The third room was damned near pitch-black; Catching Fire had to carry a glowing mushroom in his mouth to be able to see at all. But because of this, the room was filled with things that brushed by kimeti, just like creepy things moving in the night.

Moss and reeds jutted out from the walls, confusing vision and brushing past heads and ears, touching kimeti unexpectedly. Moss dragged from the riverbank was slippery and gross underfoot. He dragged in an old tree stump, rotted enough to be nearly rubbery: perfect for kimeti to bump into (and then, hopefully, bump into one another).

The last trip out netted him some more of the eerily-glowing mushrooms. Putting them under a carpet of twigs and grass made flickering light, just barely bright enough to see, dance all over the sides of the cave.

If he could convince Sandflea to stay in here, maybe the sand dog's panting would add to the creepy, scary feel. Heavy breathing in the dark? It made his skin crawl.

User Image Night calmed the doe's impetuous nature, kindled acceptance and a willingness to -- well apparently to explore caves. She had moved through the throng of bodies at the front and taken the first path into a another room. It wasn't because she was opposed to company but there were too many. She found it hard to manage her attention among more than a few. At least when she was willing to share it at all.

The room she had wandered into seemed empty and darker than even the pitch-black of night save for a glow that may or may not have been there. It was faint, splashing lightly against the walls, that it might have been all in her head. Her nose wrinkled as her hoof came down onto something slick and wet and -- "Gross..." She moved forward and felt something brush against her alert ears. Ohmotherfatherhelp. She swallowed a screech of surprise. "Wh-what or who," she tried to strengthened her voice by taking a deep breath, "is in here?"

User Image Miss smiled as he walked into the damp, dark room, breathing in the musty, wet smell of swamp-weeds. He anticipated the first squishy step as his gaze tried to adjust to the flickering light, just barely enough to illuminate the place so that doubtful forms danced on the eye.

Effective. He felt around with his hoof as he stepped, looking about for a place from which to scare that fetching doe he'd followed in, wanting to test how true her claim to fearlessness was.

Havemercy had leapt into the room and immediately hidden behind the rubbery, rotten tree stump to wait for the orange buck who she had met in the cave's entranceway. If he thought he was going to scare her, he had another thing coming. She wasn't afraid of anything.

Have chuckled softly to herself as she waited, crouched in the slime and moss, for the buck to follow her. She could feel Rook shivering nervously on her back and hoped the mongoose wouldn't start chittering scoldingly at her like he tended to when he thought she was doing something that would get them into trouble. Pawn, on the other hand, seemed to be enjoying this, and peeked up over Havemercy's head to see past the tree stump, her little eyes shining in the dark.

It was soft and making her itch. Not being able to see that well in the room, Wings Sleep moved a bit further, hoping to find a rock to scratch her shoulder on.

She shivered with the imagined feeling of a thousand tiny crawling things on her, but pressed on to find out what was in the room. The sounds of outside had faded to almost nothing, but there was new music in the cave. Her movements were sure and graceful, even when she hit the log. A soft "Ouch. Why would someone put that there? as she brought her nose closer to the log and turned around to get a better look. The glow of the mushrooms must be playing tricks on her eyes, but no... There was the orange buck that sired her children. There was no mistaking that color.

User Image Miss kept perfectly quiet as he searched around, relying on the damp weeds to dampen the sounds of his hooves on the ground. Still, the eerie green glow was getting more and more visible as his eyes adjusted to the near-pitch darkness, and he knew his pelt would practically light up with the fungi's peculiar light. He knelt down behind a dark shape, figuring it to be something to bump into, and waited quietly, his gaze darting around like a dragonfly on the surface of a calm pond, as he waited for a shuffle, a squeak, a chitter, to give the female away.

Miss grinned when he heard another female come in, and stumble around. Maybe he wouldn't be able to hear that fetching gold-and-orange quite so easily now, but if he kept from being bumped into, maybe she could do the finding for him.

At the sound of the purple doe's voice, Rook, who had had quite enough of all this creepiness, thank you, let out a little squeal of fright and leapt from his perch atop Havemercy's back. The mongoose ran under the hooves of the purple doe, chattering scoldingly, all the way out of the cave. He would wait at the entrance -- this was all far too much for him.

Have cursed under her breath as the mongoose gave away her hiding place, but decided to make the best of the situation and scrambled to her feet, jumping out from behind the rotting tree stump at the orange buck. "Boo!" she shouted, and slid to a sudden stop, Pawn, her other mongoose, sliding off Havemercy's head at the motion and going flying towards the orange buck's face.

User ImageMischief could be blamed for a great many faults, but inability to think on his hooves was not one of them. Just like when playing the flower-bouncing games, he leaned over to scoop the mongoose up back into the air. The small creature was falling, or rather, flying, with rather more weight and speed than even the weightiest of flowers, though, so it wasn't quite his fault that he miscalculated, and bounced the creature up instead of merely stopping it's fall. He stumbled about a bit, the slippery vines and weeds on the damp stone floor not giving him enough purchase to stay quite upright as he scrambled to get the small creature balanced atop his head.

In spite of himself, he was rather impressed when he actually succeeded to catch and balance the small animal in the end, even though it had taken quite a bit of bow-legged and sprawling skating about in the wet weeds to do it, even though he very nearly ended up on his rump a couple times.

"Well, I think I win this round, seeing as I caught your, err... projectile, close calls regardless..." he hazarded, inclining his head slightly, then quickly tilting it back as he felt the mongoose's weight shifting. "Sorry," he said to his passenger, almost wincing at the thought of how bad he would have looked if he'd botched it all by dumping the small mammal... especially after pulling off that trick.

It was hard to tell, and it seemed like the mongoose was yelling at her for frightening it. Looking up to see what the fuss was about, Wings Sleep found out that another mongoose was flying! It came off another doe and seemed to be going straight for the buck.

She had to move around, just to stay out of the orange bucks way. Her hooves slipped around in the moss and vines, but never failed her on keeping her balance. The purple doe couldn't help but laugh at the show. "Are you part of the haunting?" She really didn't think they were, but it would make the room a bit funnier. Wings Sleep turned to the orange buck, "You know, I remember you to be a bit more graceful."

User ImageMiss turned to look at the purple female, resisting tilting his head slightly as he examined her and her interesting stripes. Her claims to having remembered him threw him for a moment, because he was certain that he'd never seen her before. Not that that was necessarily a good thing.

"I think you must have mistaken me for some other buck," he informed her. "Because I'm sure I'd remember someone as colorful as you.

"As for the question of grace, well, how often have I had the chance to practice catching a mongoose that's been thrown at my head in a wet cave with slippery weeds strewn on the ground? I'd say I did pretty well, considering."

User Image Now that her eyes had grown accustomed to the dark the room made a little more sense, not that she had a chance to examine it. There came in quite suddenly a buck and two does, though it seemed she has not been noticed. She watched the antics and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. They all looked ridiculous: hiding behind stumps and lunging out, balancing a mongoose, bumping into logs...

"Yes, considering, but you still looked ridiculous," Fleeting as the Sun spoke up then. She didn't mean anything by it, it was simply a statement. He had looked ridiculous and she didn't fault him for it at all. She was sure she would not have managed even half as well as he had and thought, truly, he'd done a marvelous job of it. All the circumstances accounted for anyway.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Doom slipped through the entrance, past the fanciful acha and kimeti, her brethren’s loud echoes masking her soft steps. Darkness engulfed her. Loud breathing of others announced others. Step, step, squelch, step, splat, step, step step, SLAP. Yeah, Doom wished she could blame it on the sensory overload, but glowing pile in the corner or not, whatever was touching her was most unpleasant. And oh god, the smell. Like something rank and slimy. It reminded her of the watering pool big animals would go to die. Or perhaps she just wasn’t keen on getting slapped with oh so cold, wet stuff in the face. But here, she was in her element. Relishing the shadows, she sinked deeper into them, weaving to and fro. Further she ventured, deeper into the chamber toward the glowing mound.

And just like that, the heavens parted and a savior in the form of something soft and fluffy crossed her path. Oh it was glorious and just what she needed. She burrowed her dirty face into the soft fluff, both semi-orgasming at the softness and cleaning her face of the dank muck. Nevermind what hid in the dark.

Havemercy watched the orange buck's antics with her mongoose, rather in awe of his dexterity. True, he looked pretty silly, but he didn't drop poor Pawn. And he probably had a few claw-scratches on his head for the effort. And he hadn't seemed frightened by her sudden appearance. All in all, quite impressive.

"Alright, Mister Orange, I give in, you win this round. But don't expect me to go easy on you again! Here, Pawn, I'm sorry," she said, the last bit directed at the mongoose that was clinging tightly atop the buck's head. Have leaned in and stretched her own head out for the little creature, which leapt across to it's master and resumed its perch between her horns, a bit shaken.

Havemercy looked around the cave at the buck and the other two does, squinting to see them in the dim light. She hadn't yet noticed the curly-haired newcomer at the cave's entrance. "Sorry about that!" she continued, chuckling a little and not sounding very sorry at all. "It's nice to meet you all. I'm Havemercy."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. She had to give him credit on account that a mongoose flying at one in such a slippery condition does not happen often. "I concur. You are most correct about it. Maybe more practice and you will make it an art form?" Wings Sleep smiled softly. Her grace would of allowed her to fall on her rump in the middle of the logs.

She turned to the other doe that spoke up. Her coloring made Wings thing of a fire burning and thought the doe very pretty. Looking back at the other two, "A contest? Oh, did I ruin the effect with coming in here?" She surely could have, with hitting that log and just oh...Wings felt horrible now. It was her fault that one mongoose ran out, it made sense to her.

In the midst of her concern, she heard the red doe mention her name. "Hello Havemercy. I am Wings Sleep."
