~Refractors, the energy source of the times, powers everything from lamps to trains. The diggers, the daring and the brave, eek out a living by seeking out the precious stones: refractors.

These stones, found in crude dusty and sometimes the most elaborate mines, are honed to geometrical shapes and spun within various machines and steam engineering to produce the energies that can be used for machines of most any type. Replacing fossil fuels, the refractors make a boom bigger than the Gold Rush.

We start in the town of Moses, an exhausted mining town with failing resources and a desperate need to get it's people out. The next train arrives at seven O'clock on September 3rd, 18XX and is on a one-way ride to Jericho, the most successful mining town in the west.

People are ruthless, cut-throat, and ready to make a profit at any turn. The west is home to bandits, outlaws, and the diggers. Doctors, engineers, and all manners of occupations are available.

How will you begin your journey to Jericho?

The heavy winds and harsh sun had left their various marks on Hamilton's herd as he rode them into the town of Moses. Three ranch hands roped them into respective pins, they'd be sold off tomorrow, the fatter the the faster the sale. He adjusted this hat over his brown matted hair. The hands were stout and easy-going. They worked for Jordan Green Acres, the northern Ranch. It was run by the ranger company, thus it was little more than a sharecropper stead. Jordan Kniles the Captain of the South West March of Rangers ran it, and head of the Bovine Auction. His office was in town. Crossing the rails of the train yard Hamilton walked into civilization. The tallest building was three stories and the Inn, but the Ranger Office next door held the eye of the town. There was a string-thin man behind a desk inside. "How may I help you?" he said, his voice deeper than his figure let on. "Quarterheard; 25 cattle, one bull. Bill of sale is here." Hamilton placed a parchment with an envelope holding 26 tags. "Two hundred dollars to be wired to Dorado, and you're to give me my cut on site." The man looked annoyed. "I know the system Mr...Hayes. You need not worry, you'll get paid." Hamilton crossed his arms. "I know I will, right now." The Secretary frowned and placed a ∂50 bill on the counter. "You have a good day Mr. Hayes. Can we look to you for further assistance?" "Yeah, when I need money. Adios." Hamilton stepped back into the town, and sauntered into the Saloon and Inn.

Gabriel adjusted his black vest over the suit he'd purchased not a few days ago. His attire was a bit dark compared to the rest of the town, not that it mattered to him much. What mattered at this moment was the man that had walked into his Saloon, The Black Feather, and looked as if he was ready to spend the refractors.
"Sir! Welcome." He stepped to his countertop readying glasses and cups.
The obscurity of his marketing scheme was always noticed by the man who drunk the most- all his alcohol sat un-chilled on display.
"Any drink you like- chilled or not can be served at your tastes." Gabriel smiled earnestly at the man taking in his appearance.

"Sass, chilled." Hamilton sat at the bar, removing his hat and placing it beside him on the left stool. "Seems dead for the only place between Big Run and Los Rejos." he placed a few coins on the counter. "Any word on the Pioneers? I'm in bad need of work without a silver star."

"One sarsaparilla, chilled." Gabriel had placed the cold drink onto the counter before the man had finished. He smiled at the speed of his work, but kept up the man's conversation.
"Honestly sir, the last I had heard there was a meeting in the town at 8p.m. tonight. The mayor of Moses has declared a town meeting tonight for the local pioneers and those wanting to engage in the endeavors of the trade routes, mining camps, and all manners of work."

He smiled, now referring to the man's first statement, "As for this place sir, your judgment is correct- but in your favor. The town is kinda going under in a way, which means I've been spreading the word for closing the establishment. I'm sure you can understand. Everything is moving to Jericho, as I'm sure you've heard."

Aleda had been walking around Moses for a while now, but hadn't really noticed anything going on.
"It's really quiet here," she mumbled as she stood before what appears to the tallest building in the town. "Maybe this is a good place to start."
She looked up at the building's entrance and noticed it was the Inn. "Perfect, I can at least find a place to stay for the night."

Smoothing down her wrinkled attire doing the best she could to make her self at least somewhat presentable, she pushed open the door and walked in.

Sara loosened the scarf from around her face and took a deep breath as she stepped into the Black Feather. She was beginning to miss the smells and sights of the open trails, but the saloon was the best bet to find some work.
"One chilled sarsaparilla, please" She smiled slightly at Gabriel. So, heard of anyone in need of a guide?

"Jericho? You mean 93? Heard they hit a large bank, but talk is cheap on the road to Rejos. Guess that's where I'm headed, I'll stick around for any heading up tomorrow, guess I'll order some supplies. Where's the general store? Assuming you still have on a'corse." sipping the cold sass slowly Hamilton grins shallowly "You know, I could've been anything that I wanted to be. 'Stead I ended up herding for the Rangers." Downing the rest of his drink he replaced his hat and turned to leave. He turned "Ma'am," he tilted his hat to her. then turned to the keep "Adios."

Gabriel continued to talk to the man as two more people walked into the bar. -I thought people knew I was shutting down..- He thought as he poured a second sass upon request. He couldn't keep them all occupied if more showed up, so he played a bit of a silent dodge to the back room. "I'll be right back everyone, need to grab another sass bottle out of the chiller."
He walked around the back, ignoring questions by lifting a finger up in the air and rounding the back cover wall and listened to them all speak.

"Sir," she said to the man that appeared to be leaving as she walked in.

She looked around the room briefly and walked closer to the bar.
She just caught a glimpse of the bartender as he entered the back room.
"I guess I'll have to wait to talk to him." She said aloud though not meaning to.
She saw another woman in the saloon and debated engaging in conversation with her or not.
-I'm not sure how people take to strangers around here so I'll just wait to see if she says anything.-

"ma-" Hamilton started before being distracted by the large hat the woman wore."Ma'am" He then exited into the dusty wind making his way to the General Store.

Roland looked to the sky, taking a breath. He'd been on the train so long, it was nice to get fresh air, and actually stand. He'd arrived in Moses, from here, he'd need to get a wagon or something to ride to Jericho. To be honest, Roland was a tad spiteful that he needed to go halfway across the country just to get work. He was at an age where most men were set in their ways and were beginning to think about how they'd spend the later years of their life. Roland stepped off the platform, and began walking looking around, he needed to find a good starting place... Roland shifted his bag in his hand, it cased his tools for both his medical pursuits and his mechanical ones, though, truthfully a lot of them were the same tools. He entered the general store, it seemed a likely place to start, that or the saloon. He looked around, spotting a heavyset gentleman with red hair. "Hello sir, My name is Doctor Roland Price, I was hoping you could tell me someway one might find a way to Jericho, or at least point me to someone that could help me." He said clearly showing his education.

"Oh, hello," She said a little startled that the woman actually spoke to her.
"Why thanks, it's just a little something I picked up along the way." She responds to the comment about her hat.
"I'm just looking for a new beginning. Have a bit of a rough past. This seemed to be the place to start in this town." She sits next to the woman and briefly looks at the door that the bartender walked through.
"So, what brings you here? I haven't seen many people around."

This town is slowly dying. Gabriel is closing his place. As for me, I m looking for work. Gunman for hire.
Sara played with her empty glass for a while thinking. This place is talking about moving. You should consider following it. You seem to have a good personality and a good head on your shoulder. You could be useful on the trail. There will be a town meeting tonight. Stop in and take a seat.
