It was late evening and Nahuat had commandeered himself a pumpkin pie. It was his first time eating such a thing and he had to admit it was the best decision he'd made in quite a long time. His cobra hood was folded underneath his cloak and he was sitting dangerously close to a road, using the shadows to partially hide himself.
In all honesty, he was deliberately tempting fate, hoping someone would come along to make his life just a little more exciting. His eyes were closed contently, his tongue flicking out between mouthfuls of pie to taste the air for anybody that might be nearby.

Varinia slithered along a path, alone. She knew she wasn't really supposed to go this far from the naga camp by herself, but she was so bored, and she would (most likely) be back before anyone noticed. The path connected to a road and she paused, but decided to continue for a little longer anyway. No one was out to bother her - and if some taur did come out and attack her, she could use the little magic she had learned so far to defend herself (probably).

Nahuat caught Varinia's scent and put the pie in his lap, chuckling deeply to himself and crossing his arms over his chest. He waited until she was within earshot before speaking up. What with where he was sitting, it was difficult to tell exactly where his voice was coming from, even though he made no attempt to properly conceal himself.
"It's not safe out here, you know."

Varinia jumped slightly at the unexpected voice, and hoped that it was dark enough that whoever had spoken hadn't noticed, though she doubted it. "Who's there?" she demanded, looking around before her eyes made out a shape of another person. She sounded brave, but it was more out of overconfidence in her abilities than the courage of someone well trained in self defense.

Nahuat stood up, then slipped out of the shadows. Though he was cloaked, his face was recognizable to those who had spent time around him. Though, it may be a little bizarre to see him without his usually adornments "Just a weary traveler," he replied with the faintest hint of a smirk, before taking another small bite of pie, not taking his eyes off of her. He was curious as to what she was doing wandering around on her own.

"P-prince Nahuat!" she stammered in surprise. "You- um- I didn't expect- Greetings, my lord!" She dipped her head in a quick bow. She wasn't normally so verbally challenged, but then, she wasn't normally caught out when she wasn't supposed to be out, and by the prince himself, no less.

"...So that's where you two were..." a voice hissed as a third naga appeared from the foliage of the forest. Unlike the other two, he had appeared from the opposite side of the road, looking as if he had just been about to return to the naga camp. He bowed low to the pair, putting an arm over his chest.
"Your majesty. Pardon my intrusion, but...if I may be so bold..." The male flicked his tail and looked up at his prince with vermillion eyes. "What might you be doing here so sparsely accompanied? And in such...drab garments?" His gaze shifted to Varinia, as if meant the message to be for her as well. "Where are your attendants? Your warriors, your magicians?"

An amused look briefly crossed his face as he moved forward, gliding lazily over a fallen log, "No need to worry, Varinia. I understand wanderlust, as you can see." He looked up sharply at the appearance of Maverick, briefly on guard but quickly relaxing when he realized it was one of his own.
"You suggest that I require an escort. And my grab garments are an effort to avoid bringing attention to myself," he smirks lightly, spinning his eating utensil idly as he watched the both of them, "I do agree, however, that young Varinia would do well to keep at least minimal company, especially when we aren't in our own territory."

Varinia smiled, pleased with herself, especially since the prince had just sympathized with her. She whipped around at the new voice and narrowed her eyes at Maverick's chastising. "Like the prince can't take care of himself," she muttered, then lowered her head with only a little bit of contrition when Nahuat mentioned her. "My apologies, sire. I was unsure whether or not I would be allowed to go if I asked someone to accompany me, so I thought it would be better to ask forgiveness than permission. I also felt that I could fight off any attackers, if there even were any... probably a foolish assumption, but my impatience clouded my judgment, I guess." She shrugged daintily.

Maverick's brows furrowed and he looked briefly distressed at Nahuat's response before sighing and recomposing himself. "A thousand apologies, but I think you misunderstand, my prince. My main concern was not directed at why you were wearing the garments, but why you seek to be out here in the first place. Especially without an escort."
He glanced at Varina as if she was only adding to his headache. "It is not a matter of whether he can take care of himself, lady. It is more the matter that his people need to know where he is at all times so they can look to him for hope and guidance. His mere presence assures them, but when that presence is absent, there is much to be concerned about."
The young noble shook his head. "I suppose if the two of you have made up your mind, then I have no choice. I will accompany you in whatever excursion you hoped to take and pray that it will not be for long. And also that we will not be missed before we return," he added fretfully, glancing past the other two toward the camp from which they'd come.
