He had arrived with his two siblings, they had been told that separately they had to find a duel to join the pride. He had a feeling his sisters would get in before him. That was what they were like, head strong and though he would never admit it he feared his sisters above all others, they were touch as nails and hard as rocks. He was here, alone in search of his first duel. He roared loudly hoping to get an answering growl and an acceptance of a duel.

Being a Tracker now, Rowtag found that if he wasn't chasing somebody down... He had too much time on his paws. Even with most of the pride off looking for water, the young adult male still had too much time. So he decided to fill it by making a different name for himself.
As he watched the other lion approach, the red male had to sort of... Stop and stare. His markings made him look like his half-sister, yet Rowtag knew there was no blood relation. He'd have to ask some other time. For now, he had a fight on his paws. "Welcome to the Firekin, I'll be your opponent!" Without another word, and without any warning, the red lion charge forward, paw reaching out and striking the other.

Xagan snorted and growled, lashing out and striking back without a moments hesitation. He was here to fight and win a place in the pride. Pleasantries could wait until afterwards.

Rowtag snarled back, doing his best to avoid the hit. It was to no avail, though, as he felt the claws rake his shoulder. The black-faced lion looked at his shoulder a moment, before raising a paw to test it. Blood was on his paw. Oh yeah, this guy meant business. Instead of attacking again, Rowtag pranced around him, not only attempting to confuse his opponent, but so he could think of what his next move would be.

Xagan snarls, not expecting the other lion to dodge left, he felt the attack before it even hit and he cursed his luck. Clearly he had managed to find a worthy opponent, he would never live this down if he failed to enter the firekin the first time...

Rowtag practically pranced as he circled his opponent. The grin on his face was very telling, as well. He knew he was going to win this, and he could later claim it was his father's pure blood combined with his mother's rogue stamina that had helped him. Hybrid vigor, as it were. He didn't attack again, not yet, instead opting for a moment to taunt his opponent. "Can't take the heat there, buddy? Is it too hot in here for you? I'm not even breaking a sweat!"

Xagan growled circling the other male, he could feel himself waning, it seemed he had been travelling to long. he should have waited. His sisters would badger him for failing to join the pride the first time. It seemed he was out of his league, he was going to fail and he would have to come back and try again.

The male kept an eye on the other, before moving, circling and keeping pace. His paws barely seemed to sink into the sand, well adapted to the desert environment. Suddenly he began to pick up the pace, paws almost flying as he moved over the sand. With a quick movement, he turned, lashing out at the other lion, letting out an angry roar. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he'd decided... This lion was not worth. At least, not yet. His claws raked the other, while Rowtag simultaneously twisted to keep out of reach of a retaliatory move.

Finding his paws deep in a sand bank the dark male growled and took the hit. His ears vanished in to his thick dark mane and he gives a long sigh. "You win. I will be back." He growls tucking his tail down he backs away from the deep red male his teeth flashing white. He would have to come back another time, he would have to return to win his place here.
His sisters, if they had gotten their places, would taunt him forever for not entering the pride the first time. He would never hear the end of it, and he would have to act thoroughly contrite. He could not believe he had lost but he would not be lost forever he would return to try again and next time he just knew he would win.

The red lion let out a huff, ears trained on the other. "Give your wounds time to heal before you try again." He eyed the other. "And while you weren't deemed worthy THIS time.. You may prove your worth next time." He bowed his head, ears moving to the sides. "May our next meeting be as pride brothers." He then turned, padding off. Luut had a duel today, too... Rowtag wanted to see how his silent friend did.
When he crested the dune, he was just in time to see Luut not only beaten... But flirted with. Rowtag covered his mouth, before laying down and laughing, until he rolled back down the dune. He'd moved just in time to avoid being spotted.
