The Mystery of the Spooky Sightings
Running Dates: October 23-October 27/28 (The times that clues will be posted will vary. Keep an eye on the event for when Jet posts the next day's likely "start" time!)
Once again, the... Rules1. You are welcome to enter one character per weyr. This means you can participate in all three mysteries if you'd like, but with only one character in each. (I.E. Don't have your character's best friend show up half-way through the mystery just to hang out. Staff members may insert one of their characters for plot purposes, but that's for the good of the event and they will not be counted as participating members. Just plot devices.) 2. Play nicely and keep the drama to a minimum! If you have an issue with someone, take it to PMs. 3. You are welcome to refuse any prize you win if you think something you like more might come up in another game. HOWEVER, if you do refuse, the staff cannot promise you will win another prize. (It's up to chance, after all!) If you refuse a prize, the prize will go on to the next eligible person. We will not fight with you over your choice or be responsible for replacing a prize you have refused if you change your mind later on. 4. You may only win ONE prize from this event. If you win one of the grand mystery prizes, you may not win one of the firelizards or either of the other mystery prizes. The mystery prize of the other events will go to other participants. Winning a prize in the events does not exclude you from winning any prizes from the games. 5. Please be aware that these mysteries are occurring at the weyrs. This means that if you have a character living at the Harper Hall, they will not be able to participate unless you have a good reason for them to be hanging out at the weyr during the mystery. Now for the expanded explanation of how this event is going to work. This will be an in-character roleplaying event taking place shortly after the recent murder of Benden's Weyrwoman, Kestril. Periodically, within the set event times of that day, the staff member running the event will prompt the players to roll a d100 in an attempt to match or get as close to the staff member's roll as possible. This roll indicates which character gets to discover the next clue of the mystery! The person who is the closest to the staffer's number wins the point and their character will discover the clue in the staff member's next post. ( PLEASE NOTE: After the rolls are complete, the staffer will make another post, this one with the clue and the character who discovered it. In the event of a tie between two characters, both characters will discover the clue and receive a point. Do not see that you are the closest and have your character go "LOOK! A CLUE!" when you aren't event sure what it is yet. Hahaha.) There will be about 2-3 clues posted a day. Staff members will try to wait to give as many people a chance to roll as possible, but we do have to keep the event going and get those 2-3 clues in, so if you are absent for the day, you will miss the roll. Don't worry, though. There are always other days if you miss a clue or two! The majority of the event, of course, will be roleplay between the participating characters as they work through the clues and try to solve the mystery. This is a chance for your characters to have some fun and get some interaction with their fellows, after all! Clues will be posted at the discretion of the staffer. This means that after you all have had a chance to get in an intro post or a response to the latest clue and your characters get the chance to chat somewhat, another clue may be posted. (Think Hatchings.) At the end of the clues (and the event), your characters will finally solve the mystery and put their suspicions to rest. The final tallying of points will occur and the winner of the grand prize will be announced. Those players who participated actively in the event (and did not win the grand prize) will be put in a raffle to win two Halloween-themed firelizards colored by the very talented staff member running your event. So, even if it looks like you're not doing well in the points realm, don't give up hope! There's still a chance for you to win something too! Participants1 )S'koi - elfgirl1234 2 ) Set'al - Meepfur - 2 points3 ) M'lan - Revel1984 - 1 point4 ) Narissa - Kyrieko 5 ) Relys - Magnadearal - 2 points6 ) S'kiro - SilverShieldWolf - 4 points7 ) T'rel - Thaliawen 8 ) Allaxon - Team Edward Cullenation - I point9 ) Balt - Sergeant Sargent Clues Revealed so farClue 1- A strange noise resounds throughout the area as it has for the last several nights. Rumors seem to say it's louder when your near the forest Clue 2- Broken branches at the edge of the forest seem to indicate that something large has recently wandered this way. Clue 3- Wandering into the forest the trail seems to split in two different directions but a snapping branch makes everyone look to the left. Clue 4- A glimpse of something appears ahead but the rolling fog obscures the view and the 'creature' disappears. Clue 5- Splashing noises ahead but when everyone bursts through the fog and into a stream there's nothing ahead..still something must have been here not long ago and after a few moments someone spots a gouge in the mud by the far bank Clue 6- The trail of grooves on the other side of the bank seems to be made by the creature digging and searching for something. Clue 7- The trail seems to be doubling back towards the Weyr, even weirder it seems as though whatever they are following has decided to drag something with it as there's a grooved trail cut through the leaves Following the grooves trail the group enters another bank of fog and then nearly trip over an old log, an angry sounding shriek nearby seems to chastise them for it. Clue 8 - Turning towards the shriek - if your brave enough - you can just barely make out a shadow under the trees but as you approach the shadow seemed to shrink back with some clicking sounds. Clue 9 - attempt to spot the creature through the trees only to hear a sound from behind you - it seems whatever you were chasing has doubled back to get the log and taken off straight towards the Weyr! clue 10 - Playful Wher reveal, mystery solved!

While the news from Benden had certainly come as a shock, even more so when rumors began to float around dealing with Malvren's possible involvement, things at Trine had remained greatly calm - something it's Weyrleaders and Riders no doubt appreciated. There had been a few nights of worry filled thinking and greater security but for the most part life seemed to go on as per normal.
Word came through of the Bendens Weyrwomen's wake and while it was sad and some people still spent time debating how it had happened - for the most part everyone at Trine was just happy that it hadn't happened here. Which might seem a touch selfish but really it's just human nature.
Of course all that relief went out the window when people started to talk about something strange happening out by the woods, some people said they'd seen something lurking about out there in the shadows...others said they'd only heard noises but everyone agreed that something was off...and now night was falling and everyone was wondering not only if the strange creature would reveal itself...but if anyone would even be brave enough to go and look for it.

"MINE MINE.... COME ON! .. there is something out there, we should find it, then we can be the ones that found it and showed everyone, then everyone will be paying attention!!! Mine... let's GO!!!" Everyone within close distance of the dragon who decided to interrupt his evening feeding could hear the Brown, if they hadn't then certainly his flaring wings and bugle were noticed.
M'lan visibly cringed, while he didn't mind attention, Asoth was just one big show off and it was getting tiring, he always wanted to be looked at by everyone, always putting on a show. He'd been reprimanded more than once in lessons for being unable to control his dragon's 'outbursts' but despite the embarrassment, M'lan loved Asoth with all his heart and soul, and was amused sometimes. "Asoth please, you're knocking things over you're getting bigger now, you need to be more careful" he said, putting a hand on Asoth's head "I promise we will go and check out whatever it is but we have to be careful, let's wait for someone else to go with because even as big as you're getting, a Feral Wher or a feline would be more than a match for you" he said
""But MINE.... if we wait then we will have to share the attention for catching the creature, my claws are big enough and i can whack it with my tail if i need to..... LET'S GO! broadcast the Brown before turning tail and heading out of the kitchens before M'lan cold grab him and stop him.
M'lan was forced to chase after his dragon, right out of the weyr and to the outskirts of the woods, where Asoth had stopped, waiting for him. "ASOTH.. don't you DARE do that again......" he yelled at the dragon before catching movement in the woods, it could have been anything from a wherry to a flitter but M'lan moved closer Asoth "We need to wait for others, because you left in such a hurry, i forgot to grab a Glow" he whispered.

Relys didn't know if he should be amused or concerned. The rumors flying around the weyr about something in the woods was worse than the caravan's old ladies gossiping around the fire at night. Why hadn't someone just gone to check it out? They had the dragons didn't they? He looked down at his two, blue companions. One wher, one flit. Well, if no one else here had the courage to go look, they would. After all it was part of his duties while the caravan camped at the weyr.
All the reports he'd heard had been very vague. Too vague to even guess at an identity. Shadows some said; others heard noises. Relys doubted it would be felines, so Relysk wouldn't freak out on him. Everything else they could handle. He whistled to the waiting pair. "Nald, search." He waved his arm at the wooded expanse. Together he and the wher followed the flit into the woods.

We should find this thing everyone is seeing, Mine. Pipith had been insisting incessantly, and had now even woken His up to bother him about it again. Eventually, he knew, Set'al would get tired of the prodding and give in - besides, the man was curious, and his dragon knew it. We will find it first, and tell everyone what it is! And thereby 'win' in this particular situation...or else get themselves horribly mauled, but the little bronze was sure he was far tougher than anything that might be skulking in the woods.
Alright, alright. His reluctance for the sake of caution finally toppled, the tall bronzerider got dressed and headed out to investigate with a glow in hand and his dragon stalking along behind him.

M'lan and Asoth stood by the woods when noises behind them made M'lan start and turn swiftly, his eyes adjusting to the change between the gloom of the woods he'd been looking at, to the twilight behind them.
"MINE MINE...LOOK.... another dragon.. he's one of Ours, it's ok.. he has a Glow, he can help!!" Asoth bugled a greeting to the bronze and His, he almost hopped on the spot in excitement, yes he might have to share the attention but he and His would be the first Weyrlings to find the creature, the grown ups were just supervision.
M'lan hailed the rider, in the dark he couldn't tell if the dragon was bronze or brown, so he wasn't sure of who the rider was just yet, the glow in the other's hands obscured the features in light so M'lan was forced to squint a little "Hai! Rider, It's M'lan of Brown Asoth here, we came to investigate, i guess that's what you're here for too?" he asked loudly.

Allaxon stood at the edge of the woods and stared into the dark depths. Hmm voices. Did the creature talk, he didn't think so. He craned his neck around a nearby tree trunk. "Oh hey guys! Are you checking out the creature sightings too? May I join you? We may have better luck as a group."
Allaxon glanced into the forest again but saw nothing. He left his post and meandered over to the others.

S'kiro was heading back from washing Neptanth, when both their eyes turned towards the woods. "Mine! Did you see that?" S'kiro turned to his blue, "I seen something, but I am not sure what it was." The young rider seemed to think it wasn't a creature that he had ever encountered before.
They walked closer towards the woods and found out that there was a group there and a couple of other dragons. Unsurprised, a gold flit landed on S'kiro's shoulder. She chittered at him, showing an image of a shadow moving in an area she had been hunting for food. "Neptanth, can you call the other three to come here? I believe we may need them around."
The blue crooned out and it seemed the work training the flits with him paid off. As the last note left, two blue flits and a brown flit popped in, landing on the dragon. S'kiro gave him a pat on the shoulder and moved into the group some more. "It seems we are looking for the same thing. Shall we split in groups or stick together?"

Asoth was getting worked up, no one was paying attention to him directly and so was making more of an effort to be noticed, hopping from one foot to another, wings flaring, his neck raised and his eyes whirling. Suddenly there were two distinctive 'pops' as two of M'lan's flits emerged above the dragon. Snow and Zing, the brown and the bronze settled on Dragon and rider respectively, The spotted flit on the spotted dragon and the Bronze on the shoulder of M'lan "oooooh yay! my friends.. but where is Mal?" asked the Brown of M'lan. "Probably back in our bunk happily stuffed and asleep, she's got sense, for a Green, now will you be quiet please, you're making so much noise you're going to scare whatever it is out there, away" he reprimanded, though he was amused at how hard Asoth was trying to be noticed. The brown was amusing sometimes and he was glad that Snow was there to pay attention to him, the two spotted browns were well matched, things worked out pretty well and t was nice that both his Browns were almost matched, at least in spotted markings. M'lan nodded to the blue rider but Zing hissed and arched, forcing M'lan to put a hand on him "Easy Zing" he murmured, the Bronze not liking to share His with others, but he was getting used to it, the bronze being his newest flit, aquired after his Impression to Asoth. "Groups might be better, a large party crashing around in there might scare whatever it is, off... if Asoth hasn't done that already" he chuckled.

S'koi and His had not been far off from the young brown's shouts, and both had paused in their activities to observe the gathering happening at the forest's edge. It seemed that they were looking to find whatever mysterious creature had been sighted recently. Perhaps we should watch them from afar, the greenrider suggested, patting his dragon's hide affectionately. It was best to make sure that no one got into any sort of trouble.
We will tread quietly, Laith agreed, nuzzling her rider lightly before turning her eyes back onto the gathering group. They would not be noticed in the woods if they did not wish to be. They were barely noticed on a daily basis as it was, and her hide blended all too well into the surroundings. The cover of night would only aide them. Do you need a glow, Mine?
I have one here, he answered, stopping to pick up the basket. For now though we can simply follow the light of theirs. They would wait until the others had departed before following after.

"Set'al and Pipith," he provided to the loud pair, the Candidate, and the other young pair who showed up in quick succession. His manner was friendly enough, but he was clearly still rather sleepy. He rubbed his eyes as he lsitened to the Weyrlings. Was he supposed to be an authority figure in this instance? He really didn't want to be.
"It's probably safer to stay all together, in case it is something dangerous." Pipith was big enough to be intimidating (if not to other metallics), but a couple of baby dragons wouldn't be much of a deterrent to anything that might be lurking out there.

((Everyone please roll one d100 with your next post))
As the brave gathered near the forest...and others hung back somewhat uncertainly the last light of day had quickly fallen by the wayside bathing everyone in the shadows of the forest. Rustling in the woods seemed amplified in the darkness although this could easily be chalked up to nerves given the situation.
Nothing odd seemed to be happening quite yet but most of the rumors everyone had heard seemed to say that the oddity's started shortly after dark fell in full and a tension seemed to fill the area as both hunters...and those who hadn't been quite brave enough to come out waited in their respective area's for something..anything to happen.

Mine.... Miiiiiiine, if we all stay together like Pipith's wants we won't be the first and we won't get all the attention for finding out what it is!! whined Asoth, joined by a creeling Snow while M'lan stood greeting the sleepy bronzerider.
M'lan sighed and hung back, he would get no peace unless he helped Asoth be the centre of attention and, to be honest, the idea of being the ones that figured out the noise first, was rather a good one but he didn't want to go against the older bronzerider, even if his bronze was the smallest in the weyr, he'd heard of Pipith, a capable enough dragon despite his size. The way Asoth was growing he rather hoped that his Brown was going to be bigger than the smallest Bronze in the weyr, that would certainly entertain Asoth.
He waited until the others began to move off, hopefully they thought he was taking the rear because of the excitable Asoth, before moving off on his own with Asoth. "If you hear or smell ANYTHING though Asoth... you call for Pipith right away! alright?!" he grumbled to Asoth, his glow turned low so he could see out into the gloom without being blinded by it's light.

Narisa wasn't sure about this. Was it wise for them to go out towards the woods and see if they could spot whatever this mysterious creature was? What if one of their dragons got hurt! Though maybe having a group together would be a little safer? Maybe. But shardit, she couldn't deny that she, like everyone else, was damn curious as to what this creature was! Still a little hesitant to be out here, but as Cepheith had informed her, there were others already out here.
There. See? We will not be alone out here. And there are plenty of us dragons plus a wher to protect one another. The young queen assured her rider, eyes bright as she watched the group they approached.
<Are you sure? It's kind of late for us to be out here...> Her hand rested against the golden hide that was a comfort to the goldrider. But Cepheith was correct. There were others out here and Narisa had to admit she felt better knowing that she and her dragon wouldn't be the only ones. That didn't stop her from being a little on the jumpy side when things moved, or from sticking very close to her dragon.
Greetings. Cepheith spoke kindly to all. Have any of you caught sight of whatever it is yet? Narisamine and I would like to assist in discovering what it is.
