Settled between the many businesses in town lies a recent addition to the island, antique shop owned by Leon Kidd. It's pretty quiet, manned by it's employees when the owner is out and about. The place is full of just about every antique item possible, and whatever isn't there is most likely back at the man's home in his spare room. You can usually find what you're looking for... if you're careful enough not to bump into anything else, since the place is pretty cluttered. If not, well ask at the oddly dressed man with glasses and a hat, yeah the owner.

Junior wasn't one to be very fond of rain, though he didn't hate it either. The redhead looked up through the clear umbrella he held to watch the light spray of drops drizzle down. He didn't see the point to having the umbrella when he already had a hood to protect him from the rain, but his father had forced it onto him and, Junior being the way he was, there was no protest from the student. He felt guilty moving out and leaving Kade alone, so, during breaks in his busy schedule, he came to visit to let his dad do all the parental things that he missed, which included dressing him so the 'harsh' weather wouldn't make him sick. Though.. Junior was sure Kade would secretly love for Junior to get sick. Any excuse to keep him from leaving again. He would think Kade would have appreciated the distance between them now, but, well, there were some things Junior just never would understand about his dad. He lowered his eyes from the plastic over his head, looking forward at the antique shop he stood infront of. Junior didn't know why he had decided to stop here – he hadn't ever been really interested in 'antiques' and he knew Kade found them either creepy or gross..

But, it looked quiet, maybe warm, and he had the impression that someone elderly may be running it. He liked old people – they were always nice to him and he felt less anxious when he was near them. The island didn't have many elderly couples around – mostly young adults, he noticed – but, maybe.. ..It would be nice to find someone like Gladice again. He opened the door, somehow surprised by the lack of dust he breathed in. He stole a glance around before quickly scurrying to some corner to the right, not wanting to stand in the middle of the open or to irritate someone by blocking the door. “..Oh.” He mumbled out as he caught sight of a shelf of antique kitchenware – or that was what he guessed it was. He hesitated before carefully picking a strawberry-shaped cookie jar down, turning it around in his hands. It felt like something Gladice would have kept in her kitchen – or, if not her, then dad..? Maybe?

Yuri wouldn't say that she disliked her job. No, she was actually oddly fond of it. Like how someone is fond of a grandparent or something. Old and sometimes with interesting stories to tell, it would be hard to imagine her life without her job, but dear lord, was it boring. Maybe if they just got another assistant, she could take shorter shifts, but for the time being, it was just her and Leon, but often times just her. Just her and a bunch of old things. She liked antiques. She liked the smell and poking through the inventory during her breaks, but there wasn't much for her to do while on the job. An antique shop wasn't exactly a hot spot, especially not in a tiny island comprised of mainly young people. Not to mention, their regular NPC customers were a quiet bunch. If only she were a reader! She could get so much reading down if she had the interest.

When the door opened with a jingle, Yuri didn't move -- she was much too committed to sitting behind the counter, face down against the hard surface. She had been like that for a while, probably about half an hour, though she hadn't checked the time. She ignored the sound of the door, since lots of people came in, and quickly retreated out. It wasn't until she heard a small voice that she turned her head, so she had her cheek pressed against the warm counter top. "You break it, you buy it!" she said loudly, assuming it was another high schooler or something. Sometimes they got students looking for a place to hang out after class. She hated it when teenagers came in, they were just so stupid and clueless.

On second though, though, it was oddly quiet, no snickering or talking. Yuri sat up and leaned to the side where she sat on her stool. Despite the clutter, she spotted a flash of orange hair and stood up. "Do you need help? Are you looking for anything?" She climbed over the counter (she was much too lazy to take the time to walk around) and went in search of their customer. He was standing in the corner, looking at a jar. The dark haired woman raised an eyebrow. A moment later, she noticed Junior's face, and recognized him. "Oh, hey, it's you," she broke into a smile. She couldn't remember his name, but he had been in her class in school. One didn't run into old classmates very often, oddly enough. Especially not quiet ones like this one.

If Junior had been a little younger, he probably would have dropped the cookie jar entirely at the first shout, if only because of what the woman had said. His luck had never been very good and he was sure that all fate wanted to do right then was make him pay for a broken cookie jar. But, instead, he fumbled, dropped the object, and caught it just in time with his knees before it shattered onto the ground. He stayed crouched awkwardly, knees shaking as the pressure of keeping something from crashing onto the ground – something that wasn't his – scaring him. How could he keep the cookie jar afloat? He could hardly keep himself from ruin! Who in their right minds would trust him – ? ...Ah. He cleared his throat and took the cookie jar by his hands, straightening back up. Those kinds of thoughts were often what lead him to failure. It was nice to be going to school and being able to speak to counselors about his negative mentality – it made it easier to catch himself before he did something stupid like he always did.

Though, he wasn't good enough to stop them entirely. He let the cookie jar go back on the shelf just as the employee came, his eyes going towards her with recognition – Yuri. They went to class together when he lived on the island. Junior always remembered a classmate, though.. he didn't know someone would ever recognize him. “A-ah.” He croaked out, passing to swallow as he wasn't sure how to deal with this. He had come to visit his dad plenty of times since he moved away, but he never had anyone actually.. talk to him, like they knew him. His face showed his embarrassment at the situation as he forced himself to speak, “Yes – um, no – er, i-it's.. nice seeing you, Yuri. How's.. June?” They were friends, weren't they? ..Or were they dating..? He never remembered seeing them doing anything like a couple, but he knew they were always around eachother during school..

Yuri let her eyes wander over to the cookie jar Junior had been looking at a moment earlier. It was interesting, sometimes, to see what caught the attention of customers. For example, she was always attracted to the larger, wooden pieces. They were big, sturdy, usually had some practical use, and had a story. You could tell from the scuffs on the legs and other marks. But she knew she was unusual in that respect. There were the girls who beelined for the jewelry, those who liked the clothes, or books, or in the case of Junior, cookie jars. She allowed herself to wear an amused smile for a moment as she assessed the situation. So this boy was the cookie jar type.

Now, if only she could remember his name! She knew it was something childish. You, know the sort of name that was fine during childhood but fit oddly during adulthood, like Billy or Timmy. What was it? ...Junior, right! How could she forget a name like that? Probably because it was so simple, it didn't make much of an impression. "Junior," she said out loud, gesturing towards him, like a child learning how to talk and identifying objects by these new words. Her smile grew. He was so flustered, had he always been this shy? She was a little surprised by how little she could remember of her classmates, him in particular. He was her age, and yet he seemed so much like a kid. It was... it was cute! She didn't have the sensation of 'cute' very often. "Oh, you know, he's fine," she shrugged, reaching up to brush her hair back. "Same brat as always.... Wait, but why are you asking me?" she asked as it occurred to her. She cocked her head to the side and looked up at Junior quizzically. She spent all of her time with June or Mac, so she didn't have the greatest idea of how they appeared to other people. She was genuinely curious why Junior would ask her how June was. Or why he remembered that they were friends! How interesting!

Next, she realized that she was looking up. "You've gotten tall!" she exclaimed, wasting no time on segues or anything. She had gotten used to being eye level with June, taller even, when she wore heels. Talking to an old classmate who was a good four inches taller was new! "Oops, sorry, that was loud," she giggled softly as she glanced around the shop. It was just the two of them, but who knew when Leon would come back in to find her slacking off? Sort of. Technically Junior was a customer! A potential customer, but she could try to change that. "You were looking at that jar, right? It's pretty cute, isn't it? The color's nice, too." She leaned forward to examine the jar. It would be a little odd to send Junior home with a strawberry cookie jar, but a sale was a sale, and if it meant she had someone to talk to for a little bit, she would sell that cookie jar to the best of her abilities.

She.. she was smiling at him? Junior tried not to look away or squeak or do anything that could ruin the moment – not even breathing was aloud! It wasn't that no one ever smiled at him – his dad was nothing but smiles when he came these days, after all, and store employees usually gave him smiles like that.. It was just a polite thing to do. Still, for whatever reason, Junior always felt off guard when he saw someone take the actions towards him and he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do in return. It took a second of debate before he slowly smiled tensely in return. He dropped it in a second, though, knowing that his smile wasn't pretty or anything like hers was – no one wanted to see him do that.

Ah?” He sounded as another thing made itself known – she knew his name. Yuri Allen, a girl he hadn't talked to for years, a girl was friends and a life knew his name. Remembered it, even! Another smile grew without him knowing, this time far more sincere, and it continued as he answered the woman, to his surprise, “You.. you and June are.. um.. always.. were, you were always.. together, so..” The warm glow didn't help him get through his words any better, though, but, well, he didn't expect it to do a miracle. Before he could finish his struggle to phrase this without making Yuri realize that she hated him and had much better things to do than talk to someone like him, the girl spoke up and he paused in mild confusion at her statement. He got tall? Well, yes, it had been a few years and people normally grew in that time, but he wasn't going to point that out to her. Instead, he creased his brow up until she apologized.

At that point, he hurriedly set the jar on a nearby shelf and held both hands up as if he was prepared to grab her before she ran away. “N-no!” He rushed out, shaking his hands to better grab her attention, “No, no, I'm sorry! I was the one t-to.. grow.. taller..” ..God, even Junior wasn't sure what he was apologizing for. Existing? Yeah, that worked. He cleared his throat and lowered his hands carefully to his sides, feeling dizzy and looking not just a little flushed. It would be times like these that he would excuse himself for a drink or something to gather himself as best as he could, but.. he didn't want to be rude and, as was already made clear, he didn't want to risk offending Yuri. This could be his first friend on the island! First friend that didn't die or disappear on him, that is.. “Ah?” He snapped his eyes back up to look at Yuri, then to the cookie jar he had quickly discarded in a moment of panic. “Oh... It – I was looking at it for.. my dad. H-he likes things like that.” He told her, not wanting her to think he wanted to have it. It was a nice jar, but, well, his uncle had been kind enough to inform him everything that could happen as a result of taking something like that for himself. He loved and accepted his dad, but he didn't want to be hated because people thought he was like him. It was hard enough to get by without that issue!

Yuri probably would have scowled, if she hadn't been so determined to play the Helpful Salesperson card. She had enough experience to know that a sudden frown was not usually well-received. Especially not when it was directed at a boy who looked like he was about to pass out. Well, it wasn't really directed at him, it was more of a direct consequence of what he had said. She was disappointed. "...Oh, yeah... Always together... that makes sense..." she replied absentmindedly as she forced herself to maintain a smile. It did make sense, but it wasn't what she wanted. Of course, she and the blonde always hung out, so she would be the one to ask! That was assuming, of course, that she and June were still friends. Oh, how she wished that she had said 'Oh, he died'! ...That was a little too mean, even for her. And so she reached up and brushed her hair out of her face and exhaled audibly. It was a boring answer. Something like 'June totally had a thing for you back then' would have been better. God, how awesome would that have been? Then she would have been able to go home feeling smug and superior. Of course, it wasn't the redhead's fault, and so she brushed the topic aside. She could agonize over it later.

Thankfully, her disappointment didn't dwell for long. Yuri was soon caught up in how cute Junior was. It was like getting elbowed in the stomach, a sort of forceful realization that wracked through her brain and made her unable to do much of anything. He was cute, adorable even, and she hated that word. The stutter, the slight trembling quality to his voice, the red face, it was cute! She couldn't hate this kind of person, she wasn't a monster, but most of all, it appealed to her sadistic side. "Why are you apologizing? It's not anything you can control... Besides, better than being a dwarf, right?" she snickered, perhaps a little too meanly. It was just so delightful, all of it, and when was the last time she had experienced such a level of satisfaction?

She reached up to dab the corner of her eye lightly with her ring finger, as Junior addressed the cookie jar. "Your dad? Really?" Who was his family again? She may have been able to remember his face and his nickname, but that didn't mean that she would remember who he was related to. If she had ever been to the salon, her reaction would have been drastically different, but since she couldn't afford to go to the salon and did everything herself, she couldn't conjure a face in her mind, or even begin to guess. "Well, your dad has cute taste," she suppressed another snicker. At this rate, it was going to seem like she was laughing at him! So the cookie jar wasn't for him, but was it a gift? Yuri scanned the redhead's face for a moment, and finally noticed how red he was. "...You okay? Do you need to sit down or something?"

Yuri didn't seem too interested in telling Junior about June – which made the man automatically feel stupid for bringing it up. For all he knew, they could be fighting! Or dealing with a break up! Or something that Junior could never experience himself because – ...Ah, he shouldn't be so concerned with June and Yuri. June wasn't here and he wasn't giving Junior attention! Sure, it was likely only attention because Junior was a customer, but he wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth! Or however that saying usually went. However pleased these thoughts were, Junior looked everything but. In fact, he looked and very much felt like he wanted to run away or die on the spot. He forced a smile despite that, almost looking pained during the action, and tried a chuckle as the other did, “Y-yeah..” Not that he agreed with the sourness of the comment, he didn't want to disappoint her by being too sensitive towards dwarfs or.. something. Was it the usual to view dwarfs as bad? He didn't know, but Yuri probably did, so he couldn't rightly argue.

Not that he had any time to argue anyway as he caught her expression when she spoke next. He could hardly tell if that amusement was towards his father or him, but, as he always found himself doing despite logic, he assumed it was directed toward him. She was laughing at him! God, he knew there was something wrong with her wanting to talk to him! He swallowed down a lump that fell into the very pits of his stomach. He didn't feel like running very much then as he resigned himself to the expected mockery. “..Um..” He started to halfheartedly respond, glancing at her to notice that she was staring at him. Examining him! Was there something on his face? He averted his eyes immediately, lowering his head and silently hating his new haircut – he couldn't hide as easy anymore! He was left to hold his hands together and stare everywhere but at Yuri, trying not to show her he had seen her stare. Mocking, maybe, but.. but she was showing concern now! That was a good sign, right? “I-I'm fine! Good! U-um, uh..” He took in a sharp breath and held it for a second, his eyes for god knows what reason had collided into hers. He stood there, stunned, feeling his heart near stop and a cold sweat on his hands and face. “...S-sorry!” He shouted before ducking his head and hurrying out of the store, forgetting the 'gift' in favor of getting to his home, into his room, and under his bed to think over this entire day.
