Suishii stood (well, more like slouched in a bored manner) behind the long table draped in a heavy blue cloth that was the main focal point of the very sparsely furnished Grand Ballroom, a large and elegant room featuring a lot of polished marble and granite and very tall, arched windows that let in the bright sunlight. In the center of the room was a ring of blue carpeting, laid down for the occasion, with a raised platform in the middle. Besides these, there was little else there.
Suishii browsed through the few papers attached to her clipboard. Apparently she was the supervisor of the show or something, which could shed a little doubt on the organizational integrity of the whole affair if one knew her too well. Regardless, it looked very much like some sort of pet show was to be held there, as there were ribbons set out in a line on the table, along with a shiny gold medal and a mysterious box which could be assumed to hold the prize. She also had a stack of numbers, like those one would affix to the back of marathon runners. What she planned to do with these couldn't be surmised.
Suishii looked at her watch. It was about time for the participants to show up...

Tiarana staggered in, dragging Kalani behind her, tired from a long night of brushing several months' worth of tangles out of Kalani's fur. "Honestly, Kalani," she muttered to the unwieldy Lura, "I really wish you'd live in a house like any normal show pet." Kalani grunted and dug his heels in further. "Show pet, you hear me?!" Tia growled. "Show pet. Show pet. Besides, there's a nice prize in it for you." The Lura's only response was to plunk his butt down obstinately and refuse to be moved.
"Why do I always get the stubborn ones?" Tia muttered to herself and hurried over to Suishii, sans Kalani. "Dude, it's Suishii. Hey there!"

Suishii shouted something to the effect of "OMG HAY", abandoning her clipboard and rushing over.
"What is up my dawg! My ace-in-the-hole! My good friend Tia!" she says, grinning widely and slapping Tia on the back a few times for effect. She glanced over at Kalani. "I bet Kalani's... uh, all excited! Cool! Come this way!"
Suishii led them over to the table and handed Tia the top two numbers off the stack after consulting her clipboard. "Alriiiight, these are yours... uh, just hold onto them for now I guess," she said distractedly. "Are you ready for AWESOME SHOW? I bet you are! Dude, it'll be awesome!" she shouted, holding her arms up for a visual measure of just how awesome it may be.

Gnat walked into the decorative ballroom looking around for someone who might know what exactly was going on, but was highly discouraged by the two people see saw. They seemed to be squeeling and waving their arms around randomly. Gnat sighed and glanced down a Pippin, who was staying close to his owner's heel like a good pet, or maybe because it was one of his first times out of the house and he was wide-eyed scared beyond all reason. It was also one of the first times he'd seen another of his species, and it was highly unsettling to him, making him shift from foot to foot and pull closer to Gnat's side, nuzzling her leg slightly for comfort. Gnat couldn't help but smile down at him, and stroke his ear softly, "It's okay sweetie, I'm sure everyone here is nice..." She let her voice trail off towards the ends as her eyes looked over the room one more time to make sure the two crazy girls were the only ones in there. With a heavy sigh she started to walk over to the pair, Pippin not noticing at first but a momment after the warmth left his cheek and with a help he scurried up next to his owner and nuzzled her again as the approached the table. "Hi, um, do you guys know how this is working...? I mean, this is the pet show, right?" Gnat said slightly unsure of herself, but a smile on her face anyway.

Koshiba entered the ballroom, Avery clinging to her back with his head resting on her shoulder. The calm 'lura's eyes darted around the room, taking in the excited friends, the more apprehensive looking girl, and the other lura. He let out a chirruping sound in greeting, getting off Koshiba's back and gliding along with her instead.
"Hey," said Koshiba when they reached Tia and Suishii. "Am I in the right place to sign up?" Avery landed softly to her right, antennae twitching slightly as he looked over the two girls and the lura with them.

Tiarana grinned at Suishii. "Oh, you bet he is. He's so excited he can barely walk!" Kalani growled and stalked over to Pippin, sniffing him curiously. "So, uh, I got these tickets now! Man am I cool," Tia said, waving them around and almost knocking into Gnat.
"Why, hello there, my fellow competitor of show Petalura! Pretty much just sign up over here and Suishii will give you tickets. Isn't it awesome? No effort on your part!" Kalani snarled and started nipping at Pippin's tail. "Damnit, Kalani, you are not a wild, dominant, and territorial male! You're a show pet. Now stop it! Really," Tia said, turning back to Gnat when she was satisfied Kalani was playing nice, "I wish that Lura would just live with domestication."
She then turned to Koshiba. "Yep, right here, just ask Suishii and she'll give you your tickets! And Kalani, dear, don't even think of it." Kalani snorted and moved out of his crouch-ready-to-spring.

Chaos ran into the room, sliding to a stop on the marble floor in the middle of the room. She turned around and scolded the blue Petalura, who came up behind her with a confident and bouncy gait. "If you hadn't insisted on being groomed for so long, we would've been on time!" Chaos looked down at her pet with an almost comical frown.
Bhree, however, was to immersed in showing off. She held her head high, and swished her crested tail. A little blue fairy sat between her wing joints and her neck, looking around curiously.
"C'mon." Chaos rolled her eyes and made her way over to the group of lura and their owners, Bhree over-exagerating every stride as she followed. "Uh... is this where we sign up?" she asked, glancing nervously at everyone.

Suishii grinned rather nervously at the gathered company (rather apprehensively at Kalani) and waved them over. "Eh heh! Hooookay you guys! Tia, please keep Kalani from eating anyone okay thanks! Everyone else, this way please!"
She walked over to the table, recovered her clipboard, and looked at the second page. "Okay! Gnat and Pippin! You get, uh, these four numbers. Don't lose them!" Suishii pulled the next four papers out of the number stack and handed them to Gnatty. "Very nice! You'll do well! Good luck!"
She peeked at her clipboard again. "Koshiba and Avery! Lookin' good, lookin' good! I believe you do get these numbers here..." she said, handing Koshi the next five numbers. "Awesome, awesome, looks good, good luck to you," she said, patting Avery on the head in a distracted manner.
"Next... is... Chaos and Bhree! How cute is that! Very nice, yes!" Suishii checked the list. "Alright, alright, lesse. You get all of these," she grinned, handing Chaos a handful of the next four numbers. "Hang onto those okay! Wonderful! Progressing very nicely, yes, see you and Bhree in the show! Okay!" Suishii looked nervous, pleased, and distracted at the same time, grinning rather vaguely.

Koshiba took the numbers and moved slightly out of the way, so as to facilitate the numbers-handing-out-process. Avery followed her lead, moving over to investigate Kalani and Pippin. Koshiba drifted over to Tia, who seemed quite enthusiastic about the show.
"So, Kalani seems...um, aggressive almost. Almost like a wild lura," she said with a grin at the lura's antics.

To put it bluntly, Pippin was petrafied. Having on Lura a few paces away scared him enough, but when he started approaching Pippin, and in his eyes, started attacking him, the Lura couldn't help but let out a rather loud yip and attempt to hide between Gnat's legs.
While this was going on, entirely unnoticed by Gnat for the most part, she took her numbers and then almost fell over as Pippin shot between her legs. "PIPPIN! They're not going to bite!!" He just whimpered in responce as Gnat took a step away from him, believing the exact opposite. Pippin smiled weakly at the other Lura who had gathered around the general area.

Kalani snorted, amused by Pippin's reaction. Now here was a nice, subservient male... just the way he liked it. He filed the fact away for future reference, then turned to butt at Tia's heels and demand food.
"Oh, you! No food for you until you win the competition!" Tia scowled at him and nudged him away with her foot, then turned back to Koshiba. "Yup, he sure is a wild and crazy 'Lura. Despite the fact I bottle-fed him until he started biting my hands... trained him every day in the fine art of showmanship, though I don't think he was quite listening... and made sure he had plenty to do the rest of the time... he grew up and went feral! Ungrateful little monster!" Tia sobbed, rather overdramatically, and sunk to the ground.
Kalani, however, was not listening, being much more occupied by the appearance of a female on the scene. He had suddenly, apparently, taken all of Tia's lessons in showmanship to heart, and he sauntered over to Bhree with a stride to rival the finest showhorse, despite the fact he had only two legs and was overbalanced by his wings. "Hey there, love," he purred, wrapping a wing around her. "What say you and I ditch this banal little party and go somewhere a little more exciting?"

Malachi flew into the middle of the room, and perched on one of the tables. Turning around he called back "Kitty! hurry! we're going to be late!!" he looked around and saw the other competitors. 'oh good ! it hasnt started without us yet!' and quickly he bagan to preen.
Kitty walked into the room with a slightly disgruntled look on her face. "It was your fault you know! I never should have given you a three-way mirror" She sighs as she watches him preen. "You really are a vain peacock,you know that?" With another sigh and a smile she walks over, taking a brush out of her bag as she goes.
"oh, stop preening and let me give you a brushdown if your that worried." Malachi just gave out a chirp of contentment. Soon enough they were finished, and Malachi admired his shiny coat.
While Malachi decided to show off, Kitty went over Suishii.
"Um.. Is this where we check in?"

Bhree wiggled out of Kalani's grasp and pinned his wing to the floor with both of hers. "Maybe after I win this little competition," she said, a flicker of a mischevious smile crossing her lips as amusement danced in her eyes. She let the male free, and with a flick of her tail turned her back to him.
Chaos, as Bhree watched, managed to drop every single one of her tickets on the floor, and now was mumbling and picking them up again, dropping one everytime she reached down. The little fairy on her back stretched his wings and zipped across the floor, grabbing all the tickets.
"Hey, those aren't yours!" Chaos yelled as she ran across the room after the fairy.

As Kitty was busy with Suishii, Malachi was watching the events unfold. He laughed as the fairy zipped off with the tickets, but decided to help. Besides, fairy catching would be fun!
He leapt off the table and did a little twirl in the air. "Here I come fairy!" He called out and zoomed off in persuit.

Bhree gave a 'lura type laugh and watched in excitement. Chaos continued to chase the fairy, who was flying in little circles. Seeing Malachi approching, Chaos ducked and slipped into one of the blue draped table, dumping the sheet, the table, and everything on it on herself.
The fairy zipped close the Malachi, and away before the Petalura could catch him. The small agile familiar flipped and cartwheeled through the air, knowing the bigger and slower 'lura wouldn't be able to keep up.
Meanwhile, Chaos attempted to untangle herself and stood up, but ended up falling down again as the blue cloth was tied around her ankles. "Somebody stop them!" she yelled, struggling.
