A bronze and a green flew high above Ista, carrying the Weyr's newest arrivals, three transfers from Fort. Cami held tight to the bronze rider's stomach while she gazed down at the scenery below. It was only the second time she had ever been on dragonback, and the first time she felt the cold shock of between. Looming over the coastal landscape was the rocky cliffs of Ista Weyr.
Azimuth, would you inform them of our arrival? T'nus asked as they approached. Of course. After a slight pause, the dragon continued. It is acknowledged. It seems they arranged to have a weyrling meet us to show us around. T'nus informed his companion of the same, while Azimuth simultaneously relayed the information to Xenith. "Doesn't that sound nice?" Lavi said, both to Xenith and Cami. Just point me towards the lake and I'll be fine. I could use a bath.
Once landing was cleared, the pair banked and swooped towards the bowl. Xenith back-winged until she touched down like a feather falling to the ground, while Azimuth landed with a whomp behind her. T'nus jumped off his dragon energetically, and offered a hand to Cami as she climbed down.
The weyrleader is asking for us. Azimuth informed him. Perhaps we could do this later? T'nus tucked his riding gloves into his belt and sighed. No rest for the weary, he always said. "Alright, let's go." Xenith conveyed the information to Lavi, and she nodded. She gave the girl an encouraging pat on the shoulder. She had only been at Fort a few weeks, but Lavi had already grown fond of her. "Why don't you look around for us, and you can tell us about it later?" Cami nodded and gave a mock saulte. She waved silently as the adult riders flew off, leaving the two teenagers alone.
Cami shuffled her feet. She was a little awkward at first. Until recently, she had lived alone with her family, so she wasn't used to meeting new people and often didn't know where to start. "Um, hello there. I'm Camilla, but just call me Cami.." She seemed about to say more, but at that moment she looked beyond K'lstar to who was standing behind. She gasped and her face lit up. "Is that your dragon?" she asked. She ran over to admire him, the moment of shyness gone. "Oh he's beautiful! And so small! He must be a baby. I haven't seen one so little before. How old is he?" She looked over to K'lstar.

"Welcome to the Weyr Cami," Kelstar bowed. He grinned as she focused on his dreagon. "Yes a few days old he is, fresh out of the shell, hey Jedith?" K'star glowed with pride. His dragon! His blue, now and forever!
Jedith hummed and rubbed his head against the girls leg.
I like her mine, she smells nice.
K'star raised an eyebrow, "He likes you, he says you smell nice." He shook his head slightly, "Well at least it was a compliment," he grinned. "I owe you a tour of the Weyr my lady, neverfear we will be dragon escorted the entire way. And after if you like, you can help me oil him, he likes it and tries to stay still but he is ticklish and cant help but wiggle once in a while."

Cami giggled as the blue dragon nuzzled her legs. She instinctively reached out a hand, but hesitated and looked to K'lstar. She wondered if touching someone else's dragon was like petting a stray canine. There was no way to know how they'd take it. But finally, plucking up the courage, she reached out and scratched him on the top of his head, above the eyeridge, as she'd seen many riders do.
"Well, I'm glad he likes me at least!" Cami laughed. She didn't know what to say about his other comment. "He'd be my first friend that's a dragon!"
"You said his name was Jedith?" she went on, "Oh, but, I didn't catch your name?" she realized, embarrassed that she'd forgotten to ask. "You said he's just a few days, so you must be new to being a weyrling, right? What's that like? Was it hard being a candidate?" she questioned. At some point she stopped and put a hand over her mouth. "Oh, sorry, I'll stop talking and let you give the tour now."
She nodded emphatically at his suggestion. "I'd love to help. I've never oiled a dragon before." Well, that went without saying! But Cami loved anything that was new. Until recently, her sphere of experiences was relatively small.

"My name is K'star. I liked certain parts of being a candidate, mostly the learning about dragons part. Other things like changing glows were dreadfully boring, but as you can see," he pointed to his now humming dragon, "it was most definitely worth it." Jedith got a slightly smug look on his face, okay so it was more then slightly smug.
As the girl agreed to help oil him, the dragonet ran around her legs in his excitement. He loved being oiled! He was very careful not to tip her over as she was not nearly as sturdy as (he assured himself) his Kelstar was.
"Yes well, as you can see this is the Weyr bowl. And over here is the hatching grounds. Only recently emptied as testified by said dragonet," he grinned at his blue who had all but glued himself between Cami and him. "If you put your foot on them they should be warm still, go ahead and try, you might as well get used to sweaty feet as hatchings seem to take FOREVER, well unless you are one of the first chosen at that point you don't care at all how hot your feet are." Kelstar paused to scratch the itchy healing wound on his leg.
Jedith crooned at him.
I'm sorry I didn't get there in time mine.
"It's okay Jedith, it was just a scratch."

"Well, it's nice to meet you, K'lstar. And you Jedith." she added, nodding to the dragon. Cami followed along, listening as K'lstar explained the different parts of the Weyr, and what it was like being a Candidate. "I don't know much about dragonriders or dragons," she admitted, "But I know they protect people from thread and that's a good thing." She thought about her family being caught out in the thread. It was possible that a dragonrider could have seen them and saved them. She didn't miss them much, but she hoped they were safe at least.
As they reached the Hatching grounds, Cami went ahead and tested out the hot sands with her foot. They were indeed still. She wondered how long it would be before they were hot again. When would she get her chance to Stand? It mattered little to her. There were still so many new things she could experience as a Candidate, she knew it would take a long time before she got bored. She grinned at dragon and rider, who seemed to be having a moment. It must be nice, to have such a constant companion.
Speaking of, Dusk popped out of wherever he had gone between, and stealthily coiled himself around her shoulders. He was shy when meeting new people, so he had disappeared when they arrived at the weyr. Cami gave his head a little scratch, but continued talking to K'lstar. "So where were you before here?" she asked. "Did you live in Ista?"
