likely stretched forward to thoughts of days to come. Ambition, not simply personal, far from it, no, something had been started and he tried now to reach out in his mind to see where it would end.
What would become of the senshi, what would become of the Dark kingdom, what of the battle in the Surrounding? Such a terrible loss, such an unexpected one that it still cut at him, twisting the knife and rekindling the dark fury and passion in him. It filtered through the crevices of his life and linked fingers with the terrible understand he had gained with his promotion. The strange dance he found himself in with Tanzanite, the curious understanding that he had never asked for, but now could never turn away from.
He raised a hand and pressed it to the cold surface, tracing it almost gently, though his eyes spoke another story all together. “We have come so far…” He whispered.

It seemed as if time flew by sometimes.
If she'd thought about it before, Dahlia never would have believed she would have gone so long without checking in with and seeing the General that had first most fully welcomed her into the negaverse. He was pleasant enough, and willing to listen to her sometimes trivial requests and demands for attention. And beyond that he was such a useful book of information to glean from. But it seemed inbetween strange incidents and the way life sometimes carried people away it had been an unforgivable amount of time since the two had met.
Perhaps she was still a little angry, or rather dissappointed over what had gone down at the meeting that had introduced the Dark Mirror Court to them. Quite truthfully she'd spent quite a few days being an absolute brat after the fact, hiding from anyone and everyone while playing into her own feelings of 'woe is me'. Only finally being pulled out of her funk after she'd had days to stew upon her thoughts.
But other things had happened over time. She had been to the Rift for the first time. Had met the strange captain that Zinkenite had saved from capture during their first meeting. She'd been to space and back!
It was probably however the sudden feeling of usefulness and comfort that had finally made her forget her grudge when she detected his pressence nearby. After meeting so many of the new senshi, be they Dark Moon or not, she was just in too good of a mood to worry about the past or cloud her mind. With a clear mind it was easy enough to grasp the fact anyway... that what better a friend to have then a General King.
She hoped she wouldn't have to, but even if forced to eat her words and feelings for the time be... it was time for the guardian cat to make the effort to make up.
A simple feline murr announced her presence, and she looked absolutely tiny amid the big room, her tail nonetheless held high above her.

It was a subtle motion, the shift of his eyes to her, precise and studious. The blue eyes stayed for a moment cold before they warmed slightly and he nodded. The opinionated feline was apparently not in ‘poor graces’ despite their differences of opinion. It was actions as much as words that mattered. “Dahlia.” He said with a small nod. “It’s been some time, though you made a good show of yourself in the surrounding, for as well as it went.” He offered. The praise might have been small but it was sincere.
His fist curled into a fist against the cold stone before he dropped it to his side and glanced a final time at the ‘sleeping’ figures with in. What would they make of him now, what would they make of what the Dark Kingdom had become? Did it matter? The past was to be learned from, he would not see it repeated.
“Has anyone ever told you the story of this?” He asked almost distracted as he turned back to her. He waved a hand at the dark crystal with a gaze that seemed detached enough that he would have done any cat proud. “What we’re to learn from it? I think there are more here than were strictly intended, perhaps that’s for the best, don’t you think?”
He cast one brief glance towards the throne room where Beryl was no doubt perched on her dais and throne like an overfed spider, waiting for the cords of her much-abused web to shiver. Waiting for some new prey to toy with and then suck the life out of. If she had little whispering flies…then he would find a legion of singing birds to bring him the information they both craved.
“My apologies, I’m afraid I’m rather introspective today, what may I do for you Lady?” He crouched and offered her a hand to brush her cheek against.

He didn't seem upset, and truth be told, had she approached him even the day after he probably wouldn't have been even then. It had been her own pride that had been wounded. And her own sense of ego that had perhaps taken it further then it needed to go.
It was true the thought would probably always linger there... in the darkest crevices of her mind, when things got rough she might pull and tug on the idea that they thought very little of her. A simple and begrudgingly used tool.
But it was a thought that was left for those darker times because even now here her was, offering soft and light praise. Praise she'd happily eat up. To which she returned a few soft words of her own. Reassurance perhaps? "It was a great effort.. I really did not think we could lose... But there is something to say about attacking on their home front. An unfortunate underestimation. Nothing we could prepare for."
Eyes drifting towards the crystals, she inspected them curiously. She'd seen them before of course, looked at them with morbid or sometimes simply bored curiousity. "I haven't heard the stories no." There was an inclination that she might be interested though in her tone and lingering eyes. There had been more pressing matters that had filled the information she'd been given over time. Practical things seeming to take the forefront over the more figurative.
The offered was nonetheless approached, a low purr rattling through her as she rubbed her cheek and then the top of her head into the awaiting palm.

“Here, allow me to give you a lift to see.” He said and carefully picked her up to bring her face level with the frozen figures behind the purple ‘glass’. “Almost pretty isn’t it? Like a fairy tale, lovers twined forever behind crystal needing no more than each other’s embrace. The one time General King Charonite, who recruited so many, and General Nealite, who loved him, once host to Beryl herself.”
He let that information sink in before he continued. “What lesson is to be taken away is that they were traitors. They if nothing else had the audacity to be in love, he loved Nealite perhaps more than he did the queen. One more reason that Love is such a dangerous word, perhaps the very reason Senshi stand so firmly behind it as one of their rallying points.” He murmured and scratched at her ears as he stared into the ‘sleeping’ faces.
“We have changed so much since he was the only one here, so much since when she earned her rank as General. I will wonder forever just how much influence she had on Beryl by merit of being her host. You could call it a sacrifice that she gave herself to it, but that is not my story to tell or judge.” He offered to let her ride on his shoulder as he turned and walked away.
“So many things can be learned in this place, but so many of them are never mentioned, people simply assume that others must know and they slip by. It’s curious, how many other things I wonder go unquestioned, how many other hidden doors might there be like the Rift, don’t you wonder?”

Her small body was lifted up, giving her a better view then she usually could get of the large structures. And look she did, taking in the details that she could easily make out now, highlighted by the colorful prose of the General King who held her.
A general king trapped within a crystal... and the woman clutched to him... once a host for Beryl? Her expression was one of surprise as she glanced for a moment back towards Zinkenite before returning once more to the crystaline structure.
The answer did not do much to lessen her surprise or confusion. Love... To be considered a traitor for loving something.. It was a harsh concept.. until of course he continued and she realized the folly involved.. of a General King putting something else ahead of his job.. of his queen.
They were dangerous emotions... both love and lust. Weapons to be wielded... or weaknesses to guard against. A dangerous line to walk.
She listened intently as he continued to speak, settling herself comfortably on his shoulder as he began to walk, tail wrapped carefully back around his collar for stability.
"Perhaps it is that many of us don't know what questions we're allowed to ask. Which answers we may seek or who might even have those answers..."
"But I agree... information is never something you can have too much of. Perhaps the secrets that will help us shift the tides of this war are simply waiting around.. lying in wait for us to find them."

“Love is a deadly thing, it traps even those who guard against it.” He murmured, his eyes half lidded with distant thoughts and he looked sad, but not displeased. He shook off the thought that so distracted him, and reached up to rub her ears. “It’s hard to be new here, isn’t it”? He said and tucked a finger to rub under her chin. “One day you’ll be telling some wet behind the ears lieutenant or senshi the story behind this pillar as though you were here when it happened I think.” He sounded amused at the thought.
“One day you and I will find those secrets that are waiting for us, until then I’ll keep searching for the pieces to the puzzle.” A pause for thought before he spoke again. “I hope you will not stay offended after the meeting, remember that even if we disagree, the fact we are willing to speak of it is in itself a kind of respect. If you were not worth talking to you would simply have been ignored. You’re of value to us, as much so as the senshi though I realize that is not necessarily a popular view.”

Perhaps she'd made a face of some sort that had given away her thoughts. Or perhaps the General King had some past lover on his mind that tugged in the acheing way tender memories often did. Whatever it was, the comment was enough to draw Dahlia's interest for a moment, offering a soft and rhetorical musing. "Spoken like someone who would know, hmmm?"
She did not attempt to dig for an answer though, instead simply leaning her head into his fingers as his scratched her and there, a soft purr beginning to rumble through her throat.
"That is the hope" Dahlia mused, her eyes sliding to low and contented slits. Knowing the stories and being able to tell them herself, perhaps with a few embellishments, sounded like a splendid thing. A real way to root her importance in with the newer recruits, and to help reassure any worries they might have or steel their resolve. "I'll keep my ears and eyes busy looking and learning."
The cat had not expected the incoming apology, having expected more to have to eat crow herself, but when the words themselves began to flow she wasn't entirely surprised by them. Zinkenite had proven himself to be a kind young man in the time Dahlia had come to know him. He cared for those around him, carried himself with a level head full of logic and careful thought. Perhaps sometimes he seemed a little too honest, a little too soft... but in the end he had always been a friend of the senshi. It seemed the guardian had been worrying a bit too much.
"I may have been a little dramatic, or spoken a bit out of turn." She relented thoughtfully. It was after all her first meeting.. And he had been correct.. she didn't really know of Ares and the things she'd done in the past. Even if logic did dictate that more allies would be in their best interest.. emotions always had their place, and it may have been a teeny bit unfair of her to disregard them.
It seemed she was lucky, or if you asked her she'd chosen quite well, with the first officer she'd come to know and interact with. With experience and power and the willingness to forgive her sometimes stubborn ways, General King Zinkenite really did make the perfect friend to have. A cheek was pressed against his coat, before she gave him an affectionate set of rubs. "Thank you for showing me this"
