Chander dragged his paws on the way back to his den. His attempt at Iei couldn't have gone worse. And that Yareha didn't help either, messing with his mojo. He wondered where they were now. Yareha probably rambling about something boring to the poor girl, he thought to himself. Why couldn't anyone have a little fun in this pride?

I suppose with all the stuff happening lately, everyone is concerned with their class, he reasoned. Damn. Truth be told, Chander wasn't too concerned with his placement in the Lower-Middle class. He knew that if he were to marry he would take the rank of the female, so really, he could class jump if he wanted to. But that meant marriage. Which meant one partner. Chander couldn't do that.

His mind wandered to his old life in the rogue lands. Whilst females were certainly harder to come by out there, they weren't as... inhibited as those he'd met here.

Which was a shame. At least in his opinion.

Wambazi was out and about, trying to keep up with everything that was going on around the pride but not really taking part much herself. Truthfully, she had been alongside her sister in applying for the role of Historian. She wasn't sure how they decided and she wasn't upset at her sister but she was a little disappointed. She had long been thinking she needed to do something with herself. She just never did.

She was sitting out in the midst of the land, near a path that lead to and from the waterhole- it was a good place to watch everybody go. She saw many pride members walking around but she never approached them. When she saw Chander walking by, looking rather unhappy, she stared, wondering why he looked so down.

But she wouldn't get up and ask.

Chander glanced around to see what others in the pride might be up to. Then he noticed the blue female. Was she watching him? That could be a good sign. She was pretty too.

Almost immediately he seemed to perk up, after all, Iei was just one lioness in a sea of many, and here was another. He wondered if she would be, as receptive as Iei, if she was even receptive at all. But at least, he hoped, that he'd he'd be better this time around.

He smiled and waved a paw. He was going to say something along the lines of, Like what you see? But seeing how the direct approach went earlier, perhaps it would be better to not try so hard.

She wasn't terribly surprised when she was spotted, it was hard not to notice when someone was staring at you sometimes. She was surprised, however, when he actually perked up and headed her way. That was a good thing, wasn't it? He looked much better happy.

"Hello there," she said, "You look better when you smile. Are you OK?"

Wambazi smiled at him, only intending to be nice, having no idea she was feeding his ego.

"Thank you," He smiled, trying to be as polite as he could. On the inside though he was cheering. It was always a good sign when a female thought you looked good. Score!

He had to hold himself back from saying something about her looks right off the bat. Sometimes that didn't go down to well, and he didn't want to strike out right at the start of the game.

"I am now," he replied, a little softly. Perhaps the pity card might work?

She couldn't help but smile at him, playing for pity seemed to work quite well on her. Wambazi could see or think of no reason to trust what he said, he really had looked down before and good company could do wonders for cheering you up! Right?

"What happened?" she asked, shuffling her paws a bit, "I mean, if you don't mind me asking."

It seemed to be working. Chander was growing more confident every minute, though he didn't show it on the outside. He didn't want to put her off or scare her away.

"It was nothing, just a rogue who didn't take kind to my welcoming." That was one way of putting it, purposely trading the word female for rogue, and welcoming for advances.

A little truth bending never hurt anyone, right?

And that was definitely, in her opinion, a valid reason to be down- even if it sounded like she was getting a very condensed version of events. The truth could go in all kinds of directions from that statement but she trusted that was an accurate summary.

"I wouldn't take it personally, rogues can be unpredictable and narrow-minded," she said, covering a couple big bases she figured could come up in conversing with a rogue, "You seem perfectly nice to me."

She knew being nice didn't always mean much, but it should.

"They're not all bad," he said, "I was one, after all." He wondered what she would think about this. He knew some of the lions in the pride didn't really like rogues. He hoped it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

"Thanks, you seem nice too." He said with a smile.

"Oh, I'm Chander by the way." He said, realizing he hadn't even introduced himself.

"Oh well," she hesitated, "That's different. You're not a rogue anymore."

Suddenly she felt kind of bad- she didn't want to take back what she said, but it was different. Now he was a member of the pride. And she couldn't fully recall the story of all recent members but he looked like one of the lost ones.

"I'm Wambazi," she said quietly, smiling but otherwise not saying anything. She was still recovering from putting her foot in her mouth the first time.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Wamabzi." He smiled back. The name was not familiar, but then again, most names of the pride members were not. Sure he knew those who had travelled here with him and his family, and the immediate royals, but there were still many more to learn.

"What brings you here, Wambazi?" He asked politely. It looked like he was going to have to put in some more effort if she wasn't open to talking anymore. Besides, perhaps she was on an errand, or was off to go hunting. Then he'd be able to tag along. Hopefully.

She was pleased Chander was still smiling, it was a good sign he hadn't been put off too much by her remark. That was all she really needed to perk back up again.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, too, Chander," she murmured, smiling once again, "I was just watching everybody walk by, sometimes it's nice to see what everybody is up to."

She glanced past him off in the direction of the waterhole. Nobody else was really right now, it wasn't helping her story very much.

"It's usually busier here," she added.

He laughed. There didn't seem to be much opportunity for lion watching at the moment. He was the only one about. "I'll take your word for it." he joked, hoping that she wouldn't be put off by his comment.

"I'm actually quite surprised it's quiet. Not that I mind. More time to talk without being interrupted." He wondered if his comment was too bold. Or perhaps she wouldn't mind, or think nothing of it. There were always so many variables to take into account why trying to get a girl.

Wambazi kept on smiling.

"I suppose you're right," she said, it was kind of strange to her that he might want to stick around and talk to her, she didn't have very many friends outside of her family. But she had never really given any of them much of a chance.

"Was there something you wanted to talk about?"

Awkward but she didn't know what to say.

Perhaps this was the moment he'd been waiting for? Or maybe it was too soon. Chander was nervous now. Would she want to spend more time with him? It had been so long since he'd had the company of a female, he was feeling very rusty at the moment.

Maybe now wasn't the best time.

"Not really," he said. "It's nice just to have the company of the other who isn't family." It was the first full truth he had told. It wasn't that he disliked he family, in fact it was the opposite, but it was nice to get to know other, unrelated lions.

"Your very pretty, by the way." He added, though he didn't look directly at her. Okay, he couldn't help it. He had to have a go.
