'Oh God, its him.'
Her mind reeled the entire film class, her eyes shifting between the boring professor lecturing about the origins of film and the cute boy next to her - Jack Stark. In another life, Tova had gone on a date with the boy next to her, but due to the glamour that came with Requiem's transition to the Dark Mirror Court, she was no longer recognizable as Devi Gellner, the girl who had awkwarded out of a first kiss and had stood him up on their second date. It wasn't that she wanted to stand the boy up - she had no choice. Her new identity had come at quite the inconvenient time in that relationship.
But it seemed some entity wanted to give the two a second chance, tossing them together in the same Introduction to Film class, and as luck would have it, Jack had chosen a seat right next to her. Of course, it was one of the few empty seats close to the door in the back of the lecture hall, but the crush that Tova had on the boy convinced her that he chose the seat to sit next to her.
She hardly paid attention the entire lecture, unable to think of anything else but what to do, what to say - if anything. She couldn't expose who she really was, and it wasn't like she wanted any kind of a relationship. Those were strictly forbidden in the rules that she had set for herself. Relationships of all kinds always have to end when you're a soldier like Requiem - there was no point in starting relationships, unfortunately for Tova.
But did there have to be a relationship? What was wrong with a little flirtation?
"Uh, hi," she breather, far too soft to even be heard by herself. She cleared her throat and looked the other way, as if she had done nothing.
That's right. She didn't know how to flirt. That's what was wrong with flirtation.
As she tapped her pen on her desk and bounced her ankle on her knee, her eyes wandered back to him - she was being very obvious. A part of her hoped that he picked up on it, and yet a part of her hoped he didn't.

Movies were Jack's thing.
That was to say, he liked watching them. Especially if they were catchy musicals that he could sing along to. If he was feeling especially ambitious, Jack even liked to imagine himself in the leading role, and consider all of the things that he would have done differently. When he'd signed up for this class, he'd thought it would be a simple matter of showing up and paying attention to whatever the professor happened to screen that day.
But it wasn't like that. They actually expected him to know crap, and to care about the difference between a pan and a dolly shot.
Whatever they were.
He liked sitting in the back of the room because it was not the front of the room. Professors were less likely to notice if he fell asleep. And, if they did notice, they usually left him alone because he was tucked in a corner and only the people sitting next to him could see.
Today, Jack was not sleeping.
Jack was paying attention to the curious behaviour of the girl in the seat beside him. She was cute and familiar, somehow, but he couldn't explain why. He was a clever boy and an accomplished flirt. Tova's interest in him might have been something other, but Jack was cocky enough to consider her shy glances an invitation.
He shifted closer to Tova in his seat. When he spoke, his voice was a whisper. Lips hovered above her ear, "Hey."
Yes, he'd heard her. Yes, he was that cool.

Honey Gee Please quote me in this thread when you tag me back! s**t. s**t. s**t he had her. God, what do you say when someone says hi to you? OH, right! “Hey,” she said back, as casually as she could, even if the response was a bit delayed. Her mind was racing – way faster than she was used to in social interactions. It had been quite sometime since she found herself in a purely social non-Senshi-related situation with someone she actually wanted to interact with. In a split moment, she decided to just go with it, and let her words flow and she where they carried her. “Tova,” she added, casually introducing herself in a soft whisper – more audible than before, but not loud enough to disrupt anyone else in the class. “Are you a film buff or just looking for a blow off class?” She asked the question as non-judgmentally as possible, as if she would fall under either category. Which is just what she intended to do, dependent on his response.

“A little of both, honestly,” Jack, mindful of the Professor dictating at the front of the room, muttered out of the corner of his mouth so that only Tova could hear him. “I like watching movies, but… eh. This isn’t really my thing.” Jack wanted to star in movies. Not direct them. His was a face that deserved to be on camera, where the world could see it. Not behind them. Bored, feeling restless, Jack drummed a thoughtless tattoo against the wood of his armrest with his fingertips. The Professor drawled on and on about nothing that he cared about. Jack couldn’t help but feel like Charlie Brown.“My name’s Jack.” A pause. He ran his fingers through his hair, and then checked his watch. It read quarter to. “Do you wanna get out of here?” There was a hopeful light in his eyes.

Tova's eyes widened a bit. Get out of there? They were in class! They couldn't just get up and leave! ...could they? The thought had never really occurred to her. Doing so would make her feel slightly guilty - she was there for an education, after all - but it wasn't like she had done much paying attention to the class that day anyways. She bit her lip coyly and gave a small, weak nod that strengthened with each full nod.
"Definitely," she winked. What the ********, why did she wink? She bit her tongue to stop herself from asking if he wanted to go back to his place or hers. Apparently when Tova lets go of all of inhibitions around a boy, she becomes a total slut.
She tossed her notebook and pen into her bag and slyly snuck out the back door of the class, holding it open for Jack as they exited out. "Where to, then?"

Jack, who was watching Tova closely out of the corner of his eye, did not miss the look of surprise that flashed across her pretty face. It was clear to him that she thought something as simple as skipping class was reckless. Still she bit her lip, and nodded at him, and even dared wink.
And it was his turn to be caught off guard.
While Jack was certainly not opposed to a bedroom adventure with this delightfully willing young woman, he was both a slut and a gentleman. He was a romantic, who believed in the magic of first kisses and getting to know a lady over coffee.
“Thanks,” Jack followed close behind Tova, and thanked her for holding the door open. His smile was a little lopsided, and roguish. He was generous with it, hoping that it would take her breath away, and then said, “How about I buy you lunch?”
His hand, gentle, found the small of her back. It was a suggestion, and a promise.
If she chose to pick up on them.

Tova was many things. Tova was a good girl who knew she had a long day of classes and wanted to stay focused, so had a big lunch before class. Tova was also apparently a girl who would eat two lunches so that she can spend time with a boy. And Tova was a girl that the Devi inside her would have hated that day.
"I'd like that. Is there any where you have in mind?" she asked, smiling as his hand was placed on her back. The whole flirting thing was still new to her in many ways - Damian and Jack were the only two boys she really flirted with, and since the latter of the two was the boy in question this time around, it felt natural to her. She felt a bit guilty for this, though - she knew that it was him, but he would have no idea that it was her.
"Do you pick up girls in class a lot, then?" she asked.

“Mmmm,” Jack sounded thoughtful. He stepped into a companionable stroll alongside Tova, and did not remove his hand from the small of her back. He glanced sideways at her, and smirked faintly. “I wonder if I should be the one asking you that question. I’m not sure you didn’t pick me up.”
There was a playful light in Jack’s eye. His fingers splayed where they grazed Tova’s t-shirt. And then, boldly, slipped underneath the fabric to tickle at her skin.
“What can I say?” there was a whimsy note to his voice. “I have always been a sucker for a clever lady with a pretty face. Mrs. Moffat can attest to that. She was my second grade teacher, you know, and my first love. I’m sure she’s still got all of my Valentines Day cards tucked away in her scrapbook.”
The point of this anecdote was to endear him to Tova. Jack wasn’t sure if it would work, but his was a creative soul. He’d think of something else.
“Alas, we were never meant to be.”
And no, he didn’t have any place particular in mind for lunch. But he was distracted from her first question by the second one.

"I think there might be a law or two preventing that relationship," Tova teased.
She nearly leaped once Jack went under her shirt, but she did her best to conceal her surprise. Nonetheless, the shock showed in her eyes. She had started to wrap her arm around his waist, but once he touched the skin of her back, she changed her mind and instead placed her hand on his a**. She may have even given a very light squeeze. Instantly, her face turned bright red as she tried to figure out what in the hell was possessing her to act this way.
She needed to pass the moment, make it less awkward. She needed to say something, anything.
"I never got any Valentine's Day cards," she admitted. That probably wasn't the best thing to say, she thought. Nothing gets a guy more into you than knowing that nobody ever paid attention to you in previous years. "Other than from my parents."
That wasn't helping. She should just stop talking.
And stop touching him.
She moved her hand away from him, but continued to allow him to wrap his arms around her as they walked. There was so much she wanted to say, so much she already knew about him, but she couldn't reveal it. And her resistance to say anything ended up silencing her altogether.

It was impossible to mistake Tova's surprise for anything other than what it was. Jack, who thought she would be prepared for the bold suggestion of his touch, couldn't look at those lovely eyes and not recognize the truth.
Tova didn't do this sort of thing very often. She seemed, for reasons that Jack didn't understand, determined to flirt with him. Still, despite the way she squeezed his a**, he suspected that this wasn't necessarily a sure thing.
That was okay.
Jack would have fun trying. Because Tova had not complained, he left his hand under her shirt as they walked.
"Never?" he sounded properly scandalized, and was not at all put off by her confession. It was, he thought, actually one of the saddest stories he'd ever heard. Jack had given away more Valentine's Day cards than he'd ever received, but his ego was healthy. He had never expected, or required, any in return. "A pretty girl like you? That's pretty criminal."
She reminded him vaguely of somebody that he'd met before. Jack examined Tova out of the corner of his eye, but could not put his finger on it.
"Hmmm. What do you say we fix that right now?"
When you were with Jack, everyday was Valentine's Day.

Tova's eyes widened and her heart warmed. He was truly kind to her, and she couldn't quite find the words to respond. Instead, she gave a small nod to him as they walked off to their date. She would have to find a way to repay him, perhaps something during or after the date.
A few ideas came to mind.
Bad Tova. Bad.
