"Okay, look, I'll scan ahead and see if we're getting closer. Does that sound like a plan?" But Ruia had clearly already decided that it was, because a moment later and the peach coloured male had sauntered ahead with his boundless energy and enthusiasm. It was hardly surprising though. He'd been wanting to go on an adventure since he'd heard about the rogue lands as a child and he was finally getting to live his dreams.

Uddhava who was rather unadventurous in comparison gave a small smile at the other and rolled his eyes, casting a sidelong glance towards Tizona. He'd settled down a lot in the short time they had been travelling together and already felt less nervous around her - though it was hard to be nervous around someone so friendly.

"He's...like that all the time." He gave as a way of explanation. "I'm not sure how he managed to keep himself leaving before he bumped into me at the borders."

He blinked, faltering in step for a brief moment. Was it too soon for her to be feeling tired or homesick? Would it be insensitive of him to ask her how she was doing? The ex-Firekin stumbled a bit over his words before deciding it really couldn't hurt to enquire how she was. "Um...how are you holding up? We can stop and rest soon if Ruia's getting a bit ahead of himself."

Everything was a race for the other young male, apparently.

It was strange, being away from the Pridelands but while it was foreign to her the brown lioness found that it was oddly peaceful. There had rarely been a day that she had not bumped into another lion, often one she didn't know, back home due to the ever growing numbers. Unlike the time when she was on her own, Tizona never felt lonely in the company of the two males.

She was grinning as he spoke to her giggling at the abundant energy Ruia always seemed to have. What Udd hadn't realized yet was that Tizona was more like his best friend than he realized. "It's okay," she replied shaking her head happily. "Sometimes you just gotta meet the right person to take off with," she laughed thinking of how the situation was similar to her own.

"I'm doing great!" Tizona replied chipper before her grin faltered. "Oh no! Does it seem like I'm not okay? I don't want to worry you," she stuttered trying not to seem too flustered. "I'm okay, I mean it's more than I'm used to but I'm holding up just fine, you don't need to worry about me."

"I guess so." Uddhava contemplated. "I think he probably thought I could do with the company and...well, he was right, I guess. I don't think I'm as cut out for this rogue thing as he is."

And then he floundered, hoping that he hadn't upset her with his observations. "Oh, oh, yes, you seem fine. I was just, uh, checking. That's all." He gave her a nervous sort of smile. "Well, it's funny the way things work out. I meet Ruia and encourage him to go on an adventure. He meets you and does the same. Maybe you'll meet someone and encourage them to do the same."

He pondered that a moment. "I'm glad you're okay, though. Homesickness is not a good feeling."

And up ahead. "Still no sign!!! I'll go a bit further!!!"

Uddhava gave an exasperated smile. To be shouting loud like that, the other male was probably quite a ways off anyway. "Well, I think every rogue for a mile around probably knows we're here now."

"It's always nice to have some sort of company," she commented thoughtfully, thinking of the days where she had been not so...lonely. "Especially when the company is welcomed," she added quietly thinking of her large and loving family. She adored them but more often than not, they were quite difficult to handle. Tizona had never been very good at being the grown-up one, she was still so innocent and childlike. It had seemed like not even bearing a cub had changed that fact. Nor had the day that Kol had left the den and never returned.

Yes there was a childlike innocence and presence instilled within the brown lioness but it was the comforting kind. After all there was advice and wisdom than only children were able to provide because they say thing for what they were and not just what they wanted to believe.

"Who knows," she replied happily thinking of the lions she had met in her lifetime. "I believe that everyone deserves an adventure of some sorts at least once. I mean," she found herself laughing lightly, "where's the fun of life if you don't chose to live a little? Why there's nothing more boring than doing the same thing everyday," she paused looking up at Udd thoughtfully. "There's adventure everywhere you look, you just need to know how to find it."

When Ruia called to them, Tizona's head snapped up and over to his direction. A playful smile danced on her lips as she shook her head. "He's just excited, I mean can you blame him? I heard such wonderful things about the ocean. I can't wait to see and swim in it." She declared loudly.

Uddhava nodded. "It is. I'm grateful for meeting Ruia and, in turn, for meeting with you. Travelling in unknown lands is a lot less scary when one is not by himself." He gave a small, embarrassed cough. He had been scared, after all, and the relief at knowing he wasn't going to be alone for a while had been...a weight off of his mind.

He listened to the sound of her voice, finding a strange calm in listening to it. Laughing quietly, he agreed. "Yes. I think you are right. Even one adventure can change a life forever. Funny, really, my life has been one adventure to the next...in a strange sort of way. Even more odd because all I wanted was to be safe at home and not even think about the outside world." He cast her a short look. "But...I'm glad I was forced into it. I think it's helped me grow...even just a little." He'd probably still be the timid, almost silent lion he had once been if he had not been forced to leave.

"Me either." He agreed. "Before I came out into rogue lands, water was a scarce and precious thing. To think that there could be so much water in one place...I...well I really can't imagine it. It's as simple as that." He grinned. "I'm not sure about the swimming thing, though." He wrinkled his snout. "That sounds very...wet."

He inhaled deeply and noted that the air began to smell...different somehow.

Somewhere up ahead Ruia gave a roar and the golden lion paused to throw his new friend a look. "You think he found it?" And he quickened his pace to try and catch up.

"I can imagine," Tizona replied thoughtfully thinking of the last rogue male she had ever connected with. He had always seemed so lost, lonely and now that she was out of her homelands she could see why. "The world is a big, scary place when you're alone," she sighed. Of course Tizona had never really felt alone, she had always some sort of company whether it was something she wanted it or not.

She frowned when he mentioned his 'adventure' had initially been forced. "Does it make you sad?" She asked ears flattening slightly against her skull. She couldn't imagine being forced from the home she had grown up in. It would probably have been very terrifying for her. She shivered at the thought of being evicted from the pridelands. "Did you have to grow up before you were ready?" She asked tilting her head thoughtfully. She herself hadn't truly grown up despite likely being older that the males she was traveling with.

She was a child at heart and it showed in how easily she accepted the offer of strangers to go out and travel. It showed in the way her smiles were so carefree and how she chose to spend her time playing rather than focusing on her responsibilities. It also showed in the way her son, Ini, was more responsible, level-headed and mature than she was because like Udd he had to grow up before he was ready.

It was a shame.

"It sounds beautiful too," Tizona replied thinking fondly of the ocean and what it might have to offer. "I mean water is one of the most precious things right? To think there's so much of it in one place, it's mind blowing really." She sounded so eager and excited to find it.

Uddhava nodded. He felt, sometimes, like he had spent most of his life afraid. His earliest memories were of great, great sadness and fear. "It made me very sad." He admitted easily. Saying things to Tizona was easy because he felt as if she wouldn't judge him for it. "There will always be sadness, I think. But...I didn't belong there, either. Sad as it was, I think it was for the best. I would have been unhappy there too, in the end, even with my family close by."

He wondered how his big brother, Azarax, was doing. Wondered if he still thought of him from time to time. Perhaps one day he could visit them again. Maybe...

"I guess I did. But..." He swallowed hard. "That was no one's fault. It's complicated but...I wasn't raised by my parents, so I think that's the main reason I had to grow up. Otherwise I was given good training for leaving. They taught me to hunt and fend for myself so that I would be able to survive. I think...I didn't feel rushed into growing up. It just...sort of happened." And despite his memories he gave her a wide smile. It didn't feel so bad to talk about. "But one day I will find a home and maybe things can change." He just needed to find somewhere suitable.

"It is. Very, very precious." And with a smile he crested the hill and loped down after Ruia with the salty air blowing into his face. Ahead of them a line of trees partially obscured their view and, beneath them was the peach form of the other male rogue.

"Ru!" Uddhava called. "You found it?"

The pale lion turned back and nodded. "I did! You two, stop talking and come and see!"

Uddhava, panting a little now, gave a nod and, casting an eye to Tiz, dashed over to where Ruia stood.

To where the sea waited.

"I can't imagine having to go through what you have," the brown lioness sighed. Unlike Udd, her life had been an easy one. She had always had the freedom to do what she wanted, even if it was something silly. Like her obsession with "flying" that had started when she was nothing more than a cub and had followed her well into adulthood. It was a love that she had even passed on to her son, though their methods of "flight" were entirely different.

She also had the ability to come and go as she pleased in the pridelands. She had been overjoyed to partake in the boys' adventure but she knew, deep down, that she would always return home. It was a part of her and always would be, she knew that.

"I know they will," she seemed to promise, smiling brightly up at him when Ru came into view. She gasped in delight when he proclaimed that he had discovered the ocean. "Really?" She squeaked, bounding up and down slightly. Excitement practically flowed off of the lioness as she scrambled forward, her tail flicking back and forth as a dog's might.

And she gasped again.

Tizona's gasp was the perfect response for what lay out before them. Uddhava never thought he would see such a sight as that. It was like a moving, glittering desert, stretching out as far as the eye could see. Beautiful and intense. It filled the air with a soothing, lulling sound and gave filled it with an odd scent that the water further inland didn't seem to have.

Ruia smiled at them both. "Wonderful, isn't it?" He shook his pale mane and started to move down towards it, pausing this time to wait for his companions. "Want to go and get a closer look? Do you think it tastes any good?"

"Smells different." Uddhava pointed out, turning querying eyes to Tizona. "Shall we go and see it closer? You don't think it's...dangerous? The way it moves about all like that?"

Ruia was starting towards the sea already, moving slowly so as not to get too far ahead. If it was dangerous, he was clearly unafraid.

"I'll go if you go." Uddhava added to the pridelander.

"I heard it tastes funny," she mumbled, her voice soft as though she was speaking more to herself than either of the two males. "It's sooooo pretty!" She exclaimed, her face lighting with joy as she bounced on the balls of her feet. "I dunno," she answered frowning slightly. Her tail flicked behind her thoughtfully as she stepped forward. "It doesn't look harmful," she deduced inching forward again.

She started to laugh when Uddhava had reservations about moving forward, exploring the beautiful sight they had come to find. Her amber eyes watched as Ruia advanced forward, eager to explore this new thing. "Of course I'm gonna go!" She told him shaking her head as she walked back over to him.

She bumped her shoulder against his then nodded in the direction of the sea. "I'll race you?" She offered, an excited twinkle in her eye before she bounced backward. She turned, swatting her tail at him, before taking off towards the water.

Well in that case, he couldn't exactly stay here by himself, could he?

He gave her a slightly uncertain smile and then took her up on her challenge, leaping into a run and giving chase down towards the sea. The terrain was not too awkward, mostly free of rocks and dips that might have sent him tumbling and, with his lungs burning and the sea air in his face, he felt somewhat revitalised.

Tizona would still end up beating him to the sea, though.

And, of course, Ruia was already there, pacing by the froth and beaming with a smile of victory. "Look at it, Tiz! We actually made it! Can you believe it?" He gave a small hop of joy and then eyed them with a challenge of his own. "Okay. So who's brave enough to be the first in?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:43 pm

The whole time the brown lioness was running, she was laughing happily. It had been a long time since she had raced against another lion and the feeling that ran through her was simply...exhilarating. Running across the sand was trickier than she had imagined, she hadn't even thought of the differences in terrain and as such, she found herself slipping and sliding across the sand as she attempted to come to a halt.

She found herself tumbling forward, still laughing happily, and finally stopping on her butt. "I know! It's so exciting!" She exclaimed happily practically jumping back onto her paws. "It's prettier than I ever imagined," she admitted, sighing happily. At that moment she knew that she would never regret traveling out of the pridelands.

At Ruia's challenge she glanced at Udd before shrugging. "I will! What's the harm in a little water?" She asked shaking her head before confidently strutting forward.

But where she was confident, Uddhava was not. The yellow lion slowed his pace a moment to watch the others roam closer, dithering nervously. The sand felt good beneath his paws, though, and whilst it lacked the deep burning of the desert, its soft instability was an incredible comfort.

He could almost close his eyes and imagine himself at home. His brother looking across at him with pride in his eyes. His friends - all red and black - laughing: the sound carried by the wind.

And then there was a loud splashing and his eyes flared open again. Ahead of him the shapes of Tizona and Ruia were already amongst the waves. Ruia's peal of laughter suggested that the ocean was not as scary as the golden lion might have thought. Perhaps, he thought, it would be okay to take a short dip - just to check it was okay.

"Come on Udd, don't be a scaredy-cat!"

"O-okay! I'm coming." And tentatively he moved out to join his friends. It was time to stop being timid. It was time to start enjoying life.
