Candice held her arms above her head, holding her book bag behind her head. She looked down at the floor and sighed. She knew that Horizon Institute was pretty much there because she had been kicked out of her old school after being missing for six weeks. There were no expectations from her or anyone else at that school, from what she knew, but it didn't mean she didn't try her very best to study.
She looked back up at the building of the city library. It kind of saddened her that she had been spending so much time with school and so little of doing other things. Candice didn't feel as active as she did before when it came to fencing as well as not as creative when it came to designing clothes for her dolls. The only thing she did try to continue to do was sell Avon. School still needed to be paid for.
Most would think that a female at her age would be afraid of staying out by herself after the sun went down. For Candice however, she remembered what was out there. It was something she just couldn't put behind her. The feelings, the unknown... Everything just bugged her to no end. While she walked back to her apartment, her mind was just in the clouds, not really wanting to think about school or the stuff that happened. What could really put her mind at ease?

Camelot usually started his patrols from the library, as it was just convenient for him to go out once he was done with work, without having to go home first. He lived further away now then he had before, so walking, even while powered up, was inconvenient. Or maybe he was just being lazy. He liked to explain it to himself as managing his time.
Of course, sometimes it wasn't as convenient as he wanted it to be.
He often brought his dog to work, and since he had been gone for so long she was particularly keen on staying with him every moment she could. So he had to make her a little room of sorts in his office where she could stay at night while he was patrolling.
And before he put her in there, he had to take her out for a walk.
The knight was standing by a tree out in front of the library, the little corgi wobbling around and sniffing at bushes she must have sniffed a thousand times before but were still vastly interesting to her. He had powered up to keep an ear out, or rather his senses out, for any negaverse agents or trouble that might be around.
He didn't see the person walking down the street, as he wasn't looking so much as just feeling for energy signatures. He bent down to pick Dogby up once she was finished.

It took the sniffing and wriggling of a little dog to get Candice's head out of the clouds. She knew she had to be alert at the odd times of the night because, although she didn't like to admit it, she was a female and they did have a tendency to be more vulnerable. "Why couldn't I just be born a male? It would of made things like this a lot easier..."
As she looked around for the noise, she saw that it was a man holding a dog. She slowly walked closer to get a closer glimpse of the figure, trying to determine if she had to run for it or not. Once she got close enough to see the man properly, Candice was very much surprised. "One of those... 'Senshi' people...? Holding a dog?"
"Kind of weird to see one of those people holding a Corgi," Candice said as she approached the man. There was this anger and frustration building inside of her. Day by day, the news slowly stopped saying that there was a mass kidnapping. It happened so much that she actually thought she was kidnapped. But the memories... It was so much more. She had died and come back to life. That wasn't something that was normal! Life was not supposed to do that!
Candice's emotions were bouncing back between some sort of hatred and thankfulness, but which one? She hadn't seen one of those people since she came back. It was getting hard to decide if she wanted to just sock the guy in the face, leave or... Answers. That's what she wanted. Answers.
It would of been the more polite route to introduce herself first, but she just wanted to know. "That mass civilian disappearance... It wasn't just a mass kidnapping right? Space... Monsters... We... Died... and came back, right? RIGHT?"
She looked down at the ground. Candice could still see 'herself' floating away from her body... Her hand ended up clenched around a piece of the man's clothing, subconsciously wanting to keep the man there until she understood. "I... Don't even understand how I came back here... Help me understand... Please?"

Camelot looked at the girl as she walked closer to him, blinking in surprise. He was concerned about feeling bad guys, or other good guys, he hadn't thought to keep note of any civilians that might be walking toward him.
Now he knew he did look strange.
"Ah... well..." he said, blinking. He wasn't sure what to say. Were the civilians not supposed to remember what had happened? He certainly did, seeing them die, seeing what became of them, and how the dragon had been killed. It stunned him to learn they were alive, that they had been returned to earth. He knew how the news was trying to spin it, but he also knew that the news was probably the least accurate source for information.
But he couldn't blame her for being angry about it. Of course he would know more about what happened then she did.
He motioned to the ground, sitting at the edge of the sidewalk and putting Dogby in his lap. He waited for her to sit down with him, offering her the little dog.
"To be honest, I don't know what exactly happened, and certainly not why. But you all... died... and protected the Surrounding when it most needed it. You were sent back here, back home, after the battle had been won. You were needed, and something inside you responded. It wasn't anything we did: we were in the dark as you were, and so were the senshi who live in that place. We did everything we could to protect you."

Candice watched as the guy just walked over to the sidewalk and sat down. He looked funny and was definitely different than normal people. She was pretty sure all of these 'powerful' people knew that something had happened in space. When he motioned her, she just looked at him for a second. "How is he so calm about everything...?"
Eventually, she sat down and petted the man's little Corgi. The Corgi was cute and she relaxed a little bit. Candice listened to the man as he talked, but she didn't really understand. When he stopped, she looked up at the sky, resting her body on her arms behind her. "So everything that happened... All the people that were taken in a blink of an eye... It was really just some freak accident?"
"I still don't even know if I should be hating you or thanking you," she told him with a little laugh. "I'm pretty sure not a lot of people could say they were dead and came back to life. Of course, no one would believe us anyways."
She sat back up and look towards him. Candice really hoped that tonight would help her understand them a little bit better. Her mind kept being drawn back to whether or not they were friend or foe. "So you, Mr. Corgi lover... How did you end up like..." she used her hands to motion his outfit and shield. "...that? I guess I'm wondering how anyone ends up like that..."

Dogby was very keen on being pet, but seemed to notice that the air was tense. There was something going on that she didn't understand, as usual, but it looked like something that could be solved with cuddles. She nuzzled against her hand, whining softly.
"You could call it that," Camelot said, when she asked about the 'freak accident'. He wished he had a better answer for her, but he didn't.
"I hope you don't hate me," he said sincerely, looking at her with a sidelong glance. He saw her looking up at the sky, following her gaze upwards toward the stars. He nodded his head slowly.
He shifted, thinking about his answer to her next question.
"There was a power sleeping inside me," he said, patting his shield, "and it was awakened when I needed it. Now I spend my time defending the innocent, and trying to keep lives from being lost. We really are trying to keep you all safe, but there is a lot of things that we don't have control over."

Candice smiled as the little dog nuzzled and whined. She petted him some more. She had never had a dog herself, and never knew how helpful they were when it came to making someone feel better. Candice wasn't surprised that he didn't have an answer though. It felt kind of common now not to know why.
She looked over at him when she heard the word 'hate' and sat up straight. "Oh goodness no." Candice couldn't actually remember hating anyone. There was 'dislike' and 'uncomfortable', but never downright hate. "That is... Unless I have a reason to." She cocked her head and looked up at him.
"I mean, I remember being a lot of fighting there. Sometimes it was to protect us... But I do remember the one where I died. There seemed to be... 'Not-so-good' people? Though from what you said... 'defending the innocent'... That does mean you're the 'good' people right? Part of the ones that were trying to get us home?"

Camelot frowned.
"I'm glad, at least. I don't need anyone else to hate me at this point," he laughed, shaking his head. It wasn't actually funny, as it was true. He had many enemies, and it sucked, for lack of a better word. He did not like having anyone fighting against him, let alone holding rivalries and hatred toward him, but it was all a part of the job.
That was the thing. One of the many dangerous things about this war, a way to rationalize something for the 'greater good'. Things that need to be done, no matter what. Inevitabilities. Camelot wasn't sure what he thought of that idea, the greater good. What made him different from the other combatants? What made him so sure he was right?
Did others view him as he did the Negaverse? Worse, surely.
He was getting a bit distracted.
"I was trying to get you home, yes. I try to... to keep people like you safe. I fail, sometimes, and I'm sorry. But at least whatever brought you to space brought you back where we couldn't." He smiled warmly, watching Dogby, who seemed to be in bliss.

Candice let out a little laugh. It was one of the first laughs that occurred that actually seemed kind of happy. She loved to laugh, but it was just hard to let things go. "You seem like a hard person to hate," she said as she ticked the little dog's tummy. "I mean, you look like those knights from fairy tales and you have a dog. A very cute one at that."
She knew that she had to figure out how to put things behind her, and she half-hoped that tonight would help. "I'm not mad. At least... I don't feel like it's 'mad' anymore. I guess more confused. I'm a person who likes finding answers, but it seems like... No one knows except this secret... Thing? That managed to bring us all home."
"So... You're a 'defender'... But my question is..." Candice gave him a once look-over. "Do you have to dress like that? I mean... I remember girl's in skirts and stuff... But you don't look anything like those 'senshi' people I saw and sorta met at the Surrounding."
Candice was very much curious. "Do... I have something to be afraid of here? I mean... Nothing ever happened to me before the Surrounding... But... Now I seem kind of on-edge even when I meet every day people...."

"I wish everyone felt that way," he laughed in his own right, shaking his head. Some people found it all too easy to hate him, and he struggled to try and convince them that he was not their enemy. Which, so far, had just made them hate him more.
It wasn't going very well yet, but he would figure it out in time. He hoped. That, or something terrible was destined to happen. He would do everything in his power to avoid that, though.
Dogby whined as she rolled over. Camelot knew it was a little dangerous, since the dog was easy to recognized and that would give his identity away, so he should his head and laughed.
"Oddly enough, I just helped the owner of this dog with a ah... youma problem. He's a bit laid up, so I'm giving her a walk." That seemed plausible. After all, this was the same knight that had ended up fostering a kitten when he rescued it from a youma. Not that she knew that, but it was still within his character either way.
When she asked about his attire he put his hand to his chest and patted the armor.
"Well, the clothes are sort of... given to us when we awaken to our powers. It doesn't look that bad, does it? I'm a knight, so my required outfits don't include skirts. Which is good, because I don't think I could pull one off. Ah..." the conversation turned to more serious things, and he nodded slowly. "Well. There are dangers here. We try to keep everyone safe, but there are monsters in this city, and those who serve Chaos. They prey on civilians. But there are many of us, knights and senshi, who will fight to keep you safe."

Candice continued to play and cuddle the little dog as the man talked. It was hard for her to believe that so much was going on in their city, but then again, how was it hard not to believe after the things in space? "Everyone accepts things at their own time I guess?" She looked back up at the man, the one that called himself a 'knight'.
She ticked the little dog's tummy before she picked her up and gave her a little snug. "I think it's very sweet that someone that calls himself a 'knight' is willing to take care of something so small," Candice said, smiling to herself with the dog still close to her face. "And thank you... I guess you could tell the others too. I do appreciate you all for what you guys did... Up there. It's just kind of hard knowing who's who, yah know?"
"But at least now I can tell the difference between a 'senshi' and a 'knight'." Candice laughed a little bit, she let out another little sigh before she stood up and held the little dog to the man's face. "I don't really know what to say anymore. But thank you, Mr. Knight, for all that you do. I can't imagine having the powers to protect people like you do."

Camelot smiled at her and nodded his head.
Dogby was in heaven, and did not wish to leave. But she would have to, eventually, and Camelot wondered about disrupting the cuddles to get her to walk again. Dogby was a very well behaved dog, save that when she saw there was attention to be had she made sure to get it.
Camelot smiled, nodding his head. He was taking care of Dogby for someone else, of course. Certainly not his dog. Nope.
"I know. But you can count on knights to protect and help you when you need it, as we can. It's our duty."
He looked surprised as she solved his problem for him and offered him the Corgi. He took the dog, who wiggled and whined sadly, and held her to him. He then smiled and nodded his head.
"You don't have to thank me, though I do appreciate it. Not too many people do that." He laughed. "Not that we do what we do for it. Anyway, ah. I suppose we should get about the things we're supposed to be doing." He chuckled, and Dogby whimpered and tried to get to Candice for more pets, but Camelot didn't let her get free of his hold.

"I will try my best not to swing my books at them when I see them," Candice said with a smile. She knew that she had to be wary of some of them, but hopefully she can tell bad from good if the time ever came. Candice gave the little dog one last pat on the head as little guy whined just a bit. "Hopefully I can meet the owner of the little guy eventually and meet them."
Still smiling, she looked at Camelot. "I think that... People are better and more helpful when someone thanks them. Seems like people nowadays have lost that notion though."
Candice gathered up her book bag and stood up straight again. "I hope that we meet again some day, Mr. Knight. I also hope that I'm not in need of any assistance, but... We never know!" With the hand not carrying her book bag, she waved at the knight and little dog.
Having a meeting with one of the 'powered' people made Candice feel somewhat at ease. She hadn't learned much about them at the Surrounding, but with the sit down talk with Camelot, she knew that there would be at least some that she could trust.
Oh. And having her own dog wouldn't hurt either. "Hm... I should definitely checkout that pet store sometime," Candice thought to herself. "New puppy, here I come!"
