Smiling softly Hina'ea went about his work of fixing his hair, he wanted to look his best for his lady love. That thought brought a smirk to his lips. If any one had asked him a year ago if he ever thought he'd be in love he probably would have snorted in their face and called them a wench. Ah the good old days, they seemed so far away. He preferred to be his more relaxed self anyways and Aolani liked him this way. While he had told Aolani of his ways before he preferred she never see them.

Shaking the thoughts from his mind Hina'ea turned and headed to the spot where he first met his mate. It seemed like the perfect place to can a sort of anniversary of their first meeting. Looking at the still dark sky the stallion tossed his head lightly. This sunrise would be special just as the one the day they had met had been. Pausing for a moment Hina'ea made certain his small gift was with him before he went to the spot he would meet Aolani.

Aolani snorted softly. The crispness of the air caused a small cloud to rise in her sight. The mare grinned. The change of seasons was once again taking effect and soon winter would arrive. Winter. It was a word that she associated with Hina'ea. He was the one who'd introduced the mare to the concept on that fateful day when she'd met him. It was on that day that she fell heads over hooves in love with the stallion.

Since then Aolani hadn't been one to stray too far from Hina'ea's side. They roamed the lands together. These past few days though Aolani had taken a small leave from Hina'ea's side. She'd been looking for a small token to mark the first year of their meeting and she'd found something that the stallion would appreciate. She'd also managed to find something else. The mare scanned the dark skies looking for the first rays of light. Nothing yet. She still had a few more minutes before sunrise started. She needed to pick up her pace but she didn't wish to lose the item in her possession.

Settling down in a place he thought would be best for watching the rising the sun Hina'ea let out a slow breathe. In the darkness of pre- dawn night the stallion could enjoy the deep quietness of the forest surrounding him. It was so peaceful, he loved this time to himself just like this. Darkness surrounding him, nothing but silence allowing his thoughts to roam free.

Eyes drifting shut the stallion imagined the pleasure he would feel again once his mate joined him. After a year together Hina'ea never got over just how calm Aolani could make him feel. She was so good to him, she could make him forget all his worries even his hair. Laughing softly to himself the stallion opened his eyes again and peered into the darkness around him.

Aolani could just see enough of an outline of a figure standing still. Dawn was not far off now and a little light was now visible in the eastern sky. It was enough to highlight the form of the figure and Aolani's breath hitched very softly. Hina'ea. The mare smiled before deciding to play a little prank. Slowly and carefully Aolani maneuvered around to Hina'ea's back. She'd have to be careful not to give herself away this early.

Moving slowly and trying to watch the ground below her Aolani circled the position that Hina'ea occupied. Flicking her tail softly the mare gave a quick glance behind her before closing the remaining distance between herself and Hina'ea. She now wore a grin as she leaned up against Hina'ea's side. "I've been looking for someone ... do you know where I can find a rather good looking, calm stallion who goes by the name of Hina'ea?"

Aolani turned her gaze to the distant horizon. "I love this tradition you have."

" I might know this Hina'ea, depends who's looking." Smiling softly Hina'ea lowered his head to nuzzle his mate's neck." It is the best tradition with you Aolani." Looking down at his mate he tried to make her out in the darkness, but there was not enough light. Either way he knew it was his mate who leaned against him. Not only did he recognize her voice but also the warmth that filled his heart when ever she was close. He had truly missed it in their few days apart.

" I have missed you my little dream cloud, I can not be the calm Hina'ea you know with out you by my side." Glancing around he could see the sky slowly start to lighten right along the horizon. " Almost year ago we met here under a sunrise. The sun rising and setting has always been important to me, but you have made it even more so. It seems only fitting we celebrate our year together at this very place."

Aolani let herself relax. She'd found her way back to her mate's side in time. Chuckling a little she watched the first rays of the sun streak across the sky. There were some clouds in the sky to change the colors to an assortment of pink, orange and red hues once the sun truly rose. It would be a breathtaking sight. "I'm glad you know this Hina'ea that I am looking for. Otherwise it would mean that I was lost and leaning up against a stranger stallion."

Aolani felt her whole body quiver before nuzzling Hina'ea back. "And I have missed you as well. I must be the luckiest mare to have found you when I did. You are the only one that has ownership of my heart."

The mare lifted her gaze to stare at Hina'ea before swinging it back towards the east. As the sun rose gradually a raucous cawing was heard overhead and Aolani giggled softly. So much for surprises. She let the silence grow before dipping her head to the ground and sliding something off of her neck. A rainbow-hued scarf lay on the ground and she picked it up gently before presenting it to Hina'ea. "Happy anniversary my love."

Hina'ea let a soft smile spread across his lips as he peered down at Aolani as the sun began to rise its soft colors of the night shifting from night today only enhanced the colors he had come to love on his mate. " Yes I certainly know this Hina'ea and I think he might be jealous if you were leaning on me and I was a strange. He might even kick my butt and mess up my hair. I really like my hair all pretty."

Laughing he tossed his mane so that it would brush gently over his mate. Lifting his head at the cawing he shook his head slightly, silly noisy crows or whatever birds they might be. Listening to his love then looking down at her gift his smile grew wider. " It is awesome my dream cloud, I have something for you as well." Turning his head Hina'ea lifted a small wrapped bundle from his back. Turning he set it on the ground before gently nudging the brown paper package open.

Gazing down at his small gift of a necklace with an oval stone that he held the shades of pinks, oranges and reds one might see in the rising sun. The stone its self had been carved on the front with two symbols a small sun that could be either rising or setting and the symbol of a clouds with a rainbow. " Its small but I hope you like it. I found the stone myself and had a two legger help me with the symbols. "

Aolani let out a soft giggle at the mention of Hina'ea's horror that someone would mess up his hair. She'd come to realize that Hina'ea found pride in his appearance. It didn't bother her though. It was a flaw but everyone had them. Leaning down Aolani stared at the carved stone that Hina'ea had presented her with. As gently as she could she lipped at the necklace's string before raising her head to gaze at Hina'ea.

"It's perfect. Where did you find the stone love? I've never seen one like it before."

Aolani wanted to have the necklace around her neck as soon as it was possible but things couldn't be rushed. She sighed wistfully as the sun finally emerged in a glorious display of color. A shadow on the ground caught her attention as it started to grow in size. The raucous cawing from before sounded again - even louder than it had been. Aolani smirked before pulling slightly away from Hina'ea's side. It would not bode well if her other surprise attacked the stallion.

A rather unfamiliar crow circled lower before perching on Aolani's shoulder. Its sharp gaze took in the stallion nearby before it settled. Aolani glanced towards Hina'ea with an apologetic look. "This is my other surprise my love. While I was absent this creature happened to find me."
