In a rather uncharacteristic fashion, Wambazi had stayed away from her own den for the whole night, choosing rather to stay with Aysu and, since Aysu had decided to go to his den, Uncle Kivuli. She seemed to be getting more out-going by the day, and she knew why, but she saw no reason to tell anybody else. She had decided to leave late in the morning, headed for the waterhole to get a drink and see if she might find her sister.. and curious if anything else loud and interesting was going on. Aysu had refused to join her.
She made it to the waterhole uninterrupted and settled in by the water's edge, drinking silently, not yet focusing much attention on who was around her.

When you were born in a pride and lived there your whole life, you generally knew who was who. So of course he recognized Wambazi, even though she wasn't someone he usually saw around. The question of the day was...what was a Princess doing at the watering hole? Getting a drink, idiot. The white lion snorted and shook himself. There were, contrary to popular belief, other places to get a drink in the pride's lands. They weren't as big or as social, but they did exist. He was sure Wambazi knew of them, because it was quite rare to see her out here. He considered going up to her, asking why. But he really wasn't up for causing yet another scene before the next moon phase. Yareha wasn't really interested in being the center of attention. He just had strong beliefs and was unwilling to stray from them. That's what he told himself as he got a drink of his own, eyes never leaving the Princess.

Seated by the water, Wambazi finally propped herself up and took a look around. It was late in the morning and many lions were busy now.. but certainly not all of them. She wasn't terribly surprised when she spotted Yareha around- though she was a bit unsettled that she caught him staring at her. Did he know she'd been here yesterday when he had a shouting match with Aysu? Or that she had followed after Aysu, ultimately taking her side in the whole situation?
They weren't quite in conversational distance but he could have been able to hear her. So she cleared her throat, eyes still on him.

He'd been watching Wambazi again when she looked up and they made eye contact. Embarrased, the white lion flushed and dropped his gaze to the water. Nothing worse than being caught staring. Then he heard the worst noise in the world.
His cousin was clearing her throat.
Yareha gritted his teeth. There was no doubt in his mind whose attention he wanted. And however rude he might have been to Selene the other day, Wambazi was still a Princess and he was still supposed to come when she called. He considered refusing to acknowledge the summons. But, as he'd already decided, another scene was not at all what he needed.
So the white lion levered himself to his feet with a sigh and padded over to the blue lioness before settling down again. He wasn't going to ask what she wanted. She'd either get to it in her own sweet time or not and he wasn't going to put his paw in his mouth yet again.

She could see that he didn't really want to talk to her but he came over anyway. It almost made her feel bad but there was no way of knowing why he chose to come over to her. She was a princess, she was older than him and she was his cousin. Those were all good reasons in their own ways, though she'd have been hurt to know it was her title that made him come over.
"Good morning, Yareha," she said, "Back to the waterhole so soon after the scene you caused yesterday?"
Wambazi was smiling despite the jab. She didn't mean it maliciously- if you could joke around with anybody, it was family, right?

The white lion growled inarticulately. It was not the question he wanted to hear in any form whatsoever. Nor was it a question he cared to answer. Then again, neither was "where were you last night?" He'd done his duty early this morning, yes, but yesterday afternoon Yareha had tried to chase down Ieiunium.
He'd caught her too, but she'd still left. And that probably hurt most of all.
It annoyed him that Wambazi was smiling when he was not at all in a good mood. At least he didn't have to pretend to be happy. But he was not going to answer the question.
Instead, he went back to his interrupted drink, leaving his growl the only answer she was going to get on the subject.

"That's OK, I didn't really want to talk to you anyway," she said, taking his growl as a sign he was really pushing himself just to be anywhere near her. Wambazi wasn't particularly fond of him, she barely knew him and the scene with Aysu hadn't done him any favors.. but he was family and she was willing to be nice.
"I wonder who else is around," she murmured, looking around them thoughtfully.

Now he was insulted. He'd come over in answer to her unspoken demand and now she didn't want to talk to him. Yareha's first reaction was to shout but, as Wambazi had already pointed out, shouting at the water hole two days in a row was not high on his priority list.
"The same people that are always around at this time of day," he retorted. He didn't add the obvious - that she would know who they were if she as around more. But he didn't doubt that she'd hear it.
Hey, at least he wasn't shouting at her or anything like that.

"No, I disagree," she said, continuing to look around them, "The grumpy green fellow, he doesn't look like he'd enjoy coming here too often. And Uncle Njiru and his mate, but I suppose they have more free time now since.."
Man, this wasn't a very happy topic anymore. And she wasn't with very happy company. Maybe it was best just to abandon all efforts to make nice with her cousin and just move on now.
"There's Ladon and Tien-lung," she said, making an excuse for herself when she spotted two of her brothers, getting to her feet and glancing back to Yareha, "It was nice talking to you, Yareha."
Yes, she had to be polite. No matter how miserably this had failed.

Yareha snorted softly to himself after his cousin left. Since he wasn't going to be a happy little chatterbox, she didn't want to waste anymore time on him. Well, that was just fine with him.
The white lion got to his feet once more and stalked off. In his current mood, it was probably best that he find some quiet and private place to brood and otherwise be alone.
