Hobbies: swimming -- Blocks away from the rich home Prosper shares with his family there is an outdoor public swimming pool. It is a popular afternoon destination for many of the children in his neighbourhood. Prosper doesn't go there. There is a bigger pool in his backyard, where he has spent much of the last seventeen years of his life. Prosper has been swimming since almost before he could walk. He zoomed through lessons, and positively blossomed under the tender instruction of his teachers. Now that he's older and capable of dealing with more responsibility, Prosper has become a lifeguard. When he's not studying and participating in track meets, this boy is most easily found standing watch over a pool full of rowdy teenagers at the (unfortunately) public pool, or (kindly) warning small children against wandering too far from the shallow end.
track and field -- While Prosper prefers backstrokes and breaststrokes to long jumps and shot-put, he is naturally very competitive, and doesn't like to be idle. A slender build, long, powerful legs and all of that time spent swimming make Prosper an ideal for competitive running. He is quick, light on his feet and often finishes in the upper tier. Long distances races are his specialty. Prosper also enjoys pole-vaulting, but this has less to do with skill than it does with the fact that he gets to handle a long stick and
sort of fly through the air.
pampering himself -- Prosper's hair is luscious. His complexion is smooth and his teeth, in the right light, positively dazzle. He does not come by these things naturally. Prosper likes hair conditioner, bleaching his teeth and cucumber facials. Looking good takes a lot of time and energy. Fortunately Prosper's mother has money to spare, and who better to spend it on than her adoring (and only) child? He has six credit cards. None of which actually belong to him. All of which he uses.
Virtues:Seemingly Self-Aware -- Calm, soft-spoken and perpetually polite; Prosper radiates with a quiet sort of self-assurance. He does not speak a lot, or often, but this has less to do with being shy than it does simply being himself. Prosper may not know a lot, but he believes he knows himself, and he likes who he thinks that is. While neither rowdy nor especially wild, this inner acknowledgement of both his virtues
and flaws (as he sees them, mind!) shines through the surface in the form of (what appears to be) an almost unbreakable confidence.
Deviously Charismatic -- Disregarding what might almost come across as a friendly, if reserved, disposition, it would be a lie to call Prosper a people person. In his case, ease and confidence have given birth to an arrogance that is tolerable at it's best and contemptible at it's worst. Fortunately for Prosper this flaw is subtle, and hidden within his tendency to keep his thoughts to himself. Prosper is civil with everyone, kind to people he especially likes, and cruel to no one. He is a cautious boy with little reason to be cautious-- a thoughtful pretender. A (considerably harmless) tiger whose rolled himself in tar so that the panthers can't see his stripes.
Pompously Forgiving -- Prosper is a young man whose made a point of becoming familiar with his own shortcomings, and accepting them for what he believes them to be. It isn't false modesty or self-degradation. It is, he says, honesty and applicable also to the other people in his life. Prosper knows that he isn't perfect. Prosper makes mistakes. He may not always like people, but he is very capable of forgiving them for who they are. This, however, doesn't mean he wants to be friends with whoever they are. He feels
bad for homeless people, and might even toss a quarter into a jar every now and then, but this has more to do with pity than any true compassion. And, yes, to Prosper actually
being poor is a flaw.
Flaws: Dim-witted Manipulator -- Prosper is arrogant. Prosper is driven. Prosper almost never leaps before he thinks. The trouble with this is that he doesn't think
well. Prosper wants things, and Prosper knows how to get them. This is true only because he knows how to weasel money out of his mother, and he has a wallet full of her credit cards to prove it. This has given him a false sense of his own capabilities, and means that Prosper sometimes very pompously, although quietly, tries to manipulate people into doing his bidding. But he's sort of stupid, despite having figured out that it is better to keep your mouth shut if you don't have anything nice to say, and not very good at exploiting people.
Me, the Jury -- Prosper appears to be confident and self-assured. Due to his generally affable temperament and tendency to let people be themselves, without harassment, Prosper might be easily mistaken for a laid-back back, open-minded fellow. The truth is that he just doesn't
care. First impressions are very important to Prosper, who usually has a person summed up and slotted into one of three categories ("stupid," "poor," and "worthwhile") within moments of meeting them. He is judgemental, and does not really give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Once he's made up his mind about someone, Prosper doesn't expect them to behave otherwise and is, thus, easily fooled, or played, or surprised. This makes him very vulnerable-- susceptible to his own vanity and the whims of far craftier, wiser creatures.
Insecure -- Spoiled utterly rotten and occasionally in love with himself, Prosper is Prosper's own first priority. The tragedy of this is Prosper knows he is nobody else's first priority. Underneath all of that pomp and make-up, Prosper knows that he is a difficult person to like. He is selfish and vain, but inside of that there is a hopeless romantic who loves himself so much because nobody else does.
