✬Moon-Viewing Festival✬

Location: The Field
Time: 9PM - 3AM

Why, it isn't called the Harvest Moon for nothing! In mid-Fall, just before the big harvests, the moon is at its fullest in the sky and glows of a faint orange. Folklore goes that this colour is because all of the fairies and the Goddess herself are out, playing tricks on the residents of Nirvani. Gather at night time to celebrate beneath this once in a year occurrence with your friends and family in the field, where the sky is the clearest. But don't forget to come dressed in a costume, because who knows who the fairies will choose to prank?

Nanami liked to think of herself as a very positive person, who generally was quite content and happy with her life. That was one of her favorite aspects of her personality, and it only seemed to perpetuate her general good mood. And tonight? She was ecstatic. It felt like it had been ages since she had last gone to a festival with her daughter, but here they were, the two of them, just as they had been doing for years. It was a little lonely living on her own, she had to admit, but it was nights like these that reminded her that things weren't too different -- Haruka just happened to live in a different house now.

The newly forty-five year old had always liked the pumpkin festival for its costumes, but she hadn't been a very active participant in the past. Her costumes were always halfhearted at best, but tonight was different. This was her and Haruka's first Pumpkin Moon festival since her daughter moved out, and she had to commemorate. For her, that was actually putting a bit of effort into her costume, by buying a fortune teller costume off the internet. It was actually quite impressive for her, and she was in such high spirits from it all, she practically dragged Haruka to the field.

Haruka honestly had to wonder why costume holidays tended to be in the coldest seasons. Sure, it was all good and well if you were dressed properly, but most female costume nowadays were skimpy little things. When she had originally been thinking of her costume, the idea she had decided on seemed like it would be a good idea, but now that she was here, dressed as a flapper, she seriously wondered what she was thinking. She was skinny as it was, and showing up to the field at night wearing a little dress meant that she was cold. So she hugged the blanket her mother had insisted on bringing to her chest, hoping that if she squeezed it hard enough, it would begin producing large amounts of heat. Nothing had happened yet, but she was feeling persistent! "Mom, slow down, I can't walk that fast in these heels," she shot a nervous look to the red haired woman who was clinging to arm and tugging her along through the grass. Eventually her mother decided that they had walked enough, and Haruka let out a disappointed sigh as Nanami let go of her arm, yanked the blanket away from her to spread on the grass. This costume idea really was a bad one.

"Ah, Jian, don't run." Most of the time, Mei either had to coax her children into going places, or just drag them along anyway. These were difficult, considering she was a small woman, and there were three of them going against her, and she was fairly weakwilled at times, so she wasn't good at being firm. But this was one of those nights she didn't need to persuade or demand. The three Li children, much like their peers, loved any opportunity to dress up and stay up past their bedtimes. Mei liked it, too, and it made her happy that her children were so happily participating in such an important holiday. She had fond memories of watching the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival during her childhoods in Beijing, and now it was her children's turn to enjoy it. ...Though sometimes she wondered if they just liked wearing costumes.

"Roarr, Chun Fei, I'm a dragon!" Jian called to his twin sister as he sprinted ahead of the group, flapping the wings of his costume fiercely. He chose to ignore his mother's words and instead began to run around in circles, pretending he was a great dragon, soaring through the clouds, higher, higher, higher.... Chun Fei wasn't impressed. "Jiaaan, you're too far away," she whined in English, stamping her foot impatiently before choosing to cling to her mother. As she took Mei's hand, she adjusted the ears of her own rabbit costume and pouted. She never liked it when her brother went off and left her. Besides, dragons were scary, and she would have rather he dress up as something cute, like she had.

"Mama, you should have made mooncakes," Yue addressed her mother in Mandarin as she trotted after her. She was dressed as a gangster, not because she found them particularly cool, but because all of the other girl costumes she had seen were "too girly" for her tastes, and she wanted something that the boys could wear. Hence a suit. Actually, she liked it quite a lot, it made her feel powerful. "That would have made today better." She glanced up at the large harvest moon that hung lazily in the sky, and she felt her heart swell slightly. This was her favorite holiday. Her name did mean moon, afterall. If only her mother hadn't been so negligent and had bothered to do it properly, this night could have been better. But there was no point in chastising Mei beyond that, and so she focused up on the moon, stifling a yawn. It was past her bedtime, but she didn't want to let her mother know that she was tired. That would be embarrassing! Only little kids got tired at nine o'clock!

Alex was not a costume person. In college, he had always been that guy who reluctantly showed up to parties wearing vampire fangs or a weird hat, and would always toss them halfway through when he couldn't take looking like an idiot anymore. Then he was the guy who went for "ironic", and would wear name tags with someone else's name on them. He just wasn't cut out for costumes, and would normally avoid festivals that featured costumes as the main theme, but he was married to Freja now, so he didn't always have that option. She liked the Pumpkin Moon Festival a lot, and if his wife liked it so much, he could drag himself there once a year. And it helped if River didn't go. But even so, as he showed up to the field with his family, wearing the same sort of clothes he always did, he couldn't help but feel a little out of place. Funny he wasn't more used to it, considering his wife was Freja.

---

Forget the Tomato Festival, now this was Yuri's kind of festival. A bunch of people in costumes, at nighttime, under a big, romantic moon? The atmosphere was perfect. ...Or, it would be, if not for the amount of kids who showed up. But the field was a big place, she could ignore the students running around. Besides, wearing a costume meant that she could wear less than she usually did. This year, she had selected a detective outfit... or something. Not that any real detective would dress like that. But she wasn't going for accuracy, she was going for something eyecatching! She really had one goal when it came to the Pumpkin Moon Festival -- catching someone's attention. ...Speaking of which, she was alone. She stood smack dab in the middle of the field, hands on her hips, as she kept an eye out for a familiar blonde head. Really, as much as she liked the idea of traditional holidays like this one, she wasn't particularly that interested in moon viewing or hanging around outside on a chilly night like this. She was really just there in case June decided to show.

Always so prompt for festivals, the Page family made there arrival as a group. Unlike the Tomato festival, the Pumpkin festival was easier to enjoy as a family. They could stay together and talk without having to battle it out with the rest of the crowd. Even Alt had said him and his family were coming. Reed was incredibly delighted by that fact. This played to his goofy attitude which went perfectly with his costume. Erika and Brooke had picked it out for him. He was not very good at figuring out what to wear himself after all. But, having a house full of girls was good for that reason, he was never badly dressed. Well today he was, yet that was part of the fun! Seeing everyone dressed up in silly costumes. And seeing his girls so excited to dress up, well he assumed they were, made him even more excited. Which gave Reed that extra spring in his step as he entered the festival grounds. "We're early this time..." He let slip from his lips as he looked around. He always liked to survey the scene when he arrived. Just something to notice.

Any thoughts that Reed had about his daughters being excited were most certainly true. Well, for Erika at least. When else did she get to dress as cute as this? She loved all these funky costumes. "If I only it could be like this always!" She said happily. Really she would hate it if she had to dress like this always. Yet, she liked the thought. Of course, the blonde arrived with her family in her usual position. Her hands wrapped around her fathers arm. Sometimes she would let go to hang onto Blaire. However, more often then not, when she let go it was to pull on the back of Brooke's hair when she was in front of her. Like she was doing now. Of course she wouldn't say anything in front of her parent's, just tease her sister a little. And to make sure her 'tough love' wasn't seen by her parents, she stepped forward and wrapped the tyke into her arms. She place her head on the girl's shoulder and smiled sweetly, "Your dressed so cute this year!" She wasn't lying. Erika liked her sisters costume a lot. Though the compliment wasn't hundred percent genuine, and she was sure her sister knew.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Pumpkin festival... Ray couldn't figure out why he always ended up here, and in costume as well. When he was a kid, him and his brother never came. Yet lately, his parents had been bringing him more and more. And this year, they were here as well. Though Mr. and Mrs. King were off mingling with other NPCs, leaving the white haired boy to his own accord. He stood a bit away from the liveliness and just spectated the place. Now, before you consider him a sad little wall flower. Ray King had a very good reason to be here. You see, the boy had always had a fascination with holidays, and their... Mythical symbols. Santa, Cupid, the Easter bunny, stuff like that. He has yet to prove they exist however. Goddess knows he tried, but he could just never find the proof. And that doesn't mean he gave up, to this day, the boy has become rather enthralled by the idea of meeting a mythical figure. And this island, this festival seemed the best for it. Why? The fairies and harvest goddess herself, that is why. And a night where they might come out to pull pranks. Well, this was the perfect chance to meet them now wasn't it?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This festival had become somewhat of a tradition for Avian Stonebrak. Every year was the same for him. And he absolutely loved it. Once he heard about a holiday in which everyone dresses up and haves fun, he just couldn't sit around and not participate. And oh did he participate. Every year he played, what he liked to think, was a big part of the festival. Dressed in his usual pumpkin get up, the man set himself up for his volunteer job. And what was that? Well a festival so designed for children, its mixing something right? Candy! Kids loved the stuff! Hell, Avi loved the stuff! That's why every year Avi came with a big pumpkin shaped bucket filled with lots of candy (A very large bucked that would probably take two people just to pick up), and set it down next to him for the children to see. Of course, usually he was left with a lot of left overs, but that was okay with him as well. That just meant he had candy to eat for the entire year! Not a bad deal at all.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joining the festival this year was the Harris family. Since Alastair was home from a small time movie shoot, he decided he would accompany his family to the event. Kotone was rather excited to go, and Peter didn't oppose either. Making it a rare family outing for them. This year the blonde man was wearing a wizard costume, a favorite of his wife, and was walking along rather happily. If had been awhile since he got to enjoy one of Nirvani's festivals and was pretty ready to have some fun. Especially since it had been a couple of months since he saw his cousin and family. A very large perk that Alt looked forward to every time he returned to the island. So arriving at the grounds, hand in hand with his wife, he began to look around for the tall dark haired man or his blonde bundle of joy. Though, neither could be seen from this side. Or at least he figured. He became quite distracted with a couple of stars that shaped an even bigger star. The sky really was nice here... And you know, old habits die hard and all that.

Holding on to Kotone's other hand was little Skyla, scuttling along to keep up with her families pace. The girl was actually rather confused on what was going on. All she knew was that her mother and father had dressed her and themselves in weird clothes and that they were walking outside with them on. She pouted at the thought. Not that she didn't like being with her family, she loved it. If it wasn't for the fact that her mother kept pushing her off, the girl would be clinging right onto her leg. But, she would have to compromise for holding hands, which when her father was around, Kotone seemed much more okay with. In Skyla's other hand was Dulce. She didn't leave anywhere without him after all. And this year, Daddy had even brought a costume for him! The young girl's mouth formed a small smile as she tightened her grip a bit on the leash. She looked over to her brother, and after a small bit of thought, let go of her mother's hand to hurry over to Peter. She grabbed onto his hand and looked up at him with big eyes. "Peter," She spoke in her small voice, holding up Dulce's leash for him to see, "Dulce says 'Woof.'" Dulce and Peter had similar costumes after all.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arriving with more of the incoming crowd of people was the Salvador siblings. Icis had been itching to go all week once she found out what it was. Styde... Well, he was only here because Ether had a hangover and didn't want to go. Hence, he had to come watch his sister. He sighed, this was the last thing he wanted to do. Watch over that... Beast. And yet, disobeying his aunt just seemed like the worst choice. So here the boy was, dressed up in a humiliating costume (no doubt given to him by that sadistic guardian of his), standing in the midst of children running around in other costumes, making tons of noise. "Why couldn't I have just stayed home..." The boy spoke as he kept a small distance behind his sister as they arrived. It's not like some creepy guy could over power the girl. Hell, if anything, Styde would be here to protect others from her... Maybe that was why he was here? He wouldn't put it past Ether to think of. All the women in his family were scary like that. But, unlike Icis, most of them had self control.

As you would figure, Icis's self control had ran out. Hearing her brother obviously whining she turned to faced him. She stomped her right foot towards him and shift her weight into her leg. Then in a quick motion, punched her brother in the stomach viciously. And before Styde could speak and react, the girl stuck her tongue out, not unlike a dog which she was 'dressed up' as, and twirled around to venture off on her own. Her brother would just get in her way after all. How was she supposed to talk to all the cute little girls with his creepy mug around. She shivered a bit, he was disgusting. However, she moved on. Now the brunette was watching as all the little girls frolicked about in there costumes. Some she knew, others not really. Either way, they were all adorable! Icis wandered from spot to spot, watching them, talking to them, even playing with them. She was actually in the middle of playing with a group of kids, a game of tag. And as she was running away from the person who was it, she felt her self bump into two things. One, low on her body, the other way taller. And when she backed up and looked, she saw another little angel Chun Fei and her mother Mei. The girl immediately fixed up her childish attitude, always having to look like a proper lady in front of the adults, and smiled up at the mother, "I'm very sorry."

Talia & Ian & Gabriel & Benji

The first sibling pair were on their way to arrive. Talia, a young lady dressed up and ready to go, was forcefullly pulling her older brother, Ian, by the wrist. "C'mon, Ian! We're gonna be late!" Talia cried. Her short dress of a costume waving shamelessly in the weak wind. There wasn't much to say about the man being dragged behind, other than his hate for costumes was unmatched; however, compared to the hate he felt for his sister, it was insignificant. His mind hissing insults and death wishes toward the little lady. While he usually hid this fact, Ian was more than able to spit out the comment, "Oh shut up, Talia. You know I don't want to go. I hate costumes and I hate small talk and that's all this will be. Why can't you let me say freaking home! Let go!" His urg to hit her was rising.

It took a moment for Talia to finish her sigh and answer, "Because you need to meet people. How else do you expect to be successful at work if you don't have willing clients? So suck it up and get moving. We're almost there." She hadn't even cared to look back as she answered, knowing what kind of hateful face Ian would be giving her. He was such a child sometimes which explained his last muttering remark, "I wish the lions from the zoo had eaten you..." Talia just rolled her eyes and kept moving. "I'm serious! You're so useless."

The pair stayed relativly quiet until they reached the hill of the festival. While Talia would have liked to have held onto Ian for longer, she was forced to drop her hand when she saw an unexpected sight: the Galluses. Both boys had grown considerably since their days in childhood; although, Talia's crush for Gabe had never been quenched. In all honesty, it was given new fire as she saw the two standing side by side dressed in simple sheets as togas.

"Gabe! Ben! What are you doing here!" Her face had lit up and her eyes filled with joy. She hadn't seen these two in years. It didn't take long for her to jump onto each and give him a larger hug. Her lips smiling wide and proud, muttering, "I...I just can't believe it!"

----

Gabriel and Benji were taken by surprise when they heard the cry of Talia. The younger boy slightly jumping to see her. Immediately, he broke down in tears. "Tally!" He accepted the embrace happily, remembing their years during the depression where the Gallus boys were taken in by the Valhals for a couple years. They were the best times for Benji and he missed them more than ever.

There was nothing that could ruin this moment, except for Ian who grudgingly appeared behind Talia with a sour look of distain. He hated both the Gallus boys slighlty more than he hated other people and pulled himself from the situation to find himself alone beside a tree. Solitude was always better than people he hated and he would continue this thought for a moment longer, glaring at the rest of the population who was beginning to surface.

The others were still huddled together, chatting about their missed times. Gabe accepted Talia's hug as well, warmly and with a smile; however, when he looked forward during the hug his eyes laid upon a familiar face: Yuri. While he wasn't ashamed of his antics, his brother may have been. That was the secret, wasn't it? That Benji never knew Gabe's occupation. Quite quickly, Gabe pulled away and moved so that his back was to the woman. Hopefully, the woman wouldn't notice and he could continue to go about the conversation. This was what Gabe was praying for - that, and that Talia wouldn't associate their lack of good costumes for their lack of money which was ultimatly the truth.

It was no surprise that the whole LeBlanc family, at least Yoakim’s side of it, was going to go to the Pumpkin Moon Festival. After all, they were regarded as the perfect family on the island. Married young for 15 years, two children, big house, golden retriever, white picket fence, office jobs, slight shame on Rune’s real father that everyone ignored. Yes, they were the family that everyone looked up too when setting an ideal, so of course they would be going out to a family festival like this one. Too bad that, behind the scenes, everything wasn’t always so perfect. Still, everyone made an effort for it not to show in public. Impressions were important after all and they couldn’t let the people of Nirvani know that their marriage was slowly falling apart, not that both Yoakim and Ellie would admit that… yet. They were just going through a rough patch… a patch that lasted about four years now, but still just a patch! No one knew about it, so they could ignore it. Or something like that. Point was, they were all arriving on the festival ground like the perfect family they were… even thought they were arguing… But it was happy arguments! Really! It was a costume argument! No, not that Yoakim choice of costume sucked or that Wilhelm was wearing the same thing for the 10th year in a row or something, but rather that Rune was… well, you’d have guessed it.

”All I’m saying”, started the Town Rep, trying to explain the situation to his wife, ”Is that I don’t understand why people think it’s a necessity to wear outfits so… so…” He wasn’t quite sure how to spell it out. Calling his daughter a ‘filthy little whore’ just sounded wrong, even thought it was the impression her costume gave. Well, truthfully, it wasn’t such a bad costume, less skimpy than a lot of other things she could have been wearing… but still! That Skirt! Fortunatly for the man, his son was always there to help him when it came to put the blame on his older sister, like any good sibling should do.

”Revealing? I can explain why! She wants to get a booooyyyfriiiieeeennnd so she wants to seduce them by bending over! It’s a common tactic! Hey! Hey! Rune! Amma gonna be an uncle after tonight?” Oh yes, Wilhelm was quite happy to tease his sister like. He just loved that festival for that reason. He could poke fun at his sister for dressing like that, something he knew their father was sensible too, and he could, for the 12th year in a row, dress as his favourite costume: A Pirate! It never was the same costume year after year, but it still always was a pirate! Or a buccaneer! Or a Privateer! Some seafarer with a sword ready to cut people and steal their gold! Oh yes, pirate were just that cool. Why were they cool? Well, don’t ask questions, they just Arrrr!

”Wh-what?!”, exclaimed Yoakim after Wilhelm spoke. He looked at Rune with an expression of horror on his face. He glanced toward his wife, trying to get her to help him there! Or at least reassure him.

”GOD, DAD. I’m just KIIIIDING. She’s like that because she wants Ray to put out already. Gosh.”

”It… It’s not true, isn’t it! You.. You wouldn’t do that! Ellie, tell me she wouldn’t do that! Rune. Don’t do that. I… I… No. I.. Ellie! We.. I.. You… No. Oh dear Goddess….” The man was just lost for words at that moment. The little gears in his brains and broken and nothing was working anymore. His daughter was one of those girls you see on TV that one day just make a pact with a bunch of other girls to get pregnant. He was too Young to be a grandfather! And so was Ellie! She wasn’t even forthy! You shouldn’t be a grandmother before you were at least sixty! He left out a large sigh and dropped his eyes down to look at the only sane person of their group, that is, their dog, Duke.

The old golden retriever was part of the family, so of course he would be there with them. He wasn’t in a leach, considering that he had been well trained enough. He knew to never go too far from one of his master, especially Rune whom he just loved to follow around. He was a family dog, which meant he had to protect his family! Yoakim and Ellie were both tall enough to protect themselves and Wilhelm was a lost cause already, so he had to protect Rune! That, and she smelled good. He was even dressed for the occasion! That littlereindeer costume was perfect for him. Of course, the dog didn’t understand what was happening and just decided to run toward Rune and start liking her right hand. No clue what she had touched lately, but damn did that tasted good.

Wilhelm was quite enjoying the current situation, but he hadn’t came to the festival to spend time with his family. He saw them enough as it was already. Instead, he had came to spend time with John or Peter! 8 hours of school 5 times a day was not enough! His eyes scanned the ground, trying to spot one, or both, or the boys. It was hard to tell who was who with all those costume…. No, no, no, no, Erika, whatever, no, no, no hot boys in toga, no, no waaaait. Go back. Hot guys in toga? Uh, rather… It was the new kid at school with his family who was so looking for a new friend to save him from them. A new friend like Wilhelm! ”Enjoy yourself. I’ll be over there.” He told his family as he ran away toward Benji and the people he assumed were his family. ”ARRR! Hey! Hey! Dude! Man! Yo! Hey! What’s up! How’s life! Getting the hang of the island already? Pretty cool place, eh? Oh! Hi! I’m Wilhelm! Friend of Benji! You’re all his sibling? I thought you said you only had a brother. Didn’t say you had a sister. Hi! I’m Wilhelm! Oh, wait. I said that already. Anyway, hi!”

++++++++++

Another family that it was quite normal to see arriving on the festival ground was the Park family. If there was a festival that Freja would never miss, it was this one. Well, that one and the Goddess Festival. Those were HER festivals. The equinox and solstice! The two time of the year to honor the goddess and her fairies! How could she NOT be there? She had even camedress for the occasion! Now, while anyone with a little pop culture might think she was dressed as Trelawney from the Harry Potter movies, truth was, it was completely accidental. She had genuinely gotten dressed like that that morning as if it was the most normal way to dress. She was going to commute with the Goddess! She HAD to get her special clothes and glasses on! ”Now remember, all of you. If the Goddess or a Fairy appears, you don’t make any loud noise to scare them off, okay? I don’t want Xochiquetzal to miss her chance to ascend if today’s the day. You all understand, right?” Assenting was serious business. That was why she had made her youngest daughter dress in her best formal clothes! Which made her look like a Witch. As for Xochi, she was dressed as comfortable as possible. She had to be comfortable for when the Goddess would possessed her! Oh, Freja just couldn’t wait.

Maxine was walking slowly, like she always did, holding her father by the hand. She wished that she could have become the goddess like how Xochi was destined to be. The girl didn’t even seem to appreciate it! There only was one thing in life that Maxine would really want and she couldn’t even get it. Life wasn’t fair sometimes. She looked up to her much, much taller father making a small pout. ”… ah… Moon.” It was so large and big and huge and other synonyms like that! She wondered if her father would be tall enough to touch it. It wouldn’t surprise her. ”Can we… go there?” She finally asked him. She wish they could. She’d go on the moon with her father and let Xochi and their mother do their ritual down here. She didn’t want to see it. She was too jealous and it would just disappoint her if Xochi ascended.

Talia & Ian & Gabriel & Benji

Ian, resting against the large trunk of a tree, was muttering complaints to himself about everything under the sun. First, it was too hot, then the people were too loud, then the world was just gone to hell. Nothing could appease this young man. He would have screamed if he had cared less about what the neighbours thought. Thankfully, his need for customers was overcoming him. 'Darn you, Talia.' The man bitterly thought, remembering her comment about getting clients. She was too right. Taking a deep, angry breath, Ian tried to calm himself down. With his fake smile leaking through his lips as his eyes hid behind the glass lenses, he rose. He thought it best to start to communicate with a group of young ladies wrapped in a blanket. Surely one of them had animals that he could later work on, right? He threw away his doubt and wandered over calmly. When he had reached just before their path, he shot a welcoming glace and gently motioned a wave. He kept on a modest smile and a suddle voice as he spoke up, "Excuse me ladies. May I introduce myself? I'm Ian Valhal, a new vet for the island. I was just curious if any of you ladies have any pets? I doing a bit of a statistics collecting so I could make a better business model." Liar. He had just wanted to help get his name out as a perferred vet. It was money he liked after-all, nothing else, and for this money, Ian would fake great lengths of friendliness for a good report and a good reputation.

------

Talia and Gabe were catching up when Benji's attention was caught by a fellow classmate - the boy who had hit him in the face with a lunch bag. Benji had never understood it if was intentional or not, making him secretly fear him; however, he tried to hide it with a weak grin and a calm, "Oh, yeah, hi." He was waiting for an attack, maybe a punch or a rock thrown. Oh gosh, what if guns were legal here? He would most likely be dead within the hour. He was getting nervous, unlike Taila and Gabe who took to the boy with a smile. Gabe started first, "Oh, glad to see Ben is making friends already. I'm Gabriel, his brother and his only sibling. Talia is an.....old family friend." He snuck a quick glace at her with a little grin. It was good to see her again.

Talia slightly lifted her shoulders and smiled with a small bow of her head, "Pleasure to meet you. Why don't you guys go off and play? I'm sure I can handle Gabe. Knowing him, he'll be drunk within the hour anyhow." She laughed while guesturing for the boys to go. She knew they should have their fun; however, Benji took this almost as a chance at death.

Quickly, he swallowed and shivered slightly as he managed a quiet,"Oh yeah. Sounds fun." He was stiff as he turned away from the pair and began to walk awkwardly slow. Benji felt this was best if he wished to go into the fetal position quickly. Yet through his fear and worry, he tried to keep a conversation going with Wil, "As for your question, yeah I guess I like the island. It's, um, nice. Um, not many old people. I like that. Um, not to say I don't like old people, I, uh, just find them...difficult to talk to." He stopped, blushing. His eyes were glued to the groung he was walking on. He dared not provoke any attack on him from any visual contact. "So um, I like your costume. Did it come with a sword or, let's say, a gun? That's um...functioning?" Benji knew he must have sounded like a loon but he needed to know. In truth, he was terrified.

Wilhelm was always happy into meeting more people. The more people he knew, the more popular he was and he just loved to be popular, because, by being popular, you would have more friends! It was a vicious circle of Win! So of course he would be happy to meet Benji’s older sexier brother and that girl who was just a friend. He gave her a little quizzical look for a second, trying to remember if he had ever seen her on the island before, but no, this was the first time seeing her too. She was probably just down for a visit or something. ”Hi Gabri- Gabe and Talhia.” Gabriel was too long to say! He liked quick short names! The shorter the name, the more he could talk before running out of air! Not that he knew that about himself, but it was still the stupid logic that his subconscious gave him. ”Oh, uh, sure! We’ll go over there and you handle drunk Gabe!” Even thought he’d love to be the one handling him! No insult toward Benji, but his brother seemed so much more hot and sexy cool and awesome. Oh well! By being friend with Ben, he could get closer to his brother family.

With a last glance toward Gabriel, Wilhelm followed Benji toward… well, where he was walking. Wilhelm wasn’t the kind to pay attention to silly details like where they were going. It wasn’t the goal that was important; it was the adventure to get to it! Because Pirates loved adventure! Or something. Don’t question his logic. ”Ah! I told you, you’d like it here! The island amazing! And there’s like a bunch of animals that shouldn’t be here but are still here like elephants and monkeys and pandas and panther! So cool! I don’t really understand how they can all survive here, but whatever, crazy mayor, old zoo, animal galor!”, he explained to Benji as they walked… even though no questions on the animal population of the island had been ased. Wilhelm stopped talking for a second, just so Benji had the time to place a word. After 13 years of talking, he had learned that he had to shut up once in a while to have a proper conversation. He didn’t quite understand why they just couldn’t all talk at the same time, but whatever, it wasn’t his place to question society’s rules.

That’s when he notice that Benji was blushing. Oh damn.. why was he blushing? Could it be that he was interested in him? But they had just met! Then again, he had just met his older brother too and… No. No, he didn’t have any feelings for him. HAHAHAH. That was silly. And Benji was probably just…. Just shy from being around someone so popular as him! Yes! That must have been it! Let’s ignore the whole blushing thing and answer questions instead! ”Thanks, man! I love it too! Pirates are so cool! I just love them! Pirates of the Carabeen? Totally number one favourite movie of all time, you have no idea. You’re cool too! I mean, It’s simple, but you have to think about it! And it gives that whole college guy kind of feel! Aren’t you cold thought? It’s night and late in fall and I dunno, I’d be cold. BUT I’M SURE IT’S WORTH IT. So cool. And yeah! It comes with a sword!” Without wasting a moment, he took out the sword from his sheet and waved it around, getting a bit close to Benji’s face with it, yet without hitting him. ”It’s plastic though. Wish it was a real one! Can you imagine? Man, I’d love to have some real sword. So, well, cool! Damn, I think I’ve been using the word ‘cool’ too much lately. Anyway, yeah.”

A new entrance on the festival ground was Eva, dressed like an Egypsian Queen, perhaps due to her love for Micheal Jackson’s music, perhaps because she admired strong powerful woman like Cleopatra or perhaps, more simply, because she loved the hair style that went with it. Whatever the reason was, she was rocking the costume, especially with her tall stature. She looked a bit around the field to see if there was anyone she knew. There wasn’t really anyone but Mei, but she didn’t feel like bothering the woman when she was out with her family. Instead, she walked toward where all the foods were being served. She looked around a bit, finally choosing to grab one of the dango at the Asian food stand (catered by Alex’s restaurant~), mainly because their pretty colours attracted her. Hey, she was still a girl and liked pretty things! Pretty things that she would now munch on while standing near the food stands in order to find something to do.

Chun Fei was getting a little sleepy. She hadn't stayed up this late in a really long time, and as she clung to her mother's hand, she blinked drowsily, her eyelids feeling sleepy. But at the same time, she didn't want to fall asleep. There were so many scary looking people around, and she glanced around nervously before inching closer to Mei. She didn't like it when people dressed up in scary costumes, in the dark, away from her house like this. And she knew she'd have nightmares if she fell asleep in a place like this, surrounded by monsters. Actually, the more she thought of it, the more scared she became. It all just escalated that when someone bumped into her, she let out a loud squeak.

Mei was startled, too, but more because of Chun Fei's loud cry and the force of her youngest daughter barreling into her hip in fear. "Oh!" she exclaimed as she finally noticed Icis, standing there. "Oh, no, it's fine. Are you okay?" she asked the little girl with a delicate smile, patting Chun Fei on the head to comfort her, but the little rabbit refused to move her face from her mother's qipao.

Believe it or not, Kotone was in a surprisingly good mood. She was holding hands with her husband, a gesture that usually made her a little tense, even after ten years of marriage, and with Skyla too, and she found all children under the age of ten unbearably sticky and gross, but she was in a good mood. She liked this festival. She got to dress up in the same princess costume she wore every year, and go out with her family. Even she had to admit, it felt weird to be in the middle of this holding-hands-chain her husband and daughter had put together, but she didn't really care. She was dressed like a princess, darn it, and she only got to do that once a year. And she was going to milk that moment for all it was worth.

Well, she was in a good mood. As Skyla let go, she looked up at her husband, trying to rub off the sticky sensation on her skirt, and she wasn't pleased to see him glance about. He was looking for the rest of the family. "Do you see Reed?" she asked, not hiding any of her disapproval from her voice.

Peter wasn't a part of the hand holding, but he was pretty much okay with that. Besides, it was a little difficult with his costume. He had tried to dress up as a really cool werewolf, but he had very little time to prepare, and he couldn't find any sort of mask that wasn't really scary looking, and he didn't want to frighten Skyla, if that was even possible. So he made do with a pair of wolf ears, and oversized, furry, animal paws. He looked more like a dog or wolf puppy or something, as his mother had pointed out before they left, but nevertheless, he was a werewolf!

As they walked to the field, he looked around for his friends, but didn't have much of a chance to call out to Wilhelm or Erika, because Skyla soon grabbed one of his paws and spoke to him with a smile. Peter grinned down at her. She was just so cute! Weird, but still, super cute! "Dulce looks really good in its costume," he replied kindly. "It makes a pretty convincing dog, too." He glanced over at his step-father with a smile. That was a nice present, he still was impressed. From there, he glanced around in search of the rest of his family. He didn't mind standing with Skyla for the time being, but he wanted to go hang out with Wilhelm at some point, too.

Alex really was unable to make heads or tails of this whole Goddess thing that Freja was obsessed with, but thankfully, it was only particularly prevalent a few times a year. At least, during the Pumpkin Moon Festival, his wife and step-daughter's choice in clothing wasn't entirely outlandish. But then there was Freja's fretting to deal with. "Don't worry, Freja, it'll work out," he reassured her absentmindedly, though he had no idea what 'it' was. He could pretend, he doubted it made much of a difference anyway. Freja would be preoccupied with Xochiquetzal, and he'd just focus on Maxine. That was how it was a good deal of the time anyway.

He glanced upwards as his daughter brought up the moon. It was a cute question, but he always had trouble telling what the girl exactly meant. But after all these years, he had gotten surprisingly good at turning off the judging part of his brain and just saying whatever he deemed appropriate. "Sure thing, Max," he nodded, staring up at the moon. It really was big, it felt like it would be no trouble at all to just climb onto it. ...His family really was rubbing off on him. Glancing back down at his daughter, he was hit by an urge to pick her up. She was too big and too old for that sort of thing, but... dammit, just a few years ago he could pick her up whenever he wanted. And who would tell him when he couldn't pick up his daughter? Last time he checked, there wasn't some sort of rule or anything! Letting go of Maxine's hand, he reached down and hoisted her up -- for all of ten seconds. "This close enough?" he asked with a grin before dropping her back down. JESUS his back ached already. He was getting old! "You know, if you became an astronaut, you could go to the moon whenever you wanted. Wouldn't that be cool?" Hell, if Maxine became an astronaut, he'd buy her a rocket ship. Maybe it'd make Brian stop bragging about his oldest getting into Stanford.

Nothing like being dragged to a strange festival...right? While this being solely Priscilla's idea, she was only able to drag him along with the possibility of food. Neither had eaten all day, and he was getting a bit hungry. The two had just arrived earlier that afternoon, and he figured they should spend the rest of the time finding a place to sleep, not fooling around celebrating the moon...or something. While he had found the inn, he hadn't finished making a reservation before Priscilla took him away. The food better be damned good. Sothen sighed as Priscilla kept a tight grip on his upper arm, making sure he wasn't allowed to escape, which he was quite capable of doing. "Look, we aren't even prepared for this thing; everyone's dressed up." He told her gruffly while running his gloved fingers through his messy hair. Even if he didn't really want to be here, his sister probably was right; they had to meet people sooner or later. Not only couldn't he get over how much grass there was around here, but also how cold it was. How were all the women such poorly dressed? Did the people around here build up some sort of immunity to the cold? While his curiosity wasn't nearly strong enough to stop by and ask one of the girls, he was curious to experience the winter that would come to the island in the next few weeks.

Feeling the grip finally release on his upper right arm, Priscilla wasn't quite finished with him as she pushed him harshly in the direction of the food stands. Sending her a quick glare, he shook his head slightly before walking over to the, what appeared to be free, food. Sothen made sure to appear as if he had a purpose for being there, at the festival, at the food tables, so that no one would bother him too much. Glancing around, it was obvious that many of the people from around town were here, and explained why the siblings hadn't really seen anyone. Facing the delectable, yet mostly utterly foreign, foods, he grabbed onto one of the foods the tall, beautiful woman (Eva) had taken. If someone was eating the colorful stuff, it must be good, right? Taking another quick look at the woman, he noted the Egyptian theme to the outfit. Curious choice... Had she ever been to Egypt? Truthfully, he and Priscilla didn't quite enjoy the place, but he wouldn't hold it against the her. "Hey." He finally said to her while finishing up the new food, trying to be friendly, but only sounding awkward in his attempt.

Priscilla knew she couldn't get her brother into the festival unless she kept a tight reign on him. "It doesn't matter if we are prepared. We're new and should introduce ourselves to some people." She said, restraining the urge to smack her brother on the side of the head. He was 25 years old! She would have thought that by now he would be a little more mature. It was time for little Sothen to grow up a little socially as she pushed him roughly off towards the food tables. It would be good for him to break some of his old habits. "Go. And try to be friendly." She told him fondly in familiar Arabic, hiding a slight smile as he grudgingly went off. Cracking her own knuckles, it was time for her to have some of her own fun.

Another mischievous grin gracing her face, Priscilla found what she believed would be a perfect target: a fellow business man! The man really determined his own doom as soon as she heard the word 'business' come out of his mouth amidst all the chatter from the villagers, and in a few foot steps, Priscilla tapped the dark-haired man, (Ian), on the shoulder to get his attention. "Sorry to interrupt your fine conversation, sir, but I couldn't help but overhear you own some sort of business. What business that is, I'm sorry my ears didn't quite catch that, but perhaps, we could help each other out." The mechanic said with a sly smirk. She didn't really have any intention of helping the man out, but she would like to know the economic situation around here; if he wasn't getting any business, then Priscilla would have to work twice as hard.

Talia & Ian & Gabriel & Benji

Ian's words seemed to fall on deaf ears as the ladies just didn't seem to notice. It didn't bother him, he didn't like people anyways. They were too emotional and wish-washy for his taste. Still, Ian maintained his calm and welcoming composure as the women walked by. He had debated just leaving until another young woman (Priscilla) grabbed his attention. She was a curious one, Ian figured. While his mind was trying to study her, Ian's still face kept strong as his lips moved to answer gently, "I'm a vet, that's it for now. I'm hoping on changing that soon though. What do you think of the name 'Little Paws Pet Shop'? He bared a small grin to his question, not really expecting an answer. Instead, he simply began up again, "Before we get to business, why be rude? I'm Ian Valhal. Yourself?" He slightly nodded his head towards the woman as if in a greeting manner. Ian, being the hermit he was, had failed to pick up on the proper greetings here on the island so he simply stayed to simplicity and hoped it would treat him well.

Benji was starting to become comfortable with Wil; however, that didn't stop him from flinching when the boy brought out his weapon. His mind praying that he would be saved from this terrible fate. He tried to slightly cower away as his red face turned white. Even when he heard the word 'plastic', Benji was still worried. So many things could still go wrong. He could lose an eye for goodness sake! But instead of bringing this up, Ben tried to side track the conversation to the cold comment, "Oh, uh, yeah I guess but it's what it is. I mean, it's cheap, right? That's kinda why...yeah. I uh - don't feel well in it with, you know, all this skin, but, uh, I mean, Gabe thought it was a good idea and he's usually pretty good about this kinda stuff. He, well, does well with women, I think." Ben's mind experienced several small flashbacks of Gabe coming home with a lot of red lip stick on him or him smelling of something sweet. It was honey, Benji realized. He could never link how his brother had so much time for women when he said he worked so hard. It just didn't seem to add up to Ben; however, he could do nothing but believe what he was given. After-all, if he couldn't believe the one family member still alive, who could be believe?

Moving on, between the rapid movements of Benji's eyes from where he was walking to the play sword, he noticed Peter. It seemed that the boy was currently distracted with something; however, so was he when Wil had come to his 'rescue' then perhaps Wil would want to get Peter too. It would at least make him less likely to be hit with the sword, right? More people smaller odds. Without much more thought, Ben nodded his head in the way of the boy and asked Wil, "That's, uh, Peter, right? Does he need saving?" He cautious looked to face Wil, half holding his breath as if expecting to be hit.

The pumpkin festival was one of Usagi's favorites. Dressing up was always so much fun! This year she decided to dress up as Wonder Woman! The costume reminded her of when she was part of a super hero group back in the good old days. Sadly, she had no idea what had happened to all the others in the group. She was also reminded of that time when she was saved by a hero! However, those were stories for a different day as now was not the time to focus on the past. Instead she would be focused on having fun and maybe completing her mission to find a Caleb.

Keeping up with her older sister was Mitsukai who was dressed as a fairy. Like her sister she also enjoyed this festival, though she wasn't very fond of the cold weather. While she had tights on to keep her legs warm she couldn't help but wish that she had also brought a jacket. Maybe if she was lucky her mom would go back to the house to get one for her, though she doubted that would actually happen. Speaking of her mom, where was she?

-----------------------------

Also at the festival was Ai who was dressed up in a sailor costume. Too bad Waffles wasn't still around, he would have made such a cute little sailor piggy. On another note, Ai sure was enjoying the cooler weather. She was pretty excited about winter coming up too. After all, winter meant bundling up in warm clothes, having fires, drinking hot chocolate, and best of all snow! She smiled at the thought as she looked up at the moon, it was always such a pretty orange color during this festival .

Hearing that the fields would be the best place to see the moon during the festival, Holly left the church for the fields. She was carrying a model AK-47, and had two bullet sashes around her. Holly wasn't too keen on costumes, not wanting to dress as anything other than a nun, making her options very limited. It was a strong tie between putting on a beck and being a penguin, or getting a toy gun and being a battle nun! The decision was easy.

The people in the island all looked very friendly, but she didn't normally see any of them in church. They couldn't possibly be that friendly either, at least not yet! Holly approached a nearby girl, who was dressed up as Wonder Woman (Usagi) "Hello, miss Wonder Woman?" Holly said to the superhero, bowing politely. "Could you please help me?"
_____

Being new in town set up certain expectations that one would have for the new substitute educator of the island. They would judge him poorly if he were not to show up and attempt to be around others in a social setting. Everyone will see him going to work and think; "Hey! I've never seen that person before and he lives in the woods? We shouldn't allow him near our children!" Next thing he knows, there will be a mob at his door and demand that he leaves or face being stoned to death. He simply could not have that. Roger hastily made his way to the festival wearing a Darth Vader costume. Having the full costume completely defeated his purpose of being recognized as a social and friendly person, but it was the only thing he could come up with in such short notice.

Dart Vader was quickly walking to the field, wanting to get there before too many people showed up. If he saw more than a handful he would probably become frightened and walk back before someone saw him. Roger slowed down his pace, seeing as he was power walking like a weirdo at night, and past the Li family. He stopped dead in his tracks once he did, having caught a glimpse of the young Jian. But his sight only caught the boy form behind, spotting only the outright horrifying appearance of a dragon! He yelled out behind the child. Almost an instant after he yelled out, he noticed the child's hands, and was overwhelmed in embarrassment. Only death would make Roger less embarrassed, but he couldn't do that. So he did the next best thing, he ran away.

Roger kept running until he noticed no one was nearby. He stopped and looked around him quickly to make sure that the nearest people were in a comfortable distance, before sitting down on the grass with his legs crossed. Now all he had to do was think of what to do next, while staring at the moon above. Everyone's costume was making him uncomfortable quickly, he would take a break from staring at the moon to look behind him a bit, to see who was dressed up as what. So far a lot of women were in outfits that intimidated him, and a seventeen year old boy seemed the most interesting. But he couldn't go talking to teenage boys, he would seem like a freak. Instead Dart Vader stayed on the floor, playing with some grass and flowers while he looked up at the sky.

Wilhelm looked at his plastic sword, poked it twice and pouted. It was cheap alright. Well, he got what he paid for, he supposed. No, wait, he didn’t pay for it, his mother did… Or father… Someone older than him and who actually had money. Wilhelm pretty much always got what he wanted, not that he was spoiled or anything, but it would have been fun to actually have his own money for once. He could buy things he would never find the courage to ask his parents for! Like… like.. well, he didn’t know. He never had that problem before, but he was sure that it would happen one day and he hopped to have an actual job by then! Which wouldn’t be for another five year or so… Hey, he was an hyperactive teenager who wanted money, it didn’t meant that he wasn’t also lazy. He just wish he’d get it without having to work for it.

”Yeaaaaaah. I guess you’re right! Cheap old thing! So, it’s just you and your brother, right? Like, there’s no one else? Just you two? I guess not since you just said it was popular with the ladies….” Strange… why was he suddenly feeling disappointed? Oh, whatever, some silly stupid teenage hormone making him feels weird probably. Nothing impotant that he should lose sleep over… which he’d probably do anyway. ”What’s his job? Must have a good one to make you two live, no? I mean, he seems pretty young, but I doubt working as a grocery clerk would pay for both of you.. Unless you live in a crappy house. Do you live in a crappy house?” He asked Benji before realizing what he had actually just said. He threw both of his arms in front of him, waving them from left to right as in to defend himself. ”Oh! No! Nononononoo! No! Sorry! Rude! So Rude! Didn’t mean to ask that! Ignore me, I’m stupid! Stupid Wilhelm!” He gave Benji his most sorry look. He didn’t want to lose a friend right after getting one! That would be horrible! Why hadn’t he thought twice before talking? Why had he even talk! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Now Benji would hate him and not talk to him and tell everyone how much of a jerk he was! Why couldn’t he just be properly nice for once instead of being so stupid! Gah, he should just go kill himself right now.

Wait? Had he just talked about Peter? He looked in the same direction that Benji was pointing in. Now, while he didn’t see which one in the group was his friend, he could easily tell that his mother, Kotone, was there. She was hard to miss with her silly princess costume. Sure, Wilhelm had been wearing a pirate costume for as long as Kotone had been wearing a Princess one at the festival, but princess were silly, unlike pirates. Because Pirates are cool. Yeah. Cool. Back on subject. While he didn’t see Peter, he knew that his friend was one somewhere around that group, but no way he was going to go see him with his mother there. He really didn’t like her. Instead, he did the most logical thing the forteen year old could think of: Scream. ”YO PETER! BRING YOUR a** HERE LIKE RIGHT NOW!” Maybe if Peter Joined them it would divert Benji’s attention away from how rude Wilhelm had been. That probably wasn’t enough…

It was then that he spotted Avian and his large bucket of candy. ”OH MY GOD. CANDY. “ Without wasting one more moment away from the bucket of hard sugary goodness, he ran toward him, grabbing a huge handful of them and shoved them in his mouth. Well, after removing them from their packaging, of course… well... Most of them. ”Be’hi, you wan’ ‘ome ‘andy? I ‘ing you ‘ome!”, he asked his hopefully-still-new-friend as he grabbed two more handful of them and brought them over. Tribute of friendship! That should solve everything, right? Right!

Maxine loved her her papa paid attention to her… mainly because it was the most attention she ever got. No one else gave her attention. Well, mama did give her some, but it never was as much as she gave Xochi, which still made her sad in her little heart and soul! Subconsciously, at least, because, on the surface, she didn’t seemed to care much, nor did she thought she was. As she was lift into the air, she threw both of her hands up as high as she could, hoping that they would touch the moon and waved her foot a fast as she could, in a weird impression that it would make her go higher or faster or something. Don’t ask her, she’s not the brightest of the kids. As she touched back the ground, she was a bit disappointed that she hadn’t been able to touch it. It was probbaly because she wasn’t tall enough even with papa lifting her like that! She had to grow higher! But then, Papa made the most amazing suggestion. ”…As…tro…naut?” She asked him with her usual sleepy-like eyes… eyes that didn’t stay like that for long. Soon enough they grew wide. REALLY whide. And Astraunot. Planets. Stars. Moon. Universe. Travel. Yes. That was it. At that very moment, Maxine Park, 11 years old (or something) , had made her decision. She would become… AN ASTRONAUT. ”I want!”

+++++++++++

All logic would have told Eva that she shouldn’t be a loner and go mingle with people instead of eating some asian food, especially when the people she spent the most time with were a crazy receptionist, a mad doctor and two crazy twins, but maybe, for that very same reason, she was happy to be alone for once. Not being around some crazy people was just as relaxing as being around sane ones, after all. As she began to bit on the second dumpling on her stick, she noticed a man, Sothen Talking to her. ”…Hey.”, she replied back. She wasn’t being rude or anything, but when all you gave her was a ‘hey’ that’s all that she would give back, especially if she didn’t know the man. What was he dressed up as, anyway? A mechanic? Looked like a Mechanic. That was an odd choice of costume to come with. In fact, it could even insult any mechanic that would be at the festival! Thinking that he was making fun of them and not taking their jobs seriously. Then again, being a mechanic was such a crappy job that it should be made fun off. Oh well, even stupid people had to work and someone needed to repair the water cooler at the clinic every once in a while, no?

+++++++++

While most people at the festival ground were being generally happy and having fun, a certain someone wasn’t quite so happy. In fact, she even was angry. Why was it that her stupid twin sister be the one to take care of him! He was all vain and pretty and charming and pretty and good looking and pretty and attractive and pretty! He should have been hers! Not stupid Chrysanthemum! Ah, yes, the tiny little fairy, hiding away in the trees was quite annoyed over the fact that one of the new comer to the island had been assigned to her twin sister! Out of all the fairies, why her? He should have been hers! Or Lavender! Because she knew that Lavender would give him away in a heart beat if she ever was to ask for it. There was only one thing to do. She had to get revenge! She didn’t quite know how she would get revenge, but dammit, Orchid was a fairy with magical power, she’d figure out something!

Talia & Ian & Gabriel & Benji

Benji would have been insulted, if he had ever been in anything than a small broken down house. To him, a crappy house was a cardboard box and he was certainly not in a cardboard box. Just a small little shack on the outside of town with only two rooms. To him, two rooms was like a bonus room and a room for everything else. What else had he to really understand? Yet he shook this thought as Wil began running to candy. There were more important things in life...like candy, even if he was almost an adult by now. That didn't stop him from running behind Wil where he went. He started to lag with his frail body and let the younger boy keep running. Benji felt a pang of disappointment until Wil came running back with several other pieces. Ben smiled and lightly laughed. The kid was nice and he was really starting to warm up to him and his cheery attitude. Mind you, Benji found his incesant talking a little much sometimes. Still, the boy accepted the candy happy and uttered a "Thank you." before shoving a few in his own mouth.

He took after Wil's behaviour and began to talk with his mouth still somewhat fun, "Wan'a sit dw'n for a bit?" He closed his mouth in a grin as he pointed to a little spot of grass. In truth, he was a little tired from running. He didn't really wait for a reply and just plopped onto the grass, swallowing his treats. Finally, Ben decided it was time to address the earlier questions, "Oh, um, don't worry about the question. We, well, live in a good house. It actually has like two whole rooms so things are pretty good. You should come over sometime. We could have like, a bonfire. Gabe says I'm the best at making them." He smiled to the boy before looking away to the crowd and answering, "Yeah, it's just me and Gabe. We used to stay with Tally and her family for a while but Gabe said we had to go. Our, well, parents died when I was young. Starvation or, well, I dunno. Let's just ignore that for now... But back to Gabe. As for what he does, I really dunno. Never really ever told me. I...I think he's upset about it but, well, um, yeah. What can I say? He does a good job whatever he does." He wasn't sure how to face Wil after that truly honest conversation. He half wondered if it would be too much for the fourteen year old boy.

------

Talia was completely content with staying wth Gabe. He just reminded her so much of their good old times as kids, as well as his amazing body. There were so many things she would do to it had she the chance; however, all that faded when a man came running by. She was only able to see a turf of brown hair before he was completely passed them and on his way away. For some reason or other, Talia found this as the perfect oppertunity to meet someone new so she politely excused herself from the conversation, leaving Gabriel alone, to chase after this man (Dart). Finally, she caught up. The man was sitting on the ground fiddling with the grass. Talia saw no better time to drop down beside him and smile, "Hey. You okay? You were really running." She looked to the man, hoping to get a positive reaction.

In a rare occasion of family gathering, Kip had ventured out of his small, average home with his children in tow. The man held a cigarette in one hand, dragging on it slowly and methodically as he looked at the people who were coming and going to this festival. He knew for a fact he wasn't going to enjoy it. Too many kids, too dark, and he didn't enjoy the moon very much. The festival itself was pointless and the costumes were a waste of money. Lucky for him, his son didn't believe in costumes and his little girl was content with her box. He was still mildly surprised by how.. colorful it had turned out. Ed always preferred shades of gray and black over colors and it was Ed who had been left in charge of getting it done. He shrugged it off, though, not really caring what his daughter was dressed as or anything of the sort; she was a giftbox. That was normal. Get on with it. He drew in a drag of his cancer-stick and looked to Ed, pausing as they finally made it to the edge of the field. The entire trip had been done in silence and Kip didn't make an effort to change that as he turned and left the kids with nothing but a still-lit cigarette butt he tossed back at them rather carelessly.

Ed didn't make much of a reaction as it bounced off of the corner of Vi's costume, looking down at her as she stared at the ground. He shifted his eyes to the festival. Morgan wouldn't be here – it was too late at night, he was pretty sure, and there were probably hundreds more things the redhead could come up with as an excuse to stay wrapped in plastic sheets at his home. Quentin was only a choice when Morgan was involved and he doubted the boy would be at the festival anyway. This was stupid. Ed didn't know why Vi's sudden shout to go out to see the moon with her friends had actually been heeded this year, but he stopped trying to figure out why his dad did anything years ago. He waited until he saw Kip had went to stand against a tree, smoking on his next cigarette not a second after he finished his last. They would be expected to interact. He gave a light push to the back of Vi's costume, the little girl bouncing forward with a withheld laugh as she almost toppled over. He moved to her side and set a hand on her head, “No.” She gave him a look as he started with that, but he didn't react to the irritation in her eyes as he went on monotonously, “There's candy –

Candy!” She cried out excitedly as he said that, turning on her heel and hurrying off in search of these confections without a word of protest. Ed watched it with an arched brow – in a few years, that would never work. But, for now, he guessed, he would let it be. It was useful, anyway. He sighed under his breath as he looked around for someone to talk to – anyone. There were a few people standing around seemingly by themselves with nothing to do, but he had to make sure it was someone he would at least be able to bare. No one like Quentin. He looked to the women around the area and caught his eye on someone who was dressed in the most ridiculous costume he had seen yet. A fairy. Fantasy. Stupid. She seemed to be around Ed's age group and, like it or not, he couldn't keep his own thoughts to himself as Ed headed straight for the fairy (Mitsukai). He stopped infront of the ridiculous woman and greeted her with a, “Fairies aren't real.” Probably obvious to anyone in their age group, but, well, Ed's aunt seemed pretty convinced there was a secret underground organization of mole-like people bent on destroying her. He wasn't sure what was 'normal' to believe and what wasn't.

On Vi's end of the area, the little girl had eventually located the giant pumpkin with candy~! She smiled widely as she ran up to it, her previous wants to bug her daddy vanished in the face of a huge bucket. She had come up to the bottom of the bucket and then went immediately to – oop. She paused as her hands had come just before hitting a chocolate bar she had her eye on. That was.. weird. She wriggled her fingers about – yes, she couldn't reach them. Definitely. Vi tilted her head as best as her costume would allow, backing up a pace and then hurrying forward to.. rebound off the side of the bucket. She staggered backward a few paces with a look bordering on outright panic. She couldn't reach the candy! No candy meant no sugar and no sugar meant no dessert and Vi didn't like that. She turned around to find Ed, but her brother was lost in the crowd. She felt a tear well up in one eye as she turned to look for her daddy, but she couldn't see him either! She was lost with nothing but a giant pumpkin! A giant pumpkin that was big and probably soft! With Vi feeling herself heading towards crying, she turned on her heel and hurled herself right into the giant pumpkin man (Avian) so no one could see her cry. His costume wasn't as comfy as she had pictured it to be, but, well, it was good enough to whine into and she liked holding onto bigger boys like this!

Xochiquetzal had come out with her family that night, oddly feeling quite awake. Normally, she would be even more asleep during this hour than any hour, but tonight held some significance for her. The power of the Goddess was strongest during the full moon and especially powerful at the field. It wasn't unusual for her to come out here, half awake, and going to sleep against the shrine found here.. But, then, Xochiquetzal could be found sleeping anywhere around Nirvani. She had such random sleepy spells it was.. unusual, but.. ghosts didn't work on a mortal schedule. Xochiquetzal could sense no ghosts now, however, and she assumed the Goddess wasn't fond of them. That was the only reason why they wouldn't come out to play when there were so many people in costume – ah. She raised her brows as she looked again at the people at the festival – of course. They were out, but with mortal forms to enjoy the earthly realm once again. They must be using the energy of the deity to do so.. “....The trees..” She mumbled with a look at the foliage, staying close to her mother. Maxine could play astronaut like a normal child with her step-father; Xochiquetzal had to remain serious and prepared beside her mother for when the festival was in it's epitome. In the meantime, she enjoyed feeling the cool night air in her nightwear.

Speaking of trees! High, high, HIIIIIGH in the air, away from mortal eyes, the little metal fairy, Ilex! The creature was really enjoying himself that night, especially when it meant he could see all of his favorite followers – well.. not all.. since everyone on his watch list were his favorites! He had trouble deciding who could possibly be better than the others – but, he could see who was doing better. The blond hovered beside a branch, staring down at Yoakim, one of his longest running followers, and then over towards Alex – oh, they were both so cute with their families! ♥ Even if one of them was just putting on airs.. It still counted! Yep! He giggled to himself and twirled in the air to see – “ORCHIIIID~!” He screamed out, which really was a squeak without any powers to amplify his vocals. Orchid would surely hear it, though, and, if not, then she would feel him crashing into her to give her a big totally not grope-y hug! She always smelled so nice~! “Hey, Orchid! What are you doing?” He looked down at the people below the little fairies, gasping as he caught sight of the one. “Oh, isn't that the mortal you wanted but didn't get because Chryss wanted to too and she won?” He slid down to her side to stare openly, “I think he'll be a good wood follower!

Off far away from the pair was another fairy, sitting on a branch with a frown. She didn't like these mortal gatherings – especially not this one. None of her followers ever seemed interested in dressing up or coming to these.. ah. She raised a tiny brow as she spotted three of hers among the crowd. Interesting. Hyacinth supposed this wouldn't be such a waste of time if she had someone to watch out for. She knew pretty well that the other fairies tended to use this entire 'freedom night' to mock each other through tomfoolery. Hyacinth wasn't the type to start such 'battles' and, instead, remained quiet on her own. Tensions were high this year, however.. she was unsure what may happen.
