It was a cold day in the swamp, and Humble was not thrilled.
The blue buck did not care for the cold, especially on a day like today, when it was also muggy and just the slightest bit windy. The cold humid air was the worst kind, it seeped into your fur and kept going to your very bones, and made you shiver even if you were burrowed somewhere trying to keep warm and keep the draft out.
Not that it was getting to be late in the seasons, mind you - it was simply a colder day than most, one that most could probably ignore and go on with their business. But no, not Humble. It was stuck in his brain.
He had a small bit of wisdom, enough to remember some knowledge he had been taught as a babe. One such piece of wisdom stated that one of the best ways to stay warm, barring the availability of a nice pile of heavy dead leaves or a tiny cave, was to run a lot to get one's own body temperature up.
So that's what the miserable buck was doing - flinging himself around in the middle of a dry patch of land, bucking, tearing about in circles, and generally trying not to think about how cold he was. Which of course meant that it was the only thing on his mind and he was FREEZING.

Not many kimeti were out wandering today; on cold days like this, though some could ignore the cold or the wind, it was still pretty rare to run into more than one kimeti, if any, while out wandering. Citrine Twilight, however, had found herself in need of nourishment, and had ventured out of her more-protected home grove to find a water pool and some berries. Sadly, while she had been drinking, a gust of wind had speckled quite a bit of her fur with water, which was only making her colder as the wind continued and her muscles tensed against it, to no avail.
At this point, she was doing her best to hide behind trees that would shelter her from the wind as she made her way home. The water on her coat had probably dried, but it didn't much feel like it (perhaps some of it had iced over). The trees were providing her little shelter, too, which was not helping her case. Despite the fact that the wind was mostly coming from one direction, the air seemed to travel in a curve around each tree trunk, and she could never quite escape some cold rush of air; and now and then the air would shift from direction as it so chose.
Peeking her head around another tree trunk when the wind seemed to take a break, Citrine looked about as if she could see the air should it start again, before making another break for it, waiting until she felt a bit more natural breeze before she found another tree to give her shelter. Granted, the running was causing a bit of an artificial breeze as it was, but at least she was getting home faster, right? As she peered around the next tree, however, Citrine Twilight caught sight of something thrashing beyond some trees ahead, in a bit of a clearing. Curious, she stayed behind her tree and watched for a moment, but hid again when another wind kicked up. Once it seemed to calm, she looked out again, and finally began to step in the direction of the jumping being.
Peering about, she came to the edge of the clearing and watched what she now confirmed was a buck, romping about in the clearing. She tilted her head a moment, wondering what he was doing. Such excited activity... after a moment watching, she finally decided to just ask outright.
"What are you doing?" She stepped a bit behind a tree as a bit of a breeze blew by, though it was brief, and she wasn't about to completely hide herself.

The blue buck did not notice the doe's approach, so as she spoke, he was mid-air in a kick and nearly missed his landing. His limbs sprawled out ever so slightly, and he looked at her with wide eyes for just a moment... but then straightened himself out and grinned, his eyes dancing with laughter.
"Oh! Hello! I'm terribly sorry, I was just trying to keep warm." His smile grew, until he thought over what he just said, (which was completely nonsensical at first glance but made more sense as one thought of it further), and then it faded as he explained himself.
"Movement gets blood rushing faster, all this exercise will eventually warm me up.. at least, that's the idea." He eyed the female for a moment, then his smile returned. Another to speak with! He loved company! And such a pretty doe, at that.

She did feel a little badly about interrupting his... dance? She hadn't meant to throw him off, especially not so much as to possibly cause him to topple; she hadn't really thought much of this consequence. Luckily, he did not fall over, landing on all legs, sprawled as they were. She chuckled, but bit it off after only a second.
"Why sorry? No need to be sorry." Citrine Twilight smiled. At his explanation, the brown-and-yellow doe tilted her head slightly, taking a step out from behind the tree. As he went on, she nodded in some small sort of understanding.
"Though, should you exercise too much, you will begin to sweat -- and sweat is meant to cool you." At this, a gust of air blows through the grove, and she hides behind the tree once more, squeezing her eyes shut against the sudden blast. As it dies down, she shivers and stamps the ground trying to warm herself a bit with movement.
"And on a day like today, cooling yourself is perhaps not the best option." She smiles and hums. "I am sorry for interrupting your movement -- I did not mean to disrupt; I can leave you to it again, if you like."

Wow... He hadn't thought of that. He shuddered at the breeze, bracing himself as it blew against him.
"You're right. I hadn't given much thought to that..." He chuckled, a bit embarassed. He wasn't a dumb fellow, but he certainly should have thought things through before jumping around like a maniac. "I guess the cold numbed my brain!"
He paused, perking his ears up as she apologized.
"Oh no, you don't need to go! You certainly aren't bothering me." Besides, she was lovely, and he was bored and a touch lonely. "Perhaps you'd like to walk with me? The movement might do us some good... without sweat to go with it!"
