Madison pushed through the flap of the Triage tent and took a deep breath - the air of the Island seemed clean and fresh, familiar. Like home. The shapes of the buildings were familiar too, a relief after the strangeness of the House and everything they'd seen within it. How long had they spent in there? She really had no idea. It seemed like it had been only an hour... or maybe a month.

But she'd come out here for a reason. Fortunately, Ennea hadn't gotten too far - she could see the pink-haired Hunter just halfway between the tent and the main 'campus'. "Hey! Ennea, wait up!" she called out, forcing her tired muscles into a run - and then dialing down into a slow jog as her legs sent back an unholy protest. Ow.

"Ennea - you're seriously not going to go into the cafeteria like that are you?" she said as she reached the younger girl's side. Neither of them were particularly clean at this point. "C'mon - you should, like, take a shower or something first. I'm going that way too if you want to tag along?"

Ennéa rolled her shoulders and shook out her arms, wincing as the muscles twinged in protest. Ugh. She knew Baraz probably was nowhere near as heavy as a normal axe of his size but she still had been swinging him a lot. She wasn't used to this.

She sighed and stared up at the main building even as she trudged towards it. Would she ever get used to it, she wondered, a day when she'd be able to take on missions like that and not even blink?

You're sore? Baraz asked, though the question was more of an idle comment than asked out of any real concern.

"A bit." She admitted. Ennéa tapped the blue bead on her bracelet, "You're heavy." Tap tap.

Baraz snorted, refusing to rise to such obvious bait. Ennéa chuckled and was about poke him more when she heard Maddie call her. She stopped to wait for her friend. "Hey Maddie, what's up?"

Ennéa creased her brow at Maddie's comment. "Ennngh." She said, not even bothering to keep the whine out of her tone. "I'm tired and I'm hungry. I'm sure they'd understand."

She looked down at her own clothes. Yeah, she had some flecks of that black monster goo coating her arms and her coat was sporting a pretty fantastic rip from -- geez, she couldn't remember when that had happened. Ennéa held up the cloth and poked her hand through. Thank goodness it was only her clothes and not her back. She shivered and then looked at Maddie.

"I guess I could shower." She said reluctantly. Now that she had really assessed herself she wanted out of these clothes.

"I got you all gunky and stuff, too." Madison made a face as she fell in step with the younger Hunter, comparing the goop level of Ennea's clothing to that of her own. Madison herself was just a mess, with her entire front stained black and more of the stuff crusting on her hands and feet. Her shoes were a total loss. "Anyway, uh, I need some help with... with this." She reached up to tap at her hair and winced as her fingertips touched frizzed, burnt hair in huge snarls. "Another, um, set of hands to, like... cut off the burned bits... if that's okay with you, I mean?" she asked, more tentatively.

Stupid stupid winged b***h.

Ennéa blinked and looked at her friend in surprise. "Are you sure you want me to cut it?" She knew how important hair and stuff was to Maddie. "Um, I mean, sure? Okay, yeah."

Ennéa changed directions and headed towards the dorms. She was going to need some scissors.

"How come you don't just tie it back?" She asked as she reached up and undid the ties to her bao covers. Ennéa shook her head, letting her pink hair fall to her shoulders in a wild and somewhat curly mass. "Mine always gets in my face if I don't."

Ennéa tried to run her fingers though her hair and grimaced when she accidentally tugged hard on a snarl.

"Yeah, well...." Madison sighed, then wrinkled her nose at the burnt-hair smell. "I gotta get the burned bits out so I can wash it. Ugh, it stinks! I can't walk around smelling like that, y'know?" Oh, man, now that she was really taking stock of the damage, she was starting to feel really gross. Ew, ew, ew.

"Your hair's cute," she added. And unburned. She was kind of jealous right now, honestly. Then again, Ennea hadn't been burned up by that winged b***h... but Ennea had also been smart enough not to tell said b***h to ******** off. Sticks and stones. They were at the front of the dorms right now. "Grab your stuff and I'll meet you in the shower? Ugh, this whole outfit is a total loss. I hope the quartery master or whatever has more awesome shoes," she sighed, wistfully.

Poor shoes.

Ennéa sat on a bench in the women's shower area and undressed and pulled off her shoes. Her right one was all crusted over with blood from when that monster had bit her on the leg. She deliberated for a moment and then tossed her shoes into the trash along with the rest of her clothes.

Perfect shot, nothing but net. Ennéa did a small fistpump and then wrapped herself up in a towel and scurried out from the locker area to where the shower stalls were.

Part of her felt a little guilty at such a waste of both clothing and shoes; if her mother or Tobias was here they would've probably tried to salvage them in some way. But they weren't here and Ennéa was too tired to bother. That mission had sucked.

She stood in front of a mirror and stuck out her tongue and crossed her eyes, making a couple of silly faces before nodding to herself. "It really did suck." She said to her mirror self. Her reflection tiredly looked back. There were dark circles under its eyes.

Ennéa hopped up to sit on the sink and looked towards the door, waiting for Maddie to arrive.

Madison, for her part, stopped by her room, staring at it as soon as she opened the door. It looked exactly as it had when she left it so long (so short?) ago, which seemed kind of unfair. How could she feel so changed and yet everything else stay the same?

Well, her clothes certainly hadn't stayed the same. She, too, ended up wrapping herself in a towel, regretfully declaring her entire outfit a total loss; even if it weren't for the stains, there were rips and tears everywhere. Nope. No way was she fixing that. She did mourn the shoes though. Her poor, poor awesome shoes.

Everything else was also tended to with ruthless efficiency: she clipped her nails, which were all ragged and chipped to hell by now. She cut as many of the burned chunks out of her hair as she could, though there were still some in the back that she couldn't quite reach; Ennea would have to help her with those. She did not look at herself in the mirror. Better for her sanity that way.

Finally, she grabbed a clean set of off-duty clothes and shower basket before heading down the hall to the shower. "I hope this dorm has a really good water heater," she sighed as she entered the shower. Another good thing to leaving Triage early: more open shower stalls. There wasn't anyone else in here right now.

"C'mon," she said to Ennea with a tired grin, tossing a spare washcloth at the pink-haired Hunter. "Can you cut the other melted bits out of my hair first?" Ugh, ugh, ugh. Her kingdom for a salon.

Ennéa chewed on her lip as she finger combed through Maddie's hair. She was still sitting on the sink which gave her a better height with which to work but it was still awkward going. Maddie was so fussy about her hair and Ennéa didn't want to upset the older girl by messing it up.

She teased out another burned clump of hair and snipped at it, trying to save as much hair as she could though doing so did make the cuts rather ragged and uneven. Ennéa tried to even out a particularly crooked cut and wound up cutting off more hair than she had intended. Oops. She guiltily hid the lock of hair in the sink, hoping Maddie wouldn't notice it.

"So..." Ennéa started to say and then awkwardly trailed off. Actually, she didn't want to talk about the mission or any hunter stuff for that matter. "What's your favorite color?" She asked as she worked.

Madison flinched as Ennea's fingers caught a tangle, pulling her hair, but on the whole any pain was so, so not worth worrying about compared to the way the rest of her body felt. Stupid. Still, any distraction from worrying about her hair was more than welcome, so she latched onto Ennea's question with relief. "Uh. I guess... pink? Yeah, it's pink."

Our favorite color is black. By majority consensus, Kouki put in, interested.

Madison snorted. "Kouki says his is black. Um... what's your favorite food?" she shot back. It really was the smallest of small talk, but the only other thing she could think of was the mission. And she didn't want to talk about the mission right now.

"Waffles with syrup!" Ennéa said. She didn't even have to think about that.

She swung her legs to and fro on either side of Maddie. This was fun. "Okay, uh... favorite movie?"

Madison... blanked. When had she last seen a movie in the theater? Oh, she'd gone to the theater plenty of times, but it had largely been paying eight dollars to make out with her boyfriend in the back. And she couldn't tell Ennea that. "Uh. I, um, always liked... Bambi?" she said, lamely.

"Favorite children's book," she retaliated, reaching back to find another clump of burned hair and holding it awkwardly back towards Ennea.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 06, 2011 11:24 pm

"Bambi?" Ennéa echoed somewhat incredulously. She belatedly realized that sounded a little rude. "Sorry, I just never would have guessed that." She chuckled.

Maddie always seemed like the type to choose something a bit more focused on romance or perhaps with a hunky male lead with smouldering eyes and rippling muscles. Huh. Shows how much she actually knew about the older girl.

It was kind of funny considering all they've been through; Ennéa trusted Maddie to watch her back and yet she still didn't know so many things about the other hunter. She shrugged and started clipping at the clump of burned hair Maddie pointed out. "I always liked Fantasia." She said conversationally.

"Favorite children's book would probably be... this big book of short stories we used to have by Kipling. You know, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the Just So Stories and stuff? My brother used to read them to me before I went to bed. It was great! He used to use different voices for all the characters..."

Ennéa trailed off and silently clipped at Maddie's hair. "Do you have any siblings?" She finally asked.

Madison almost shook her head in response to Ennea's question, then realized that would be a very bad plan. "Nah, I'm the only kid in my family. I always wanted a little sister, but... I dunno. Maybe she would've, like, seen shadows too, and I don't want that for anybody. Except us, I guess."

If you could not see them, you would not be with us, Kouki said, cheerfully. And we would be blind and very bored right now.

"Psssh~ some weapon says he'd be bored if, like, we weren't here," Madison added, aloud, for Ennea's benefit. "How's the hair? Is all the smelly melted stuff gone?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 07, 2011 12:11 am

Ennéa faltered a little in her snipping. "Yeah... I wouldn't wish anyone to see shadows either!" She said a little too brightly.

Hm. Baraz grunted but he didn't comment further. He did pipe up at Maddie's remark about Kouki, however. Psh! Like that snake really does anything aside from look fancy with his four blades. Oooh~ He said sarcastically. He may have stabbed that monster in the glyph but we were right there in the danger zone, smacking it in the face! Hah! Baraz's wings rustled for emphasis.

Ennéa rolled her eyes. "Baraz agrees with him." She said sweetly.

Hey!

Ennéa ignored her weapon's protest and did one last finger-comb through Maddie's hair. It was a little ragged and uneven but it looked like she'd gotten all of it. "I think you're good!" She said, hopping off the sink and tossing the burned hair clumps into the garbage. "Let's shower so I can get my ice creeeeeam~"

"Oh, thank god," Madison sighed in relief, stretching as she stood and then wincing as the movement reminded her of exactly how sore she was. "Thanks for your help! ... and yeah, let's get clean. It feels like I haven't showered in like sixty years or something."

She quickly grabbed her shower basket again and stepped into the first stall, putting her clean clothes on the dry bench before hanging up her towel and turning on the water. Full-blast, hot as she could get it. It was heaven and hell put together, as the water relaxed her muscles but also stung in her cuts, especially against the blistering burns remaining on her legs. She hissed under her breath. "You sing in the shower?" she called out over the roar of the water.
