FUNNY movie! Sure it followed the comic versions of Jay and Bob, as Jay was quick to point out to Holden in Chasing Amy, but that just gave more oppertunities to throw in oddball humor. I only wish he hadnt let other people influence the him as much doring the shooting..

I am a mall clerk and as such have an appreciation for this movie. True enough that I have my "Fashinable Male" moments... more so during the Christmas season... but I've been working in the mall for about 4 years now.
Fun enough, we have had a mysterious stage errected in the mall before... roughly around Easter, but it didn't turn out to be a game show... it was a stupid fashion show. I think there's going to be another fairly soon. Maybe someone will make blue prints to bring down the stage whee

About all I can say is that this is by far the most watched movie of his that I've seen. And the first one I saw. And I still find it enjoyable every time I watch it. <3
The original version of the opining of the movie makes later bits of dialogue make more sense.... makes me wonder how it would have turned out if he wasn't told to make changes....

I'm glad they didnt go with the original opening though, it was a lot more drawn out and not as funny as the one they went with. I love that cousin walt story, its on my webpage somewhere readu to be streamed, all i need to do is link to it again, the file is there but no way to get to it sweatdrop

I never actually READ those pages of proposed script. Just saying a couple comments later in the movie make more sense if you know about the original opening.

The original beginning isn't bad but it was way too drawn out and was a little too "big budget" for my tastes and I am glad they went with the "cousin walt" monologue. It adds a deeper appreciation for who Brody Bruce is intelectually...sadly I took an online poll...one of many over the years and I came up as to which Mallrats character I was...I was Brody Bruce....hey, just because a guy reads comics...oh wait...we need to keep this clean don't we.

I don't know what it is about this film but nearly every person I meet that I happen to have a conversation about View Askew/Kevin Smith movies with will say that this is the only/first movie they've seen of his or its their favourite xp But to be totally honest, I do not doubt any of them when they say its the first movie they've seen of Kevin Smith. It was my first View Askew film xd And this was before I even knew of Kevin Smith confused Not until a friend of mine continued to talk about him then we ended up watching the whole quadrilogy, at the time xp
After watching the rest of the films though, I've got to admit that Mallrats, though it may have been the movie that popped my View Askew cherry, is probably my least favourite film of his sweatdrop Even with the greatness that is Brody, his monologue of Cousin Walt and laying my eyes on Joey Lauren Adams' bosom...I just didn't like this film as much as the others sweatdrop Along with Dogma but I don't tell everyone that 'cuz I know many people personally who think that its Smith's greatest movie xd Big rubber poop monster, Selma Hayek dancing to Candy Girl, Jay talking, eh that was pretty much it for me xp
I really need to start collecting the DVDs though sweatdrop I've got all the tapes, except for Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back which I do have the DVD for but bleh, I want the DVDs xd I've also, unfortunately, only have the Movie Network version of An Evening with Kevin Smith and Vulgar sad

I just got my hands on Mallrats recently, and I fell in love with it. 3nodding The Jay and Silent Bob stuff just killed me. xd I agree that the 'cousin walt' monologue was the right way to go for the opening, tho. I didn't really find the first version all that funny. sweatdrop

I think it is a brilliant film and very underrated by people. There are some great shots and the Jay and Silent Bob moments all but make the movie.

By far my favorite Askewniverse flick, I'm eagerly awaiting the special edition release of it -- including a Q&A, etc, like Clerks X.
Although the set-up was good for the original opening, I prefer Lee's Cousin Walter monologue as well, it's a good segway that gives the audience a feel for what kind of movie they're about to see, if they aren't faimilliar with Kevin Smith's work.
My favorite character is in Mallrats, Brodie Bruce (I have an inaction figure sitting atop my TV), and I think Lee gave him amazing life. I particulary like the exchanges about superhero sex organs with Stan Lee. Pure genius.

I hate the editing they've made to Mallrats in order to show it on TV.... they're showing it on WE for crying out loud.... Women's Entertainment.... LAME!!!! stressed
Also it's 2 in the freaking morning... and it's cable/satellite.... I think they can get away with the words s**t, damn, and a** stressed . To boot, they needed at least a pack a day smoker to dub over Jason Mewes....

To boot, they needed at least a pack a day smoker to dub over Jason Mewes.... On WE...that's...surprising... eek At least Comedy Central shows Dogma and J&SBSB on their late-night, uncensored Secret Stash block sometimes. Though i wish they would just use bleeps or cuts when they show Dogma in the afternoon, instead of dubbing in words, which is so annoying since one word is clearly mouthed and another word that doesn't fit the mouthing at all is used.

I love the soundtrack here. heart heart heart Bubbles is like my favorite Bush song. The action scenes in it are sorta... I dunno, I don't want to say lame... but.. lame? Eh. This movie is so 90's in the best, best way. I wish I could have seen it in the theatres with all the other sweet people that must have been there. Hehe, I woulda been to young for any of them to want to chill with.
