“Stop it, stop it, stop it!” The young genet ran as fast as she could, spotting her lion bond up ahead, chatting with the new lioness of the pride. “KIPPY! MAKE HER STOP!” Lina yelled, dive under that large lions stomach, and away from the bird flying after her.
“…What’s going on?” The white lion asked confused.
“Kalani was just chasing Lina.” The yellow lioness responded, glaring at the blue bird.
“We were just playing.” Kala rolled her eyes, landing next to Kati. “Honest!”
“Yeah, if ‘playing’ means pecking at my tail and trying to carry me away.”
“Was not.”
“Was too!”
“Not!”
“Too!”
“Not!”
“Enough!” Both lions chorused.

“She started it.”
Lina gasped, coming out from under Kip with a small hiss. “DID NOT.”
“Did too!”
“Not!”
“Too!”
“Come on, Kipofu.” Kati nudged the blind male while the two familiars bickered behind them. “I bet they will be out here for hours. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather not listen to it.” The female lioness smirked.
The blind male stared blankly at the other. “O…okay.” His ears pinned back to the bonds, following the sound (and feeling of her tail) of the other female. He could already hear the two voices getting quieter, which either meant that they had stopped their fighting, or they were a distance away from them.
“The two of them are just like cubs, I swear sometimes.” Kipofu had been around enough cublings to know how they acted. Being sightless meant not being able to do much else besides watching others. Or rather listening to others

“Sooner or later they will get to like each other. Maybe.” Kati gave a small smile as she stopped, staring into the heart of the pridelands. Her tail curled around her paws, soaking in the sun.
When Kip felt that Kati had stopped, he did too, inching up behind her slightly until he nudged her lightly, He sat down beside her.
“You seem awfully quiet today.” The two of them had been almost inseparable since their first meeting. Kip had promised that he and Lina would show them around the pride, and that they had done. It had taken a few days extra in doing so, as Kipofu was slower than your ‘average’ guide, but Katika didn’t mind. She was enjoying the sights of the pride anyways.
“Oh? Hmm… I guess you could say I’m a bit distracted is all.”
“Really?” The lion tilted his head. “How so?”

“I really shouldn’t say…”
“It’s okay. Is it about the pride?”
“…No..”
“Okay…Hmmm… Is it about…your previous life before the pride?”
Kati shook her head, but still answered, “No it’s…got nothing to do with me.”
“…”Kip was silenced for a minute. “Does it have to do with me?”
Now it was Kati’s turn to be quiet.
“Does it have to do with…my eyes?”
Again, silence.
“It’s no problem! I’ve told this story to many youngsters before, and other lions my age alike. I don’t mind telling those about it. Some find it rather intriguing, you know?” Kip smiled to the unknown, feeling the tension slowly dissipate in the air. “Now…where should I begin.”
“Look…you don’t have too! I shouldn’t have said anything!”
“Nonsense!”

…”If you’re sure?” she wouldn’t argue if the male was going to insist. She certainly was intrigued. She knew he couldn’t have been born without sight, the long scar that plagued his nose, crisscrossing over his eyes made it very aware that someone else had done it to him.
“I’m sure! The way I like to think about it, is it was the past. You can’t change the past, but you can educate others about it. That being said, I don’t remember exactly what happened myself. My father told me this story.”
Kati’s ears perked forward, listening intently.
“You see, I was born in a rather large litter. My mother had given birth to nine cubs. I don’t remember which one I was, but I do remember my father telling me just how weak my mother was after that. She had a sister…my aunt…who hated her for some reason. She had found my mother, and…and attacked her. My father couldn’t do anything about it, it was either protect his mate, or protect his children…” Kip paused, ears flicking back and forth. “I guess I tried to stop her, because my father told me how I wandered out after my aunt. She sliced me across the face. I…never had a chance to see. Who knows, maybe I was just born this way, and it was a sheer coincidence that vision evades me.” Kip shrugged lightly, giving a grin towards the void where the lioness was. “It’s a sad story, I should stop…”

Katika shook her head. “No..I’m…intrigued! Please…keep going.” Kati thought she had a horrible past, who knew that Kipofu had an equally terrible one. “I mean…if you want to…” She averted her gaze, feeling a bit horrible that she insisted he keep reminiscing his past.
Kipofu nodded, staring into the unknown. “I was born in the Pridelands, but left soon when I began growing my mane. I didn’t want others doting on me, like I was something helpless. I found a guide, who wanted just as much independence from the world as I did. We somehow bonded, where it became an inseparable relationship. However, I didn’t realize what exactly she was. My guide was a prey beast, in which attracted this awful lion who instigated an attack on her. She was injured severely, and I couldn’t protect her. I don’t know why the lion didn’t finish the job, but she had lived with the help of some pridal lions. After that moment, I had come to the conclusion that she should be with her own guide. I left her with someone else, someone who promised he would take care of her.” Kip’s feelings probably would have been more settled to know that he left Lonny with a god. “I haven’t seen her since…I have a feeling she is fine though. Our bond was too strong. One day I hope to meet her again.”
“…I’m sure you will. What was her name?”
“…Her name was Lontu, but I always called her Lonny.”
“Well, if I see anyone that sounds like that, I will send her your way.” Flashing her smile towards the male, she spoke next. “Is that when you made it here?”
Kip nodded. “It’s not my birth home, but it sure is a place I call home now. Apart from being able to protect Lonny more, I wouldn’t change it any other way.”
“I wouldn’t either.”

“THERE YOU ARE!” chorused a pair of familiar familiars.
“We thought you got lost or something. Not taking us with you.” Lina said sadly, running up to Kipofu as she hugged his large leg. “Don’t leave me again, please?” Her giant puppy dog eyes went unnoticed to the blind male.
Kalani ended up perching on Kati’s back, preening on her head. “What the pipsqueak said.”
“Well…if you two keep arguing the way you do, we will keep leaving you until you sort out your differences. So I would apologize to each other.”
“But she started it!”
“Did not!”
“Did too!”
“Did not!”
Kip rolled his filmy eyes. “To the water hole?”
…”To the water hole.”
