It was late but she was too restless to sleep. Instead of being up in her Weyr therefore the scarred rider was lying on her back on top of her scarred dragon, gazing up at the stars. One of them, red as human blood, seemed to gaze back. The Thread encroached, and their Weyrleader was dead. Dead. Murdered by Benden’s hand in retaliation for something they hadn’t done. The whole Weyr was abuzz with rumour and gossip of how the killer had managed to get in, and of what would be done next.

“It will not bring him back,” Kleos murmured absently, rubbing at the score-twisted flesh of her face. Nothing could change what had already happened, no matter how much you wished it and no price Benden was made to pay could be sufficient.

Moraith hummed, high praise indeed when it came to her opinion of males. If she were allowed to personally rip apart that shadowy shape that it was said swept the murderer away of safety she would do it with pleasure; Malvren was her Weyr, and any who dared to harm one of its people had her to answer to.

Mercy, like many people in the Weyr, had found she couldn't sleep either and after a little while of laying in her bunk attempting it...she just gave up. There was simply no point in just laying around when sleep clearly wasn't going to come. Things had been going so well - sure she and Aerith had not been allowed to fly in a wing but they were flying and she'd been considering other ways she could help out - she and Aerith had just come to terms with not flying thread when the murder at Benden had occured. The loss of the queen had upset even Aerith - regardless of the fact that said queen would likely think little of the white - and it had been absurd to think any of her felllow Malvren riders had something to do with it. Mercy had been so sure the true culprit would be found and Malvren would be cleared of any wrong doing.

Instead...it looked like the other Weyr had decided on revenge...and now there were two Weyrs in chaos with half a leadership. It was sad..and pointless and just so..

'Why don't we go for a walk?' Aerith suggested suddenly and Mercy started slightly - she hadn't even realized that her dragon was awake. In fact she'd been pretty sure the white had managed to fall asleep a while earlier and guiltily she realized her distraught thoughts had likely awoken her again.

'I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you' Mercy apologized as she made her way towards Aeriths wallow 'but a walk..might be nice' She agreed, if anything it might help get rid of the restless feeling that was plaguing her. The feeling that she ought to be off doing something to fix this whole mess somehow.

'nonesense, my sleep was sporadic anyways' Aerith stated as she met her rider and the two headed out onto the beach. They hadn't gone very far when they noted the large hulking shape of a dragon along the way. 'It's Moriath and hers' Aerith chirped somewhat cheered by the discovery of likely her favorite pair in the entire weyr.

"I guess you two couldn't sleep either?" Mercy stated as they drew closer.

Zeren couldn't sleep, his friend Kazvar was on watch likely and he didn't want to bother the Wherhandler and delay him in his patrol. Instead he took a walk down to the beach, looking down at his feet, scuffing the moonlit sands with his boot, picking up the odd shiny shell for his flits to play with. He didn't notice the dragons until he was almost upon them. It was too late to back off now without seeming rude. "Good evening riders, i trust your dragons are doing well considering......." he didn't finish the sentence, the strain showed on his face too, he'd cried for the loss of the Weyrleader and his Dragon, the murder shocking almost everyone in the weyr most likely.

Moriath informed her rider, raising her head and letting out a low hum as the white approached. shed asked of the far smaller dragon.

Kleos sat up with a sigh as Moriath informed her of the pair's approach and shook her head. "Indeed not," she said softly, sliding off her dragon's back to land lightly in the sand. "Too many things on our minds," she elaborated, and was about to say more when another figure approached. The way he tailed off was all to telling of the awfulness of the whole situation. "Thank you," Kleos bowed deeply, "we are as well as can be expected as you say, I hope the same is true of you. My name is Kleos, and my lifemate is Moriath." Would he stare at her face? Mercy knew her and so she didn't, but she didn't know this young man and so he might.... Ha, how vain a creature was she that such thoughts still ran through her mind even now; there were clearly far weightier matters on his mind than a marred face, and the dimness of night hid it somewhat in any case.

Zeren did in fact take note of the threadscore but his furtive glance was one of respect, this rider and her dragon had gone back in time to collect the Mystweed that he was pretty sure saved Dragons from dying out, that made her pretty damn brave and just a little bit awesome in the young man's eyes. In fact, had he had ANY interest in women he would probably be thinking she looked pretty darn hot. "Rider Kleos, Crimson Moriath, i am Zeren" he said, returning the crimson rider's deep bow. "I am doing as well as i can be, Rider Kleos" he added, wondering whether he should sit down near the dragons or not, the white was so much smaller than the crimson but even so, she was impressive. He was always in awe of the dragons, despite him taking un-official lessons in wherhandling from Kazvar and his Blue. He was so sure no dragon would want him, just like his parents didn't want him now he'd chosen the weyr over the caravans. He sighed as he thought of them, they hadn't even bothered sending him a letter since the death of Yirath, well ... in truth.... since before that but most he knew from holds or anywhere else not born at the weyr, had gotten worried letters, hoping to bring their children back. He didn't ignore the dragons and riders, their presence impossible to, but he looked up at the stars and had to wonder. His thoughts tumbling around without sheilding them from prying minds, not that there were any, his flits were all nicely asleep, arranged on his bed. It was obivous he hadn't even tried to sleep on it, covered with five flit bodies.

'Mine has tried to rest' Aerith stated 'but her mind is too busy, she feels like we should be out doing something' The white explained with a draconic sigh settling beside Moriath's larger bulk while the humans spoke. It would be nice to do something the white had to agree but Aerith was a touch lost about just what it was that they could do.

When another human joined the party, Aerith chirped a polite greeting to him, it wasn't someone the white knew but there was something to be said for camaraderie in the face of troubling times.

"I know how you feel" Mercy agreed with Kleos "I feel like we ought to do something but of course I have no idea what" There was always searching for the killer and such of course and the thought had crossed her mind but how were they supposed to do that? All they had were rumors and vague descriptions so far and that sort of thing was part of the reason this whole mess had gone the way it had in the first place.

Shrugging slightly she glanced over as another figure joined them, remaining silent as the man introduced himself and offered a few words, she was fairly certain that she'd seen him about the Weyr before a time or two "Thank you Zeren. Aerith and I hope you are well too - all of this has been hard on everyone I think, it's important that we all stick together now" And keep an eye out of course...the killer had already taken one of their leaders but a part of her worried that the Weyrleader nd his bronze hadn't been the original target..what if they had wanted to kill a goldrider for goldrider..what if they came back and tried again? It was a troubling thought.
