Kakumei was playing by himself by the stream that day. He wasn't too far from the herd so doubted his parents would mind. Elder Haya said that it was safe around here so this was one of the places he liked to go. On the way over he stomped every mushroom he could find. That entertained him for a while and now he was trying to learn how to skip stones. It was something he had seen humans do and he hoped to be able to copy. So far he wasn't having any sort of luck.
He picked up another likely looking rock and heaved it into the relatively still water of the small pool in front of him. It hit the water with a splash and then sank into the clear water. He frowned. That didn't work. He didn't think he could grip the stones with his tail but holding them in his mouth wasn't working either. He was stumped.

 Luminary was used to being left alone in the nest, well, she wasn't REALLY alone. Her father and sister slept during the daylight hours most times and they were curled up in the part of the nest covered by shade. She tiphooved out of the nest and looked around with joy at the wide world she could explore, mom was out getting food, she wouldn't be back all THAT soon. She took off happily into the sunny forest, nearly skipping. She loved nature, she loved exploring new things and meeting new friends, how could she POSSIBLY do any of that if she were cooped up in the nest all the time? Silliness.
She broke through a line of cork trees when she heard a distinct splashing noise from just a bit ahead. She flicked her ears towards the sound and picked towards it. She knew there were bodies of water around here, her mom took her to drink there quite often. She peered over a wild blackberry bush and gawked. There, slinging stones into the water was possibly the pinkest colt she had ever laid eyes on. She cheeped in surprise and peered around the bush " Hallo there!"
