It just boiled his blood to think about it. How was it possible that he hadn't heard for such a while after? There had been another attack by the same accursed feline that had gone after him, his mother and Hayagriva. What bothered him about it was that this time she had gone after his sister. If he didn't know that the cat was trying to mess with Haya he would think that his family really was cursed.

He paused mid-stride then slowly set his foot down to the ground. He glanced to the spikes protruding from his hind legs and though he could not see them he could feel the enlarged fangs that grew from his mouth. He scowled, adjusted the fur he had swiped from humans and resumed his hasty pace. All things considered they probably were still cursed in some way, regardless of the cat.

He had come this far based on what the herd members had told him when he had finally bothered coming out of his hole to interact with the others. It had been a bit of a slap to the face to hear bad news right off the bat and it hadn't taken him long to get his barrings and run off to find her. The question now was: where exactly was she out here?

"Shri!" He called as loudly as he could not caring to keep his voice down. He looked like a monster. It would keep most away from him and anything else he could take care of. It was in his blood. "Shri!!!"

Shrivatsa nosed around in the scrubby clump of weeds she had found. She was currently looking for feverfew but wasn't having a good time of it. Whenever she thought she found something that looked like it it turned out to be something else. So far she hadn't stuck her face into poison ivy like last week but that didn't mean it wouldn't happen now.

She was happy that Regulus was giving her more challenges and freedom. He wasn't looking over her shoulder while she collected anymore. That made things more difficult but more rewarding when she came back with large bouquets of herbs twisted into the ropes that decorated her. She had once even woven mushrooms into her braid when she couldn't think of another way to carry them back.

She nibbled a leaf then made a face. It tasted awful, but not the right sort of awful. It wasn't what she was looking for. Her mind was starting to wander, too. She thought back to when she had been a foal and a similar experience she had with her brother Phala. She had taken a bite of something bitter and spent the next half hour spitting it out of her mouth while Phala laughed at her. She smiled a little to herself. She could almost hear Phala's voice if she concentrated...

No, she could hear Phala's voice. Her head shot straight up from the clump of weeds and she stared around her in shock. What was her brother doing out here? Had she accidentally tasted something that was making her hear things? "Hello?" she called, voice both tense and hopeful. "Phala?"

As he called for his sister he wandered completely unwilling to just stand still and hope he was heard. Even if his ran his voice hoarse and couldn't shout anymore he wouldn't give up. Conveniently he didn't even have to call more then a few times before he got a response. His voice caught in his throat causing him to croak slightly instead of calling again when he heard it. Eagerly he turned his head and cleared his throat to keep from croaking again.

"Shri?" He called back starting in the direction the call had come from. It sounded like Shri and really who else would respond with his name? No one out him would know him except for her. "Shri, where are you?"

He looked about wildly keeping his eyes peeled for his dark-maned sister. If she was near enough to hear his voice then she was near enough that he'd be able to spot her shortly. Unless she was hiding. She better not be hiding from him.

There was no mistaking it now. Somehow Phala had found her. Unexpected joy made a lump in Shrivatsa's throat and she was bombarded with a sudden rush of homesickness. He had come to visit her. She was torn between wanting to rush to him to tell him all that she had learned and wanting to withdraw into herself like she usually was around the herd. She had been away from everyone she knew for so long. She had changed but didn't know how they would react to it, even her own brother.

"I'm here," she called, heading toward where she heard him. "Here!" Nervously, she wondered whether his arrival might bring unpleasant tidings. It was a rather strange thing to happen. She hoped he didn't have bad news about their mother. She gulped. Even with the strained relationship she had with her mother, she would be devastated if anything happened to her.

Finally she emerged and saw him, standing in his dark pelt looking just as she remembered him. "Phala..." she murmured softly.

Phala jerked to a sudden halt when he finally caught sight of his sister. She looked the same. Same bright green eyes. Same dark hair with the light bits. Same stained pelt. More importantly than that, however, was she still had four legs, two fuzzy ears, two eyes, a tongue to speak with and a head. She was still in tact and it didn't look like she had sustained any major injuries.

"Shri..." He frowned and marched towards her closing the remaining gap between them. "What happened? I heard there was an attack." His almost impossibly bright green eyes darted about almost as though he was expecting something to jump out of thin air and attack them right that second. "Those...!" He snarled taking in a deep breath finding himself at a loss for an appropriate insult for the herd. "They didn't tell me! That stupid cat! I'm going to kill it! Send it right back where it belongs and wear its skin instead of this one."

Phala somehow doubted the herd would allow it. It felt good saying it all the same. He wasn't about to stand by idly and just let it attack his family. His family that mattered. His brother and sister. "It won't get away with this."

Shrivatsa froze. She saw anger in her brother's eyes and didn't immediately know where it came from. Her first frantic thought was that he was angry at her for leaving the herd and would come and drag her back. Something like that would have been very much out of character for her brother, but she had no idea why he was in such a state to begin with.

Even when he started talking she wasn't quite sure what he was going on about. When he said 'cat' she finally caught on. He was talking about the skinwalker attack. Her heart fell when she brought herself back to that dreadful day. In the days that passed after she hadn't gone running around to every errant herd member to tell them what had happened. Apparently she hadn't even told her own brother. At the time she remembered that she just wanted to forget about it and get away from the place it had happened. That was one of the reasons she had decided to take a break from the herd for some time.

She really hadn't thought about how it would affect Phala when he finally found out. She hunched up guiltily. "I thought you knew... somehow. It was... I just didn't want to talk about it after."

His fury died off fast than a flame in a rain storm. He hadn't been trying to upset his sister. She was his sister. She was important. One of the two important creatures on this world. Phala's scowl was replaced by a frown that could only be described as awkward. Slowly he shook his head.

"No one came to tell me." While it was true that he wasn't necessarily the easiest creature to get to it wasn't like he was in total isolation. What he did could barely even qualify as hiding. He always went to the same places, they were just a bit removed from the main gathering areas. "It wasn't until I went to them that I heard..." It was his turn to feel a bit guilty now. If he lived closer he would have known sooner.

"But...what happened? Are you alright?" He couldn't help but think back to the severity of his own wounds. It had been a long recovery. It didn't seem like their mother had ever fully recovered not that he was entirely sure what he was basing that assessment on. It wasn't like their mother had ever been normal. Just like them.

Without his anger he was the brother she remembered once more. She didn't pay attention to his awkward tone, she was too relieved that the moment was over. Considering that Phala had his own near deadly encounter with Samsara and other skinwalkers, Shrivatsa knew that she really should have made sure he'd gotten word. At least there had only been one skinwalker when she and Adagio were attacked.

But the story. He wanted the story. "I'm... fine," she started, though she sounded less than certain. "I didn't get hurt besides a scratch and Amitabha healed it up as soon as I was back. But Adagio..." She gulped, shut her eyes briefly, and continued. "Adagio and I were going for a walk because..." The context didn't really matter for the sake of the story, so Shrivatsa left it out. "Well, we were walking and Samsara was in the bushes. She attacked Adagio and..." Her body grew tense as if she was back in that moment. She remembered Adagio screaming and the smell of her blood. She could still see Samsara's eyes boring into her and that stare had featured in many of her nightmares since.

"Samsara attacked Adagio and..." Suddenly, she couldn't find the words to continue.

He was relieved to know that his sister hadn't really been hurt. "Adagio?" He knew of the mare. Vivace's sister, one of them. It wasn't that he didn't care what had happened to her, skinwalkers were nothing to take lightly, but he couldn't manage to feel the same level of concern for an almost perfect stranger. All he really knew about that family was they were the "beautiful people" of the herd. He'd run into Vivace a few times and he was every bit as air headed as he looked. If that family had been attacked he couldn't say he was surprised.

"She attacked Adagio and?" Phala knew she was alive. What her condition past living was he hadn't bothered to ask. He hadn't even asked who the other involved in the attack was before heading off. He just wanted to know about his sister.

"What happened?" It wasn't forceful. Shri was still visibly upset by the incident. He wouldn't force the issue but he did want to know. He hoped the a little coxing was all she needed because there was no way he'd push.
