Tomlin was tracking. There was something in the night air, a bright presence. He wasn’t entirely sure who – an Eternal, maybe, though he didn’t think it was one of his. He’d sensed it from some way off, and had followed the energy signature to the leafy edges of the city’s big park. The guardian hesitated when he started to get close. Whoever that was, they were strong, but if they were powered up it could mean something was going on, some kind of trouble. Investigatory mode engaged, Tomlin headed in, camouflaged orange in the fallen leaves.

It wasn’t Europa, or any of the other Eternal senshi he’d seen about. The cat crouched down in the grass several feet from the source of the powerful aura, head cocked to one side, not wanting to intrude but still curious now he’d come all this way. After a moment, he gave up lurking and jumped up onto a park bench to get a better view of the unfamiliar senshi. Of course, that put him in full view himself, but if he was going to spy he figured he should at least be up-front about it.

If the city held one thing for Castor, it was freedom.... in it various forms. So it was both one thing yet many, none the less Castor reviled in it. His status as prince was not only powerful, but lucky. He had what many senshi simply didn't or wouldn't know. At least about their past selves.

Tonight he had been planing to go to his second home and just spend the night. But when he'd beein going to where he was to 'beem up' he'd picked up on a youma. At first he thought it might have been two, but quickly, he'd found the culprit and dispatched them like a pro. The park was safe one more, and he didn't think to check for any other presence.

He certainly didn't expect to have been tsalked by a cat at least. Turning to walk off, Castor saw the familair mark of the forehead star. "Well, uh-" New cat he didn't know? Oh well. "Sup cat?"

At first Tomlin thought the senshi wasn’t going to notice him - which was not necessarily a bad thing, it looked like the man had things to do. It hadn’t been his intent to interrupt, just to see who was about tonight. Still, it was nice to be acknowledged, even if the senshi seemed perplexed by his presence. And that was fair enough too - he didn't look like he was in any immediate need of a cat's help or guidance. If anything, he could probably tell Tomlin a thing or two about the negaverse, but the ginger cat wasn't going to admit that, at least not outright. He was new, not stupid. And this was catching him up.

“Hey,” he returned in greeting, luminous copper eyes taking in the senshi’s uniform with open curiosity. “Nice night. Any trouble?”

Leaning to his side, Castor huffed. “The usual. Youma running wild and trying to eat people. Negaverse trying to stab us in our sleep. True we now got Ares and her merry band of alternate universe evil corrupting senshi, but all things considered, could be worse.” He motioned to where the youma was. “We could have had a huge great youma stomping about in a modern remix of Godzilla, sans bad acting.” Half meant in jest have serious. Sooner or later the damn negaverse would have another youma from hell. Just a matter of when and where.

Walking over the cat, Castor reached out his hand before- “Er- sorry.” Cat didn’t exactly shake hands. “I’m Prince Castor, senshi of hail. I’ve been around a while but I don’t recall ever seeing you before.” Arms crossed he thought back to the last senshi meeting. “Then again, that was a while back.”

Tomlin cocked his head to the side, listening to the tirade without interrupting. It sounded to him like this senshi needed some kind of holiday, or at least a friendly ear. Not all the quick-fire references made sense to him, but Ares’ name he recognised from his team’s first meeting. The leader of the mirror-corrupted, the newest threat in an arsenal of threats. That he could at least be knowledgeable about - Kallichore and Europa had had a lot to say on the subject. As to the rest, he would have to take this senshi’s word on how bad things had become.

“All that, huh? Busy night,” he replied, sarcasm for sarcasm, though his tone was mild. “It can always get worse. But it can also always get better.”

He wouldn’t have minded if the senshi had tried to shake his paw, or pat his head, but he was not offended when the hand was withdrawn. So this was Castor. He’d heard that name mentioned at the Jovian meeting, too, but the title in front of it was a surprise. The cat stretched out his front paws in front of him, lowering his head and raising his tail high – a feline bow.

“Honoured to meet you, prince. I’m Tomlin. I’ve been... out of town.”

Castor was a bitcher, but, he tried to not be bitchy all the time, (he’d leave that up to others). He smiled as the cat introduced himself. “Tomlin. It’s cool and seriously, don’t sweat the prince stuff. Half the time I’m sure I got to bullshit my way trhough things. “ It was laughed off. He didn’t feel that important really. “It’s all cool though. I guess you can say it’s just straining, what with the civilians showing up in space, Ares pulling side switch, of course the general ******** of being a senshi.” That did pose a question.
“I don’t suppose civilians go running when they see you cats. Just meow? I dunno. Civis man, half the time they’re cool, the other half they like to run around screamin bloody murder.” A shrug. “Eh.”

Walking over to lean on a tree, Castor didn’t think about the fact he was lingering. Anything smart would stay away wouldn’t it? “Out of town though? I don’t suppose you’re run into senshi outside of Destiny City have you?” He had no idea if this was the only town with magical wars going on. The News was always twisting things. “It would be cool to get some contacts outside and all that good stuff. Maybe find out what Ares and the General Queens and King are up to beyond city limits.”

“Civilians try to put me in cages, and ship me off to the middle of nowhere,” he said sourly, flicking his tail. He wasn’t sure if that was better or worse than what Castor had experienced. But there was no point getting worked up about it, he was back now. “What were they doing in space?”

He was surprised at the interest his unplanned road trip sparked. He’d taken it for granted that anyone with a car had probably left the city before, but it seemed senshi with their protective duties might not have roamed so far. It was a great pity he didn’t have any particularly interesting stories to tell from the journey – nothing helpful, at any rate.

“No, I didn’t find anyone. It was a bit rural.”

He’d kept an eye out, though, waiting for an unawakened senshi to turn up, or signs of youma, dark energy. There’d been nothing, no-one. He hadn’t felt even a hint of it until he’d made it back to Destiny City. Maybe he hadn’t been looking carefully enough. Maybe it was only Callisto’s energy he’d been trying to follow. But there’d been nothing out there. He shook his head, sorry to disappoint the senshi who sounded like he so very greatly needed some good news.

Oh well then, that was certainly not very fun. Being a cat certainly had its’ downsides put into that perspective. “s**t, cages? If people only know what they were doing sometimes.” If they did Guardian Cats might become science projects. So well… maybe it was better civilians didn’t know. “As for them in space, that’s an answer I’m afraid nobody knows. A few awoke as Chronos Knights, other got corrupted by Ares. It seems plausible that they we put there by some magical force but that still doesn’t explain who, and why. Many had nothing happen to them, so to say they all had a magical purpose is easily debunked by that.” It was riddle so far no one had been able to solve.

“To bad about no senshi outside of town. It’s hard enough here, reaching out? Who knows. This city is like a flame to both us and them.” Them being the forces of Chaos. “Anyway, I don’t suppose you’re connected to anyone? I think a few cats have specific people while others… kinda lone around?” Though he wasn’t thinking to feel for it, there was a flicker of darkness on the edges of their senses. Not weak, but well hidden. They had final attracted a bit of attention.

“I guess they thought they were helping,” the cat said, with an approximation of a shrug. It was surprisingly easy to talk about it now, and that gave him the luxury of giving the animal shelter workers the benefit of the doubt. They hadn’t known what he was, or how important it was that he be here in this city. They hadn’t actually hurt him. And it wouldn’t happen again. Erika would come looking for him if he vanished for too long.

He filed the information about the space battles away for later. The mysteries of the universe were not for him to solve, but it was still worth knowing the theories, especially if this Ares was active in space. Knights good, Ares bad. “So are they still up there?” he asked, glancing up through the overhanging tree branches to the night sky. He attributed the faint twinge on his senses to the thought of those poor souls lost to corruption.

“Callisto is my senshi,” he said, pride shining in his voice as he latched onto the change of topic. “We’re with the Jovian Court. Do you have a team?” Did princes even need teams? He didn’t know.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 21, 2011 11:44 am

Castor shook his head before looking up. “No, they managed to return safely, and to our knowledge, no one knows the identities of any of the new knights. Not Chaos side anyway. Downside is no one managed to see just who got corrupted, else we’d have gone after them by now.” A blessing and curse of the glamour. “Callisto? I know of the Jovians; Europa leads if I am getting my facts right. Hopefully, you guys will end up a little better than the Bastards.” Which was a bucket of fun and a half. “And no. I was offered back to join the Bastards but I pretty much ditched it right after. I don’t do very well in teams, let alone in groups. I was an a*****e then, still one now.”

He’d make no excuses for who he was. Honest, if to a fault. A twing at his senses snapped his head over to a small area thick with foliage. “hey Tomlin-“ He kept his gaze at where he’d felt that energy come from. “If you can feel it too, I think we might have to cut out conversation short.” A rattle from those same bushes. “Think we might have company.”

"That's good," Tomlin nodded, eyes still turned to the black of space above. Safe civilians was good news. And if the corrupted ones couldn't be found, at least they were alive. By the time the prince tracked them down, perhaps there'd be a way to save them, too. Purify them. Push back the darkness, till their stars started shining again.

"Senshi of Solitude," he clarified, when Callisto's name didn't seem to meet with recognition. Mention of the Basterds drew the cat's attention back to ground level. So Castor had been one of the ones Europa had spoken about? That was interesting. "Not all teams work," he said. "This one will. Europa is doing a good job." He fixed Castor with a stern orange glare, suggestive of the fact that any unkind words against Europa would not be tolerated. "Maybe you just haven't found the right group?"

Between the rustle of fallen leaves and the other night noises, lurking behind the senshi's bright aura, Tomlin slowly registered the dark tainted energy Castor had spotted. He arched his back up into a spine-defying loop, a very slight hiss escaping between his teeth. ""Oh. That will be a youma, all right," he agreed, claws sliding out to leave scratches on the bench beams.

His gaze was still at the distance, the outline of the youma just in his vision. "I don't need a group." Rather, he didn't want one. He liked being his own and being able to work on his own. Less mess to him, less time he'd have to spend worried about others close to him, (which actually was pretty illogical all things considered).
The monster was waiting for them to move, look away. It had all the time in the world. Thankfully, so did Castor. "Or rather, I join a group and I get bitchy. I never took well to orders." Understatement. Take i few steps he watched the youma's head turn to follow him. Good. "You better go run back to your hiding spot. If there is one that picked up on us, I don't doubt others might have as well." He didn't feel any, but it didn't mean they were not there. "You cats aren't meant to fight, just guide. I can keep 'em busy while you escape. Sound good." There is was. Just behind the other.

The cat made no move to run or hide, his fur fluffing up further in an angry ripple, however the glare he directed was not at the half-hidden youma but at the prince himself. They had, after all, something in common - Tomlin didn't take orders well either, and it showed.

"I can fight," he snapped, and his claws tore scritchy lines down the painted bench wood as he held his ground. "Who are you to tell me not to fight? I'm a guardian, I guard."

Never mind that this was a senshi, and a royal one at that. Never mind that a youma (possibly more?) was stinking up the place with chaos energy. It was his job to remain by the senshi's side, whether they liked it or not, and he wasn't going to go into hiding like some civilian!

He didn't wait for the senshi to argue with him, but launched himself off the bench towards the shadowy youma, tiny claws outstretched against the darkness. Unfortunately, as Castor had already worked out, the thing tracked movement. A dreadful limb rose up with startling speed, catching him mid-leap and batting the cat away to land curled and dazed and crumpled in a deep pile of fallen leaves.
