A white mare was settled in the fields of the open grasslands underneath one of the shade trees. Her red mane was flowing gently in the wind as her silver eyes gazed across the lands. It would seem as though she were at peace, but her mind was jumping with excitement. Chara was coming to see her. Again. She had spent the whole day and night with him a while back when he came with her to visit her human companion and their home. She hadn't heard word from him since then, but word had been sent through Dark that he was coming. The mare had been patiently waiting since she got the news too excited to eat or drink and afraid that she might miss him.
Her silver eyes gave a gentle glow as she turned her head to stare toward the sky. It was getting closer to sunset and then the cool, night breezes would be about making it very cold. She was too far from Dark's home to go back in case of bad weather, but she was sure that the forests would be bound with places where she could hide. The mare couldn't help but yawn as she was starting to grow tired. Nailiah didn't want to close her eyes for she didn't want to miss Chara, but what use would she be if he got here and she was too exhausted to even keep her eyes open much less speak? She snorted gently curling her legs underneath her body as well as settling her head down curved against her torso. She'd risk taking a light nap quite confident that Chara would call her once he saw her here. Her eyelids closed gently, her breathing slowing into a gentle rhythm as she began to dream of the stallion again. That's often where she found him most of the time, and it made her wonder if he ever thought of her while he was away. Did he have anymore travels? Did he see any amount of wondrous things? In the back of her mind, she always wondered if maybe he had found another filly to call his own, but who was she to stop him? Nailiah would be a bit heartbroken for he was her first crush...it would deal quite a blow to her ego for she already considered herself a plain mare with nothing to speak of save for her eyes and maybe her flashy red mane and tail.
But apparently Chara saw something in her. Maybe that's why he was coming back? Or maybe he was coming back to say that he would never come back? Nailiah's anxiety slowly turned into worrisome nightmares as she slept on falling harder and harder into sleep.

When Chara first sent word he was so excited that most of his journey back he cantered or galloped. Before he got to their meeting spot he had bathed in a river nearby, hoping to be nice and clean for her. However, as he neared their meeting spot he couldn't shake the idea that maybe she had found someone else, or had lost interest in him. He put the thought from his mind, even though it nagged at him as he set eyes on her beautiful figure. smiled as he saw Nailiah slumped over sleeping. He quietly walked up to her and laid down next to her. His nose brushed up against hers as he reached up and brushed the mane from her eyes. "Good morning sleepy head!" he said gently as he smiled at her. He hadn't seen the mare in a long while.

Nailiah had almost jumped at the touch, her bangs falling over her eyes a little which made it even harder to see who was trying to speak with her. But at his voice, she realized who it was and calmed slightly though her heart was still beating rapidly in her chest. Her nostrils flared taking in his scent further calming her. "Is it really morning?" She asked rushed looking around to see if she had slept all this time. Yet the sun was still setting and he probably meant it as a phrase more than the actual state of time. The mare gave a bit of a cough looking at him again. Nailiah blushed as his nose brushed back her forelock from her eyes causing them to meet. Her ears went back against her head as she pulled away a little more out of embarrassment than anything else. "Hey Chara..." Nailiah whispered keeping eye contact with him, her blushing evident. "It's...really good to see you, again." Nailiah was careful to smell him for her own insecurities for she was still convinced that he had found someone else. Well, there was only one way to tell now.

Chara was taken aback when she pulled away and pushed her ears back. He was hurt at first then almost angry. He stopped to think why she might be acting this way. He soon realised that she was probably just as worried as he was about the possibility that he may have found another. He calmed himself and began to talk "I'm sorry Nailiah that I have been away for such a long time. I got word that the humans who killed my parents and tried to do the same to me had resurfaced. I also heard that they had taken up their old ways and more azrein were being harmed. I could not wait to tell you because my informant told me that they would be moving soon. I had to go and get them. To get revenge for my parents and to save all the other azrein they would hurt." he cleared his throat, knowing that his story was farfetched but he hoped she would believe him. "When I found them they were shoving a colt only a few days old into a crate too small for him so that they could 'sell' him. I was so disgusted that....well that's not important. I took care of the humans as fast as I could. When I was finished I sent word to you that I was coming back." if she did not believe him he had cuts and burns to prove that he fought with humans, even a small brand on his chest was still visible through his dark coat. He would never tell her how horrible the fight had been, or how the colt had been forever scarred.
"I'm sorry for leaving you alone, and I don't deserve to be forgiven." he said as he stood up. He snorted and looked down at the mare. Can she forgive me? Will she even believe me? he thought to himself as worry spread across his face.

The mare saw the anger on his face and opened her mouth to defend herself from meaning harm, but Chara beat her to it. He was speaking so fast that she didn't know what to say. It took her a little while to process all the information he was giving her. She did remember him talking about his parents briefly and his extreme hate for humans. As he explained what happened, her eyes widened with not only fear but shock. What did he mean he 'took care of the humans as fast as I could'? Nailiah began to fear the worst - that her Chara was a killer. She stared into his eyes then his face noticing the features of pain. Dark flashed in her mind for a moment, and immediately she was worried for her Chosen's safety.
However, as he stood to leave, she got up shortly after keeping close by. "Chara, you have to tell me what happened. You have to tell me what happened between you and the humans. I have a human Chara, and I have to take care of her." Nailiah was hiding nothing from him as she expressed what she felt. It was true that she took care of Dark, and it would be the end of her if Chara did something to her human. But what would happen to Nailiah if she let him go over a fear? The mare was torn in two between the love of a stallion and the love of a friend. Her eyes mirrored those feelings as she forgot to keep careful around him. Nailiah really needed to know.

Chara held back a refusal Of course I wanted to kill them Nailiah, but I didn't and I would never admit he thought to himself. "When I found them they were beating this colt, shoving him into the crate. When he fought back they took their hot branding iron from the raging fire they had made and hit him with that until he was crammed into the tiny box. When I stepped in to break him free the second human grabbed his hot branding iron and they came at me. I turned my back to them and kicked on of them in the chest, the second human went for his rope to restrain me. I turned so that I could evade the rope but he jammed the hot iron onto my chest." he stopped only enough to gesture to his chest
"I had alerted a few azrein that I knew nearby that I was going to free the azrein they had captured. I wasn't trying to get caught in the middle...but...when he burned me I lost control and kicked him over. I stomped onto his foot, I'm sure I broke it. I think the others went to get the police, the humans that keep the peace because right then they brought the police to the camp. The humans had to talk me down before they took the men into custody. With a swift kick I snapped the box that contained the colt, hoping to help him, but he took off." he sighed and laid down. Thinking about that night tired him out, physically and emotionally. He laid his head down onto his legs and looked into Nailiah's eyes. She didn't believe him, and he knew that she couldn't. Those Azrein were days away and even if they did back his story up would she believe him then? He looked away, his eyes welling up with tears. She would never believe him or trust him around her chosen. She would leave him alone in the forest tonight for sure.

Nailiah stared at him hard as he recited his tale with more detail this time. She could see the passion he had for wanting to save the poor, badly beaten colt. Even to herself, Nailiah could see herself trying to free the colt, but not the way Chara did it. The male was strong and valiant - that she loved about him - but his actions and ways of taking revenge were going to eat at his soul. He may change overtime making her view of him change as well. She would have to adapt to that...
As he continued on, she withheld any comments or outbursts (for she was sure to have some) until he was finished. It broke her heart to see him collapse on the ground obviously beaten up by it in so many ways. Chara was still angry and bitter about humans, but what would it take for him to understand that not all were like the ones that murdered his family and attempted to take his life? Her feelings were in a turmoil as she lowered her head in an attempt to think. Carefully, the mare ambled her way around Chara so that she could lay next to him on the side closest to the tree. She flicked her head up a little so that the long mane of hers could lay over him as if in the form of a comforting blanket. Her tail flicked over his and for a moment she remained in that silence between them just thinking things over. She dare not catch Chara's tearful eyes, but she could feel his hurt and misery.
Which was strange. She wasn't supposed to feel anything other than Dark's feelings so why was she feeling Chara's? Her ears perked forward a little giving a bit of a snort more so to clear her mind. "Chara.." Nailiah began slowly looking over to him. "I understand you did what you did...and I consider you a valiant male for doing so...but to lose yourself like that in a fragile situation...it was a wonder that the humans didn't keep you there and marked you as mad. You could have been killed for what you did and killed during." Her silver eyes were full of anger and a bit of fear as they too began to well up. The mare gave a brief whicker lowering her head on the ground feeling physically tired. "Just...promise me that whatever happens now with humans...you'll try to have an open mind about it. You'll try to take the diplomatic approach instead of going the angry violent way. If you have to go all out and attack them to free other azrein, just...do it so that you'll come back safely." She moved her nose to nudge his shoulder. "I don't think we'll be able to patch you up if you keep hurting yourself. You'll never heal that way." Nailiah raised her head to stare into his eyes as if making her words clear. Very clear.

Was she forgiving him? It seemed like she wanted to still be with him. He sighed and leaned into her soft side, his head heavy with thoughts and worries flying through his mind. He nodded, he knew Nailiah was horrified for her human. He actually didn't mind Dark, the short time he met her she was kind, albeit a little tactless. She had fed them, and obviously brought food for all the azrein daily. "Alright. I think I'm done traveling for a while" he said. The trip had been spur of the moment and he had missed Nailiah the whole time. He would never admit it but during the fight all he could think of was coming back to Nailiah. He yawned and stretched as he stopped leaning on the beautiful white mare. He went to say something but quickly closed his mouth, not sure of what to do or say next. He could tell Nailiah was upset and he didn't want to make it worse.

"You think so? Or are you just trying to be sweet with me." The mare teased her stallion nudging his cheek with her nose. Nailiah was feeling a little better, well a lot better than before but she was still worried about their current predicament. What was their situation anyway? A simple couple with a one time tryst or something more? Nailiah couldn't say as she managed to catch a glance at Chara. "What?" Her silver eyes stared toward him with a no nonsense gaze. "Tell me, Chara. You should feel free to speak your mind to me..." 'Especially if we are going to continue...whatever this is' The mare thought pushing the uncertainty to the back of her mind.

Chara cleared his throat and pondered how to word his question before he went and opened his mouth. "Nailiah, I think you are the most beautiful mare I have laid eyes on. Besides that you have one of the most vibrant and wonderful personailties. I don't know how you feel about me, but when I'm with you my heart flutters. I...I never want to be away from you again. If my trip taught me anything it was that I can't get you out of my head. Do you feel the same way?" he was quiet and did not fully expect an answer right away. As a matter of fact he was afraid that she would stand up and walk off, mares did not like to be put on the spot sometimes. He didn't want to upset her but he needed to know so that he could act accordingly.
If she did not wish to be with him then he would respect that but would ask to stay friends and perhaps she would grace him with a visit every once in a while. He couldn't just keep assuming or dancing around the fact that they hadn't talked about their 'relationship' before he left. Since he had come back he still felt the same way, but wasn't sure if Nailiah did, he had to know.

She stared at him as his words flooded from his mouth. She wasn't sure if she was ready for such a barrage of feelings, but she did indeed ask him what he wanted to say. Chara was confessing his feelings to her, and well..it was awkward. The mare had never been put in this situation before, especially by a stallion such as he...
Nailiah took in a breath simply staring at him, her eyes distant in thought as they glowed dully. Was she really ready for this step? Did she need more time? Nailiah slightly chewed on her lower lip as she looked away from him for a moment before back toward his waiting eyes. "Chara..." She began trying to use her words carefully. "I do care deeply for you. So much. But we need time. We need time to figure out not only our own minds to heal our wounds as well." And she meant that. She was hurt that he ran off without notice and for the reason he gave, it didn't make things any better for him. She understood, but that's the only sympathy she would give him. The mare nudged his cheek gently with a bit of a sigh. "There's been a lot going on...we should probably just rest. Are you hungry?" Her head tilted, red mane cascading against her body as she gave him a compassionate stare. She only hoped he would understand...

Chara nodded and sighed. Did she just reject me? No....but she didn't say yes either I don't think. God mares are sometimes hard to understand The stallion tried to hide his dismay as he stood up. "Yes I am rather peckish" his voice was steady but soft. He looked down at the ground and watched his hoof crush a few flowers as he began to look for a good patch of grass.
He tried to hide a few winces as he favoured his left hind leg, his right hind had been sore since the fight. He leaned his head down near the small stream that flowed through the forest. Suddenly their first meeting came rushing back to him and he had to lay down to keep from either crying or passing out. He was tired, he hadn't slept since his task was finished. He sighed again and took a drink before standing up. He reached down and tried to hold back the memory of her laugh, he was afraid he wouldn't hear it again. Had he harmed their relationship to the point of no return?

Nailiah watched him carefully after she admitted her true feelings. She didn't mean to hurt Chara but to her, lifemating was serious. It was a permanent bond, and for them to come together after this stressful time...Nailiah didn't think it would be right. As much as they had spent time together before, she still couldn't forgive him just yet for his personal vengeance quest, and leaving her out in the cold.
The mare flicked her ears watching his mannerisms. At first she thought he was taking it all right, but then he seemed to just fall on the ground right by the river. Nailiah didn't know whether to be worried or curious. She doubted Chara was the type to see attention, that was for sure, but there was just something odd. Nailiah continued to watch him for a little while longer before she whinnied out to him. "Come. I know it is early in the day, but you obviously need rest. We will go find something to eat later." She gave a gentle smile toward him in hopes that he wouldn't still be sore emotionally. "Your wounds need to heal anyway. Moving around so much probably won't do you any good." The mare took a breath watching him from her spot on the tree nested in quite comfortably. Their situation would be a little awkward if only for now.

Chara nodded and finished his mouthful of grass before he walked over near the tree. He laid down gently, leaning on his left leg and stretching out his right leg. His heart was heavy and his eye lids fell quickly. He laid on his side, something he didn't do often around anyone else and quickly slipped into a deep sleep. As his heartbeat fell into a slow rhythm the stallion breathed in the scent of Nailiah and a smile spread across his face. Her figure appeared in his dream, then her face and the sound of her laughing.
He slept for some time before he awoke abruptly and looked around. His wonderful dream had turned into a nightmare. Nailiah had gone away and he was doomed to look for her for the rest of his life. He tried to catch his breath as he searched his surroundings for the mare.

Nailiah watched him as he slept before she rested her head on his neck falling to sleep herself. It pained her to see Chara go through something like this. As they rested, she too dreamed of Chara, but instead he left her for his revenge quest all over again. Promising this would be the last...but in her dream he never came back.
Nailiah opened her eyes to find him still sleeping. She felt incredibly thirsty and rose carefully to catch some water from the stream. Nailiah watched him sleep for some time as she drank and graze until he finally awoke with an upstart. The mare cooed toward him giving a gentle whicker. "I'm here, Chara. Calm yourself." She stood near to the stream watching him with her silver eyes.
