For nearly a month now Dendro had been enjoying his new secluded pond home. In that time there had only been one or two Soquili who had stumbled upon his little hideaway and he had promptly shown them that this was his territory and that they would not take it away from him. Certainly it was not a way to make friends, but honestly Dendro didn't care so much about friends. He had his freedom, a place of his own and no annoying healer trying to make him feel better. What more could he want? Nothing really. This was paradise and he would not change it for the world. Here he had everything he needed, food, shade, water to drink and swim in and enough of grass in the clearing to run around in for extra exercise when he needed.

Slipping out of the water Dendro stood in the cool afternoon air. Fall was in full swing and before long winter would set it's icy grip upon the land. Winter would be hard on him if the pond froze, so he would need to work hard to keep it clear of ice as much as possible. This was the one time having others around would be handy, they would help keep the ice at bay by constantly moving in and out of the water. But he would do it himself and prove to other, even if no one was around, that he could live on his own and he could manage with half of his hearing.

Fall was nice. The air was cooler and he no longer had to constantly seek out shade and water to avoid the extreme heat of the day. Now this was when he could be lazy and truly get away with it. Of course, soon winter would be upon the land and that was Prism's least favorite season of the year. In winter he had to constantly move to avoid freezing, and it was a lot of work to find food as well. Oh if only he could hibernate like the bears did. He had tried it once or twice, however Soquili were not meant to sleep all winter and so it only took a day or two before he was out looking for food. Still, having a nice cave to return to certainly helped, it allowed him to be a bit lazy without risking freezing to death. The other option was to move closer to the two-leggers, using their fires to stay warm. But the two-leggers weren't always inviting and he preferred to stay away from them lest they get the idea of riding him or making him work.

Nope it was best to stay solo, his only companion being his wolf friend Spectrum. At the moment Spectrum was visiting with another wolf who lived around here so Prism was on his own. Slowly plodding along a path the large stallion looked up at the bright orange and yellow leaves that covered most of the trees. This area looked extremely familiar to him, and after a few moments he figured it out, this was where he had ran into that Nixie stallion back in the summer. Suddenly curious to see if he was still around Prism turned and walked into the trees searching for that pond he had last seen him at.

Lowering his head Dendro began to munch on some grass, already it was starting to dry up and was certainly less flavorful than before. He could live with flavorless grass, as long as he could access it flavor didn't matter so much. Besides, the aquatic plants that made up a portion of his diet maintained their flavor throughout the year, so if he was really desperate to truly taste some food he could go for that. A gust of wind blew through the clearing and for a moment Dendro cursed his lack of hearing. With the dry leaves rustling in the wind it was nearly impossible to hear anything else. In fact it wasn't until the last second that he hear the approach of another.

"This land is taken!" He announced to the intruder before he was able to see them. Though to his surprised as the other stepped from the trees it was a stallion he had met before. In fact it was the only Soquili since moving her that he had actually gotten along with. "Prism." He nodded his head in greeting. "I thought you were someone trying to come and steal my pond away." The smaller stallion gave a slight shrug of his shoulders. "Didn't think I'd see you around again."

Prism let out a bit of a chuckle at the voice. "I know that, I ain't no fool." He called out as he stepped out from the trees and into the small clearing setting his eyes on the smaller stallion again. It was good to see Dendro was still the same grumpy and territorial stallion as before. It's why he had come back here to check on him, to see just how the stubborn fellow had gotten along since parting ways a month or so ago. Bringing his hooves to a stop Prism glances about. Things looked the same here as before, perhaps a bit less green thanks to the onset of fall but the same none the less.

Slowing raising his shoulders in his own shrug Prism turned his gaze to Dendro. "Didn't get very far, so thought I might stop by. Last I remember you said I could come back and visit if I wanted to." In the small chance that offer no longer stood then Prism would take his leave, even if it did mean expending more energy than he wished to use today. "So, how's life treated you so far?" He asked, and while he was partially curious about the answer a part of him also didn't care. After all, talking took energy, and getting an answer from Dendro would likely continue this conversation for a while.

Dendro snorted a bit. He wasn't entirely convinced Prism wasn't a fool, but he kept that to himself. His eyes swept over the larger stallion for a moment. He hadn't changed one bit since the last time he had seen him. "I see you're laziness hadn't managed to get you killed yet." He said with a bit of a grin. Honestly it was surprising that Prism hadn't been picked off by some predator by now, what hunter wouldn't take advantage of easy prey like that. Obviously Prism had luck on his side, or else the stallion might not be standing before him today.

"I did say that didn't I?" Well he didn't mind Prism stopping by. Much as he liked his life of living alone it would be nice to talk to someone every now and then. And knowing that Prism was no threat at all made it all the better. He couldn't help but laugh at bit. "I have no doubt you didn't get very far." It was a miracle Prism even managed to get out of sight from the area. "Been alright. Busy keeping other at bay. This is prime land right now, nice and sheltered for the upcoming winter months."

A smile slowly crossed his lips. "Ain't got enough meat on me for them to bother coming after me." Sure he may be an easy target, but there were plenty of plumper Soquili around and while they may fight back or try to run from a predator in the end they would make a better meal than he would. Plus he was smart, he knew what areas to avoid and could see the signs that spoke of recent predator activity. If he kept alert, even while sleeping out in the open, he stood a very good chance of surviving. And it helped that he had Spectrum around most of the time, the wolf may be lazy like he was but Prism knew that when push came to shove his friend would protect him at any cost.

Taking a deep breath Prism nodded his head. "I can see why. Sure is a nice spot you got here." He could certainly see why others would want to spend the winter here. And if he were honest with himself then he would admit that he was a bit jealous that Dendro had laid claim on this spot, for if he hadn't then Prism likely would have. Not like he would have likely be able to hold it against the more determined types but having a place like this even for a short time would have certainly been nice.

Dendro cracked a smile. "Even without much meat you'd still be an easy meal." One of these days Prism's laziness would end up getting him in major trouble, but honestly Dendro wasn't going to nitpick. In fact nitpicking is what had prompted him to leave his herd and strike out on his own. He knew how annoying it was to have someone constantly tell him things, even if they were trying to help him, and so he just gave a shrug and was willing to let Prism continue to be lazy since it was clear the stallion preferred life that way.

"Nice spot that I intend to keep." He gave his head a solid nod. Most Soquili were bigger and stronger than he was, but Dendro had speed and sheer determination on his side. Plus his overly stubborn ways would serve him well too. Besides with everything he could possibly need for survival right here in the clearing he would never have to leave and risk someone coming along while he was gone. "So you staying for a while?" Dendro asked casually, not like Prism would get very far even if he wasn't planning to stay. He wouldn't mind if the stallion stuck around for a bit, he was the only one Dendro could call a friend and though he would never admit it the bachelor life had become a bit boring and lonely. Though not having Oke constantly yammering in his good ear was something he would never complain about no matter how much he craved another to talk to some days.

"I suppose you're right." Prism said with a yawn. It had been a long day of walking, well not really but the stallion found any use of energy to be downright exhausting. Very soon it would be nap time, something he was very much looking forward to, but for now he managed to keep his eyes open to continue talking with Dendro. "You know, you've got it pretty good here. Not a lot of places around here this nice." There were plenty of small clearings that offered shelter and some food sources, however very few lacked drinking water and that made Dendro's little place here prime territory.

"Think I'll stay for a bit." He gave his head a bit of a bob, glancing around the clearing again. "To nice to leave already." With this he let out a bit of a chuckle. "Besides, told Spectrum I would be here and I don't think he would want to track me down if I left." The wolf would, he was certain of that, but he would be none too happy about it. "So...what you been doing since last time we met?" He wondered if the smaller stallion had done much, hard to tell if he had or not.

"Damn right I'm right." He stated with a chuckle. He had seen in his years as a scout weaker members of the herd picked off by predators, mainly two-leggers, simply because they could not run as fast as the others. Certainly the same would apply to lazy Soquili, they might be able to run fast, but they would be at a disadvantage trying to take off from a laying position. Thsi was why he did his best when he was a scout to keep an eye out for any dangers and give enough warning to allow those slower members a better chance of escape. He had saved many lives back in the day, but now those were mostly just memories, for he would never serve his herd again. Not because he didn't want to, but because they wouldn't let him due to his lack of hearing in his one ear.

With a shake of his head Dendro pushed back those thoughts. "I guess that's a good reason to stay for a bit." Dendro said with a bit of a nod, though he was glad to see his friend would stick around for a little while. They could catch up even if he was certain Prism hadn't done much in the time since their last meeting. "Oh I've been making sure things are ready for winter mostly." There wasn't a lot to do in preparation, just making sure any clutter was removed to prevent large snow drifts from forming. He also made sure to save the aquatic plants in the pond for the winter months as digger for grass was his least favorite thing to do in the cold. "What about yourself?"

Prism couldn't help but chuckle. He found Dendro's comments amusing. Hell he found the stallion amusing. Something about such a small stallion having such attitude was funny to the larger stallion. Usually, from his experience at least, Usdia were a pretty friendly bunch. But Dendro was a whole different experience. Oh he was friendly, at least to Prism he was, but that attitude and snarky comments made everything more entertaining about their conversations. It's probably what drew Prism back here, just to get a good chuckle again. "Yup, pretty good reason to stay. Well that and I really like this place." Paradise, that's what it was. A little chunk of paradise.

He gave his head a nod at the mention of winter prep. See that's why Prism didn't lay claim to any one spot. There was always work to do. Winter prep, Spring cleaning, Fall meant your home filling up with leaves. Summer was really the only time little work would be needed. Of course that was a good thing as summer was fill with heat and doing anything in the heat was unpleasant. "Me? Haven't done much." Making his way over to a shady spot opposite the pond Prism laid down and let out a yawn. "Guess don't have much to do anyways."

There was no doubt in his mind Prism liked thsi spot. Pretty much every Soquili that had stumbled upon this place since he claimed it for himself had liked it, and tried hard to get him to leave. But Dendro wouldn't budge, though there was one extremely large Soquili who had nearly forced him out, it was only through luck he had managed to keep his claim on the lands. He had expected that stallion to come back and try again, but he hadn't, and so Dendro got to stay where he was, happy with his spot in the world. Watching Prism walk over to the shade and lay down Dendro's lips curled up in a smile. Same old Prism.

"Been a long day huh?" He laughed a bit. "Might as well get some rest in, not sure if you will find a more relaxing place than here for a while." Besides who knew when the stallions familiar would come along and he doubted he could keep Prism awake for much longer even through conversation. He could do with a bit of a soak and a rest himself. Working hard tended to dry out his skin almost as much as the summer heat often did. Slipping into the pond he lay on the edge, half his body in the water, half on land. "I hope you don't snore." He commented while laying his head down on the cool moist dirt.

The cool ground made it that much harder to keep his eyes open. While Prism hated the cold of winter, much like how he hated the heat of summer, the cool of fall was a welcome thing. It was easier to sleep with a bit of a chill in the air. The grass may not be as soft as it was in the spring but it still made a decent place to have a nap. "Yup. Long day." Not quite, but every day seemed long to Prism. Lowering his head for it rested upon his legs Prism watched as Dendro took his place at the edge of the pond. Lucky b*****d, he thought, getting a place like this. While he was overly jealous, he would never ever try to steal this place from Dendro. It wasn't in him to try. And he was certain that even if he did the smaller stallion would beat him hands down.

Prism snorted. "Don't know. Too busy sleeping to know if I snore." He;d never heard Spectrum say anything about snoring, so he could only assume that he didn't. Or perhaps they both snored so neither of them really noticed. Either way he supposed he would know for certain when he woke up and if Dendro said anything about it. "Tell me if I do." He said, now a bit curious to find out if he did snore or not. Snoring may be something he would need to get rid of, as it would be a sure sign to predators that someone was sleeping. With a yawn Prism closed his eyes and let the peace of this place slip him into the realm of sleep.
