The week long schedule of catch up classes had been grueling and boy was Lea glad now that the week had finally come to a close. With classes that lasted almost an entire day, surprise quizzes in addition to the usual daily assignments, he really had to pause and wonder if some of his instructors were demons in disguise as well as how the many students who had graduated from the academy as full-fledged witches managed to pull it off in the first place. He certainly hoped that he would have graduated from the academy and not have to go through something like that again when it came to this period of time the following year. One only needed to go through experiences such as this once to last them an entire lifetime. Maybe two lifetimes in his case.
It wasn't as if Lea was the type to skive or unable to deal with hardship for an extended period of time. The snow leopard mononoke just didn't like the way the schedule was depriving him of his naps and thereby affecting his mood as a result. While the number of hours of cumulative sleep he required on average daily was phenomenal for his age, Lea always made it a point to never ever nap in the middle of class so with the amount of sleep he got cut by more than half, he found his patience wearing thin with each progressive day and had to even make a conscientious effort to rein his feline predatory side in and refrain from biting off the heads of his classmates and his instructors.
Well... now that the week was all over and done with, Lea had allowed himself to indulge in a very heavy meal that consisted of 3 medium-raw steaks and 5 glasses of ice lemon tea. With his hunger pangs now sated, he was ready to settle down for an afternoon nap at his favourite spot in the school garden. A shaded, breezy spot beneath an ancient willow tree. Curling up on his side, he allowed his eyelids to drift shut, his ears twitching a few times as he flipped his tail such that it was wrapped around the lower half of his body and it wasn't long before he was snoring softly and fast asleep...

Philemon Menniadis had graduated from the academy with a fairly well overall grade, as a matter of fact he had aced most of his theoretical subjects, his grades being sub-par only where actual physical labour was involved. Of course, he had since then been undergoing rigorous training to make up for it, but was still finding himself to pale in comparison to so many people out there, especially his brother who was also studying under the same teacher; but in the end he was okay with it. No matter how much he stressed over the subject he had settled with the decision that this was how things where going to always be and he wouldn't wish them otherwise. He could be strong too, in his own special ways; which was why he had dropped by the academy on that day too since he had to discuss several things with the teachers that had overviewed his initial steps in the academy. After the incident in Lumena not too long ago he had decided to pursue his research even further, faster than before; it was all he could do to help Majin and humans both.
Getting out of the academy, his mind was set only on how to fit some quality time in his schedule in between that moment in time and having to go to work in a pair of clock cycles. Many people that knew him, but even people that didn't, were fast to realize that Phil was a person who liked to act in accordance to a very strict schedule. He had so many things to do and only nothing but twenty four hours to divide in between his research, individual work, job at the pharmacy, taking care of his plants and finding time to travel to Lumena for his calligraphy lessons and his side-training as well as quality time for himself, his friends and loved ones. Therefore, when a spot was cleared on his schedule for something different than the usual it usually had this habit of remaining blank unless some fateful occurrence should happen like a chance encounter for example.
And sure enough, it didn't take all that long for it to happen, for in his way out, he just happened to stumble upon a most peculiar sight; a sleeping mononoke, curled up and sleeping all peacefully under the shade of a willow tree. He paused, looking upon the boy for a few seconds wondering if he were cold and if he should try to wake him up, but then again he was sleeping so perhaps he was tired enough it didn't matter all that much. After all, Phil himself had fallen asleep outside, under the shade of a tree, during his trial at the Grave of Fairies no less. He drew closer, slightly curious, wanting to grab the chance to just take a closer look without coming off as nosy or rude. The only other mononoke he had come across were female after all, and you couldn't just ask a lady if she would kindly allow you to touch her ears or tail... and part of him just happened to ache with curiosity about how exactly those animalistic features felt to the touch. Logic dictated they should be soft and fuzzy just like an actual animal's but he couldn't help but want to test it out for himself to see. And before he knew he was already intruding, reaching a hand out to softly stroke one of the boy's ears before the thought it'd be severely awkward if he would happen to wake up hit him.

It was a dream that Lea hadn't had in a long time. He had just turned 5 that very morning, waking to find that his mononoke features had manifested which he fretted over initially like all kids his age would naturally. Worried that he would be henceforth branded a monster and shunned by all including his family. Yet he knew not how he could make the ears and tail go away. Other than cutting them off which he was starting to suspect would hurt. A lot.
He would never forget the parental affection that was reflected in his parents' eyes as they smiled and lifted his huddling form into their arms so that they could show him with their actions that their love for him hadn't changed despite what he had become. His younger sister, sweet little Lotti, laughing happily as she gently stroked first one ear then the other. Definitely curious of course but the fear that would inevitably lead to rejection which he was waiting for never came. And he was infinitely glad for it.
Still fast asleep, the snow leopard mononoke purred softly like a satiated kitty, his ears soft and pliable as it twitched slightly at Philemon's touch. "... Lotti..." A single, barely audible word muttered with a soft sigh and a raised hand slid along the witch's forearm, tugging it close to his face before emeralds blinked sleepily a few times as it met azures. "... who..?"
