There the frost demon sat in her cage, silent once more, deep in thought. She had said it before, they were sons and daughters of mothers and fathers. And here she was, her parents were about to be robbed of their only child and heir to the family. Guess I was .....unworthy she mused sadly, her hand reaching out to touch the pendant on her forehead. It was a short and quick decision for her as she took it off, letting it rest in her hand as she continued to reflect upon the events, past and present. Father was right in not wanting to let her go to school, no, SHE was wrong for assuming school would be safe, all the sunshines and sparkles. She was the fool for not knowing what was out there, now that she'd gotten the bigger picture like she had always wanted, she had no right to cry about her decisions. Learn more about the world huh? Edel stole a glance at the hunters before looking away.
Turning the gemstones around in her hand, the ghoul faced up to the questions that have been haunting her for a long time. Her parents were probably better off with a son. Or at least, someone who could survive to succeed the family instead of a ghoul who was groomed to be a proper lady - and all for naught. It was a sickening thought, but it did cross her mind that her parents could still produce another heir.
She had wanted to head out of the confines of her home, a safe haven, and venture out on a journey of self-discovery. Become a better person, a better leader, someone who could protect what she stood for. Had she been so blinded by the excitement and possibilities the world offered that she would develop a complete ignorance to the threats and dangers of it? No, I've considered that too
Just not of this scale
But it was too late for any reconsiderations.
It was odd though, Edel was not feeling as much regret for the decisions she made that cumulated to the current situation compared to the unruly behaviour she had just demonstrated. Graciousness huh. She could not help but laugh to herself. She couldn't decide if it was right of her to show off such a heated and fervent (and at times, inappropriate) desire to live, or if she was wrong to have let herself be swept away with the raging emotions. For the ghoul who had experienced so little with regards to well, this, she concluded it was both. My my am I such a mess.
Perhaps it would be prime for her to make plans for the future, or what little she had of it left. It was probably appropriate with start with a prayer.
Dear Jack. There was a brief pause as the ghoul sorted through the torrent of things she wanted to say. For a moment she believed that he would understand all of it, even without her saying, but it might be better to voice everything out so there were no regrets.
Dear Jack, thank you for all you've done for me. Let me hold no grudges for the way I was raised – I was raised well. For the opportunity to experience something greater, I thank you as well
Another pause. What came next was the hard part.
Dear Mother and Father.
I'm sorry I have to leave you. Was that all she could say? No thank you's, no i love you's?
Thank you and I love you. Ah, there it was. One might come to the conclusion that Edel suffered an estranged relationship with her parents to deserve such a short, passing mention. Not really, though they probably weren't the closest a family could be, it was for certain that the ghoul did love, respect and care for them. She hoped that those few words were enough to convey all of that.
The next step, logically, would be to make a will. Except she didn't own anything, her parents did. Yep, there was no shame to admitting that ”I'm not rich, my parents are rich.”. Edel glanced over at Vieve and for a moment felt a little guilty on her father's behalf. Surely, that would be inconsequential beside her imminent doom. The ghoul was pretty sure they would clear out her dorm room for her and send everything back to her parents. No worries for Dingo, Chives and Snow then. There was one thing that truly belonged to her though. The frost demon stared at the pendant in her hand, feeling rather conflicted. See, there was really no one else to pass it on to – the rest of the Halloweeners here were trapped in cages, about to face a similar fate as her. She'd rather not take it along with her and let it become part of the weapon she was going to become either. The pass-it-to-the-hunters option was quickly dismissed and stomped upon. Never.
That was the one last thing that was left unresolved. Edel would just have to decide on something later when the time came.
Unless of course, they made it out of here
The ghoul hadn't been optimistic enough to consider that option until now. Well, why not, since everything else was settled for.
Edel allowed that little bit of optimism to pique her interest.
If you do go free, then what? a tiny voice asked.
Unresolved conflict no 1. will be nulled and voided
Well, and then what it urged.
The frost demon gave a slightly longer stare at the hunters that lingered outside their cages.
I'll think about it
THIS IS HALLOWEEN
WHERE IT IS ALWAYS HALLOWEEN (and sometimes exams)
