It's not that she made bad decisions or that her life has been filled with misfortune, she was just born into the most aggravating and idiotic family known to man. And yes, her name really is Cherry Garcia. Her parents, both just teenagers when she was born, were complete retards and decided it would be funny if their kid was named after an ice cream flavor. It was funny for a while, but once the joke wore off, their poor daughter was left with a name that would haunt her for the rest of her life. Do have any idea how hard it is for potential employers and government workers to take you seriously when you have a name like that? Naturally, she goes by Natasha. She's gone to legally change her name, but it's never really worked out, she's too busy.
But really, it's not her parents that gave her the most trouble. Although they were young and completely unprepared for parenthood, they did the best they could and aside from her name, gave her everything she needed. No, it was the extended family that she really couldn't stand. Her grandmother was obsessed with babies and children, and really was a woman of her generation in that she didn't feel right unless she had someone to care for. And so Cherry's mother was the middle child of seven. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, and so Cherry's aunts and uncles all married and reproduced as well. Family get-togethers were a horror to poor little Cherry, who couldn't handle all the aunts and uncles and cousins in one place. And so she detached herself from them as much as she could. Especially when Christopher was born.
Cherry already had six uncles and aunts, and when she was nine years old, she gained another. The exact science behind it has always baffled her, mainly because she's still to disturbed to give it much thought or research, so all she knows is that when she met her fifth uncle during her tenth birthday party, she burst into tears and spent the rest of the party crying in the jumpy house. And when Chris, five years old, told a fifteen year old Cherry that she should start calling him Uncle Chris, she mentally checked out and refused to talk to any of them. And it would have continued, if her grandfather hadn't died and her grandmother, now a single mother of a surly teenager, hadn't had that huge breakdown.
And so Cherry, the only one without children or tickets for a three-week-Alaskan cruise (as was her parents' excuse) was asked to take Christopher for a short while, until they could think of a more permanent solution. And that is how Cherry Garcia became the guardian of her uncle, a situation that still makes her brain hurt. She had already been living on Nirvani for a year or so, and she had little choice but to try to adjust to having a roommate.
She has a mild case of OCD, and needs everything to be medically clean in order to fully relax. She also has a few other small rituals, like touching the doorknob of each room she enters, and prefers to do things in even numbers.

He had seven siblings, most of whom had children already. None of them had been particularly excited to have him join the family, mainly because his mother was no longer able to naturally conceive. Roslyn Caldwell was a baby machine, not unlike those crazy religious freaks on that show Nineteen Kids and Counting, or whatever number they're up to now. And she started early. She was only twenty when she had her first child, twenty-five when Natasha's mother was born. She was only forty-two when Natasha came along, though she had been a grandmother for years before that. You'd think that after having seven kids, she'd be quite content, and would instead focus her love for babies onto her grandchildren, right? Nope. Because when she was fifty-two, she decided that she needed one more. She had heard of post menopausal women who were able to have children with the help of a doctor, and soon enough, she was pregnant again! Of course, her children and grandchildren were horrified, but didn't say anything. And that was the world Christopher came into.
His childhood was bizarre. Although his siblings and nieces and nephews warmed up to him eventually, since it was easy to pretend that he was just another cousin, once he was able to talk and understand his role in the family, they all treated him a little bit like an alien. Not to mention his parents were much older than those of his playmates. Really, they just didn't have the energy to handle a little boy like him. His seven siblings had all been relatively easy to care for, mainly because they all helped raise each other. But Chris was more of an only child than anything else, since his siblings were so much older, and so he grew up spoiled and rambunctious. He really didn't see much point in befriending his family members when he got older, and spent more time breaking things in the backyard than interacting with anyone. Cherry was the worst, as she couldn't stand to be in the same room as him, and so he made it his secret mission to torment the teenager as much as he could, from a distance, of course.
Not long after Chris' fourteenth birthday, his father passed away. It had been difficult enough caring for him with the two of them, and his mother struggled to adjust to being a single mother. Her other seven kids had actually been pretty mildmannered and easy to care for, despite a teen pregnancy here and there. Blunt, rude, and Asberger-y, Christopher was too much for the old woman to handle. On top of it all, the loss of her husband was a huge emotional blow. By the time she was nearing seventy, the stress was having physical tolls on her body. She withstood it for as long as she could, but all of that pent up stress erupted into a huge nervous breakdown, which led to her spending the weekend in the hospital. So she asked someone to take him for a while. The rest of the family declined, and that's when Natasha's mother suggested that the new college graduate take him in. Probably the only reason Christopher accepted the arrangement was because he was too attracted to the idea of messing with his niece to pass it up. And so he packed up his things and moved out to the middle of nowhere to live with a woman who was obviously horrified to have him around.
He calls Cherry by her real name, rather than Natasha, much to her displeasure. He says it's because he doesn't believe in nicknames, but they both know it's because it irritates her.
