Another beautiful day. Each day begun rolling by just as quickly as the one before it. Her pups were growing, no longer the little blobs she had given birth to. Each had their own owners, but she was lucky enough that JB had decided to keep one for himself (or his wife, really). Ai would be able to spend a lot of time with her youngest daughter, and soon, she hoped that Kita would show the mentality of a fighter, and begin training sessions with her.

Today, Ai was outside, just near her owner’s home in the settlement. JB was becoming a little more lax, though would still keep her tether when need be. Today was not one of those days. The striped female was enjoying her life, leash free, soaking in the rays of sun. Her owner had left Kita in the nursery today, but she wondered if the other pups’ owner would take them outside for nice strolls. If she had it her way, she would let the pups live with her still, and be able to enjoy the nice days like today.

The day kind of felt like it was just passing him by, considering his owner was off at school while he was left to his own devices. Most his age would be ecstatic about his current situation, but for whatever reason Jak was neither here nor there about it. That was likely due to the fact that nothing has happened since she'd gone, and he was really... bored.

The brown-gray pup walked on, his paws already getting a bit tired from all the walking. He avoided the large carts and people roaming around the streets of the settlement, not wanting to get squished while he was still so young. The idea of going home had started to present itself, but after turning a corner all those thoughts vanished into thin air. The usual sort of irate frown was replaced by perhaps the widest grin he could manage as he bounded, tail wagging with excitement, toward a familiar striped mokai that was sunbathing just in the distance.

"Momma!" Jak cried happily when he reached her, burying his face deep into her fur. He was careful to dodge the scales though.

Ai’s head shot up as she heard the sound of the young male bounding towards her. “Jak?” The young male had collided with her. Ai smile wildly. She hadn’t seen her children in a while it seemed. “How have you been sweetheart?” she gave her son a few loving nuzzles, and a couple of licks on his head, just to make sure he was clean.

Her golden eyes narrowed after a moment as her ‘motherly duties’ went into play. “What are you doing out here alone? Where is your owner?” She took this moment to gaze around, not seeing a person that would be looking for a pup of his size. “You shouldn’t be out here on your own! It’s dangerous! There are mokai within these walls that can kill you.” She hated the slate colored male, and the fact that he had threatened her pups when they weren’t even born caused her to dislike him even more.

It'd been a while since the pup had last seen his mother, so this was probably the best thing to happen all week to young Jak. He returned the affectionate nuzzles, but squirmed and shook his head in protest when she started licking his head. "Ick," he said while making a face and fixing the fur on his head when she finished. He didn't miss this part so much, but since it was rare for him to see his mother he didn't make any more comments on it.

The bubble of glee that he was in suddenly popped when his mother started looking around with this.. look in her eye. He frowned and listened to her without saying a word. When she finished, "I know... was all he could manage to say at first. Burying his head into her fur again, he said, "My owner went inside this building with a lot of little two-leggers this morning. I think I'm supposed to go back there later... "

Even though Ai was thoroughly angry at her son for even thinking of walking out without his human, she couldn’t be too upset with him. He was her only son after all, and still a pup. If he was older, Ai would likely teach the other a lesson. Whether Jak would like it or not, leaving to go ‘exploring’ on their own was something a mokai with the collar did not do. Trouble would lie ahead, and sometimes others couldn’t be there to dig them out.

Ai nodded, though not liking his answer still. Nonetheless, she nuzzled her son, rising to her feet. She was much taller than the younger pup, but one day she was sure he would top her in size.

“I’ll take you back there. I still don’t want you wandering around the streets alone.” Her tone was stern, but motherly. “How did you wander out here so far?” she gazed around, as if looking for someone. “I would have thought someone seeing a wandering pup would put you back in the nursery.”

He waited for her to start scolding him, judging by the look that he had caught when he glanced up from burying his face into her side. It never came though, and instead she nuzzled him and got to her feet. Jak could only smile, albeit sheepishly, at that, and stood up with her, a smile on his face. Glad for the free pass, he listened as she took on a stern, motherly tone. The pup thought carefully about his answer, deciding in the end to just shrug and give her an honest answer. It wouldn't do to lie to either of his parents, after all.

"I walked from the building where all the little two-leggers were going into," he said, thinking back to just an hour or so earlier. Then he grinned up at her before answering her second question. "I stuck close to the buildings and avoided the streets where there are lots of the big two-leggers. I even went into an alley or two when I needed to."

Of course, he wasn't entirely aware of the dangers that possibly lurked in the alleys within the settlement, so, with the belief that he was smart for being able to duck into an alley and not get lost, he made the statement rather proudly.

Ai shook her head as her son spoke to her. She immediately began thinking about Erebus, and how these would be actions he probably would have done has a pup. When Jak had quieted down, she spoke. “You’re just like your father, you know that?” She told her son, nudging him slightly as she started walking.

The building where the little two-leggers were…? Ai had been there once or twice, just on a brisk walk, walking past, but never had stopped to take in the scene. There was never a reason too. JB always made sure that the little hands of the children would not touch her; for fear that Ai may get annoyed with them and bite them.

“Don’t you get scared wandering the streets by yourself?”

Like his father? The pup pondered the idea for a second, realizing that he really hadn't spent all that much time with the contributor of the other half of his genes; if his father like exploring though, then Jak was all for some father-son bonding. He smiled wide at the idea and laughed when his mother nudged him. "Really?" he asked, weaving between his mother's legs to cross to her other side. "Think he'd wanna take me around the settlement sometime?"

It was an indirect way of asking for a bit of company. Being a pup there were some things he was wary of running into while on his own, though he wouldn't admit that to anyone. At her question he shook his head. "Nope!" he replied, then added, "not anymore, anyway."

“I’m sure he would!” She knew that Erebus cared for the puppies just as much as she did. “How about I make you a deal? If you promise to not wander around the settlement by yourself,” she gave him a stern look, pausing as she walked towards the buildings. She resumed her movement, continuing, “Then the next time I see your father, I will tell him to take you around the settlement. How does that sound?” Ai would do so with Jak, but the fact in the matter she really didn’t want to get either of them in trouble with the two leggers if they weren’t returned when they should have been.

“Good boy.” She was rather proud that he wasn’t scared of the outside world. “Shows promise for your future career if you chose to do so.” Ai only hoped that all her children would follow in her and their father’s footsteps as fighters.
