He was returning back to the herd he belonged to in hopes of catching Briallan in order to speak with her about Ali. He wanted to know if she had any clues as to where she'd gone. The fall season was upon them now and he knew winter would just be around the corner. The grass in the clearing was starting to dry and give way to the colder temperatures that were creeping in. Soon it'd be the time when foal's bellies went empty and herds banded closer together to take care of one another.
He glanced to the sky and sighed a gentle sigh. His search for Ali would have to hold off until after winter if he didn't find her soon. Stopping, he looked around more focused now on his surroundings. he was stalling just a bit longer in the hopes that he'd see movement in the tall grass.. any sign that might peek his hopes of finding Ali before the winter.

The sun was significantly lower then it had been the last time that Cai had glanced up at it. No matter how much Cai wished that time would stand still, at least until he found enough food. With night approaching so swiftly, Cai knew he would have to give up on his search for filling food soon enough. Sighing softly to himself, the small foal turned his attention back to the ground before him. He had been hungry for quite some time, the dry grass doing little to fill the empty space in his stomach.
Flicking his ear's Cai glanced wearily at the sun once more before moving though the tall grass. Maybe he'd find some better food in another area of the open ground. Keeping his nose close to the ground, Cai was oblivious to anyone that may be around.

It was then that Silo's eyes caught movement in the grass ahead. His ears perked . Slowly, he moved ahead to see what was moving. Too small to be the one he was looking for.. perhaps a rabbit.. or even Idonea's mischievous raccoon coming to check in for her. Shaking his forelock from his eyes, he lowered his head some. "Coming to find Nea, Binky?" Sure he hadn't seen that tell tell sign of rings of bright pink and white on a fluffy tail but with that raccoon.. one never could count on such a sign. His voice was soft, warm, deep. a thick rumble that matched his own size.

Cai froze as the voice washed over his ears. His head jerking up to look around wildly. At the same time he took a hesitant step backwards. His breath coming in shallow pants, he was frightened. As his eyes moved around the area he was in, his gaze fell upon the massive form of the stallion approaching him. Eyes widening, Cai took a few more steps back. Would this stallion hurt him? He hadn't really encountered too many other's in his never ending search for food. However grabbing hold of the small amount of courage still in him, Cai answered. "H-Hullo..?"

As soon as the foal came into view, a goofy, lopsided smile formed on his face. "Ah.. my apologies.. I thought you were my daughter's familiar." He nodded in greeting and lowered himself more to the foal's level by laying down in the grass. He was so tiny.. never had he seen something so small.. not even Briallan's foals and one of them was fairly small out of that bunch. "Are you lost little one?" He seemed to tremble from the tip of his nose to his rump even just laying there. So tiny... delicate looking foal.. he couldn't help but to worry that he might accidentally hurt the colt some how if he stood too quickly. " I assure you.. I mean you no harm."

His eyes widened more as the stallion lowered himself towards him. He was so much larger up close. Cai had yet to run into any of his kind since he had emerged from his basket. Craning his neck upwards, Cai stared at him. His ears drooped slightly at the question of if he was lost.
His gaze dropped to the ground as he shuffled his feet, shifting his weight from side to side. "Don't know, papa never came back" His voice was soft and melodious, with a hint of sadness. Almost like a lullaby on the wind. His cheerful nature however returned to him, as Cai realized that Shilo meant him no harm. His eyes seemed to dance with the happiness that was slowly moving through his veins. He seemed nice nice, maybe he had seen his father somewhere?
Flashing Shilo a bright smile, Cai glanced around the grass. At least what he could see of it. He was always on the lookout for anyone that could be his father. Then again he had never seen his father so maybe Shilo was his father?

His grin dropped from view as his forelock flopped back into his face. "He never came back? Perhaps we can look for him together do you know what he looks like? Or his name maybe? I'm Shilo by the way..." His heart melted at the plight of the little foal.. how would his daughters have fared had Masika and he not been there for them when they were growing? One thing was for sure.. if this foal's father didn't turn up.. he wasn't about to see him suffer the winter only to become easy pickings for the wolves.

"Pleasure meeting you Cai.." He trailled off noting the foal's grumbling stomach. "How about you follow me back to the herd grounds for something to eat? I'm sure they'll have plenty to share, after all they're usually gathering in a bit of a supply to use to warm their dens or nibble on when the colder months get here. How do apples sound?" Slowly and carefully, he stood up. "And if we can't find your father.. I'll take you in. I'm sure my daughter won't mind having a little brother to look out for.. that is if you like."

Cai gave a short nod accepting the offer to head back to the stallion's herd. "Apples?" Cai had never had an apple before...were they good? Scrambling back a few steps as Shilo climbed to his feet, Cai had to crane his head back even more. Shilo sure was tall. Shifting his weight side to side once more, Cai froze at Shilo's other offer. He'd be his papa? Cai sure would like that. Nodding once more to accept the otehr offer Cai however had to voice his concern. "You'd want me..?"

Shilo blinked a bit at the last comment. "Why wouldn't I? You seem like you've been on your own for a while and really.. I couldn't see a foal fend for himself. My family and I have a happy life and are more than happy to share the happiness. Another addition wouldn't really make any negatives you see. Though I'll warn you now.. Idonea, my daughter, is deaf.. she had an accident as a filly and lost her hearing so she can sometimes be forgetful of personal space boundaries..." Careful not to step on the tiny colt, he started back towards the herd, careful not to walk so fast that Cai's stub little legs wouldn't be able to catch keep up with him.

Caigave a small nod. "alright" and proceeded to trot in the direction that Shilo had chosen. .
Glancing up at Shilo as he followed him, Cai flashed him another grin. He was curious as to what the future was now going to hold now that he had found someone. Fate and time were not interested in telling those particular secrets just yet.

Shilo smiled as he made his way towards the edge of the trees. What would Ali think when he finally found her again? last time it had been two daughters.. and this time he might just have a miniaturized son to present to her. He couldn't help but to shake his head some, stifling a chuckle. "It's shouldn't be too much further off. The herd rarely moves much from these areas, and this open area has been more of a commons space than anything for the other herds in the area."
Some how, he had a sneaking suspicion that Cai would be sticking around permanently. He made it a point to point out to the small colt key things to let him know they were going the right direction. Soon it wasn't long before they reached an apple tree and close to a thicket. Reaching up, he plucked a few of the juicy apples from a branch and brought them down for Cai. "Be careful the seeds.. they can make you sick."

Cai gave a small nod, making sure to take note of everything that the larger stallion was pointing out. As the apple was placed before him, Cai peered at it curiously. He hadn't really had any apples before that hadn't been rotted out. Craning his neck downward, Cai sniffed at the apple before proceeding to take a small bite of it. His eyes widening as the taste of a fresh apple hit his tongue. This was delicious, nodding to Shilo that he had heard him, Cai quickly took another bite of the fruit.

Shilo smiled warmly. He was glad to see that the little colt was seemingly enjoying the fruit. "Let me know if you'd like more." He said looking up at the tree branches and pondered if the herd would have more stashed away some where in a cool den. The leader was crafty but that grand son of hers was craftier. For some harebrained ideas, they definitely seemed to be very useful in helping the herd.
