It was a perfect night.
Just warm enough for the air to be heavy, scented with a mix of summer and autumn, the breeze stirring her blonde hair and stopping her from overheating in her uniform.
She'd been lucky, getting the jump on two would-be burglars, incapacitating them and draining them [and also, she might've added, chucking one of the teen's handgun into a trash compactor] of their energy. One particularly small orb was rolled between her fingers, kept for herself as she'd entered Negaspace to drop off her bounty.
Duty complete, she teleported inside her own home, letting Power from her form until she was left in a simple, white tank and comfortable, paint-splattered jeans. There was nothing to eat, and so she left, humming to herself as she considered her options. It was getting late.
Perhaps she shouldn't have smiled when she saw the familiar skirts, the jacket. Long black hair. Who knew the senshi wandered in the same neighborhood?
Her dinner plans were, momentarily, put aside as she stepped into an alcove, powering up and tossing the energy orb into her mouth like a breath mint. Fresh energy flooded her body, and Howlite stepped into the warm glow of a street lamp, letting out a low whistle. It was better than howling, no?
"Perseus," Her grin was wolfish, pleased that she'd learned her name. "I hope you plan on buying me dinner before you kiss me again." The fingers of one hand tightened and release on their own accord, flexing, anticipating.

Tonight, due to the weather, Perseus had wandered farther from her normal turf than was customary. It was possibly the last truly warm night of the season, the wind was a nice touch as well. So far it had been a relatively simple night, only having to break up some graffiti artists trying to deface a building. That is, until the power signature blipped up right near her area. Someone was powering up so close to her? It was more than a little unnerving.
Turning, Perseus was ready for whoever it was that was coming for her. "I would greet you properly, but I'm afraid I don't know you name. I guess Little Wolf will just have to do for now." The hand flex didn't escape her notice, but she stayed perfectly still. It was always better to react to a move than to make the first one.
"What brings you out tonight Little Wolf? The moon isn't out tonight. Did you lose your pack? Or are you just trying out your new clothes?" It was true that the lieutenant she had met before was now a Captain, at least by her power signature. She would have to be more careful, apparently the Negaverse promoted quickly.

"Neither," The lanky blonde walked a slow circle around Perseus, her black eyes running over the dark-haired girl with abandon. Sizing her up. Evaluating. Studying. "Just out hunting." For dinner, actually, but that wasn't the point. She'd found something much better to devour.
"I'm a nocturnal creature, you know. I belong on these streets. But what of you? I daresay you've ventured a bit far into my neck of the woods tonight." Howlite couldn't find it in her to be disappointed, either. Zinkenite had expressed an interest in the senshi of Illusions, and really, the blonde's intrigue was growing of its own accord.
"You should be careful," The grin had yet to fade from her face. "I would hate for you to get lost."

"Don't you know the stories Little Wolf?" Perseus spun smoothly on her feet, keeping in time with the predatory captain who was circling her. Her eyes, equally bright where Howlite's were dark, locked with the other girls. "Red Riding Hood always ventures into the woods." If she knew that the Negaversers had been talking about her, specifically Zinkenite, she probably wouldn't know what to feel about it. Mostly horrified, but also probably a tiny bit flattered. Zinkenite and her had always shared an interesting relationship, though it still unnerved her that he knew who she was as a civilian, even if he didn't correlate Perseus and Adira.
"I should daresay that I'm not the lost one here." A smile of her own flashed at that point. Not nearly as predatory as the grin on Howlite's face, more sad than anything. Perseus stepped back when the other girl was in front of her, hoping to knock the Nega out of orbit a little bit. She exuded confidence in her actions, but the way the captain was sizing her up was a little off putting. It set her on edge in the worst of ways.

"That would depend on who, exactly, was writing the tale, wouldn't it?" A laugh, surprisingly genuine, was released into the warm night, Howlite's pacing becoming faster, almost like the wolf Perseus had named her. She didn't deviate from her path, which meant that, as she paced and Perseus turned to watch her, she drew much closer than before.
When she moved, it was with the increased speed and strength now gifted to her by chaos, accompanied by the fresh burst of energy she'd swallowed before. Of course, it wasn't to kiss Perseus, but instead to attempt to wrap an arm around her middle, the other coming across her neck, the gloved palm of her hand seeking to press tight to the dark-haired girl's dangerous mouth as she leaned back, trying to keep her much shorter frame off-balance.
Hopefully, it wouldn't work against her hand. Either way, it seemed a safer bet that letting the clever senshi kiss her face again. Not that it hadn't been... Interesting.
"Forgive me," She was grinning again, though was doubtful that Perseus could see it from this angle, "If I'm not ready for you to blow my mind again, right out the gate." From her tone, one might've thought they were having a conversation over dinner.
"Since I found your name, it seems only fair to tell you my own. Howlite." Her nickname was appropriate, indeed.

Perseus wasn't caught entirely off guard for Howlite's attack, but the Nega didn't do what she had expected. Usually, once people knew the scope of her attack they avoided getting too close. And while she certainly could have kissed her hand, it wouldn't have done anything. Perseus needed to say the words to make anything happen at all.
Being short for once seemed to work in her advantage. The other girl was much taller than her, and leaning back actually caused Perseus's toes to lift off the ground for a breath. Stretching out on tippy-toes as far as she could manage, Perseus dropped her weight as quickly as she could manage, taking the time to jab her elbow back as well. Hopefully it would have the affect of dropping her right out of Howlite's arms.
The position they were in was too intimate and close for Perseus's liking, especially at this angle. But hey, at least she had a name. It was better than nothing.

Obviously, Perseus knew a thing or two about self-defense, something most of the senshi [and negas] had little experience in. Howlite was a trained fighter, herself, but that didn't stop the wind from getting knocked out of her. The combination of dead-weight and an elbow jab caused the blonde's grip to loosen, and she dropped Perseus entirely, rather than falling to the ground with her.
Stepping back into a defensive, ready position to recover, the captain tilted her head to one side. "So, we're back to hitting each other again? Honestly, Perseus, I thought we'd become better friends than that." Her hands flexed, again, tightening into fists.
"But if you insist..."

"You'll find that I'm not as defenseless as the little girl in the stories." Once out of the grip that held her she put as much distance between the two as she dared before dropping into her own (albeit shorter) stance. Perseus entertained the idea of throwing a kiss her way, but stopped before it actually happened. She wanted to see how well Howlite actually fought.
Maybe it was the same type of curiosity that killed the cat, but the captain handled herself like she'd had training. It was hard to find a sparring partner now that she was more advanced than basic self defense, but not studying in a particular school. She'd trained with Castor a few times, but he was often busy, and often fueled her fighting energy with sarcastic remarks. Tonight was her night to test her limits, and Howlite seemed like a willing target.
"I usually prefer diplomacy to fists, but you've caught me at an odd time. I'm curious to see if you've bit off more than you can chew, Little Wolf." Instead of allowing the taller girl to attack first, Perseus lunged forward, intending to give Howlite a rousing punch to the face. Or maybe lower. It all depended on where she could reach after all.

Perseus would be right.
Not only was Howlite going on six years of kickboxing training, she was now sparring and working out with her growing team multiple times a week. The battle in the Surrounding had shown her that the senshi could be just as merciless as they accused the Nega officers of being.
She knew what it looked like when someone closed the distance, and she brought a forearm up to deflect the blow, letting it glance off as she stepped to the side. A booted foot came up, to try and redirect Perseus with a hard kick, use her momentum against her.
"I've a big appetite."
Still, she didn't follow with an aggressive, more lethal strike. Apparently, she was in the mood for a little sparring, as well.

It was like a dance. Not like her very first fight, where Zinkenite had literally danced with her, but there was something elegant about the way Howlite moved. The kick made contact with her side, sending her twisting off to the right. Perseus corrected and twisted, leaning in with an elbow followed by a punch. It was fairly easy to tell that Perseus wasn't a match for the other girls superior training, but over a year of self defense had at least taught her to block with some consistency.
"Little wolves shouldn't bite off more than they can chew." Perseus was trying to keep it together as the game of cat and mouse continued. It had been a while since she'd sparred with someone on this level, and it made her realize how much more training she would need. Not only did she have to move on her toes, she had to think and react on them too.
Then again, she didn't really have any idea that Howlite was going easy on her either.

The elbow caused some of her breath to leave her body, though pain was nothing new, and she found herself ready for the punch, blocking it with a forearm before continuing to move closer.
"Hate to break it to you, sweetheart, but," The blonde's laugh was far from comforting, despite its warmth. "I think you're the one whose found themselves with too much to swallow." Though Howlite was certainly enjoying watching her try.
The level of skill between them wasn't a big enough gap for this to be easy, no, it was still an effort, a challenge, and the blonde captain loved that. Adrenaline was one of her favorite stimulants, and Perseus brought it on in droves.
"We should do this more often," it was too light a tone, almost flirtatious, despite the dangerous set of jabs she sent for the black-haired girl's ribs.

Perseus wasn't about to give up without giving the Captain just as much fight as she got. If anything, the adrenaline was pushing away the hurt she was feeling. The scout would feel the pain later, but for now she would fight it out. While she was a proficient fighter, it was becoming clearer and clearer with each punch that Howlite had the upper hand in skill. Several of the jabs made contact with her torso, sending sharp pains at each hit point. For the most part, they were ignored. None of them had hit her ribs, though the one that grazed where her kidney was positioned was the most hurtful of all. "Unfortunately I prefer a bit more friendly version of sparring." She kept her tone as even as possible, trying not to show the underlying fatigue. "Though, if some time you'd just like to talk, I would be open for that as well." After the jabs, Perseus backed off a little bit, breaking the close quarters fighting temporarily to circle and start fighting on a better ground. Or perhaps, not to fight anymore at all. By looking at the hungry glare in Howlites eyes, she may have been correct that Perseus had bit off more than she could chew.

"Are you asking me on a date, Perseus?" Howlite's wolfish grin threatened to light up the street with its bright, sudden flash, and she raised her brows. "You charmer." Though amusement laced her words, she didn't attempt to disguise the out-of-breath overtones that came along with it.
The bright eyed senshi moved away, smart enough to know that Howlite had the upper hand in close quarters, and the blonde became slightly more weary, despite the casual way she stood, shifting just enough to keep her gaze on the shorter girl.
"I was, actually, on my way to dinner when I saw you." A laugh, that surprisingly, didn't seem out of place. "Maybe you should join me."
Calling a draw, perhaps? One could never really be sure if Howlite was joking.

Perseus's cheeks flooded with color at the joking proposal of a date with Howlite. At least it was clear that her opposite was beginning to tire from their rendezvous as well, the blondes breath coming out as short as her own. "Perhaps in a different time and place we could be more than what we are now." Perseus meant it in the 'maybe you could not be evil and we could be friends' sort of way, but she realized that it carried more connotations than just that. Could it be perhaps that Perseus was attempting some humor as well? "Also, unfortunately for you I have other plans tonight that call for my attention. Despite our differences Howlite, I wish you well." Bright blue eyes stared into Howlite's own for a few seconds before the senshi retreated into the darkness. A few blocks away she jumped up, using a fire escape to propel herself onto the rooftop. She spent the rest of the evening contemplating what everyone would be like without the influence of chaos in the world. Perseus knew it was just a dream, but it sounded like a good one to her.
