Panting heavily she climbed up out of the dry river bed and stumbled to a walk, tongue lolling out the side of her maw as she glanced back behind her, over one shoulder, tiny gasped giggles escaping between her ragged breathing. That had been close! She had been happily hunting a small family of hares when a pair of large wild dogs had turned up, the two brothers had taken offence at her nearness and after much posturing they had attacked. She had to admit she hadn't really helped the situation... she had teased them about being too stuck up to share with her and called one fat and the other ugly... never mind that they were fat and ugly..

They had chased her for miles, up and down the plains until at last she had found the dry river, ducked down inside and legged it as fast as she could. It seemed to have worked for they hadn't followed her for more than a mile or two ad after taking several forks in the river, she had finally thrown them off her tail.

Letting herself catch her breath she turned back forwards and looked about, graceful ears pricking up. Now... where the heck was she?

Nefretket was, once again, on the very boundaries of her isolated Prides territory. Not for any reason to be a trouble maker, but more for the fact that she couldn't for get the young dark lion she had found here beside the falls, so badly hurt and obviously gifted with some kind of Sight, though tho him it seemed more a curse.

She'd helped him, healed him as best she could, tending him at the very edge of the lands she called home, for outsiders were not received well, and she did not wish to endanger him more. He'd made her heart sing, and those few weeks he had stayed her dances were filled with joy, and when he left, thanking her politely, his haunted eyes telling her another vision had come and he must leave to cover the ground to make it one time to warn the small colony of wild dogs, her heart had shattered, for she then realized she'd been half in love with him. the first love she'd ever known.

So now, ever so often, Nefretket came here, to the falls and remembered the dark pelted lion with his haunted wine colored eyes, and prayed that the One God was looking after him, and letting him find rest and love in another's paws.

Scenting the fresh coolness of copious water, she turned and headed towards it, soon enough, after climbing a small bluff, she found herself at what appeared to be the base of a forest, the lush green rising up above her and the waterfall, dear spirits a real live waterfall, singing its joy as it plunged into a glittering pool of clear water.

"Ain't that a sight." She grinned, barely remembering to glance around herself before heading directly to the glittering apparition, though it wasn't until the chill of the pool caressed her muzzle did she allow herself to believe it was real. Sighing with pleasure she lapped blissfully at the sparkling water, feeling the delicious chill tingle through her body all the way to her toes.

Nefretket startled at the sound of paws coming up the lee side of the pool. For one silly moment her heart skipped a beat, and she thought maybe it might be him. It wasn't of course, it was foolish for her to think so, but he soaring of her heart when she had, that had been a feeling she would hold onto and place into the night's dance, freely giving it back to her god as a thank you for the joy, however small, it had brought her,

Turning her rose colored eyes back to the brightly colored hyena who drank from the Pride's waterfall, she smiled and stepped from where she had been sitting looking into the water.

" Ichulim' Nefretket said, her voice was warm, " Welcome to the border of the En Gdei lands. Please, feel free to drink your fill and rest some, but then you must move on."

She hadn't seen the young feline where the stranger sat upon the shore of the pool. Sleek head lifted sharply, her own amber eyes fixing on the rather... strange looking cat opposite. She was like none of the other felines Ikenna had met before, and she had met a fair few in her short life.

Only after she had studied the other female for a few long moments did she register what the stranger had said. "The En-who?" That certainly wasn't one of the prides she had met before... those damn males had really chased her far further than she had guessed. And this one seemed.. friendly, and yet not at the same time.. offered to stay but told to move on? One brow lifted as the hyena blinked at the feline opposite. "I take it you guys don't like hyenas then hu?" She commented causally, seeming far from upset and rather more curious almost.

"Ani Medaberet Ivrit' Nefretket told her, walking forward a little, coming to a nook in the corner of one of the outcroppings, pulling out some leaf wrapped fish. She kept some there, coming almost every other day in hopes. She may as not let this meal go to waste.

" It is not that we do not like hyena, it is that we do not care for any outsiders."

She laid the fish down between them, a far distance from them both so the hyena wouldn't feel threaten. " but I can offer you some food, and a little rest at least."

The strange words made Ikenna blink again, muzzle wrinkling in puzzlement, not yet sure if the stranger was simply being obtuse, or was secretly saying bad things. Then the other explained if not the words, then her weird non-friendly friendliness... "Well... a xenophobic pride eh? That's not totally unusual... but shouldn't you be more wary of me then? Why offer the use of your resources if you don't like strangers?"

She watched the leaf-wrapped fish with curiosity. An offering? To keep Ikenna away or to keep her hunger sated so she didn't attack? For a moment she was unsure if she should be offended or not, but then shrugged and simply took the gift at face value. Why complicate things when often there was no reason to do so.

"Thanks... I appreciate it. Was a long and ah... stressful journey up 'ere. I wont linger long, just want to wait till those brutes are well and truly away from me." Padding over she flopped down on the sun-warmed rock and tucked into the offered fish, perfectly content to feast with the strange feline close by. She figured she could take the other if it came to it, the strangely built female looked fairly subservient, not exactly the fighting type, so Ikenna didn't worry overly about her.

The hybrid gave the hyena a warm smile, a slight sadness at its corners, " Something like that. We just keep to ourselves."

She sat at a respectful distance from the hyena allowing her to eat and not feel threatened in anyway. " If you don't mind me asking? Why did you get chased up here and why?" She titled her head.

For Nefretket, who was very innocent is so many ways, she didn't understand hate for hatred alone. It was a concept fully alien to her. It was why her short time with Luith and not only confused her, but opened her eyes as well, which left her only more confused.

The hyena was perfectly happy to tuck into the gift. After all, it was rude to refuse a gift and she didn't want to seem rude to this rather insular but otherwise fairly nice cat.

Pausing at the question she tilted her head, tall ears pricking forwards. "Well... a pair of males decided they didn't like me being near them, even though I was the first one in the area. I may have pointed out that they had no right to tell me what to do, and they took some offence to my assumption that they weren't all-powerful and chased me. If they had caught me, they would have hurt me badly, so I ran and ended up here... it seems." Pausing she glanced about at her surroundings then dipped her head back to her meal.

After a few more bites she paused and lifted her head, studying the stranger. "I have a question for you... what are you? I've not seen someone like you before."

Nefretket looked over at the hyena, her eyes wide, shock in the them, " They were going to hurt you? Just for being in the same place you were? Why?"

When the hyean asked her what she was, she looked down and blushed, " I my father was a cheetah, and my mother, well...she is a lion. I live with her and my siblings in our Pride."

She gave a little laugh, " It happens sometimes, and well...I'm the result. I don't mind though. My Pride treats me the same as any other member. I won't have cubs of my own, but I believe someday the one God will being a cub to me that will need a mother and I will be the one to be there for that cub."

She shrugged gracefully, the motion making her dark ruby fur ripple. "Its pretty common out there you know. 'Th strongest survives' and allt hat... if your female its generally harder to get along. The males either want to use you or see you as a pest and chase you. Hunting alone is pretty tough too, you need as much brain as brawn. But its a good life ya know? Freedom to do as you please, go where you please... and truthfully, it is fun to torment the males." Grinning broadly, displaying her razor sharp teeth, the young hyena gave her unexpected companion a wink. "They tend to be so pompous and over bearing that I just can't help but tease them."

Resuming her meal as she listened to the feline's explanation as to her roots, Ikenna was certainly intrigued. "Well.. its a strange match for sure, but so long as your happy I guess. You ever see your dad?" Nodding faintly she smiled. "Well.. I am sure you will find that cub one day. Though you know... the rogue lands are full of lost cubs.. most die of course, without a parent around they have no hope of surviving."

Nefretket laughed," Yes, teasing males is fun. I tweek the Prince's tails all the time."

At the mention of cubs without mothers, and left to die, it made Nefreket look down at her paws, " I wish I could leave, to find one, I'd bring it home."

She swallowed, and turned toward the gap that lead away from the protected lands of her Pride, " Stay as long as you need, go ahead and sleep if you have to. I won't tell anyone you are here...and, I come here most days. If you ever are hurt, and are close try and make it back here. It is the most I can offer."

Ikenna looked thoughtful for a moment. "If I come across a cub when I'm near by, I'll bring it here for you." Nodding to herself she finished the last bite of the fish. "Thank you, that is a very kind offer and I may take you up on it some day." Offering a smile she yawned suddenly and rubbed a paw across her eyes.

"I may do so.. I am pretty tired after running so far." Standing she padded over to the cliff and then under the side of a large slab of rock where it formed a partial cave against the cliff face. Settling down inside she curled up, nose to tail, and closed her eyes.

"Thank you for the fish, Nefretket." She said softly before settling down to sleep.
