This is a private RP for Nisshou H’s Jia Li and Zamyr. Please do not post.
((For my purposes, this predates Ambien but comes sometime after parting with Cris. So, it’s on Zamyr’s way out of the desert Jia Li is not one of Zamyr’s companions. Just a short, chance meeting. Good gods I have some convoluted timelines.))

Jia Li stood upon the threshold of the desert. Her aqua colored eyes were fixated on the ground below her feet where sand mingled with the grasses that she had traveled upon to get this far. To her back stood her homeland; where her parents and siblings lived their lives with lovers, children, and friends. Before her stood a great mystery, not unlike her life, the desert. It only seemed only appropriate to be heading into the vast and strange world in search of some fabled oasis spring. A wish granting spring. She’d heard rumors of it in her mid-afternoon strolls through the forest. If a star could grant wishes as so many claimed, why not a spring?

Slowly she pawed at the sand uncovering a few blades of grass. There was something beautiful about this moment to the ornamented mare. It was something to savor.

She took a few moments for herself to lift her head and fully absorb the majestic scenery of the mountains on either side, the blue of the sky above her and the yellow and green of the ground below her. This place had a natural balance to it. She would have to return to her home along this path when the time came. A graceful smile spread across her face as she closed her eyes, took a deep breath and turned her face to the sun.

She was in no rush. There was no one waiting for her and no one nagging her to move on. She was free to enjoy the moment until she was fully satisfied.

The desert oases, the bad lands, horse spine ridge, dalonegei canyon, Zamyr had seen them all. It had taken time, oh yes, months of time, but it had all been worth it. Though all at once his world had grown and shrunk. The desert had seemed so massive when he had first emerged from the spinning sands. Once he had seen it, it all felt began to feel rather enclosed again. Suffocating. It was for that reason that he had decided to move on. And just as he had when he first departed Zamyr headed out of the desert by himself leaving his desert companion behind.

It had taken him several days to reach the pass. Primarily he walked occasionally gliding from dune top to dune top. The days were growing shorter and cooler making passage easier. He could walk most of the day without overheating and he had even adopted a schedule of sleeping at night. It was a strange sort of life, being constantly on the move, but he had found a love for it.

Though, at times, it did present him with some oddities.

It was late in the afternoon when he had decided to take a rest. Zamyr had hopped up into the rocks that lined the path and picked out a nice spot that shielded him from sight and sun. From there he had watched the mare approach. He had grown more used to the fact that none of the creatures out here were really like him or his people. Still, it never managed to catch his attention and make him grin at how very strange they were.

This one in particular was a bit odd in her mannerisms, in her looks as well but mostly in her mannerisms. After a few minutes of close observation he drew attention to himself by speaking, “What’s that you’re doing?”

A jolt shot through Jia Li like a bolt of lightning at the sound of someone's voice. Her body tensed and she whirled around wide eyed trying to locate it's owner. It was harder than it sounded, everything seemed to echo here. She had been certain that she had been alone. She had looked. There hadn't been a soul around. "I was just...enjoying the scenery..." She replied cautiously as she moved forward. Were they hidden by the rocks up ahead or had they made themselves invisible by some means? Could they be a spirit of some kind?

"And you...what is it that you are doing?" She crept around the rocks the she suspected the voice to be hiding behind to find nothing there. She frowned. That was troubling. She moved to check the other rock and still found nothing. Was it truly a spirit speaking to her or was she just dealing with a creature with supreme hiding skills.

Zamyr watched with great amusement as the mare walked straight past his hiding place. He hadn't meant to frighten her but she seemed to recover from the shock quick enough. She was a strong-minded mare, that much was certain. Only a few moments after having the daylights scared out of her she was off searching for the person who scared her and talking like nothing had happened. She was amazing!

"Oh, I'm just watching you look for me." He answered finally as she checked the second bolder with no success. Deciding it was high time to put her mind at ease he got to his feet, his talons clicking lightly against the stone surface. "I'm up here, by the way. Behind you." He watched as she turned about with a cheerful look on his face. When she was finally facing him he lifted a foreleg and opened and closed his claws in greeting. "Hello." He said casually.

Watching her? She didn't much like the sound of that and she liked the thought of him being behind her somewhere even less. She whirled about to get a good look at whatever it was she was dealing with but found herself at a loss of words upon actually seeing him. He was neither invisible nor a spirit. He had simply picked out one hell of a hiding spot. He was a...well she wasn't actually sure precisely what he was. He was strange. A sandy creature with brown wings and dark claws in the place of hooves and if she was not mistaken he had feathers in place of a tail.

Maybe he was a spirit after all. Whatever the case he was at least friendly.

"Hello..." She replied slowly and quietly before bowing her head to return the greeting. It wasn't like her to feel so rattled by an unusual appearance but his was truly a sight to behold. In all her days she had never seen anything quite like him. "My name is Jia Li...may I ask who you are?"

Zamyr couldn't tell what had startled the mare more. His voice breaking her peace, his announcing that he was behind her or his appearance. As she looked him over with disbelieving eyes he set his foot back on the ground and debated about leaving the high ground to get better acquainted. Would leaping down scare the golden mare more? Most likely. Truthfully he didn't much want to continue looking down at her. It was much more pleasant to get to know people up close.

When she finally spoke he had made up his mind. "Jia Li!" He exclaimed with as wide of a grin as he could manage. "Good to meet you!" As he spoke he leapt off of his stony perch and landed on the ground with an odd assortment of clicks and thuds. He hadn't quite grown accustomed to the feel of stone under his talons and the jolt of landing was a bit uncomfortable but he managed to shake it off fast enough to finish with, "I'm Zamyr. Just Zamyr, mind."

"What brings you out this way?" He was all smiles and cheer right now. She was quite brave. So far he'd met a good number of daring females. That was promising. He'd left his previous companion's company recently, perhaps too recently to be seeking out another, but exploring on his own just didn't hold the same appeal as going about with others.

"Zamyr. It is nice to meet you as well." She did her best to smile politely but she was finding it quite difficult. He kept moving closer. First from the cliff side and now along the ground. She didn't want to be rude but something deep inside her was telling her to keep him at a distance. Aside from his name she knew nothing about him. She didn't even know what he was. His face was friendly enough and there was nothing particularly threatening about his voice. What had her on edge were his talons and his apparent need to move in closer. These were things belonging to a predator and she was not pray.

She took a step back making it as casual as possible. "I'm heading in to the desert." She replied making sure to mind her manners. It would be rude not to answer at all but there was no reason why she should give out too many details. If he was dangerous she didn't want him knowing precisely where she was going. Of course she didn't exactly know where she was heading herself so perhaps it was not the best plan ever concocted. "And yourself? Where are you heading to?"

Zamyr would have had to be a fool to miss her apprehension over his approach. She may have been brave enough to face him without knowing who, or probably what, he was but it seemed that had limits. What a shame. He settled where he was figuring it was as good a spot as any to talk.

"The desert?" That was a shame as well. He'd just left the desert. He didn't want to go back so soon even if it was with a new face. He wanted something new and exciting. "I was heading in the other direction." He nodded his head as though the other way was in question. It was a path that really only had two directions unless you were planning on rock climbing or flying. "Did you know that apparently there are crystal waterfalls?" Truth be told he had only learned about this from what was best described as a half-crazed rabbit that was probably just afraid that Zamyr was going to kill him. It was not the most reliable source but a waterfall alone was the stuff of legend where he came from and one made out of crystal? That was really special. "Must be worth a see, don't you think?"

Jia Li shook her head. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I'm set on going to the desert." As fascinating as a crystal waterfall sounded it was too far fetched for even her to believe. She'd been around a few times and she'd seen waterfalls and she'd seen crystals but she'd never seen a crystal waterfall. The very idea just seemed impossible.

Every bit as impossible as a wish granting spring.

She fought back the urge to frown at the thought. Even if the spring didn't exist she would at least get to see the desert. That was the important part. Broadening her horizons. She couldn't do that by going back home and seeing all the same things again. It was unfortunate that they both seemed so intent on going opposite directions. Jia Li could have learned a lot from the stallion.

"It was nice meeting you, though. Perhaps our paths may cross again one day." She offered him a polite smile before turning to pick up her path where she had left it. The desert was waiting for her.

So crystal waterfalls weren't her thing. Zamyr hadn't quite given up on her yet and he continued on as cheerfully as before. "You sure? There are other things too. Like great..." The enthusiasm in his voice died down when he caught a good look at her face. She was serious. She was going to the desert and there didn't seem to be anything that would shake her resolve. At least not anything he could say. He doubted even warning her about horse-eating boulla monsters wouldn't deter her. Though, that sounded made up even to him.

"It was nice meeting you as well." He said giving her a small smile as she turned to leave. For a while he did nothing but watch her retreating form. "Maybe one day...after you see whatever it is you want to." Zamyr turned to leave as well but stopped suddenly realizing something.

"Wait!" He called turning back again. "Jia Li!" He paused waiting for her to stop or look at him or anything but she just kept walking. She couldn't hear him. She was too far off. Zamyr started to race after her but stopped after only a few steps. She probably wouldn't take kindly to some stranger rushing after her. He sighed and resigned to saying what he wanted to quietly to himself, "Have a good life."

With that said he pointed himself back in the right direction and set off hoping that all of his encounters in this new place didn't go quite as bad.
