 The beautiful sun was giving way to night as it began to sink behind the horizon. Zoey was always more active at night and decided to go exploring. Her choice of exploration this time: the forest cave. Making her way through the forest, she followed familiar land marks she had been memorizing for quite some time now. This cave was kind of scary looking and she had always wanted to explore it but never had enough time or courage to do so. But now, she had finally gathered the courage needed and began to seek out the cave.

 Desmond had spent most of his day sleeping, unable to get himself on a regular sleep schedule that worked out with the rest of the herd. Someone was always calling his attention and wanting him to do something for them at all hours of the day. It wasn't very often that he actually got to enjoy himself and the life that going on around him. Not that he really minded. In fact he liked helping others, but sometimes he did feel like he was missing out. He stretched out his body, wings outstretched to each side as he stood up from where he had been laying underneath a small cliff face near the ocean. Desmond hadn't made the firm decision that this would be the place he would sleep the previous night, but looking out at the ocean now he was glad that he had. "It's just so pretty!" He said with a large grin.
"I feel.... hungry." He said with a dazed look on his face as he turned his head to look at his belly. "Off to find food!" Desmond yelled, his body going into a regal pose as he declared it to the wind. With that he shoved himself off the cliff, catching the wind under his wings and then carrying himself up into the air. As he flew back towards the greater herd he decided to change his course because a peculiar sight crossed his line of vision. Heading towards what it was, the closer he got he began to realize that it was a dark pelted mare with a dark grey hair that reminded him of his friend Valdien. Then he noticed what appeared to be blue markings on her back. "How pretty." He said to himself as he floated down closer to her. Just as he was about to say something the mare walked into a large cave. What was she doing going in there at this time of night? And alone? Worried for her safety Desmond landed on the cliff face and folded his wings. With cautious steps he followed her into the entrance. "Hello there!" He said loudly to her, making his words echo off the walls of the cave. "That was amazing! Did you hear that?" Desmond asked with a large grin.

Startled at another's voice, Zoey whipped around on her hind foot to see a handsome looking stallion with wings. She winced as his words bounced back at them. She looked wearily behind her, this cave gave her the chills and she suddenly wondered why she had chosen to come here alone. Zoey nodded her head jerkily, "I heard it. It's almost like the cave is talking back, don't you think?" She asked him. Zoey looked around a bit more, "Don't you get an eerie feeling from this cave? I've been wanting to explore it for quite some time now, I've just never gotten enough courage. Would you like to go with me?" She said timidly. Then, remembering her manners, "Oh! I'm sorry! My name is Zoey," She dipped her head in a small bow, "What is yours? If I may ask."

Talking back, well that was certainly new. Desmond contemplated this revelation for a moment. "Well I suppose it got lonely." He said as he looked around the cave for a moment. Dark and confined spaces were not his friends, that he was certain of. As he looked back at the female he smiled the best he could. "Caves always give me a creepy feeling. I don't like being in confined dark spaces." He blushed lightly. It was common for males to be the strong and protective one's however, Desmond was really neither. "My name's Desmond." He grinned, his wings twitching with excitement for just a moment. "Nice to meet you Zoey!" Desmond paused. "Do you explore these caves often alone?" He asked curiously.

"Nobody likes to be lonely, I guess, not even a cave." Zoey said with a smile that slowly faded when she saw his reluctance to go in the cave. "I understand. Caves are pretty creepy. Pardon my asking, but, do you not like confined places because of your wings?" She asked shyly. When she saw his blush, she felt even more attracted to him, guys didn't always have to be the 'strong ones', they had feelings too. "Its nice to meet you as well, Desmond. That is a really nice name." She said with a blush. "I don't normally unless I watch it for a while first to make sure nothing scary lives in it. But this cave is different...I get a very weird vibe from it. Maybe I should follow your lead...maybe this cave isn't safe to explore." She said worriedly.((I changed her color XD lol ))

As she spoke about him being scared of confined spaces because of his wings, he lightly shook his head. "I just don't like them because you never know what dark and evil things lurk within it's dark depths." He said with large puppy dog eyes. Desmond found that his heart warmed in his chest when she said his name was nice. Was it really that nice? No one had ever told him that before. A smile crept over his muzzle as he looked into her bright blue eyes. He nodded a bit at her next statement. "I'll protect you miss." He replied, his grin growing a bit more. "Well is it a good weird vibe or a bad one?" Desmond's smile faded a bit from his muzzle as his eyes grew in size. "Caves can be very scary." "But I think we may be just fine." Desmond said with a gulp, although not loud enough to cause worry to her.

"I know what you mean. It...I don't like how this cave makes me feel. Its a bad weird vibe. Maybe there are some dark, evil things lurking in there." Zoey took a few steps towards him, "You do seem like the protecting type." Her eyes batted flirtatiously. "For some reason, I get the feeling you don't want to go in that cave." She teased. "But I don't blame you. I think I feel these weird vibes for a reason. I don't think we're supposed to go in there." Her expression saddened a little, now she had nothing to do for the night! Zoey walked more out of the cavern, looking up to the beautiful sky, it always seemed to make her feel more comfortable.
"I-I think I'm lucky." She said suddenly. "I think I'm lucky you stopped me before I ventured in that cave. So, thank you, Desmond." Her voice was sincere as she looked at him with a smile, her eyes twinkling.

Desmond blushed at her compliment. Was he a protector? This idea and possible revelation baffled him, which wasn't hard to do. "I will venture into it's dark and scary depths for you." He said with a loud, joyful voice, still oblivious that she was flirting with him. He certainly wasn't one to notice things that were suggested. Not that he wasn't intelligent, just extremely naive. His body shifted so that he could look at her as she exited the mouth of the cave, unsure if she still wanted to really go in or not. "You're welcome then kind miss." Desmond responded, trotting up next to her with more jump in his step then was needed. Noticing her mood had changed a bit Desmond outstretched one of his wings so that it could wrap around her body, and then finally pulled her in close. Hoping this would both comfort her and shield her from the cold night air that was beginning to descend upon them. "Would you like to go somewhere else? Or try to make it through the cave?" He asked with a smile, trembling slightly at the idea of going back in the dark cave with who knows what else could be in there. But he decided, no matter how scared he was he would do it for his new friend Zoey, if that was what she so desired of him.

Zoey wondered if her flirting was noticed, she hadn't had much interaction with the opposite gender. She decided she would have to try harder to be noticed. It surprised her when he put his wing over her, it was surprisingly warm and comforting. Zoey leaned into the comfort, when her flesh touched his a shiver went down her spine. Their slight height difference worked here as she was able to fit comfortably under his wing. Though he made his brave offer of going into the cave, she felt his skin tremble, letting her know he really didn't want to go back in there. "No, no, its ok. I don't really want to go back in there." Zoey tentatively nuzzled his neck, wondering how her affection would be received. "Though I'm not sure where else to go." She looked away shyly.

He found himself a bit caught of guard by the nuzzle Zoey gave him, but he happily accepted it and even nuzzled her back. He liked the warmth she generated under his feathers, and found himself pulling her in more tightly. "Alright then!" He boasted, now unafraid. "Hmm.... That's very true." Perplexed he thought about all the places he had been since arriving in the Kings land. Which wasn't very many. That's when he got the perfect idea of where they should go. "I've never been to the forest just outside of the herd lands." He said, meaning the forest that was in the opposite direction of where the six lands would be located after some great distance of walking. He had known that land as the six had come to his homeland and destroyed it and enslaved or killed all that resided there. "Would you like go there?" Desmond asked trying to come up with some idea's for where they could go. "Unless you have another idea in mind. I would gladly go there." He nuzzled her again before looking at the night sky.

Zoey was surprised to feel her nuzzle back. Maybe he felt the same way about her. "I have never been that way before. Is it pretty?" She asked, trying to make conversation, she stuck close to him, lending her warmth to him and the other way around. "I don't really have anything else in mind, so if you would like to go to this forest, I will willingly go with you. I-I would like to spend more time with you." She looked up questioningly at him. Zo couldn't stop looking at his beautiful green eyes and violet/brown markings. They seemed almost enchanting to her, like they were drawing her in and she just couldn't resist. But who would want to resist? She asked herself as she allowed herself to give in.

Desmond shrugged his shoulders as he turned his gaze to her. "I've never been that way either. I honestly wouldn't know." He said trying to imagine in his mind for a moment just what it would look like, but found himself unable to see anything but a massive barricade of trees and bushes. "Then the forest it is!" He exclaimed with excitement. His body jumped one small leap away from her, his legs moving restlessly beneath him. Once again not realizing what she meant he replied. "I would love to spend more time with you my dear Zoey." Desmond grinned as he placed the tip of his wing's feathers on her back. With that he turned himself slightly away from her and towards the path she had used to come up the mountain face to where the cave was located. "Let's go find some pretty flowers!" In desperation he yelled out into the night air, hoping she was the kind of girl that liked flowers. He certainly did. But what if she didn't? "Or pretty rocks." He suggested, turning once again to face her, waiting for her to start the decent down the mountain.

Zoey giggled childishly. She couldn't help herself when she was around this strange stallion. "To the forest to find pretty flowers and rocks!" She shouted happily. She pranced tauntingly in front of him, only pausing for a moment to look back at him before prancing on some more. She honestly didn't know what to do, he was sending her mixed signals so she didn't know if he was returning her feelings or just thought of her as a friend. Her mind exploded trying to figure this out, there was one way she could figure it out, but she wasn't sure she was ready to go to that extreme yet. "Just don't cheat and fly there without me!" She joked. She kind of envied his wings, she wondered what the sky would look like from that height, what the trees and the ground and lakes would look like. Her mind was working in over drive as she tried to process her feelings and day dream at the same time.

He happily trotted after her, listening to her as she talked to him. "You like rocks?" He asked with a large grin, now walking beside her. "And flowers?" It was a miracle he had guessed them then. As they walked, thinking she wouldn't notice Desmond took the opportunity to look her over close up. He found himself almost hypnotized by the beautiful and intricate blue design that covered most of her black coat. The blue certainly looked good with her black base, and her hair matched well too. She was beautiful, of that he was certain. "You're beautiful." He said, still smiling but trying to be somewhat serious. He had seen that there were a great deal of mares that seemed to not realize just how beautiful they were. But Zoey definitely was beautiful, and he wasn't just saying it to be nice.
"Your pelt and designs work very well together." Desmond continued, still smiling. He was trying to compliment her, but he found himself unsure of how to get the words out the way he wanted to and for her to understand them. After all, he had found a life long friend in her. Or at least he was sure he had. Desmond wanted to make sure she knew that she felt just how special and beautiful she was to him. After all, Zoey was his second friend in the whole world. He needed her.

His confession of her beauty stunned Zoey, forcing her to stop. She turned around to look at him, mouth slack with shock. No one had ever called her beautiful. "Ye-Yes I love flowers and pretty rocks. And I-I thank you." She was unsure of what to say. "I'm not sure of how to say this, but...I feel so different when I'm with you. It's like from the moment we met, I could relax, and be myself. When you say I'm beautiful, I believe you, without a doubt." She smiled nervously.
"I'm glad that you think I am beautiful though, because I think you're quite handsome yourself. I find myself day dreaming of your wings." She admitted honestly. "To me, it seems as if we have met long ago, like we're long lost friends. I know that sounds silly...what am I thinking..." She muttered the last bit to herself. Stupid, stupid, stupid. She thought, mentally running her head into a tree for sounding so foolish. I bet he thinks I'm dull now... She looked away awkwardly, afraid she had just ruined everything. She began to shuffle her hoof through the dirt of the mountain path, awaiting his reply. Which she was sure was going to be an excuse of how he had to go suddenly.
