Zaid danced to the sound of a poorly sung melody, trying his best to look serious even though he wanted to laugh. Lately, he had been spending more and more time helping out with the Nursery; something he could do without having to leave the Jungle. Subsequently, that meant one thing; babysitting. He loved it! Those little buggers never failed to bring a smile to his face, even when that meant dancing to some stupid song they just made up, and bouncing around like an idiot.
So long as they were safe, as far away from that damn Ocean as possible, he was more than happy to play with them.
"Now front paws!"
"Front paws? What do I look like, a baboon?" He chuckled, "How about back paws instead." That one he could pull off without too much trouble. Sure, it was hard to balance, and now his back hurt, but it made him look a little manly, right?

Talise had been enjoying the time since the tsunami more and more. Mostly it was due to the appearance of the mountain coated stranger, but she would never admit that though the slight flush of her cheeks at any teasing would easily give away her feelings. She was definitely crushing. But how could you not love a male who tended to the cubs like he did? Smiling the lioness stretched out and watched as Zaid played with the cubs. He definitely was good with them.
Still today was her day.
Grinning at the memory of what she had finally talked him into the lioness sauntered over towards the male, “Sorry guys, but I’m gonna steal him from you.” With a couple of ‘no fairs’ the lioness smiled at them, “Don’t worry. We’ll get him to do some really cool tricks later.” That won their approval. Laughing softly under her breath Talise looked up at Zaid nervously. Well he did promise…kinda.
“Ready to go?”

Zaid had to admit, showing off for Talise was doing wonders for his demeanor. It wasn't unusual for Pesars, even some Pads, to act that way where he was from, but he liked to fancy that what he did for her was special. He was trying his hardest to make everything she did for him worth while. That way, when he eventually left, she might think good things about him, instead of pondering what she could have done with all that wasted time.
"Sorry guys, but you know how she is." He teased with a shrug, ruffling one or two of the laughing little heads nearest him. Zaid padded away from the little group, his nervousness only showing to Talise and not the cubs. "No," he grinned sheepishly. "But I'd rather get it over with. So," he exhaled, and started walking. "let's go, turtle butt."

Laughing softly under her breath Talise gave one last smile before turning away from the cub “Oh you’ll do fine. I promise.” She whispered to him with a wink. Well at least that was her hope. Surely since some time had passed since Zaid had been washed ashore he would be more at ease with seeing the ocean. Still her gaze flickered with worry. What if?
No. She just had to stay optimistic. Nodding to herself the lioness nearly missed the lion’s tease. Not much one for being mean the lioness wrinkled her nose at him, “Alright mountain top.” Brushing past him as if she had given a really cool reply Talise went on ahead through the jungle. As she walked past the last tree sunlight hit her fur warming it. Closing her eyes the lioness basked in the warmth before the breeze brushed against her. It was such a wonderful feeling.
Looking back at him the lioness smiled encouragingly as she took the first steps out into the warm sand. Stepping forward she eagerly placed her paws on the damp ground and waited for the waves to gently wash over them. Turning she looked back to Zaid and nodded towards him.

"Oooh, girl, burn," Zaid licked his claw and rubbed it out on his arm. The fluffy young male kept a cool pace behind Talise, trying his hardest not to watch her backside. It was a nice distraction from the looming ocean, but how long could temptation hold back fear? He looked down, his eyes vaguely following her tail tuft along the ground.
What if it swallowed him again? Would the water burn his lungs? Would he be able to swim? Could he swim? Had he ever been taught? He could vaguely remember swimming lessons with his mother as a cub, but Avatefeh had always been better than he was, so would he- Zaid shook his head. So not the train of thought to have before battle.
Death was waiting for him across the sands, and to face it would be to give honor to his brother.
Zaid swallowed his apprenhension and tentatively walked towards the water. The closer he got, the more he wanted to run away and it showed. More than once he had to stop just to take a deep breath, but onward he went. When the first little ripple crossed over his toes, he jumped back. "Okay, well, I'm wet, so we can leave now, right?"

“Pfft.” Talise rolled her eyes at his response before walking out into the bright sunlight. As they had walked towards the water her thoughts had stayed with the male behind her. Would he really be true to his word? Her hazel gaze flickered to glance behind her and Talise couldn’t help smiling. So far so good…now hopefully he would stay with her through it all. The swimming lesson that was! Cheeks flushing the lioness focused on the water lapping at her paws. Cool, calm water. Exactly how she should be right now.
“You’re wet and not dead.” Talise replied with a small laughter as she circled around him and gave him an encouraging nudge back towards the ocean, “Look we’re both here and so far no water monster has come to grab us…I’ve been to the depths many times and still am here.” Her gaze searched his, “So you’ve got to trust me with this. I won’t let the waters take you…” She grinned, “You do know I dragged you out in the first place so I’m definitely not letting it take you back~” Her heart beat in her chest at the meaning in her words. No matter how many times this male…she would never let the ocean claim him from her. She would go over and over as many times as she needed to and drag him back all over again. Even if another tsunami raged she would be right there swimming next to him, “Life would be too boring without ya that is.”
Stepping back into the waters she splashed a little towards him, “We won’t go deep promise~ So please come out here? We can play together in the water like we’re cubs for once.” She jumped about in the shallow waters and dropping down rolled about in the sands before pausing with her paws reaching out towards him, her gaze pleading.

"That could change." He didn't mean to be morbid, but it was the truth! Just feeling the waves cresting against his dark legs sent shivers of dread down his spine. Zaid was not a mentally strong lion; he had seen things in his life that would break most, and it had done it's number on him. Right now the only thing keeping him near the water was Talise's gentle coaxing, and even then he wanted to bolt.
"Eh he, I'm pretty sure that was your mothers work." He grinned weakly, taking little hesitant cub steps towards her. "One step, two step, three step - s**t!" Catching himself, Zaid felt his paws dip into a natural crevice and he had to close his eyes to catch enough air to get his lungs working again. Opening his eyes, he couldn't help but to give the same tell tale smile that his mother had worn so often. That soft, understandingly happy smile when looking at the person one loved most. "Can't have that, can I? I'd never think about making you bored, wouldn't want to lose that spark."
Zaid shivered, and just as instantly cringed again. "Hey, happy paws, keep those splashes to yourself! I'm trying...just...give me a bit." He couldn't ignore such a cute face, but it was like being tempted with a sweet meal over a pit of fire.

Her expression softened in understanding, “Not while I’m on watch.” Talise nodded her head firmly before allowing the waves to rock her body in the waters. Her gentle spirit was easily reflected in the slow tides. Everything about the ocean spoke to her, just as it did with her mother, and the lioness was just as playful as the waves then just as calm the next. Right now she was calm as she kept an eye on her precious ‘cub’ that she was teaching. As nervous as he was she was doubly so. If she messed up then he would never be able to forgive the ocean! The thought just broke her heart because she wanted Zaid to understand the ocean’s love and the many adventures that could be found in its waters.
Pouting she looked at him, “Only cause you were too stubborn for any other mwani to take care of you. And I still had to be the one to drag your heavy hide in from the waves.” Her teasing words faded as he slipped and immediately she moved towards him before pulling back as he caught himself. Oh thank the gods he was still here with her. She was so happy that he was trying so hard. She knew it was tough on him, but here he was being as brave as Zaid could be.
Chuckling softly she beamed towards him, “I’m glad you think that way. Looks like I’ll never get a dull moment then.” As she moved through the waters Talise approached Zaid’s side as a comfort and peered at him, “So far so good. I wonder how I can encourage you to move out further then?” Slowly ever so slowly a mischievous gleam came into her eyes.

Like most lions who had joined, to Zaid and the rest of the pride this little admission into the sea would be as good as his rites. It was a sign he'd accepted the ocean and all it held for him. Still, he feared it; loathed it in parts, because of what the water had done to him and his kin, but for Talise he would keep going. If he was to care for her he would have to tolerate this liquid hell for a little while longer.
"You know, if you're trying to boost my confidence, you are going about it the wrong way," He chuckled nervously, putting one paw in front of the other. Zaid made it up to the point where his mountainous pelt was almost hid in the waves, and stopped as she came closer.
The little minx was baiting him, and he loved every bit of it. "A big meal? Hmm, a lazy afternoon? New shells? Ooh, like the ones worn by Kiku, those big nice conch shells." Zaid teased, opening his mouth in a brighter smile to go along with the act. "Something pretty match my eyes."

Talise only laughed at his comment, “Now why would I try to do that?” She smiled mischievously towards him as her paws scraped against the water covered sands. As much as it was a hell for him the lioness was finding it hard to be comfortable staying in such shallow waters. Normally she would already be out amongst the waves where she could trust her paws to carry her through the deeper waters. But for him she stayed here and she would stay here for as long as he needed her.
Tilting her head Talise waded around Zaid as if contemplating, “Lazy afternoons should be normal to you~” She teased quietly with laughter in her gaze, “But if you want some sparkling shells I can find you some.” She padded through the waters and bumped his rump gently with her own, “Figures get a male out here all alone and all the guy can think of is making me dive for shells.” She beamed towards him, “But I always get to dive since I’m one of the best~ Gathering beautiful shells are too easy though Zaid...”
She peered up at him ever so ‘innocently’ , “You’ll have to think of a bigger challenge for encouragement.”
