Summer was over. That much was clear. No longer were the days as long, nor the sun as bright and present. The leaves had gone into changing up their garb, looking their best just before the frost would take away their beautiful foliage. Animals were frantically scurrying about to prepare for the cold, storing, migrating, fattening up, and making homes that would sustain them appropriately. For Joey, however, it wasn't any different than any other seasonal change. It was a necessity, something that needed to happen in order to keep the balance of life.
On this day, when the sun was actually visible and gracing the world with it's warm embrace, the buck took advantage of this time to do his daily work. He still lived with his mother. In truth, it was because he was afraid of her being alone. His father was a traveling man, and wasn't home much... and though his mother never showed it, he knew that she hurt from this. He had a home for himself which he'd visit from time to time, but the majority of his lively hood was spent with the sweet Banalina. There was a crack, a thumping that sounded at a consistent pace. It echoed in the deep forest, causing some birds to perk in curiosity. Since he was the only physically strong individual around the fragile doe, Joey did the usual duties of firewood collecting, hunting, fixing up the house, and the like. Currently, he was chopping some wood. His swings were powerful, making chunks fly out from the tough bark, the tree easily going to fall soon. He was focused, that stoic face composed, and dead set on the chipping away area that he'd targeted. He'd been at this for at least an hour, already compiling a good size amount of the stuff... but he wanted to make sure his mother wasn't ever cold while in her home. As for a certain young doe, she was busy in another department. After helping Banalina clean up the house, who was now visiting a friend in need, Lette set to gathering around the area. Mushrooms especially. Those were Joey's favorite. She'd grown to like her new big brother. He was quiet, a bit stupid at times, but very consistent, respectful, and reliable. She too was rather quiet at times, but extremely straight forward and blunt. It was how she'd always bee. A sack was at either side of her furry hide, supported by a tough strip of cloth along her back, filling with mushrooms, herbs, wild grasses, wild fruits, and the like. She'd checked traps earlier and was able to get a small boar, and some rabbits. Joey had promised to take her to the market today after he was done with his work, well... Banalina had asked him to... so she had nothing to really do in the meantime.

Humming quietly to herself the centauress walked along the edge of the forest. Up ahead was the market and her goal today was to stock up on some spices and other such necessities for her tavern's kitchen before the trader's went away for the winter in order to restock. Certainly the market never closed, but some of the items that Flora prefered to use in the kitchen left with those certain traders.
But of course she was easily distracted. Stopping every minute or so Flora soon had a collection of herbs and other fall flowers that had caught her eye on the way. It was a good thing that she had more than just the small satchel hanging from her shoulder. Several bags were tied down around her hips and even her back had a bag tied to it. She really was going to have a long walk back just dragging everything she wanted to get today with her. Still the thought only made her laugh softly. It was just like an adventure! Usually Triston got to do these types of things, but it was so pretty with the autumn season changing the leaves to so many colors. Well she couldn't resist a nice long walk every now and then right?
Her gaze suddenly caught sight of a small object poking up from behind some leaves. Bending down Flora moved them aside to uncover several mushrooms. Oooh. Her expression softened as she picked them. Mushrooms after all were his favorites.

The work and toil went on for about another half hour, and a loud creaking, and finally a loud collapse and tremor shook along the ground. The tree had been successfully cut down. Now all was left was making small chunks of it... But that would be for another day. Taking a peek up at the sky told the buck that it was indeed time to get going. Didn't want to head back home from the market when it's dark. Hoisting up the heavy axe, he let it rest on his shoulder, and turned to head back home. Arriving at the small cottage, he took a look around for his baby sister, lips pursing slightly in thought. But her scent was caught easily, drifting off to the south of the home. Probably finishing something up... While he waited on her, he went on ahead and put his axe away, in a small shed right beside the cozy cottage... that was molded with a tree. Heading into it afterwards, he took a look around the place. Spick and spam! Upon admiring the handiwork, he noticed his reflection in a glass window... sweat was glistening all along his dark skin. Staring for a moment, as if contemplating, he went on to the kitchen, grabbed a cloth, and dipped it into a water bowl nearby that was used for rinsing. Squeezing the excess water out, he wiped it along his face, chest, arms, and what of his back he could reach. Couldn't go into town looking that way... especially... when the possibility of seeing her was an option. Staring at the now dirtied cloth, heat rose to the large bucks cheeks, eyelids growing a bit heavy... clearly lost in a daydream.
Meanwhile, the little sister, who was taller than most doe's her age, was heading back home. Her packs were filled with goodies of all kinds, and weighing nicely on her back, which would mean getting stronger! Stepping right into the house, her ears perked as she saw her brother... raising a curious brow at his expression. After a moment, she rolled her eyes and clicked on over to him, paused to stare, before giving a light slap to his back. The buck blinked slowly, and looked down to the dull expression on the girl, and then the produce she'd rounded up. Shaking her head, she walked around him to dispose of the packs along the side of the kitchen wall. With her body free of that anchor, she shook herself out a bit, before looking back at the stag expectantly. It was time to go. Maneuvering around him, she picked up a satchel that was resting on a hook in the room, and slid it over her shoulder. Inside it held some currency, a knife, and a few other necessities for heading out. She was heading for the door, expecting the buck to follow, when she stopped at the door... looked back to him, and noticed he was staring at a small figurine shaped flower just above the windowsil. A very slumped and bored expression dramatically fell on the girl. Of course.... this again... With a heavy sigh, and another roll of her eyes, she clicked on over to a vase in the other room, plucked out the bouquet and headed straight to her brother. She pushed it at him, lifted his hand and forced it to close around the bottom end. With that secured, she took his other arm, and tugged him out the door.

“Hey, hey sale over here!”
“No here!”
Flora smiled with amusement as she was emerged in the familiar sounds of the market. It had been a while since she had actually came here alone and still the centaur kept looking over her shoulder. She was still expecting Zura or Triston to be there ready to grab onto her arm. Not that she was that much of a klutz. Bumping into a stall the centauress flushed and apologized before quickly moving on. Maybe she should have asked for someone to accompany her. Flora shook her head. “Surely I can do this.”
Smiling brightly she moved to a stall which smelled of a mix of spices. If was heavenly really to one who spent so much time cooking and concocting new recipes. A bit husky and once she breathed in too much ginger and a sneeze made her step back. Oh. “I’ll have a bag of this please.” She held it up and as she watched the merchant tie up the root the centauress pointed to more spices, “Oh and that as well please.” Another pause as she searched around, touching and lightly sniffing at the roots and other supplies. “Some of this too….and that there as well…”
Her packs were already getting heavier and her coin purse lighter.
