Name: T’nus
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Rank: Weyrsecond
Former Craft: Weyrborn
Personality: Like Azimuth, T’nus is doggedly persistent. He also does not demand respect, although he gives it, up to a point. He encourages free speech and welcomes competition. He considers himself no more above criticism than any other rider. He is a friendly, passionate guy, whom it’s hard to make yourself an enemy of. He tends to meet aggression with even more friendliness, and his persistence often defeats even his harshest critics. He is known for charging headlong into every obstacle. In his mind, there is no such thing as too great a challenge.

He is highly protective and loyal to his friends. However, in his loyalty, he can have a very ‘us and them’ mindset that overrides his usual desire to be friendly. If you’re on the ‘us’ side, he couldn't think of you as an enemy if you tried. If you’re a ‘them’, he may start with respectful and friendly attitude towards you, but any perceived attack on the ‘us’ would be met with defensiveness bordering on hostility. And the distinction is highly situational; it could be in wing rivalries, between Weyrs, or just his family.

As a wingleader, T’nus was detail oriented, a perfectionist, and an obsessively hard worker. Azimuth was able to see the bigger picture. Together, they ran a well-organized wing. T’nus was well-liked as a leader. He doesn’t sweat the small stuff, so he never seems needlessly strict. The only complaint from his wing was that he tends to get them into more trouble than necessary. T’nus is one who jumps full force into anything; extra duties, volunteer missions, or side projects. He doesn’t even realize he’s doing it sometimes, it only seems natural to him. However, he often bites off more than he can chew, and relies on his wing or his friends to help, inadvertently volunteering them as well.

T'nus is an active and innovative thinker. He was never a fan of traditional learning. He prefers to think outside the box. But because his ideas can be so off-the-wall, he takes his time and thinks carefully before speaking, and always runs them by his thoughtful and cautious dragon first.

History: T’nus was born into Fort Weyr, to a brown and green rider who, in the absence of thread, didn’t see the harm in starting a family. He was fostered by an elderly cook, but both his parents played an uncommonly heavy roll in his upbringing. As such, it was no surprise little Turnus wanted to be a dragon rider, just like his mum and dad. He Stood several times with no success, but on his fifteenth turn, it was worth it when he impressed to the already massive bronze Azimuth.

As they grew up as weyrlings, T’nus was a popular prankster, and, although he had no close friends, was friendly with everyone. His dragon, on the other hand, was unusually fixated. He didn’t know why his bronze liked the sharp little green from the new clutch so much, but apparently there was something in her that only he could see, and as they say, the dragon always knows best. For T’nus the attraction didn’t come as quickly as his dragon. He found the sweet, shy girl from Southern Boll to be pleasantly different from her dragon, but little more. She was patient and considerate, and although she never asked for help, she was always grateful for it. Before long, they were like best friends. Whenever he wasn’t doing anything, the first thought that came to mind was, ‘I wonder where Xenith and Lavi are?’

After Azimuth caught Xenith, Lavi was a little more awkward, but T’nus tried his best to keep up their relationship as it was before, and it seemed to work. They graduated from weyrlings into riders and the two of them stayed friends. In the end, it happened without either of them really noticing. One day, T’nus just realized that he couldn’t imagine his life without Lavi. Although neither wants to make a life-long, 100% commitment to the other, Azimuth and Xenith have been steady weyrmates for several turns now. Azimuth still chases golds, of course. Xenith always gets back at him by teasing that she won’t let him catch her next time if he does, but she rarely goes through with her threats.

Shortly after Azimuth's clutch was promoted, a new wing was formed of all young riders, mostly weyrlings from his clutch or the one before it. An older bronze rider was put in charge of the wing at first and T'nus, who had shown good innovation and leadership as a weyrling, was made wingsecond. Less than a turn later, the older riders were phased out and T'nus took over the wing. When Lavi's clutch graduated, she transferred into his wing too. Perhaps because they were all young, the wing became an innovative and energetic fighting unit, which T'nus put through the ringer when it came to drills and work-shopping new manoeuvres. In the time before thread, he was looked at as being a little too strict, but no could argue since he did three times the work himself.

When thread started, his leadership was put to the test. But with Lavi as a strong pillar of support from within his wing, T’nus proved he could handle the pressure. Azimuth got frequent threadscoring, usually while shielding someone from his wing, but his thick skin meant that he always recovered fast. However, in a recent fall, T’nus was caught in it and his left arm was badly burned. Since Ista is famously a great place to recover from injuries, it was suggested that T’nus go along to heal, and stay there after as a transfer.

Upon arriving at his new Weyr, T'nus found himself in an altercation with the weyrleader at the time, an unusual situation for the usually-well-liked bronze rider. Despite that, he had a chance meeting with the boy who would become the next weyrleader, and made a somewhat better impression. When the fresh rider was looking for an experienced weyrsecond, T'nus stepped forward as a candidate, and with the leadership and tactical experience he had at Fort, he got the job.

Although it is a little unusual for riders to foster, with more weyrbrats than there are suitable parents, and since he and Lavi lived together and could share the responsibility, they have recently started fostering a young boy named Navi, whom T'nus takes everywhere with him, much to Lavi's endless worry.

Talents: Raised by a cook, T’nus can cook quite well, and particularly likes taking hunting or fishing trips where he can prepare the food. In thread, Azimuth’s thick skin means thread rarely penetrates deeply before he’s able to jump away.

Physical Description: T'nus is tall and muscular, almost as intimidating in presence as his dragon. But like his dragon, behind that he is all charm. He is usually smiling, but even when he isn't, his emotions are often very easily shown on his face. Only when he is very guarded will it become a perfect blank slate that makes it impossible to tell what he is thinking. There is an olive tone to his skin. His hair is dark brown, but appears reddish in the sun. It is mid-length and slightly curly. His eyes are a bright brown that appear almost like copper.

Dragon:

Name: Azimuth
Age: 9
Color: Bronze
Physical Description: Description: Azimuth is a behemoth of a bronze. Not only in the sense of physical size, but in the way he carries himself too. Although only slightly larger than an average bronze, he has a broadness to his shoulders and a stocky muscularity that speaks of his sheer fortress-like strength. All his limbs are large and muscular, even his wings.

As a consequence, he is not the most maneuverable in flight, but his motions are purposeful, and he makes up for the loss in reaction time by thinking that much further ahead. He is a highly skilled and calculated flyer, giving the illusion of agility that seems almost impossible in one so large. His thick muscle also gives him the ability to take off and accelerate with shocking rapidity.

Azimuth has a gleaming bronze color, glinting like metal, with a reddish tint to it. It has a bright and warm feeling to it. It seems almost as though it were mixed with gold, so that it shines a light orachalc. He has darker markings on his hide on his joints and the bottom of his face.

Personality: To see this monster of a bronze with such a little green seems almost humorous at first. But the doting affection the big dope piles on her is adorable. With his intimidating appearance, most people think he will have an intimidating presence too, but in fact nothing could be further from the truth. He is, in every way, a gentle giant: polite to his rider, tender to his weyrmate, warm to his friends, and friendly to strangers.

He is not so ambitious, but comfortable in the role of a leader. He doesn’t demand much decorum from his wingriders or peers. He looks at respect as something that is earned and not deserved. If he doesn’t have it, it’s on him, not anyone else. As a result, he dislikes haughty, and particularly vain dragons and occasionally antagonizes them on purpose, just to rock the podium they put themselves in.

He is confident, but not overly arrogant. He values himself by his friends and those who work with him, so he is competitive only in the sense of wanting to propel his friends and wingmates up to a higher standard. Not wanting people to say ‘that dragon’, but ‘that wing’ is the best.

Azimuth is a slow and careful thinker. He considers things from every angle before making his conclusions. He will often remain impartial in an argument for a long time, but once he makes a decision, it is always his final one. He lets his opinion be influenced by no one, and there are times when even he and T'nus must agree to disagree.
