Noah had been having something of a hard time lately. Damages to his business, quitting waitstaff, crazy girls in sailor suits, the usual. But there was still time for dabbling in various activities. And tonight, we try the mysterious, magical world of martial arts.

He walked into the class, all psyched up for his first night of lessons tonight. Like all fleeting interests he had, he probably wouldn't be here long term, but for now he was wondering why it hadn't occurred to him to sign up before now.

Sure, it was a little embarrassing being his age and only just starting in a classroom of varying levels of skill, but whatever. The lavender haired man walked around with probably more confidence than a beginner should have, but the whole reason he was here was to learn.

And see if he could learn any moves worthy of a Bruce Lee movie. Maybe a little more research on Google was in order, but whatever, he was here, let's get to kicking and punching already.

She'd skipped a week of practice due to some turmoil and other projects so she was here tonight to make up for it. She was quiet in the corner on a private mat. The owners of the place knew her well. She'd been there for years and now had her 3rd degree black belt. She had no intention or desire to go higher than that. It meant she knew how to kick butt when pressed and do it well.

The crowd was sparse, mostly beginning kids and teens. She spotted the purple haired guy and wondered if he was here with a child or here to learn. If he was here to learn it was the wrong night for that. Adult beginner classes were held on Thursdays. Once they got through warm up he'd be pulled into the beginner class surrounded by kids. How embarrassing!

She came over and tried to intervene, her green hair pulled back and her ghi showing her rank. Well, the belt on it showing her rank. She was still approachable, though. It was impossible for Kyn not to seem friendly and open. She was a teacher and used to interacting with new people like this.

"Are you looking for someone? Your kid?"

Normally parents left or waited in the chairs by the windows for their children. He was on the mat so she was confused, clearly. Not that the idea of a full grown man taking lessons confused her...everyone started somewhere. She looked patiently at him for his answer.

Noah was jerked out of the flurry of his own self indulgent thoughts when a green haired instructor spoke to him.

His first reaction was a knee jerk, "Huh?" and then after he had time to process what she was asking and combine it with his surroundings, more specifically the people in them, all he had to say was a defeated "Crap."

"No I'm not. Hell, I don't even have kids... far as I know, amirite?" He joked with an awkward laugh to try to make up for that very defensive 'No' at the beginning of his sentence.

He felt stupid the second it was out of his mouth.

"Ugggh, I guess I thought it was Thursday," He muttered. "Crap. I guess I just... come back, huh?"

Kyndall leveled her gaze at him, not very impressed by his joke. She'd raised a daughter alone for sixteen years, after all, and hadn't relished the extra burden not having her father in the picture presented. It was a delicate give and take. Having his support would have been nice but he wasn't the type of man she wanted raising her daughter.

Still, he was here and obviously wanted some sort of a lesson, or structure. Perhaps it would do him good. She shrugged.

"Not necessarily. I can work with you privately, if you like. There are some mats in the back room for the advanced students. I can start you on the basics."

Like every other beginner. She wasn't sure what he'd be expecting but it sure wasn't going to be anything out of a Jet Li movie. First was form, discipline and then on to basic punches and kicks. It would be a while before he even learned a combo. Adults generally went at a faster pace than the children but it all depended on him and his willingness to learn. She certainly didn't mind teaching. If it got him into the dojo to train she was all for it. Her masters had done a lot for her.
