Good Evening Sisters,
I have a question- have any of you had experience with herbal birth controls/emmenagogues? I'm not keen on taking anything my "Professional Health Care Provider" wants to give me..and I don't know how to go about finding a more natural minded Doctor.
experiences and stories welcome!

Honestly, Not Having A Baby is not something I would trust to herbs. BC pills have side effects for some people, but they also have a proven rate of success that has only ever been marred that .1% by women taking them incorrectly and getting pregnant due to it.
I have heard that the sweetener-herb Stevia has "unintended contraceptive qualities", but I highly doubt that it is effective enough to truly prevent pregnancy, just slightly lower the chance. That is the only plant-based thing I have seen, and I came across it by accident.
A non-chemical, non-ingested form would be a diaphragm, if you are only concerned about your body's reaction to what is in the pills. Maybe you could use one, along with some sort of natural spermicidal stuff, and some herbal form of birth control on top of those. Together, they might add up to a comparable prevention rate. Definitely be very cautious about trusting people with your uterus's well-being (and solitude) without carefully documented research! Definitely do a lot of careful googling before you trust this important part of your life to someone.

Thanks for the well said advice, of course you're right to do as much research as possible. I'm not totally against birth control, it's something I'm very grateful we have in our lives; even though I won't take it, I'm glad the option is there for others.
I don't think I could ever truly only rely on an herbal method..that's too risky, of course it's good to still practice with condoms/spermicide/morning after etc.
I'm thinking more along the lines of condoms + caution + ___ herb
I've heard rumors about neem tree being a useful spermicide for male and females; a pill form for men, and a cream for females. I'm extremely interested in this...if it's any plant, neem makes sense.

I'll just tell you what we do in our household: We use fertility awareness. My body has very obvious symptoms when it's fertile, concerning mucus and stuff in the lady bits. Me and the hubby abstain during those periods. If you can get it right, it is as accurate at prevention as the pill. You may be able to combine this with prophylactics (we cant because he's in-tact with a long foreskin so they dont fit him right). We've been using the FAM for years and we still only have the children we purposely had (since you can also use it in reverse to conceive)

Strega Mama If you can get it right, it is as accurate at prevention as the pill. If you get it wrong you can end up with a good size sports team worth of kids- just ask my very Catholic Grams.
