Hello, This is a place where you can introduce yourself to your fellow guild members.

My name's EnglandXLove, but I go by Lauryn, England, and sometimes Hey You!. I have been role playing for 8-ish years, and have been on gaia since 2004 ((I had a different account.))

Hello, I'm Chozlit. I go by Chozlit or Choz. I've been role playing for about three years and I have been on Gaia since... I don't know. All I know is that I've been on for at least 700 days.

Hey sup!!!!! razz
I am larane1, You can call me Larane, you, or really anything I don't care about what I am called much. I have been roleplaying for about a year maybe less but I am a quick learner and catch o fast!!! The way I learned about forums and guilds was from a friend who was in her friends guild and from there I went South, currently I am in about 9 guilds and active in each and every one. I own a guild, no need to say it it's on my sig!!! I have been enrolled in gaia for about a year now I learned about guilds like a week or two after I enrolled so the time period of the two should be quite similar. I am always looking for friends so feel free to friend me and well if you'd like to talk we can I have lots-O-free time. biggrin

Guess it's my turn, then, is it? I'm not big on these introduction things, but here ya go. I think my username says it all, so no need to remember another name for me. My only character right now is my lovely Icelander, but we'll see how the RP here goes before I decide on adding new ones.

As for how long I've been roleplaying... about 7 to 8 years. A few things about my RPing style and things I've seen others do that get annoying really quickly.

Warning: I may begin a long diatribe here and there. I don't mean it to be aimed at anyone and I'm not trying to be mean - I've just got a few pet peeves that can really get me going. So, forgive me, please! I really need to rant ... and let y'all know my RP style at the same time.

Quote:

1. I'm very much a character player - I'd rather spend most of my post delving into my character's psyche than rushing through a plot. I enjoy taking my leisurely time in the RP, very much preferring a 10-page thread with character development and intricate and subtle plot twists and such to a 2-page thread that rushed through all the action and romance. So know now that I will drag a thread out, especially if I feel like others are plot-rushing. (A side-note of caution: plot-rushing (along with god-modding) is one of my biggest pet peeves.)

2. I'm big on spelling and grammar. Call me a nerd, but I enjoy writing and reading posts that have correctly-spelled words, commas in the right spots, and periods between sentences. Capitalize the word "I", please, and - for the love of all things holy - please put periods at the ends of sentences. Don't just connect them with the word "and" all the time, please. Reading a paragraph that, under normal circumstances, is six different sentences but, without periods, is one giant one is extremely difficult, tiring, and frustrating. Where am I supposed to separate one idea from the other? When do I have time to breathe when I'm rushing through a single-sentence paragraph? And chat-speak? Please don't use it, because I might just sigh and close the tab. Not only does it shorten posts, but it makes them difficult to understand, too. Since this is a semi-lit to lit board, I'm not to worried about this. It's just another gripe I have. ... Well, I think you all get it. Sorry about the rant.

3. Another pet peeve of mine: god-modding. Characters cannot and should not be perfect - be they invincible, able to know everything another character is thinking, or what have you. Flaws create interesting characters. Imperfections create conflict which create interesting threads. Need I say more? ... Yes, I think so. Forgive this small rant, please, but I need to rant for a moment to someone. Just because you want to win a fight doesn't mean your character will be able to doge all attacks, nor does it mean you can choose what your attacks do to the other player without their consent. (That is, I dodged your attack then attacked you, causing you to fly into the brick wall behind you. I didn't consult with you - I just typed it in the same post and now you have to deal with it.) Similarly, if a player types something like, "Sadness welled up inside him, but being in the present company, he suppressed it and smiled." does not mean that your character can know, "Oh, he's smiling only as a front because he's secretly sad." Just because someone types something in a post doesn't mean your character is allowed to know it. Just like if your friend is thinking about tacos, you're probably not going to know that's what he or she is thinking about unless you asked them, they stated it, or there were some obvious clues. ... Okay, I think that's done.

4. Here's a short one - write long posts. Four sentences is nothing. Ten sentences is. Three paragraphs is even better. And add substance - not just some quick dialogue and a few "she said"s.

5. Lastly - I promise - is relationships between characters. Player A and B what their characters to fall in love and get married? Fine by me. By all means! They're not my characters, after all. But there's a difference between a realistic relationship (A got a crush on B, A asked B out, B said yes, they go on dates, they have a fight here or there, etc., etc., etc.) and the kind of character relationships I tend to see: A and B meet for the first time and, literally 5 in-game minutes later, realize they are both deeply in love, can't be apart, and one thread later are engaged to be married. No conflicts (or very minor ones, if there are), no breaking up and dating other people (like normal 16-year-olds), no ... anything! Nothing interesting, nothing unique. It's just "I suddenly love you and you're the only one forever". All. The. Time. Please, I beg you all - flirt, date, fight, break up, date someone else, fall back in love with the first person - do something more original!

Phew! Okay, I needed to rant for a bit. Also, it gets my pet peeves and stuff out in the open, so now you all know what not to do if you're in a thread with me. I promise I'm not as scream as it probably made me sound (ask EnglandXLove - she'll vouch for me.) I really do look forward to RPing with you guys! 3nodding
