I think I'm going to create a new file in Origins to play casually. Pretty sure the only origin story I haven't played all the way through is the casteless dwarf, and I'll probably make her a rogue. I know crossbow requires more strength and a regular bow requires more dexterity, but that's about it. I've never played Origins as a dual-weild rogue either, so I'm pretty lost. Help please? (:

As a rule crossbows tend to be more powerful and have a greater range then bows. However the downside of crossbows is that they take longer to reload and no stat affects their damage so higher leveled archers would benefit from a bow while a low leveled one would probably be better off with a crossbow until they build up their dexterity

Through all the ridiculous number of times I played through Origins, I only had one rogue. He was an archer, and his second set was two blades. Is there any better way to build a rogue?

It depends how you want to play. Archers as a whole tend to inflict more damage especially with the Arrow of Slaying and a few other talents but Arrow of Slaying uses a LOT of stamina and you're kind of screwed if enemies manage to get close to you unless you put some talents into melee so you're not completely defenseless. Dual wielding rogues benefit from Momentum, to greatly increase the speed of your attack speed, and the ability to backstab for increased damage especially with Coup de Grace. However, rogues being rogues, generally aren't as good as a warrior when it comes to close combat. But the Evasion talent helps them last longer or even the Feign Death talent if things get really bad. Both have their pros and cons and it really comes down to the player to decide which is better. I personally prefer a DW rogue because you're right in the middle of the action and that's more interesting to me then just sitting back and firing arrow after arrow.

Yeah, I was really surprised when I played as an archer by how effective the bow was. Still, I think I will try dual-wield rogue if I can do it well. Maybe weapon and shield warrior (if I can be a warrior as a casteless dwarf) since I almost always end up ditching the shield in favor of the two-handed weapon.

Is the duelist class you get from Isabella in the Pearl. It allows you to last even longer than Evasion alone would but it IS built on the idea of singles combat like a true duelist would be. Food for thought. Also I recommend Legionnaire, very fun spec.

(: to answer a lot of youir questions in my own way: crossbows use str to determine usage instead of dex so if you have a higher str you would use them. they're slower but often have better range and damage and again no bonus as has been said. dual wielding rogues (in my experience) are incredible DPS. I personally love being a dual wield rogue over archer, mostly cuz at least in DA1 they are a bit nerfed and being an archer is kind of a pain in the arse seeing as it's so hard to get the ai to go in front of you. archers are good for long range support while dual wield are up front and flanking/dps characters. the difference is in the role they play in the party. my parties are typically a healer, dps, tank/damager, and archer. msotly in da2 I'll have an archer because who could go without varric am I right?

Thanks guys, I'll try DW rogue. (:
@Daemonsparta: I could never leave Varric! Sebastian on the other hand...
EDIT:I made my casteless. Is it weird that all my prettiest Wardens are dwarves? All of my humans and enves turn out lumpy and pointy...

Crossbows are more powerful. They're slower though.
