There was a lot going on lately! Makali had been pretty busy, actually… Something that was kind of rare for him. Not busy playing pranks, either (though he had some good ideas if Choku and Wingu and him could get together.) There was drama at the borders, sometimes, lately… But other than that, he had noticed a lot of new faces. The gray lion was within pridal borders today, but somewhat near the border… He was in a particularly nice spot- he wasn't sure he'd ever been to it before… The grass was quite green and cool, with a nearby tree. Tired from running around- he decided to climb the tree- just a little. Its rough bark was somewhat brittle- it sloughed off as he climbed, but he made his way out onto a branch and let his paws dangle. It was unlike Mak to lounge, but he was… A little bored, honestly. His friends were busy today, so he had to entertain himself, and that wasn't going too well… The lion sighed as his mind wandered- what could he do today?

Two pale males stepped closer to a pride. Caideiseach knew it to be a boarder of a pride because of how many lions he smelled that seemed to be collecting here, for a lack of better words. He was tired. Tired of moving prides, tired of not having a steady, happy home.. Bahari would join him soon enough. He was going to wait until she showed up to approach the pride, but his son, Wyconda, was getting annoyed with not sleeping in a den. And the stupid bird wouldn't shut up for five seconds about what he was seeing. Caide liked to call the stupid thing Captain Obvious.
Tangerine eyes fell upon the red mane behind him and he slowed down a little bit. He 'talked' to his son through movements in his body as well as spoke slowly so Wyconda could read his lips.
"We're almost there, Wy..."Light blue eyes sparked when he 'heard' his dad. Almost there? He was fixing to have another home? Gods, he couldn't wait for that! Sarcastic thoughts dripped through his head as he stopped and snorted.
He 'told' his dad, "No one's going to accept me. I can't hear them and they don't know how to talk to me. I miss my siblings! How many other's have ome to the Pridelands? None that I know of! None of our family but you. Why can't we go where the others went?""Because, Wyconda, I don't want to be around that much family anymore. ..... Besides, Bahari's going to be here." He moved his body again and grew frustrated. Where was that bird, Xai, when it was needed? He wasn't even sure of the gender of the damn bird. It was hard to tell with them. "Because I need to start over. I lost... your mother. She was so important to me. I can't.... be there anymore. I'm sorry.."

His amber eyes were almost shut… Sooo close… But then something came into sight… Two pale (well, mostly pale- one had a red mane,) lions were crossing the savannah and… Moving quite expressively, actually. They had the same faded grays as the pair he had led into the Pridelands the other day….. Hayven and Chicha'Jabari. Actually, now that he thought about it, the two of them had mentioned that they would have family coming, and that they would be waiting for them. Makali hadn't heard whether or not they had arrived yet, and wondered if these two were maybe family of theirs? He hopped down out of his tree and padded towards them. "Hey!" he called with a broad smile on his muzzle. Normally he would be more weary of rogues, at least at first… But he was pretty sure these two were related. And Hayven and Chicha had been trustworthy, so he assumed so for these two as well.

He let out a little growl of frustration. Of course his growl sounded odd because he couldn't have much sound to it, but it was a growl none the less. He didn't hear the other male approach, didn't even notice him moving towards them. He just looked into his dad's tangerine eyes and frowned. ".... Fine. Replace mom. See if I care! I won't call her mom, though," he begrudged. Sighing a little more, he finally turned his head and noticed the other male. Wyconda's whole body tensed up and he partially hid behind his father. That's because he didn't know how to communicate with anyone that wasn't family or part of his old pride.
So that was the root of all of this. Bahari was why Wyconda was acting like a cub again. Frowning deeply he watched his son and arched a brow when he tensed up. Turning, he spotted the gray male and grinned. He seemed friendly enough.
Turning about, Caide greeted him with a hearty voice. "Hello there! Is this the Pridelands?" He tilted his head and watched the boy again before chuckling. "Excuse my son here! He's a little shy. If this isn't the right pride, can I get directions to it?" He was sure everyone had heard of the Pridelands. Even in his journeys he had heard stories of how prosperous they were and how happy the lions there seemed.

"Sorry about that!" the gray lion said to the one with the red mane. He had obviously snuck up on him, he hadn't meant to. Well, this time. Mak hadn't yet put together that he couldn't hear. He turned his attention to the other. "Ah, looking for the Pridelands are we? You're waaay off course," he said, walking up side-by-side with the lion. "You've gotta go all the way over there," he said, pointing a claw out into the roguelands. "Then you've gotta cross some crocodile-and-hippopotamus-infested waters, and then- if you survive- keep going south for three days, then you're there!" he said with a smirk. He didn't give them a chance to react before continuing, with a light shoulder-bump, "Nah, I'm just pulling your leg. You're here, you've actually entered, but the center of the pride is that way," he said, pointing a claw towards Pride Rock. "You can kinda see the main landmark, if you squint." he said, leaning his head forward and squinting himself.
"Say, you wouldn't... Happen to be from the Mizuka'Nyevu, would you? At least I think that's what it was called..." he muttered the last bit to himself. "You just look awfully similar to some of our newer faces around here..." he told them. "Oh, and by the way, my name's Makali- you can call me Mak for short."

This stranger was talking way to fast for Wyconda to keep up with so he just looked off in the direction he pointed and tilted his head. What was he talking about? Gods he wished he could hear sometimes. Frowning a little more, he sighed and shifted from paw to paw, just watching the two talk. At least his dad spoke slower than this guy, but right now his dad wasn't focused on him and reading lips from the side was hard.
Then again, it'd probably be really rude to go over and stand next to the new lion, not to mention stupid.
"Yes, that's... where we were from.. Everyone started leaving so I figured I'd better get out of there too." No, Caide wasn't thinking about Wyconda right now. He was really excited they were this close to the right pride already. He thought it'd be days more of walking! He chuckled and beamed a little, squinting to look at Pride Rock. Tilting his head he looked back over to Mak and grinned wider.
"I'm Caideiseach. Caide for short. This is Wyconda!" He said, shifting to get next to his son and nipped his ear to get his attention. "He's... actually deaf so he's spacing out since he doesn't understand what you're saying. Don't feel bad though."

Mak had started to worry that he was boring them to death, though he thought he had been quite witty with his comment about them not being in the right place… He pushed those thoughts away, though, and listened to the lion. "I thought so- I'm getting a good eye for members of different prides," he said. "Nice to meet you Caide, Wyconda," he said with nods. "Really? That makes sense, now…" he admitted, looking to Wyconda and then back to Caide, a neutral smile on his muzzle. These things were always awkward for him- most of the time these lions didn't want pity, but it seemed to be the strongest emotion available… That also explained all of the strong body language as well. He did make a mental note, though… Mak was one for pranks, but pulling one on Wyconda would be a cheap shot. "Well, since you guys are here, would you like me to take you in to Pride Rock?" he asked, changing the subject.

OK, he was seriously tired of being ignore now. And the n** didn't help either. Growling again, he pushed away from his dad and wandered off in some random direction. He wasn't going to go too far.. He wasn't stupid and he didn't want to get lost or worse. Instead he started sniffing at the grass and plants that were dying because of the gusts of cold that seemed to be happening everywhere. Winter was coming and it'd be his second one. He was born in winter, that was his first.
Something about the winter season just excited him. It was cold, and it brought cubs out to play. Maybe, just maybe he could find some cubs to play with. Teach someone how to communicate with him. It'd be seriously easier than anything else...
Caide shot his son a warning glance and frowned when he started wandering off. It seemed they'd ignored him just a bit too long. "Please... And really, don't worry about him. He'll adapt and cope. If not... I'll... see if I can teach some of the other pride members how to talk to him. It's actually not that hard. Just get in front of him, make sure he has your attention and speak slowly and form your words well. He reads mouth movements." Caide looked back at Mak and chuckled. "His mother was deaf.. he was born deaf with another of his sisters and a brother who was half deaf.. They all... wandered off when the pride started falling apart."

Mak watched the other meander off a little ways. He hoped that he hadn't done anything to upset the lion- if he had, he hadn't meant to. He turned back to Caide, "he can read your mouth? That's so cool!" he said, genuinely excited. Makali had never known a lion to be able to do that. Or anyone who could do that, for that matter. He certainly couldn't. "How did he learn that?" he asked, a little incredulously, noticing that he had slowed his speech down and pronounced more clearly without even thinking about it; in case Wyconda was paying attention. "I'm sure that he'll get along fine here. Everyone's pretty open, I'm sure anyone would be willing to at least try to communicate with him."
"Well, shall we get moving?" he asked, still speaking slower and more clearly. "It's not far at all, and I'm pretty sure you're probably sick of traveling?" He imagined he would be, too.

"Oh, his mother taught him... Before she... left." Caide sighed at that and rubbed his face with his paw. He hated talking about Chache. He'd always love her, he really would, but obviously she didn't feel the same about him. She just left him with the cubs and never even gave any hint that she was falling out of love with him, or whatever her excuse for leaving was. Sighing deeply, he moved over to Wyconda and tapped his hip to indicate they were heading out. He motioned his son closer as Mak started talking again.
"Yeah... Gods know we've traveled way more than we've liked..." Especially Caide. He was travelling between his old pride and his father's pride a lot when he was younger.
Wyconda yawned and blinked when he noticed he could read Mak's words. Most people just tried to scream at him. It didn't help, if they did, because no matter how loud the noise was, the red maned male couldn't hear it. Ah, the gift of being deaf. He didn't have to listen to stupid lions.
The pair followed Mak, both looking pretty tired and just ready to finally settle down into the safety of the pride.
((End?))
