The air was growing more and more chilled as the days progressed, it seemed. It was becoming harder to even enjoy the outdoors, most retreating inside. But there were those few occasions when the wind wouldn't be as relentless, and give a pocket of time when visiting the fresh air was permitable. For Athir, he took advantage of this when ever he could. After all, once Winter came around, there wouldn't be a chance at all to be outside for more than just going to and fro building to building. Seated neatly along the academy's grounds, in one of the courtyard's to be exact, the quiet boy read. It was a common look for him, as well as activity. Plenty were walking past him, chatting, laughing, engaging, but as usual he kept to himself. But a soft expression was always on his gentle features, even a light smile that could be seen as inviting, though quite timid. In truth, he liked the sound of all the going-on's around him. It was a comfort. Though he hadn't any friends, and wasn't very sociable, he liked the sound of just simple interaction, even if it wasn't directed to him. A page would be turned every so often, scarf adjusted when a rebellious wind would kick up, but asides from that, the boy remained stationary.

Kalypso walked out of her room and made her way outside. It was such a lovely day today that she decided to go sit out on the courtyard and practice playing her violin. She had brought new sheet music the other day and wanted to try it out. Finding a nice place with a beautiful tree for space to sit at Kalypso started to play her violin. The piece was called "Ode to joy" from Beethtoven. She already knew how to play it on the piano but now she was going to learn how to play it for the violin. She was good at listening to other people play and then playing the notes right after them.

She started to go over it. She finished playing the notes and wished she had someone to critique her on her performance. She looked all around the courtyard till she saw a boy sitting all by himself not too far from her. He was reading a book and looked really into it. She felt bad that she was going to disturb him. She hoped he wasn't going to be mean to her. She cleared her throat. "Um excuse me sir, but what did you think of my performance?"

Fully engrossed in his reading, Athir didn't even really notice the girl who'd joined into the festivities of the courtyard. Not even her playing. When he was absorbed in his literature, it was hard for anything to really catch his attention on the outside. He was practically sucked into a trance! All noise was silenced, blocked out, and droned into the natural backdrop of the setting. However, it wasn't too hard to draw him out with a voice. One directed clearly at him.

Kalypso was doing just that. It took the boy a minute to realize he was even being addressed, giving a delayed reaction, gray eyes flicking up to meet the one looking down at him. He was surprised to say in the least, that this girl who he'd never met had approached him. Blinking a few times, he gave an apologetic, and semi-embarrassed expression, "Pardon, miss?"

Kalypso smiled at the boy. He was so engrossed in his book he was reading that he didn't even hear her. She knew the feeling as she sometimes got like when she was reading or even playing her violin and letting the music take her over. She took her violin and went over to the boy and sat down beside him. " I had asked you what you thought of my performance." She looked around them at the courtyard. "Beautiful day isn't it? A nice day to be out of our stuffy rooms and be out in the warm air." Kalypso wasn't really so talkative but something inside her told her that this boy wasn't going to be mean to her or anything.

She looked at the book he had in his hands. Not even letting him get a chance in to answer her she continued to ask another question. "So what are you reading? I just finished this wonderful book. It was about a pirate who finds love while out at sea. It was very romantic." Kalypso stopped herself before she talked the poor boy to death. They didn't even know each other's name. "Oh where are my manners my name is Kalypso."

Athir perked up a little, blinking a few times as the girl revealed what he'd missed. Performance? His gaze flickered down to the fiddle that she possessed, flushing lightly as he looked back up to her, an apologetic smile in tact, "Oh please forgive me, miss. I must have been too caught up in my readings to have noticed." He stopped short as she moved onto a new topic though, smiling in a more relaxed fashion, nodding in agreement slowly. Yes it was quite nice. He was usually outside though, only keeping indoors on windy days, or during the evening and nights. And during classes, of course.

He didn't mind her talkative nature, as he was the opposite. He was more of a listener anyway, so this was all fine and dandy. Of course, as he tried to respond again, she'd already been continuing, thus making his mouth close, and smile resume. "That sounds quite exciting." he replied quietly. He was a sucker for romance stories... always had been. But it was mostly a secret that he kept, seeing as most would find it amusing... and it was something he was semi-embarrassed of. His thoughts were drawn out of such things as the girl spoke of her name, eyes rising again to meet hers, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Kalypso. I am Athir."

Kalypso stopped talking and mentally kicked herself. The poor boy must think she was crazy. She took a big breath. "Well Athir nice to meet you." Kalypso thought of something else to say. She can't believe that she actually went up and talked to someone. These kinds of things usually scare her, but she had told herself that it was time that she became more advantures and more sociable. She didn't think she would actually stick to it and done what she just did. And the fact that she started talking to a member of the opposite sex was surprising to her. She looked at Athir more closely. He was a very good looking man. She usually stay away from the good looking ones. To her good looking equals arrogance. Somehow through she didn't think Athir was kind of person.

"So Athir what are you reading?"

With introductions out of the way, Athir gave a small nod in agreement. He didn't meet many other students, or individuals at all. So this was quite nice. His reserved nature often times hindered him from such experiences. Never would he approach another, or... well, maybe not never, but it was a rarity on his part. He wouldn't want to be a bother, after all.

His attention was recaptured with the prompted question, gray eyes lowering down to his book, fingers gently stroking the parchment, "It's a book on healing magic. Something I hope to become accomplished in." he admitted quietly, bashfully even, if you will. It wasn't often that he'd tell someone something personal, or of his goal's in life, but it seemed to tie into this line on conversation. "It will be awhile until I'll be able to perform them properly.." he murmured. Though he was quiet studious, his confidence in his abilities was more or less non-existent.

Kalypso looked at the book and sighed. "I wish you good luck on that. I'm still trying to learn magic myself." She thought back to the magic test she had to take the other day and how much of a failure it turned out to be. She almost putted the whole school on fire. She was just trying to do a simple spell when smoke started appearing. As for healing magic, she didn't even want to think about what happened to her classmate that she was partnered with on the healing project she had to do. "I tried to do some healing magic but it didn't come out the way I expected. I had to partner with a classmate of mine and.... lets just say that he had to go to the emergency room and is now bandaged up like a mummy."

She hoped that didn't lessen her chances of graduating. She was really looking forward to becoming a witch and leaving school and moving back to her families farm in Clarus Arbor

His eyes softened into a look of understanding a sympathy. It wasn't easy for everyone to pick up on the ways of magic. He wasn't the worst nor the best, in his eyes at least, and had his share of failures as well, "It's alright. I'm sure you'll do better the next time. With mistakes comes learning from them, right? At least... that's what my teachers always tell me." he giggles softly to himself. But he did widen his gaze a little as her own healing attempt was revealed, "Oh my.. is he alright now..?" he asked quietly, not wanting to embarrass her, or make her feel any worse than she most likely already did about the situation. "Perhaps.. trying a simpler spell might help? At a smaller degree? Ointments or potion concocting?" maybe it wasn't his place to give advice, but... he wanted to try and help.

"I'm sure you'll be able to accomplish it the more you practice." he assured finally, giving her his most encouraging smile.
