Artificial light.
A humming noise. <********. He was in Dr. H's <******** labs.
Why the head of experimentation and artificial science was also in charge of medicine was beyond the Death Hunter entirely. Granted, the man was a genius, otherwise Caelius wouldn't be lying there, but it was something of an understatement to even began to explain how unorthodox his methods were. He wasn't even too sure how he was still alive. The world blurred, but not enough to miss a figure conveniently standing nearby.
"Glasses." Caelius said flatly, though it was just a wheeze. God, maybe he was brought here just so the other could make fun of him. The Death Hunter tried again. "Some ******** water would be nice." At least two words managed to squeeze out from this throat, though they suspiciously sounded like '********' and 'nice'.
Impatient of the silence, he tried to sit up: big mistake. Mentally he was ready to kill a few lab assistants for taking their grand old time, physically, he couldn't even manage to move one arm up. He glowered in the general direction where he thought the Life Hunter might have been standing, but it could have just been one of the life support cylinders, or maybe even one filled with some grotesque specimen, it was hard to tell.
He had at least three reports to fill out about this incident, a Council meeting to call, and he was lying here on some bed that Caelius was sure was not inhabited by something human prior to his arrival. This day couldn't get any better.

"Would you like someone to brush and braid your hair as well?"
This day was ********> Not only was the likely phenomenal ******** all on Caelius, but H had managed to save his life. Sure he had lost some equipment and specimens, but they still had a good few weapons gained from it (saved only due to the heroics of the Magnificent Doctor H) and no serious casualties (once, again, the doctor proves himself superior in every possible way.)
"It's a bit shorter now, and slightly singed...but I'm sure we can manage. Does that sound nice? Does ikkle Cael want hims some ribbons in his hair."

This was possibly the worst part about being brought in for 'special treatment', beyond lying in something that seemed rather viscously similar to slime, beyond whatever sort of unimaginable treatment agony. Dr. H would do anything to one-up Caelius: the two got along about as well as water and oil combined with oh, perhaps a nuclear explosive.
If the Death Hunter wasn't <******** paralyzed with pain he might had some of his usual rebuttals. But instead, he counted, long deep slow breaths, from one to ten, until there was silence again. There was no use wasting energy he didn't have.
"If you are done," He tried again, slightly pleased this time that he wasn't just audible through every fourth word, "I need to file that report on Aria." And then, after that please, God, someone, just put him out of his misery. "She is still-" regretfully -"alive."

"Oh I'm not going to be done for a long while, but out of sympathy for your horribly weakened, slightly disfigured state, I'll hold off for a little bit. Now, not that I don't feel a certain amount of sorrow concerning that infernal b***h's continued existence...but why does that fact require paperwork? More paperwork. In addition to the mountains of paperwork that will pour forth from the heavens and crush you the moment you seem well enough to hold a pen an write, I am a complete and total ********>

Caelius simply stared. And stared. At what he thought was the general direction of Dr. H's voice since the Life Hunter was conveniently trying to hole him up. No doubt the other interrogators were going to come up soon.
"You...." The Life Hunter had no clue about the entire Aria-slash-Red incident, which pretty much meant that the trainees had said nothing about the entire incident, which pretty much meant that everyone but him was a total ******** moron. Screw pain, screw everything, at this point, Caelius was pretty much blindsighted by rage. "Aria has been an impostor for the last three months and I am the only person that noticed?!"
Vaguely, he felt a sharp pain. Oh, he was bleeding again. Probably from the outburst. Maybe he could die peacefully now, no scratch that, there was no way the Death Hunter would ever consider passing away next to Dr. ******** Oblivious H.

"Hmmmmm..." Dr. H shifted a bit and scratched his chin. Needed a shave...three days ago, but baby-fresh was the Death Hunter's style, not his own. But Aria? An imposter? "Well that's interesting, we'll have to update security. Regular check-ups for individuals, set up FEAR monitors within the complex...nothing beyond my skill, of course. A days work, maybe two. Hmmm-hm-hmmm...and that would be problem solved. And I could even manage to do it without putting nearly our entire set of fresh trainees at risk. Not to mention a great deal of fairly expensive equipment."
The Life Hunter made himself comfortable in this visitor's chair, and steepled his fingers as he considered the man in the bed, "Let me guess. You were going to use this to your advantage, hm? Playing a little Spy vs Spy with whoever it was. Must've been quite fun, really, can't say that I blame except that I do." He leaned back in the hair with a satisfied sigh, "I wonder if they'll pull you out of the intelligence division for this...do you at least know where the real Aria, that hideous c**t, has been all this time?"

Ah s**t. He was feeling dizzy again, even though Dr. H probably took great joy in not sedating anything as they worked. Once a psychotic scientist wanted in thirty different countries always a psychotic scientist wanted in thirty different countries.
As the Life Hunter continued to ramble about risks and pulling him out of his own ******** division, Caelius ran the past events through his mind. At some point between the last incident on the Island involving the horsemen and the Soul Harvester incident, Red had taken over as Aria. What was more perplexing was how none of the sensors had detected any abnormality.
But the most baffling question was not how Red got her hands on a weapon, as Dr. H was not the most competent man when it came to organization, but rather, how she got her hands on Aria's weapon. Bonded weapons did not change partners halfway ever. It would make more sense if the Mist Hunter was actually dead, a pity really, but all signs pointed to the fact that she wasn't. Aria's personal Golem was still in use: it was not deactivated, she was connected remotely. It would take time for Caelius to get out of this sorry mess and actually do something about this entire breach in competency, but he wanted answers now.
A part of him vaguely realised that the "good doctor" was asking him a question. "No." The Death Hunter blithely replied, making a good show of feigning stupidity: no point of letting Dr. H come to all the wrong conclusions. The Death Hunter division had a single but efficient rule: no compendium, no results until all the puzzle pieces were properly put in place. The Hunter Council, in general discounting of course the Life Hunter who simply lived in a special world of him own, knew this law and respected it, as they had for years and years. It also gave Caelius, who knew that he was the only solid witness outside of those incompetent trainees some leeway to reconcile. Apply - or rather demand - for an extension for the follow up report, then the find real Aria. After that he was going to drag her sorry a** right up to the Council to take the blow for him.
The room was actually ******** spinning now, and the injured patient tried his best to slowly clench his numb hands into fists and grip onto consciousness. Questions. There were still questions. God, was Dr. H still lingering there? That sadistic b*****d. Although....
"Weapons." Caelius half-muttered. "Weapons. Can weapons be cloned?" It was the only missing piece to the entire Aria-Red debacle, and if Aria still had her weapon or traces of it, the rest would be a cake walk.

Wow. That was informative. It was like trying to pry information off a five-year-old.
"Humour me then. Person A has the same weapon as Person B. How is that possible?"

"...are you sure you're head of Intelligence? You use twins of course. If they're identical prior to becoming a weapon, they'll be identical afterward, as they have the same basic Core for their FEAR to reorganize itself around. And before you ask, yes, Aria's gun is indeed one half of a set. I'll send someone to check the Cove once I'm through with you."

Twin weapons.
Twin ******** weapons.
Was that even-
- No. Count on the Life Hunter to be able to explain something like that. Caelius wondered if Dr. H was inadvertently the one who created the entire 'twin weapon' debacle, it was too bad he had no solid proof.
"You do that." It was too bad the Death Hunter missed out on the last bits of the sentence entirely, lost in half-conscious thought. Aria. Red. Twin weapons. Complications.
He closed his eyes for a second, just a single second.

Seeing the other man drop off, the doctor remained seated. Eventually he leaned back fully and just stared at Caelius, eyes sharp and calculating. He'd always thought the Death Hunter was given too much freedom...perhaps it was time to monitor him a bit more closely.
