"Easy, now," Howlite's voice was low, more soothing sounds than words, as she reached out to flick on a light-switch in the darkened house. It bathed the surprisingly clean living room in warm light, and the blonde didn't waste time in assisting her friend to the comfortable, if unfashionable, sofa.
The decor was more that of a family home, rather than a bachelorette pad, and for good reason. Kess had never gotten around, in the past two years, clearing out the stuff from when it'd been her uncle's house, before his death.
Downstairs, of course, in the basement, you'd find a beat up futon, the television and gaming systems, a microwave, a mini-fridge... Up here? It looked like actual humans lived here, not teenagers.
Still, there was no one else. The house was silent, other than the hum of the fridge and various electronics. Alunite had teleported the two of them to Kess' house, before leaving [somewhat reluctantly, really], and now Howlite was briefly glancing over General Fluorite.
The hours between the battle, and ending up here, had done wonders for her, since they had encompassed receiving medical attention and energy, on top of the speedy recovery all powered individuals possessed. It was sort of amazing, really.
Now, her uniform was unnecessary, and the blonde powered down, soon in just the white tank and low-slung, faded blue jeans she'd been wearing prior to entering the Rift.
Kicking off her shoes, she thumbed toward the stairs. "There's rooms up there you can crash in, but if you don't want to have to go all the way up, this sofa pulls out."
Now... Where the ******** was the spare bedding?
"You hungry?" It was a casual question, as she wandered into the kitchen herself, yanking open the fridge door and peering inside. "Beer?"

At least powering down hadn't ripped her damn skin off. Through, with Ashley's clothing - an old t-shirt Kess would probably have remembered seeing her brother in, as well as old, faded jeans and sneakers - only made the wounds all the more easily seen. The angry red sploshes on her arm, where the senshi of metalcraft had sent liquid metal crashing down. That burn was nasty, really, covered in blisters that threatened to break and pop at any moment.
The rest was smaller, though made up for that fact by the sheer number - along her arm, all along her back, easily seen at her neck, where the senshi of wildfire had caught her into an inferno of ********." Ashley hissed, following Kess carefully. She really didn't stop to ponder the oddness of her friend's living place - she'd have imagined, well, something more akin to her brother's apartment.
But really, with the adrenaline gone, with Metallia's fire no longer coursing through her veins, the pain had settled in. If she'd been a normal human, it would probably have been unbearable.
But General Fluorite was now pretty damn far from a normal human, all things considered.
"Im going to find that senshi." There she was starting again. "And I am going to skewer him on his own shoulderpads. Senshi shouldn't wear armor. That's ******** bullshit." Technically impossible, but she didn't care. "I am going to slash him into tiny tiny little pieces and leave him on his little eternal friend's doorstep. I-"
Another hiss of pain. Well, she was doing none of that anytime soon, really.
She did kick off her shoes, through, not wanting to get shoeprints all over Kess' floor. "I'll find a way. I don't think I'll sleep too good on a sofa will all the ******** burns all over me..."
Ngh.
"Yeah." Well, yes, she was hungry. She'd just fought the longest battle of her life, hand down, no question asked, and the usually energetic teenager was bone tired.
The energizer bunny had ran out of juice.
"And beer... Hell yeah." It was gonna help with the pain. She hoped. If it didn't, well, she didn't care.

It was almost amusing, the contrast of Ashley's hot anger and Kess' cool acceptance of what had occurred in the Surrounding. There was nothing to be done to change the past, and so the blonde had quickly begun to move on, her thoughts for the future. All in all, she'd fared well in the battle, though her jaw still ached from where Nemesis' had grabbed it for mere seconds.
"Yeah," she responded, as Ashley ranted violently, her tone noncommittal while she dug through the fridge. There wasn't much [she'd been a bit busy for grocery shopping], but the milk was good, and there was butter.
That meant one thing: Mac 'n cheese.
Sure, it wasn't the most complicated combination of flavors, but it would put something hot in their bellies, fast. The blonde filled a pot of water and put it on the stove, before pulling a box of dinosaur macaroni and cheese from the cupboard.
Waiting for the water to boil, she snagged two beers from the fridge, and the bottle of sailor jerry from above it, making her way back to the couch. A shot or two was poured into a short glass, and she pressed the glass into Ashley's hand. "Have some magic juice."
A beer wouldn't help, but some rum certainly would. If anything, it'd make it easier to sleep. "We'll rewrap you, so the blisters won't rub on the sheets, 'n then I'll make up a bed for you after you eat."

Ashley didn't seem to care much (or well... notice, really) how non-committal Kess' answers to her Grand Plans Of Revenge were. Hell, maybe she was just bitching for the sake of bitching. Pain tended to do that to people.
She kind of wanted to get up, go help Kess some, not liking the fact she was leaving her to do everything, but the part of her that wanted as little to do with this 'moving' thing as possible was still winning out.
For the moment, anyway. The box of mac and cheese was recognizable enough, but really, anything warm and edible was good enough for Ashley at the moment.
The beer came swiftly, as did the glass, through the purple-haired girl wasn't completely sure of the contents - but really, alchool. Good enough for her.
"Thanks." A sip was taken. Not something she'd had before, no, she didn't think. Or maybe she was just tired. "Should we get them wet again ?" Really, she knew the very, very basics of burn wounds and how to deal with them. She certainly had no idea how to deal with something of that magnitude. She'd always wanted to learn, but well...
Well, a lot of things had happened.

"Naw, we're past the point where cold water'll help you, Ash." She shook her blonde head, before glancing toward the downstairs bathroom. "I've got some ointment, though, we can slap on there to keep a moisture seal." Kess got injured a lot, and had quite the first aid kit.
"Y'better look into first aid certification after this one. I'll even laminate your card for you when you get it." A flash of that lopsided grin, and the lanky girl headed back into the kitchen, swigging from her bottle as she poured macaroni into boiling water.
While it cooked, she collected the ointment and fresh bandages, gesturing to the purple-haired teen's clothing. "Let's get that out of the way, duckie."
Jeans were not the best clothing to rub against your burns. Kess helped the younger girl when she needed it, and put the cooling salve on the places she couldn't reach.

"Oh..." Yes, Ashley was clueless. Especially with more serious burns like the ones she was currently sporting - the metal burn on her arm was a nasty, nasty customer. Looked like it might scar, even.
Scarred by a base senshi. For ******** shame. Thankfully for Kess, through, she didn't start ranting again - simply complied and helped with what burns she could reach.
Whatever sense of modesty Ashley Desmond might have once had had been shattered around the first time she'd had to get patched up.
"I keep meaning to, really. It's really useful to know and sometimes you just don't have a starseed or energy handy. But, you know." She waved her hands. "Stuff happens. Constantly."
Being a general pretty much meant that you had to have eyes behind your head in order to keep track of everything - especially since there wasn't a whole lot of generals so far.
Plenty of eternal senshi, through. Damnit.

"I'll let you know when they're having another open enrollment course at DCU." The blonde handed Ashley a bowl of mac 'n cheese, dropping onto the couch next to her to dig into her own bowl. It tasted ridiculously good, hot and gooey, and lacking any traces of outer space.
"Havin' to hide it from your parents can't help," She spoke around her spoon, an idea clearly lighting her eyes. "Why don't you stay here?" She clarified, "More permanently."
As roommates. It was kind of nice, despite the unfortunate circumstances, to have someone to talk to, a reason to turn the lights on. Usually, she just came home to crash.

"They have an open course ?" Handy, really. Through DCU had been one of the things she'd considered. This was her senior year, after all, and somehow in spite of spending more and more of her time as Fluorite, she had to figure out something for her future.
It was a little scary, to be honest. She could stare an eternal senshi in the eye, but the prospect of post-high school was still a little scary. That whole being an adult thing.
The mac and cheese was everything Ashley wanted it to be - through she made a badass home-made one that Kess would likely become familiar with later on. Especially with the question she'd just asked, which made the girl pause.
"Uh ?" Well. She hadn't particularly expected that to come up, but it was obvious that she was pondering it. "I can't move out quite yet..." Her parents actually stood divided in the issue - her father was more than willing to give her an 'head start', especially since she'd kept her summer job and was still getting good grades. Not amazing grades, but good grades - good enough, at least. Her mother was adamant that she shouldn't move out before she graduated - a lot of it perhaps fueled by not wanting her baby to leave the nest so quickly.
"After christmas, through... My dad is open to the idea of me moving out, my mom's not so hot on it, but I think she'll cave in to dad eventually. They havn't noticed much of anything, so far." Playing soccer explained a lot of things. Playing soccer pretty roughly explained a lot more.
But really, Kess didn't particularly need an insider insight at how the Desmond clan worked. "Short answer ?" A pause for a spoonful of mac and cheese. "Sure. You mind dogs ?" Elton was pretty much hers at this point, through her first idea of moving out had been pretty standard - an apartment.
Ever tried to cram a golden retriever in an apartment ?
But Kess had a nice big yard, and a nice big house. "He's well trained, pretty much a giant stuffed animal. I think you'd like him."

"Of course I like dogs. What am I, evil?" She grinned then, perhaps a tad too wolfishly. Who didn't like dogs? Horrible people. Kess imagined that the entire white court hated dogs! Shaking her head at her own, almost-amusing thoughts, she filled her mouth, and mind, with another bite of food.
Chewing, she went over a few things in her mind, before venturing. "Scratch DCU. I met another officer that can give us a hand with that sort of training. In fact, I think we've a lot of yet untapped knowledge in the ranks. I'm gonna see what I can do about getting useful skills passed around to those that need 'em."
She pointed her fork briefly at Ashley. "No stress on a move-in, yeah? Just want to make sure my girl's got a safe home base. Let me know, when the time comes, and I'll convince my truck to run long enough for a few loads of your massive closet."
Honestly, some girls.

"Only horrible people don't like dogs. That was a stupid question, really." She said, amused, unaware of how closely her thoughts had ran along with Kess'. That was certainly a relief - Elton was much more her dog by now rather than the family's dog, and she'd been afraid he wouldn't have taken to her suddenly being gone too well.
Well, problem solved !
Ashley's bowl was quickly emptying - really, this was probably the best post-huge fight meal idea ever. Dinosaur mac and cheese.
Damn Kess was awesome.
"I'll try not to kill your truck." She said, amused. "No promise, through."
If Kess feared her wardrobe, then thank god she'd never seen Jada's prior to her parents moving out...

"Good enough," The blonde ran a hand through her short, tousled hair, before standing and reaching out to take Ashley's now-empty bowl. Tilting her chin in the direction of the stairs, she moved to put their dishes in the sink. "Time to get you into bed," She shot the younger girl a wink and made her way back to the couch.
"I'll run on ahead to get your room set up." Kess was sparing her friend the indignity of being watched as she tried to slowly manage the stairs. By the time Ashley got up there and through the only door open in the upstairs hall, she'd find fresh sheets on the bed, as well as a pair of cotton shorts and a t-shirt. Perhaps not Ashley's style, but they were clean.
"Bathroom's directly across the hall," She paused, "If you need anything else, just text me. Won't be able to hear you if you shout, 'cause I'll be in the basement."

"Yes, mommy." Came the amused reply, but really... Ashley wasn't willing to argue. Not tonight, at least. Not with her burns stinging and her eyes half closed as it was.
It was probably a good thing Kess had the good sense to spare her the embarrassment, because the way Ashley managed those stairs was, well... slow and definitively embarrassing. But she did finally manage, and made her way through the open door.
"Kay." It did kind of strike her as odd that Kess holed up in the basement when she had a whole house to herself, but she was too tired to ask. Instead, her cellphone was pulled out of her pocket and put on the table next to the bed, a silent reminder of what she'd need to do if she needed anything.
"Thanks, Kess." She managed a smile, but it was tired, worn. Sleep would do her a load of good, really. "G'night..."
