Mary had been home all of a week. That had been enough time for her parents to look at her funny, for her roleplays to be all caught up, and for Mary to not once become Bifröst. She'd been hastily enrolled in a new school, tossed a uniform at, and ferried to and from school, all with her mom denying anything had happened out in space, and that Mary was crazy.
Tonight, her father had gotten her mother to go out with him and leave Mary in peace. He'd planned a short noticed trip to who knows where and told Mary that she had the house to herself until Sunday, and to not use the stove for anything but pasta.
Mary had had no intention of staying in the house for the weekened. She found herself in the clothes she wore as Bifröst, sitting in the park sometime after dusk. She sat on a swing and just stared at the sky. She'd definately been up there, no matter what her parents said. She'd fought a space whale, and books, been killed by a dragon and brought back to life and fought some more. There was no way she'd been missing in some alleyway for six weeks.
The Page of Chronos started to swing back and forth, watching the night sky.

Camelot, Squire of Earth, was walking through the park, patrolling as he often did. It had been easier than he thought to get into routine once again. working in the library, patrolling at night. He had a lot less time to sleep and do anything like have a private life, but that was fine. He didn't mind just focusing on his two jobs, as it were.
He saw the knight sitting nearby, feeling their aura. Moving toward her, he offered a small smile.
"Hello, there," he said, recognizing her outfit as the ones that had been awakened in space. That had been a crazy time, fighting the dragon, and doing everything they could to save those that needed them. It all worked out in the end, but it had been close for a long while there.
He stood nearby, watching her curiously.
"Are you on patrol? I saw you, I think, in the Surrounding. Or maybe someone dressed like you. You're one of the Chronos knights, aren't you?"

She sensed him before he spoke. It was an odd feeling, sensing his power, what made him tick. He was like she was, but more powerful. Bifrost looked down from the sky and gave him a smile. She moved off her swing and faced him, bowing low at the waist.
"I am Bifrost Page, Knight of Chronos, sir. And no, not... patrolling, as you say. Simply getting out of my parents house for a while." She gave him another kind little smile in her way and sat down on the swing.
"Though... you are a Knight as well, correct? What... is it that we do? I never really asked... given the Surrounding brought me back to life and all I wanted to do was smash the Dragon Who Attempted to Kill Us All in the face. For killing me." She looked at him again, motioning to the swing next to her.
And she hadn't asked the other knights, all of which except Celsus seemed as clueless as she was. She hadn't really stuck around long at all after the party; getting home was more important at the time.

Camelot watched her, tilting his head to the side. He was surprised she bowed, as that was usually something he did that caught people off guard. The tables were turned, and he smiled. Chivalry was nice to see, whether she intended it as such or not. He always had a thought in the back of his mind that he might be being teased.
He was pretty sure he wasn't right now.
"I am a knight, yes. A Squire, of Earth. I learned that there were a few knights awakened in the Surrounding, it's nice to meet another one." He remembered that dragon all too well. It still made him feel guilty, thinking about that fight. He thought he had been able to fell it, with the help of all those fighting against it, but it had only come back even stronger.
He couldn't help but feel some guilt, though it certainly had not been his fault.
"Well, I think most knights discover what they need to fight or defend, what they believe in. I defend lives. Civilians, senshi, certainly other knights. Even those lost to Chaos. I believe there is a way to end this war without the casualties we're facing now."
He stood nearby, knowing he'd probably have some kind of ridiculous accident if he sat on a swing. Especially when he was trying to look sagely and knowledgeable.

She wasn't fazed when she didn't sit down, just started swinging slowly back and forth again. He was very sagey for a squire. The Page of Chronos spun her rings around her fingers as he spoke.
"You defend the lives of those who set a dragon on us? What do others think of this?" she asked, mostly for information sake. Bifröst had no idea what it was she was supposed to be doing, and apparently she was to find it on her own. Then again...
"Camelot, sir... I know of the senshi and the miltary suited ones that fight against them. Where do we fall in that spectrum? Are we good, bad, neutral? I know I serve my Princess and her court, but beyond that, I'm not sure," said the girl. She realized that might come out as her asking the same thing again, but it was really the only way she could ask.

"I don't suppose they like it very much," Camelot laughed, nodding his head at her point. He understood what she meant, but he didn't see it in the same light. He shook his head, watching her as she used the swing.
"The Negaverse are the military suited ones," he said, before considering her question. He smiled. "We don't have any chaos in us, and I don't think it's in us to actually fight along side them. We're like the White Moon senshi, the Zodiacs. But as for our place in the war... I think we're kind of a third party. So far, knights have been making their own decisions, but I see us as a means to end this war without letting the senshi and negaverse wipe each other out. My duty, anyway, is to life, like I said, and to those you can't defend themselves."
He moved to sit down on one of the free swings, trying not to fall over. It had been a while since he had even sat in one.
"So you can call us good guys, but it's your heart that tells you what to do: your duties are to your princess, you already know that. What do you feel you are?"

"What do I... feel I am?" she repeated softly. Bifröst glanced up at the sky, eyes closing for a moment. She was Mary, Argabauth's Roleplayer. She was the crazy girl who was awkward in her skin.
Beneath that... she was... she was...
"The Gatekeeper of the Bifröst," she said suddenly and with complete conviction that that was the single one truth in everything. It surprised her for a moment, but didn't at the same time. The girl frowned at herself.
"I know... deep down that is what I am... but I don't get why I feel that way. How can I know that I'm the Gatekeeper and always have been... but never have even known about it before?" she asked him, still frowning at the sky. It was so strange, feeling in such a way. So very strange.

Camelot watched her with a warm smile on his face. It wasn't an easy question, but it wasn't meant to be. He knew that powering up was difficult, and understand came in time, but instincts made up most of their job, their capacity for great feats, and he never doubted the importance of turning to instinct and what one felt was right in times of crisis. Or, like now, in times of reflection.
He looked surprised by her answer, then nodded his head.
"Because you have a power in you that's been passed down," he answered logically. Sometimes he felt like he was talking more than he knew, and yet other times he realized he knew more than he gave himself credit. He was always listening, always learning, and he understood. "You are one in a line of protectors, of Gatekeepers in your case. You were born with the power inside you, and when you needed it, or those around you needed it, it was brought to you. There is a lot you will discover about yourself, but you shouldn't be afraid. You have people who will always be glad to help you, allies in the strangest of places, and more strength then you realize at the moment."
He smiled reassuringly, bright and warm as ever, his green eyes shining.
"Believe me, I didn't know what I was doing when I started, and I still don't know too much, but my friends and fellow knights, the senshi as well, are my allies. And now, I'm yours. If you ever need help, I am at your service."

She nodded as he spoke, it made some sort of sense to her, even if she really wasn't understanding fully what it was that was going on. She bowed in her seat to him, hair spilling over her ears.
"I thank you Camelot, sir. I've pretty much been just wandering around in these clothes at night, to be honestly. Just to do so. I find it... fun." Bifröst gave him a smile again and spun her ringer around her fingers.
She wondered if he was an older man in his civilian life. He looked like it, but she didn't want to be rude and ask about it. There were some things best left unknown.
"So, on a typical night, what do you do, sir?" she asked him after a moment.

Camelot smiled and nodded his head. He couldn't blame her for that. He sometimes did the same thing, just powering up for the sake of it to see what he could do, or to have a little bit of fun. He used to go out and do reckless things as a civilian, to remind himself he was still capable of them, but now he mostly stuck to leaping off rooftops and breaking up fights.
Mostly.
"Well," he said, looking thoughtful, "I usually go on patrol. I'll look around an area for any youma, or any agent of chaos out draining energy, and try to stop them. But I don't much like fights, and if I can I try to avoid them. I'm not... usually successful. Still, I try. Anyway, if I see anyone in any kind of trouble, I usually try to help."
The knight rubbed the back of his own neck.
"In my eyes, life is the most important thing. Just... fighting to keep people alive, to end this war between dark and light, pure and chaos. That's what my team and I try to do, at any rate."

Bifröst nodded at him. She pulled out a small pocket watch from beneath her and checked the time. It was getting late, and just in case her parents came home early, she probably should start heading home. She inwardly sighed; she rather liked talking to Camelot. Perhaps it would happen again.
"Hmmm that sounds like a good way to do it... Anyways, I should start heading home. My mother will pitch a fit if I'm not home when she wakes up," or comes home to 'check up' on me, she said to him, keeping the last part in her head. She stood from the swing and gave a full bow again.
She offered him her hand.
"It was a pleasure Camelot. Would it... be okay, if I asked you again sometime about being a Knight?" she asked him, giving a small smile.

Camelot nodded his head. Curfews. He, at least, didn't have to worry about that. Not even his son cared where he was all night. His dog did, though.
Dogby cared.
"Certainly," he said, offering his hand, "I will help you with whatever you want me to help you with, I mean it. If you're confused about something, please. I'm usually around the library, at least at the start and end of my patrols. I shouldn't be too hard to find."
He chuckled.

"Very good to know, sir. Thank you for the company tonight," she said, shaking his hand. She smiled at him and then bowed once more. Bifröst turned and walked off into the shadows of the park with a little skip in her step.
It had been a very good night, yes it had.
